She was so skinny that her body seemingly wanted to pierce the water and go down. Her arms were so skinny that they were more like a knife cutting water than the paddles of a sea otter pushing the water. Her lips were purple. The pool water sapped heat from her core that had no fat insulation layer. Her head was quivering a little, when she talked. "Emily, have you been studying all night for the biology advanced placement test again? You need more boy action in your life. Look over at Taylor. What a back! And those tight buns in his black speedo are tastier than Godiva." Emily's head was resting on the edge of the pool. Her fingers were reaching back to hold onto the rim to avoid drifting away. Her long blond hair was wet and combed back. The blue swimming cap, goggles, and nose pin were discarded behind her. The water lapped over the edge of the pool to disappear into the gutter. It pushed the items a little around with each wave. The ample breasts were hard to see in the distortion of the water surface. One might have gotten a glimpse that she was wearing a bikini instead of the one-piece swim team uniform for practice. "I am not going to participate if there are sharks in the ocean at night," stated Ashley with a putty mouth. Her hair was all matted. She easily floated in the pool with the fat that she had. The yellow kickboard was still pinned beneath her knees to make the floating even easier. "You are stupid! Sharks don't disappear from the ocean during the day. They are there the whole day," said Mike with a big green standing tall next to the pool. He had a red racer Speedo on. His legs and body hair was cleanly shaved off. The water glistened on his smooth body. "'Cause you are the big, bad shark expert." Ashley's already wide mouth opened even wider. "Actually, they don't disappear. They activity level increase..." lectured Emily with passion. Mike ignored her. The big hand of the tall 6' 3" lad placed itself on Ashley's black haired, matted head and pushed it underwater. Jessica and Emily immediately grabbed the hand and pulled hard on it. The kneeling lad toppled playfully forward in a summersault. He disappeared under water. The distortion of the surface showed his huge wing span unfold to push forward with big strokes. The sleek silhouette disappeared into the distance into a cluster of color against the blue water background. 25 yard across, the wet pack of muscles slid out of the water and effortlessly pushed out of the pool. "Tradition is tradition. I'm not going to chicken out," declared Jessica. "Mike likes you. You should make him your towel bearer for the swim team prank." "Is that prank for real?" asked Ashley. "Yeah, I saw Taylor pull up in his dad's car at my house yesterday. He talked to my mom for ten minutes or so. He left without ever talking to me. At first, I thought my mom didn't let him in after what he had done to me at the prom. He asked me for his prom date. And then he spent half the prom night talking with that hoe that had ditched him. So, my mom saw the tears in my eyes. And she let me in. She wouldn't tell me what the prank was though. She only had that evil sparkle in her eyes. I think it's going to be something really killer. All she told me was that he told her everything that would happen and that he picked up one of my towels." "Damn, I wonder if we are going to jump over the fence of the Venice High pool and go for a midnight swim. Did you know that there is this super powerful dye? Only a bottle cap full could turn the whole pool green," said Emily. NIGHTTIME ROUNDUP The ocean fog slowly rolled through streets in white tufts. The May sun was gaining strength and heating up the ocean to raise the water into the air. The trees in front of Jessica's house enjoyed wriggling their leaves in the moisture, because it hadn't rained in the sunny Southern California enclave Santa Monica in weeks. The tiny lawn in front of the single family home had a succinct sign: "No dog poop. Period." "I'm very proud of you," said Jessica's dad at the dinner table. He held a ripped open envelope and a letter with the seal of the University of Santa Barbara in his hand. "Social services is a very respectable major. It is very important work. Of course, I'd have rather that you went to UCLA. However, I understand that you don't want to go where I'm teaching. You want to be independent. You are 18 now. You've got your prom behind you. You are starting your own life. I'm going enjoy your company for these last weeks as much as I can." "I love you, too, daddy," said Jessica. She hugged her dad heartily. After a good snuggle, her dad patted her on the back. "It's alright now. You can go up to your room. I know I'm holding you up from texting with your girlfriends." She kissed him on the cheek and got up to go upstairs. He grabbed her hand in the last moment and looked at her directly. "Don't wear your birthday suit tonight. Wear respectable sleep wear." He gave her a wink with his right eye. She knew that prank night was on. Her bare feet quickly dribbled up the stairs. Her heart pounded, when she opened the bottom right drawer in her clothing cabinet. Neatly folded was a black pair of boy shorts. The black fabric went in a wide band to make the shape look almost box like. Even though the fabric covered her ample rather than a bikini bottom, it was cut in such a way that your butt would hang out beneath the cut, very daring and sexy. The sleepwear top was a baby doll with spaghetti straps that rod high enough to show her navel. She had carefully selected it to be sexy yet classy. She put it on. She slipped under the comforter. She noticed the stuffed giraffe next to her head. That old childhood pal was quickly tossed under the bed. She starred at the ceiling, unable to clothes her eyes. Her breathing was hard. She was ready to jump up and run out. The light night shadows painted on the ceiling. Every once in a while, the yellow lights of a car chased across the ceiling. Each time it happened, she held her breath to hear if the car would stop. She could hear her parents turn into their own bedrooms. Memories of swim meets shot into her head. She remembered the exhilaration of being pulled out of the water after a relay. Her legs were too drained to help her get out. She felt like puking all over the floor. With all the water splashing around from the swimmers, her puke would probably have been distributed over a wide area. And then she was lifted up onto the strong shoulders of the guys in the swim team. Hands grabbed her body all over, even in the intimate places like her butt. To her startle, her wet body slipped and someone's head bobbed against her boobs. She had brought home the winning trophy against their arch rival Venice High. They carried her one time around the whole pool. All that would be gone. Her teammates were so familiar to her. Of course, she wasn't on the swim team as a little kid. However, it seemed like her teammates had always been around her. There was a strange familiarity among them. There was the time that Mike had messed up a dive from the 10 foot tower. The blood was running so quickly down his face as it mixed with the pool water running out of his hair. Everyone was waiting in the ER, while the doctors stitched him up. There were the crazy dares of snorting a cup of pool water up the nose. The chlorine stung for hours. There were the embarrassing moments, like when she had found out that her white bra was see-through. To avoid missing practice, the lifeguard had given her waterproof Band-Aids. They called her school slut for a week. Though that passed as well. A car stopped. She held her breath. The doorbell rang. Her parent's bedroom door opened. A stamped of lad feet stormed up the stairs. Her door was thrown up. The ceiling light was turned on. The bright yellow temporarily blinded her. All this, she had expected. Yet, the reality was so surprising. She froze unable to move. Her comforter was pulled off her body and thrown to the floor. A male hand grabbed her ankle. She saw herself from the outside for a moment: A girl in tasty sleepwear with two muscular swimmers that had stormed her room. She could see all her books and posters in the periphery. The next moment her consciousness popped deeply into her body, when the strong hands grabbed her wrists and dragged her down the stairs past the family photos of her 13th birthday. She threw a last look at her parents standing side by side and smiling benevolently at her. They waved her good bye. They were in on this all along, like all the other parents. Her barefoot stepped over the concrete walkway toward the idling van. She had no keys, money, or ID on her -- only her sleepwear. The other two girls waited for her in the van already. Emily had full length pajama pants and a white t-shirt. Evidently, she had picked the choice that was closest to being dressed in street clothes without giving up on the pretense of being something that she could actually sleep in. Ashley had the sluttiest dress. She wore her underwear: a white thong and a bra. Her body was chubby. Taylor hit the gas pedal. They went off into the dark, empty night of a residential neighborhood. The guys were wearing board shorts and flip flops. There was definitely swimming going to be involved. Brian was there as well. He was the tall black kid. Even among the black people, he was the blackest black. It was as if his skin trapped all the light photos. He had always been quiet. He had taken the chance to sit next to Ashley and steal glances at her. Electronic music was playing: "They tell me I'm a bad boy. All the ladies look at me and act coy." DARE AT THE PIER A short five minute drive, they pulled into the giant empty space of the beach parking lot. The boundary of the parking lot was lined with palm trees. The crashing of the waves was already audible, even though the stretch of sand was a far one. Dropped popsicles from the afternoon had melted and dried into a black sticky spot on the pavement. A broken boogie board was discarded on the ground. A bikini top had dropped out of a bag and was run over by numerous cars. The pigeons alternatingly pulled a Big Mac around the parking lot. They tried to peck pieces out of it. A squirrel was going bunkers in a trash can buffeting on left behind beach snacks. Or perhaps, it was trying to get drunk from the stale brown paper bag beer. Stepping on the ground was a little disgusting. However, the adrenaline was pumping, the excitement was raving. The world famous Santa Monica pier was the clear destination. The gaggle of young people swiftly closed in on it. The girls looked around, because they were scantily clad. There was only a homeless person sleeping in the doorway of the electrical power house. A solitary biker sped down the bike path. The cones of light from the giant parking lot flood lights was spaced out quite far. The blue lifeguard houses were boarded up. "Careful, the old wood boards can have bad nails," warned Mike, when they climbed over the fence to enter the pier. The pier was closed at weekday nights. They walked among the Merry Go 'Round and the astrology booths. The fresh seafood restaurant still reeked of fish. Lights were on inside. The cleaning crew must have still been working. Mike put his fingers on his lips to hush them. Then, there was the long stretch, where the pier reaches over the ocean. The cold fingers of the sea air grabbed the girls' bare skin. "The final swim team graduation is to jump down the pier at the end," said Taylor. "That's 30 feet into churning water! People have died getting battered by waves against the pillars that hold up the pier!" exclaimed Emily. "It's the final swim team graduation test for a reason. If you don't do it, you don't become a real SaMoHi shark," declared Taylor. "Sharks!" shrieked Ashley. Her big, fatty boobs were heaving. "C'mon, you chickens! We checked the current. It goes south. We jump off the south side and drift away from danger. It's been done every year on the swim team since the 70's." explained Mike. "I'll do it," said Emily with determination. "I'm ball deep in this already," said Jessica. "Don't leave me alone," whimpered Ashley. They reached the far end of the pier. There was a little boat hoist, where boats were lowered in a decade past. They all starred down. The white foam at the tip of wave crescents moved into all directions. Some of them were reflected by the pillars. Some new crescents came in. The water looked green. The waves near the beach raised high, as the sea bed pushed them higher. Out here, the waves were flat, yet their charge was spread out wide. It was like the whole ground lifted up, when a big wave moved in. "Ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy," screamed Emily on her way down. She jumped before anyone was ready. The fear must have pushed her to do it now or never. A small circle of foam stayed behind her entry into the water. Then a giant flop of water shot up like a geyser to counter her kinetic energy shooting down. One second, two seconds, three second, and her head appeared above the water. "I did it!" Ashley grabbed the sea gull shit stained railing with both arms to prevent anyone from pushing her. Jessica was still seizing up the jump. The guys were relaxed, because they knew that they wouldn't have to jump. They had the keys for the car. "Whoop, whoop," the sound chilled the blood. The 5-0 was coming. The blue flashing light was down at the fence. They were opening the gate. Taylor pulled the key string out of his board shorts to tie the car keys into it. Brian jumped over the railing with a white step. "The black kid always goes to the joint the quickest and longest. I'm outta here." The cop car engine roared. The PA crackled, "Do not jump." Mike smiled, "Whenever the bacon tells you something, do the opposite." He pried one arm of Ashley off the railing. Taylor pulled the other arm. The high school swim teams have try outs. So even a chubby kid like Ashley that's lazy about practice gets to join. They pulled her with them down into the free fall. Their arms and legs were waving through the air to stabilize their body position for as clean as an entry as their rush would allow. For a moment, the feeling of the stomach hitting the throat rushed over them. The next moment, they hit the water hard like the floor from their speed. Then blackness gushed all around them. Salty water was pushed up their noses. Ashley's bra was pushed over her breasts and hanging under her arm pits. Then, the muscular arms and legs pushed as hard as they could hoping that forward was also upward. With all the adrenaline and rapid paddling, the 60 degree ocean didn't even feel cold. "Do we have everyone," yelled Mike over the waves. "Oh shit, my tits are hanging out," yelled Ashley trying to draw attention to them. It was too dark to see anything. It was only for her to feel her boobs floating around freely in the big wide ocean. "Fuck, the cops are going to wait for us at the beach. I can't have a bad record or UCLA might renege my scholarship," fretted Emily. "Damn girl, this is the first time I hear you cursing. You are always Goody Two-Shoes," exclaimed Ashley. "Okay, just swim down a mile and go out to the beach. They'll lose us. Our heads in the waves are way too small for them to track us along the beach," yelled Mike. Light turned the nearly black water into emerald green. For the first time, they could see the fear and thrill in each other's pale faces. Everyone looked up at the cops shining flashlights down. "Swim away from the pillars. They are dangerous. When you come to the beach, you will be arrested for breaking and entering. Do yourself a favor and follow instructions." There were about four cops looking down. The faces were pretty small in the distance, darkness, and against the flashlights. "I can't get arrested." Yelled Emily, turned around, and kicked hard into a front crawl. Taylor grabbed her ankle before she could go anywhere. "Let me go. You are ruining my life." The deep quiver of panic was in her voice. "Let's have a plan. You girls are going to dive. You are going to dive as hard and far as you can, at least 50 yards south. We guys are going to do a lot of splashing and swim north to draw them away. Once they follow us along the beach, we'll make a hook and come to meet you. Don't linger at the beach. Go in between the buildings. We'll find you. Go one mile down and then out." "Okay," said Jessica and took a deep breath to go under. "I'm bad at diving," fretted Ashley. Mike pushed her head under. She followed the lead and swam away under water. ON THE RUN UNDER WATER Darkness engulfed Jessica. The water felt heavy against her skin. She pushed hard. There was no sense of gravity. There was a fear of diving deeper. Was she 10 feet under? There was a fear of shooting over the water to early. What would jail be like? The oxygen in her lungs ran dry. She pushed out another bubble of air. There was a little tea spoon left. Panic, she needed to breathe the next second. Hold onto the panic and do one more stroke. She had done this before in the pool. She would be able to do five more strokes than she thought she could. 1 -- 2 -3 - 4 -5. Her head was pounding. No, one more stroke. She could do it. One more stroke. She negotiated herself deeper and deeper into oxygen deprivation. Imminent asphyxiation made her break her determination. She grasped toward the surface. Please, be there. Her hand grabbed into more water. The feeling of air against her face must be close or she'd perish. She grabbed again and got more water. How deep had she gone down? The time of thinking that she'd die the next second without air had turned into the time that she would actually die the next second without air. Her hand shot into another handful of water. Bursting out to the surface and yapping in air like mad, she was out in the darkness of the ocean. The beautifully lit sand beach was in the far distance. At least, she wasn't in the open ocean. Where were her friends? She could not yell out to them without drawing the attention of the 5-0. In solitary, she waited in the ocean. The night was moonless. Waves would slowly lumber in, lift her up, and give her a little visibility into the surroundings. Then she'd disappear into the valley of the wave not being able to see anything. The sky was as black as the water. The shivers of adrenaline turned into shivers of cold. She started swimming slowly ahead, always keeping her head above water to see around her. She woke up a group of sleeping pelicans that took flight. Their bodies glided low above the waves into the distance. She passed Muscle Beach at the beach side. It's a famous place for body building at the beach. Probably, a mile down was around Shutters on the Beach, a fancy hotel. It was brightly lit up for a private party probably. Only the crashing waves piercing the nighttime silence was very peaceful. Pulling her well trained strokes was comforting. It was soothing and calming to experience the night out in the ocean. From all the activity of graduation and college choices, it was the first quiet lone time that she had. Her dad had spent long evenings reviewing college brochures with her. She had been busy at school planning senior skip school day. They day after the prom, all the seniors skipped school and went to Catalina Island. They had rented their own ferry. So, there was keg beer on the boat deck. People puked from sea sickness and drinking. It was pretty rowdy. The water was washing away all that and left her to feel herself. Sure enough, when she reached far enough South to be parallel to Shutters, there was Emily treading water. Ashley was the slow tug boat. She came in a little later. SaMoHi Sharks "I guess, we'll swim out and go for a little walk on Main Street?" suggested Jessica. "I'm going to stay here and wait for the boys," said Emily. Her voice was shaking and shivering. "You already have blue lips. You won't last much longer. There is no shame in accepting that you are skinny. It's a good thing," helped Jessica. "No really, go ahead. I'll be fine here," insisted Emily. "Just leave her here. She is over 18 now. She can make her own decisions," added Ashley. "Don't be silly. You are coming with us. Hypothermia is real. Your biology AP should have told you that," insisted Jessica. "I can't," replied Emily. "Why?" asked Jessica. "I lost my pajama pants. I guess when I was swimming hard, I didn't feel anything but the water rushing past me. They are somewhere in the ocean. I'll wait here and ask one of the boys for his shorts." Said Emily. "Oh -- (silence) -- There are two problems. One, you'll die of hypo before that. Two, if he gives you his shorts, he'll be naked. C'mon let's get out first and then figure something out. The brain doesn't work with hypo." "Okay, but only to the beach, where nobody can see me." They swam out together. Nearing the shore, the waves shaped higher and higher until they were six feet beauties. They could see the whitewater ahead, where the waves crashed. They treaded water for a bit. The surge of the oncoming wave powerfully lifted them up and lowered them as it passed. A big monster neared. The face was like glass. One could feel that it was about to break. "GO," yelled Jessica. All three shot forward. The wave ripped them up into the air. Then the visceral feeling of the wave grabbing onto them propelled them forward. The tip of the wave reached up to the sky and came crashing down. The ragdoll bodies were in the washing machine body of the wave being ripped through the surf. Initially, Jessica held one arm up straight like a body surfers to become like a long board to push. Then, the tumbling forces of the wave flipped her around. A cubic meter of water weighs a ton. The wave effortlessly moved her arms and legs around independently as a puppeteer does. It was like she had no muscles or will at all. Water was pushed under her eye lids. She couldn't even tell if her mouth was open or not, because there was salt water in her mouth, nose, and deeper. The seconds ran by. Her sole thought was: "Hold the air and wait it out." The sand floor rough up her skin. The wave mercilessly dragged her along the sandy bottom, until the wave fizzled out as a three inch spray. Jessica was sprawled on the ground. Her arms and legs were lying around scattershot. Her panties were ripped around her hips and twisted. Her snatch was fully exposed and covered in sand. Her top was ripped up and luckily got stuck on her nose. Her boobs were bare. Her nipples were on the rough sand. She spit out water. Her hand fought the mess of hair out of her face. Emily was already up on her feet dancing around and holding her snatch. She indeed had lost her pajama bottoms. Her legs were skinny. She was only wearing a t-shirt. Ashley was utterly comfortable in her thong and bra letting her fat hang out. "Let's get a shower and wash up. I've got sand everywhere," said Jessica. BEING A SALT WATER MESS IN PUBLIC The beach showers had been turned off at night to discourage homeless people. Jessica tried to straight out her hair. It was a mad tangle of salt and sand. Emily had stretched out her t-shirt far enough to barely cover her snatch. It was like a mini-dress. Jessica had warned, "Remember to not shrug your shoulders. And god help you that won't have to sneeze." They were able to giggle about it having warmed up on the long walk across the deep sand. The peered into the street that led away from the beach. They had to move on to avoid the police sweeps. It was daring to step into the "normal" world with their scant clothing. The first block was empty with sleeping parked cars. They had to cross a two lane street, which carried traffic any time. They hid in the shadow of a parked car until the traffic light switched. Then they ran as fast as they could across the street. The waiting drivers probably simply thought it normal to see basically college age kids do crazy things. The next block was empty. Then there was Main Street, a sleepy commercial road with clothing boutiques, cafes, and bars, where mostly locals shopped. A crazy homeless dude was holding a burning lighter right in front of his eyes. When he saw them, he mumbled something that was probably, "Can you spare some change?" They ignored him. He didn't matter. They could have been naked. His eyes didn't count. A Prius drove down the streets. The shop windows were black. A local coffee store down the street had lights and gas heating lamps going. Sweet music was serenading down the street. A couple walked on the other side of the street hand in hand. The girl was wearing high heel boots. Her designer jacket revealed that she was wearing nothing beneath the jacket in a trendy, daring way. Her pants were non-functioning riding pants with a round leather patch under her crotch. A gold buckle was around the knees of her pants. The guy was wearing a normal jeans and t-shirt combo. A business man in a suit swiftly came up to them from the side. They weren't prepared for being seen so clothes. Jessica and Emily froze. They stared at the man to see his reaction. Ashley was relaxed. She smiled at the man, "Can you spare some money. We forgot our wallet at home. We'd like to get a coffee." The business man was in his mid-thirties. He had a meticulously groomed haircut, probably from a $200 per session stylist. He seized them up and down. Emily pulled her t-shirt farther down with her fist to cover her crotch. She looked coyly on the floor. Jessica put her arms across her chest to hide her boobs. She looked down the street. The man's gaze inched across her body to take in her youthful, smooth skin. He scanned her crotch to see if there was anything his spy eyes could find that was supposed to be hiding. He reached into his pocket, pulled out a money clip, and handed Ashley a twenty. "Will that be enough?" "Yeah, that's awesome." Ashley got on her tippy toes and kissed him on the cheek. The business man blushed. He walked on without saying anything else. "What?! He just gave you twenty dollars?" said Jessica in disbelief. "Yeah, asking people for money is easy. If I were still working at Ben and Jerry's, I'd have to work for three hours to get that," explained Ashley. Their feet had gray soles by now from walking through the dirty streets. They walked down to the coffee shop. It was a posh place with gold highlights on the counter. The barista was a young Guatemalan guy with exquisitely groomed punk Mohawk and a big quarter sized hold cut into each ear lobe. He looked them up and down. Ashley had her white thong. Jessica looked like she had stepped out of a Playboy centerfold with her sexy underwear and messy, wet appearance. Emily was the shy nerd. Her pulling down the front of her t-shirt drew only more attention to something being off. "Partying hard ladies, I see. What can I do you for?" "A pot of tea, three cups, and all the chocolate cake that $20 including tax and tip can buy." "I'm going to slip you a second piece of cake. The boss is in the back. So, hush-hush about it." They sat down to wait for the busboy to bring their refreshments. With a warm belly and sugar high, the girls got giddy. The chocolate cake had been a bit too eager. Their mouths and fingers were covered in melted chocolate. They thought it was funny how the other patrons tried to stare at them without being obvious. "We should do this every week!" said Ashley. "So, Emily, with your short t-shirt, is your pussy touching the chair?" asked Jessica way too nosily. "OMG," Emily exclaimed. With a whisper she added, "Yes." "Oh, let us see if it leaves a mark!" Being giddy, Emily jumped up. "Oh bam!" There was moisture as when someone blows breath against a frozen winter window. The shape was in the long outlines that were clearly her pussy lips. "I think a dude sat there before and farted," teased Jessica. They were all snorting with their noses in giggles and girlishly rowdy. Half hour in, they spotted the van rumbling down the street slowly. They waved from the coffee shop terrace. The van stopped in front of it. The three guys jumped out and picked the girls up. "The police had called the lifeguards. They came out with a speed boat. There was no escaping that giant flood light. I thought we were in deep trouble. Though, the captain is a SaMoHi graduate. He knows about the tradition. So, he hid us under a tarp and smuggled us past the police. He told them that they couldn't find anyone. We had probably swam back to the sea. And supposedly, there was a real emergency that they had to go to. They were really cool guys. That boat went fucking fast!" And then they were all dropped off at home to go to sleep for a normal school day.
