Two friends were seated on each side. Detective Elliott Stabler spoke up. "You can't win them all Alex." Alex turned to Stabler. "I know that, but that creep is walking the streets just because of a technicality. We put weeks of hard work into the case and it was all for nothing. It's just so frustrating, you know?" She was referring to Todd Jeffords, a well known business man who had been accused of rape by one of his employees. Horace Boland, his lawyer had just used the technicality that caused the trial to collapse. Now Alex was feeling tired and angry. "People like him never stop. You'll get another shot at it," said Detective Olivia Benson consolingly. "I guess you're right," responded Alex in an exhausted tone. "Look, we've got to go. Will you be alright," asked Benson with concern. "Of course I will. I'll just have one more and I'm off. Thanks, both of you. Sorry I've been a pain." "Hey, don't be silly. We're always here for you," said Stabler in response. Alex patted his shoulder affectionately as he got up. Benson gave Alex a hug and both detectives left together. Alex ordered another drink. As it was put on the bar a tall man in a black overcoat and black hat sat at the bar. For a moment Alex mistook him for Detective John Munch. However she was convinced she had seen him before. The barman spoke to him. "Good evening Fa, err, Dan. The usual?" "Yes, thank you Frank," responded the man in Irish brogue. Alex was amused when she saw that the barman poured orange juice. It was strange seeing an Irishman not drinking alcohol. The man turned to Alex. "Good evening," he said with a smile. Alex said nothing. She simply nodded. After a few more sips she got up and taking her coat and purse, left the bar. The man waited for about thirty seconds and then followed her out. He kept a distance from her as she walked along the street. He saw Alex reach into her purse and take out her keys. As she pressed the button there was a brilliant flash followed by a huge explosion. Alex was blown backwards and she struck the ground with enormous force. Then, for Alex Cabot, darkness descended. *** As she came around, the first thing Alex be came aware of was her forehead being gently patted with a cool damp cloth. When the fog from her eyes dissipated she was startled to see a nun in her late thirties holding the cloth. "Who are you? Where am I?" she asked anxiously. The nun smiled. "Good morning. I'm Sister Elizabeth. I'll call Father. He'll explain everything." With that, Sister Elizabeth left the room. A few moments later she returned. A tall figure came in behind her. Alex's eyes scanned the black pants, black clerical shirt and white collar. Finally, as she saw his face, she was shocked. "You? Who are you? Where am I?" repeated Alex. "Good morning," he responded in his Irish accent. "You were at the bar," said Alex in response. "That's right. I realise you have a lot of questions and I promise I will answer them all," responded the man as he reached for a medical bag. "Do you remember what happened?" he asked as he took out a stet scope. Alex thought for a moment. "I was heading to my car. When I pressed to unlock the door there was an explosion. Oh my God! Was anyone hurt?" "No, you were the only casualty. Do you remember your name?" "Alex Cabot. The office, I need to contact the office," cried Alex in panic. "Ouch," she groaned as her head continued to pound. "Take it easy Ms Cabot. Your office is already aware of the situation. Now I want you to follow the light," said the man as he produced a small torch. Alex reluctantly obeyed. " Ease forward. Sister, please," Sister Elizabeth helped Alex and loosened the front of her pyjamas. Her bare shoulders were exposed and the man put his stet scope to the left side of Alex bare back. "Breathe in." Alex did so with difficulty. "And out." Two more times Alex did as she was told and finally she was eased back onto her pillow. "Your lungs are clear but your chest is very sore. Not too surprising given the explosion. You also have a severe concussion. Your right arm and wrist are also broken. Now, to answer your questions. I'm Father Dan Moore. I'm Priest in residence of St Anthony's and you are in the rectory. I'm also a qualified doctor." Alex looked at him in shocked silence. "Rectory?" was all she could say. Father Moore smiled. "Please, I've got to call my office..." Alex was cut off. "They said you'd be insistent," laughed Father Moore. "They?" responded Alex. Father Moore said nothing. He simply got up and headed for the door. He opened it and stuck his head out. "Ok guys. She's awake. Five minutes and no more. She's been through enough." To Alex's total astonishment, her boss, Jack McCoy and her colleague Casey Novak dressed in her usual pinstriped business suit stood before her. "What's going on Jack?" Asked Alex weakly. "We haven't much time Alex," said Jack. "NYPD believe Luis Sanchez, leader of the Colombian cartel once run by Cesar Velez is behind the bomb. Officially, you're in a coma in hospital. The police think he may strike again so we feel you'll be safe here in the rectory. Father Dan is a good friend and a valued one at that. He'll fill the gaps. Casey and I will share your work load until you're well enough. " "I can't just be idle Jack..." responded Alex. You won't be, I promise," laughed Jack. Jack turned to Father Moore and put out his hand. "Thanks for looking out for her Dan." "If I had done things better none of this would have occurred," he responded as he reproached himself. "You're not expected to think of everything Dan. That's my job. Ready Casey?" Casey kissed Alex on her forehead. "Glad to see you're ok Alex. Talk to you soon," she said and they both left the room with Father Moore. A few moments later Father Moore returned. "How about some breakfast? Are you hungry?" "I'd like to get freshened up," responded Alex. "Of course," said Father Moore as he opened a cupboard and took out a fold up cane. "This will help you. There are some fresh clothes in the wardrobe. I hope you don't mind. Detective Benson dropped them over." He helped Alex from the bed and she headed for the en suite shower. Having dressed with some difficulty in a pair of jeans and green top Alex made her way from the room and it was only then she realised she was on the ground floor. When she reached the dining room Father Moore was already seated and Sister Elizabeth was just putting food on the table. Father Moore stood up and helped Alex to her seat. "You're just in time. Sister Elizabeth makes a good omelette. I hope you're hungry?" "Please, you don't have to go to all this trouble just for me," Alex replied. "Nonsense, you're our guest and we are very glad to have you," Sister Elizabeth said with a smile. "Mmm," This is good," said Alex as she ate breakfast. "I'm glad you like it dear, came Sister Elizabeth's reply. She turned to Father Moore. "Father, I have class in a few minutes and I'll do the market later. So if it's alright with you I'll back this evening to make dinner." "That's great Sister. See you then." Alex relaxed when Sister Elizabeth left. Although her experience with nuns was limited those she did know were old and cranky. She turned to Father Moore. "I still don't understand your involvement in all this Father. I realise you know Jack very well but that visit to the bar was no coincidence, was it?" Father Moore sighed. "Time to come clean," he said. "I knew Jack when we were at college. He went on to study law and I went on to study medicine. By a trick of fate we ended up serving Uncle Sam in, shall we say, 'covert operations'. When we concluded our mission we kept in touch and helped out each other. When you left witness protection Jack realised you'd refuse extra protection so he asked me to keep an unofficial eye on you. Your address is in the boundary of the parish so there would be no suspicions." Father Moore looked into Alex's eyes. "Please don't be angry with Jack, Ms Cabot. He cares for you and Casey like you were his own daughters." Alex Cabot was seldom speechless but this was more than she could ever have imagined. It was hard for her to imagine Jack McCoy as a spy and yet here was this story. "A few weeks ago two guys tried to attack me. A man suddenly turned up and fought them off and then disappeared. Was that you?" asked Alex. Father Moore simply smiled. "What would your Bishop say?" she asked with a slight laugh. "If he knew he'd have my hide and I'd be on the first plane back to the old country. So you see I'm relying on your confidence as a lawyer and you have mine as a priest. It's to our mutual advantage." "And Sister Elizabeth?" "She only knows you're a guest of mine recovering from an accident. For her sake we'll keep it that way." Alex nodded. "There's just one other thing, Father. I keep thinking I've seen you somewhere before." Father Moore's expression changed to one of apparent sadness as he sighed. "Yes," he said. "You've seen me before. Cast your mind back. Yvonne Carey, does the name ring a bell?" Alex thought. 'Nurse Yvonne Carey. Raped, murdered and dumped in Central Park.' Father Moore's head went down. Alex put her hand on his. "I'm so sorry. I remember now. She was your fiancée. We gave you a hard time." "It was your job. I was very grateful to you and the team when you convicted the killer." Alex patted his hand. "Just one more thing Ms Cabot, within these four walls and when Sister is not present, please call me Dan." Alex smiled. "Dan it is then and I'm Alex," she said as she extended her left hand and they shook. A few seconds later Alex began to gasp for air. "Ok Alex. Just relax," said Dan as he pulled a grey machine from a cupboard. Pressing a button, the machine began to make a humming sound. He placed a mask to her face. "Just breathe normally, Alex." The moments ticked by and gradually Alex began to relax and the colour returned to her face. Dan removed the mask. "What happened?" asked Alex anxiously. "Because of your injuries you're not getting enough oxygen. It's something that will last several days. I have these oxygen machines in your bedroom, the study, the living room and here." The doorbell rang. "That'll be the armed guard," said Dan. "Armed Guard?" "I'm afraid Jack insisted." Dan looked through the spy hole and when he was satisfied he opened the door. "I thought they were sending me to the wrong address but now I see you it makes perfect sense." Elliott Stabler said this with a smile. "I heard the rumours about you but I didn't believe it. How are you Dan?" continued Stabler as he extended his hand. "I'm very well Elliott," responded Dan as he took his friend's hand and shook it. "How is she?" asked Stabler uneasily. "She's confused and anxious. I hope your presence will alleviate some of her anxiety. She's in the dining room. Coffee?" "Please," answered Stabler. Dan opened the door of the dining room. Alex was still seated at the table when she looked up and saw Stabler. "Oh no, Elliott, you can't be involved..." "The Captain summed it up well, Alex. You're family and we look out for each other. He called for volunteers and we all pitched in and worked out a schedule between us. Olivia will be here in a few hours." Alex eyes brightened and there was a flutter in her heart at the mention of Olivia Benson, Stabler's partner. Alex had poured out her heart to Olivia about her loneliness while in Wisconsin and her brief romance. What hurt most was that she lived a lie while there. Olivia was a great friend and certainly understood. Alex knew she was lucky to have her. Alex's expression wasn't lost on Stabler. He was also aware how Benson felt about Alex but said nothing. It was none of his or anyone else's business. He was determined to keep it that way. Stabler put a briefcase up on the table. "Your boss handed this to me." he said. "Well he said I wouldn't be idle," was Alex reply with a smile. She used the cane to get up. "You can use the study," said Dan as he took the briefcase and Alex followed him. She settled into the leather chair and Dan placed the briefcase on the desk. He switched on the computer. "Feel free to use it if you need." "Thank you Dan. You're very kind." "The oxygen machine is right beside you. Don't work too hard and take a break." "I will," responded Alex as she smiled. Stabler was standing outside as Dan closed the study door. "I don't have to tell you keep an eye on her Elliott. Just make sure she takes a break. Insist on it." "Will do, Dan." "Oh and I'd appreciate if you stick your head in every so often. She has slight breathing difficulties caused by her injuries. I should be back by lunchtime. If not, start without me. There's plenty of food so help yourselves." "Ok Dan." Responded Stabler and his friend departed on his parish rounds. Alex was so engulfed in her work she failed to realise that the time had moved on. She began to gasp for air and switched on the machine and applied the mask. At that same moment there was a slight knock at the door and Stabler entered with a tray. He was alarmed when he saw Alex with the oxygen mask. She just waved him in. After a few minutes Alex switched off the machine and replaced the mask. "Are you ok?" asked Stabler with concern. "I'm fine now, thank you Elliott." "Time for a break." "But..." "You're not going to refuse the famous Stabler sandwich now, are you?" asked Stabler with a smile. Alex sat back and sighed. She took off her rectangular rimmed glasses and put them on the desk. "How could refuse an invitation like that? She asked with a laugh. Stabler admired Alex. She was strong, determined and courageous. Her blonde hair reflected sunlight as it beamed through the window. Ever since she had been shot a close bond had grown between all three of them. After a mouthful of food that she washed down with coffee Alex looked up at Stabler. "Father Dan isn't like any priest I know." Elliott Stabler laughed. "He was ME for upstate New York before he entered the priesthood. He and Jack were part of some sort of secret team. I don't know the details but the word is they worked to help prominent defectors and their families escape from the Iron Curtain." Alex was astonished. "Why did he become a priest?" asked Alex. "Only he knows that, Alex. I think it had something to do with his girlfriend's murder." Alex just nodded. Dan did not arrive back until seven. He, Alex, Stabler and Sister Elizabeth had dinner together. Olivia arrived just before nine. When she saw Alex she couldn't control herself as she hugged her protectively. "Oh Alex, when we heard of the explosion we feared the worst. How are you now?" "I'm ok, thanks to Father Moore and Sister Elizabeth," replied Alex. Olivia nodded to them both as if in gratitude. Sister Elizabeth left for the convent and the others settled down and watched TV in the living room. At about ten thirty Alex stretched her arms and yawned. "I think I'll call it a day." "Let me help you," said Olivia as she helped Alex to her feet and led her to the bedroom. Olivia waited in the bedroom until Alex returned from the bathroom dressed in her sweat shirt and shorts. She sat on the bed and proceeded to brush her long blonde hair. Because her right arm and wrist were heavily bandaged she found it difficult to brush. "Damn!" she cried in frustration. "Here, give it to me," said Olivia as she sat beside her friend and began to brush. "So what do you think of your host? She asked curiously. "He's cute," responded Alex. "Cute?" asked Olivia in surprise. Alex laughed at Olivia's reaction. She took Olivia's hand and squeezed it gently. She also proceeded to tell her about her attack and rescue at the hands of Father Dan. With a final stretch Alex slid into the bed. Olivia rolled the covers up. As she looked at Alex she felt a tickling sensation in her heart. She considered kissing Alex on the lips but hesitated, settling instead to kiss her on the forehead. "Sleep well, sweetie," she said as she got up switched off the light and closed the bedroom door. *** It was still dark when Dan woke with a start. Then he heard the scream again. 'My God, Alex!' he thought as he leapt from his bed. Reaching to a drawer, he took out an old revolver and rushed downstairs. The door to Alex's bedroom was open and the light was on. "It's alright Alex. You're safe now. It was only a nightmare." Dan realised it was Olivia's voice. He slipped the revolver into the pocket of his gown before he entered the bedroom. Olivia had her arms around the distressed young woman trying to console her. "I-I'm sorry," sobbed Alex. Dan disappeared for a few moments returning with a glass with a milky white liquid that he was stirring. "Here Alex, drink this. It'll help you sleep." Alex did so. Olivia eased her back. She could see Alex struggle as her eyes struggled. After a few moments though her body finally surrendered to the inevitable. "She'll sleep better now," said Dan. "Thank you Father," responded Olivia. "It's Dan and you're very welcome. If you'd like to put your head down then feel free to use the room opposite." "Thanks but I think I'll stay with Alex," responded Olivia. "Ok." Dan left the room. He looked at the clock. It was almost six. 'Not much point in going back to bed,' he thought. Instead he showered, dressed and decided to do some work in his office. *** It was well after nine when Alex woke up. Olivia had already left and Elliott was doing his usual security routine outside the house. She showered and dressed. Dan was in the dining room, having just returned from mass. "Well, good morning. Sister is not here today so you'll have to endure my cooking. Is scrambled egg alright?" asked Dan Alex just nodded. "Let's have a look at that arm," Dan went on. He took Alex arm and unwrapped the dressing. "Ah yes. That's coming on very nicely. It'll be good as new soon," he said with a smile as he put on a fresh dressing. Alex finally spoke. "Dan, I'm so sorry about last night. I don't know what's wrong with me." "Alex, you're traumatised. It is a perfectly natural reaction." Tears began to form in Alex eyes. "Oh, I wish it was that simple," she replied as she stood up and turned her back, at the same time trying to hide the tears. Dan stood up and put his hands on her shoulders. "Alex, what is it? What's troubling you? You can tell me." Alex turned around and faced Dan. For a moment she hesitated, tears still streaming down her face. Dan waited patiently, nodding in the hope of encouraging Alex to speak. Finally she began to open up. "Two years ago an informant agreed to testify in a trial. Then, right before my eyes he was blown up." "Tim Donovan?" asked Dan. "Did you know him?" asked Alex in surprise. "I did," responded Dan. "Oh Dan, There's not a day goes by when that I don't think of him. If I hadn't pushed him to testify he would be alive. His wife wouldn't be a widow and his children would have a dad." Alex wept bitterly on Dan's shoulder. At that moment the door of the dining room opened and Elliott Stabler stood there. Dan waved at him and he left, gently closing the door behind him. "Oh Alex, My dear girl, you're punishing yourself unnecessarily." said Dan. Alex pulled away. "What do you mean?" she sobbed. "I knew Tim, Alex. He knew exactly what he was doing." Alex just shook her head. "Let me tell you a story to illustrate what I mean," continued Dan. "I was a young boy when I first came to this country. One of the first people I befriended was Tim. We grew up together. As kids we played in the back alleys of the city. Tim used to imagine he was Randolph Scott or John Wayne heading into the West to rescue his girl." Law & Order SVU (Alex's Refuge) For the first time Alex laughed. "It's good to see you laugh, Alex. I want to see more of it." Dan continued his story. "The day before he was killed I met him in the street. He reminded me of how he liked to be the hero. Now he had a real life chance to fulfil that role. He didn't elaborate but I knew he had come to a decision. A decision, I guessed correctly, that could cost him his life." "But why?" stuttered Alex. "That was exactly what I asked him 'Why?' He turned turn me and without hesitation he replied 'Because it is the right thing to do, Dan'" For the second time Alex was speechless. "So you see Alex, It was Tim's decision alone. Not yours, the DA's or anyone else's. You have no reason to feel guilty, Alex Cabot." For a moment Alex was silent. "Is that the truth?" she asked trying to recover her composure. "I would never deceive you, Alex. On my oath as a priest and all I hold sacred it is the total truth. Now sit down and have breakfast," responded Dan as he handed Alex some tissues. Alex felt that an enormous weight had been lifted from her shoulders. Tears of sadness gave way to tears of joy as Alex hugged Dan. "Thank you, oh thank you," she whispered. Alex went to the bathroom and Dan knocked at the window to Stabler. "Is everything all right?" asked Elliott anxiously. "Just fine Elliott. Have some coffee." Dan noticed the tension in the room as they continued breakfast. Clearly it was the first time Elliott had seen Alex crying and he felt awkward. At the same time Alex felt uneasy, not knowing what to say. Dan cleared his throat. "I've been thinking. It's my day off tomorrow. Why don't the three of us head off and do a spot of fishing?" "What?" asked Elliott and Alex in unison. "I'm on duty tomorrow," protested Elliott. "You will be on duty. Your job is to protect Alex," responded Dan. "But I have a lot of work to do," interjected Alex. "It's nothing that won't keep, Alex and besides, a little sea air will do us all good." said Dan. "What will I tell Cragen?" asked Elliott. "Tell him the truth. We're going out for some fresh air. Alex has been here almost a week and a change of scenery will do us all good." Dan continued "Any more excuses?" There was silence. "Good, be ready by seven tomorrow morning." *** The following morning all three left in Dan's four wheel drive. Alex and Elliott hid underneath some sheets until they were away from the street. After a short drive they arrived at the waterfront. Alex and Elliott followed Dan as they walked along the pier. It was a warm day and Alex wore a white top and matching pants. Her blonde hair was in a ponytail and she wore a baseball cap. Dan and Elliott were dressed in short sleeved shirts and shorts. All three carried a fishing rod and basket. "Ah, here it is," said Dan as he stopped and looked at the yacht. "You own this yacht?" Alex asked Dan in amazement. "On my Salary? No such luck. It belongs to a parishioner. He allows me to take it out every once in a while." Dan was first on board. He reached out his hand and helped Alex up. Elliott stowed the gear away, including a mobile oxygen machine that they fortunately hadn't to use. Dan reached to his basket and produced a replica naval cadet cap. "Here you go Alex. Welcome aboard, skipper," he said as he handed to cap to her. They all laughed. "Take a seat on the bow, Alex. Cast off Elliott and I'll start up the engine." After a travelling several miles out to sea Dan cut the engine. He nodded to Elliott who took two rods and went to the bow where Alex was seated. He put one in a slot in front of Alex and the other in another slot and sat beside her. Dan sat on her other side and also placed his rod. "Root beer?" he asked as he handed each of them an ice cool bottle. They accepted gratefully. "So what happens now?" asked Alex, lifting her dark sunglasses and looking at Dan. "We sit, wait and relax," came Dan's reply. Elliott couldn't help but to laugh at his friend's carefree response. As the hours drifted by Dan and Elliott caught just some small fish. They had just about given up when Alex's rod began to be tugged. "Wow Alex, you've got something," cried Elliott excitedly as he grabbed the rod. Initially there was a battle of wills but finally Elliott reeled in and a huge fish landed on the deck. "Salmon for supper, Dan." he said. "We've been outdone Elliott and by a girl who never fished in her life," laughed Dan. After taking a photograph of Alex holding her catch they headed back. It was already dark when they reached he rectory. "Oh, oh. I know that look," said Elliott from the back passenger seat as he spied Olivia in her dark leather jacket. Her arms were folded and her face donned a frown. "Where have you lot been?" asked Olivia in an almost school mom fashion. "Fishing," was Dan's simple reply. "Fishing?" said Olivia in a disbelieving tone. She turned to Alex. "You, went fishing?" she asked her friend. "Ah huh." was all Alex replied. "You didn't hear the best of it. Alex caught the biggest fish. Show her Alex," said Elliott. Alex opened her bag and proudly stood holding her catch. Olivia was stunned. "Well, I've got a family to go home to so I'll say goodnight," said Elliott as he headed for his car. Dan led Olivia and Alex into the rectory and prepared supper. After supper and as they prepared to clear up the phone rang. Dan answered it in the study. After a few moments he returned to the kitchen. "That was a parishioner. Her mother is seriously ill and not expected to make it through the night." "Oh, I'm sorry," said Alex. "I've got to go over to her. I'll be late back so don't wait up and I'll see you in the morning." With that Dan left. Alex and Olivia washed up. Then Alex stretched. "I'm bushed. I think I'll hit the sack." she said. Just like the first night, Olivia followed Alex to the bedroom and waited until she changed. When Alex sat on the bed Olivia took the brush and proceeded to brush her friend's hair. "So it looks like you had a good time," she said quizzically. Alex sighed. Oh Liv, it was strange. I've made a career of prosecuting sex offenders, most of them men and yet there I was in the middle of the ocean with of them and I never felt so safe and secure." 'Liv?' thought Olivia. She never called her that before. "And what were you thinking while you were out there? Asked Olivia, as she continued to brush Alex's hair. Alex thought for a moment. "I thought of the quiet nights in Wisconsin and how lonely I was. How I missed you and how lucky I was to have you." Olivia put down the brush and wiped a tear from her eye. She was about to speak when Alex suddenly began to gasp for air. Olivia switched on the machine and handed Alex the mask. After a few minute she removed the mask and began to breathe normally. Alex put her hand to her neck and began to rub it. "What's wrong?" asked Olivia. "Oh I'm just a bit stiff," responded Alex. Olivia knelt on the bed and began to massage Alex's shoulders. "Oh God, that feels so good," sighed Alex with obvious pleasure. "If you ever get tired of being a police officer you'd make a great masseuse." said Alex. Olivia laughed. Alex turned and stared at Olivia. She looked into Olivia's eyes as if appealing to her. For the first time in the years they had worked together Alex and Olivia's eyes were suddenly locked on each other. As the seconds ticked by both women hesitated, wondering could they? Should they? Both waited, hoping the other would make the initial move. Cautiously they moved closer. Their mouths were on a collision course and there was no turning back. They shut their eyes as their moist lips met. The impact produced an electric like sensation that went through their entire bodies. The kiss was long and passionate. When they finally broke off they realised it wasn't enough they suddenly became overwhelmed by years of pent up sexual desires. Olivia quickly removed her jacket and green polo neck top, revealing her black lace bra in the process. Alex eased her sweat shirt revealing her wonderful bare and firm breasts. Olivia went down gently on Alex and kissed her passionately. Alex grabbed her friend and returned the kiss with equal passion. Breaking her kiss, Olivia proceeded to move down Alex's shoulder, her lips kissing and her tongue licking as she went. Each movement brought a fresh moan from Alex. She had experienced lesbian love in college but nothing like this. Olivia halted momentarily as she reached Alex's breasts. She removed her bra and rubbed her breasts against Alex's. Olivia could tell it excited Alex. She then began to suck on Alex's nipples alternately. Travelling down Alex slim waist, Olivia stopped and began to remove Alex's shorts. Alex eased herself up to assist her. The sight of Alex's beautiful naked body excited Olivia and soon she too was naked. She pushed her friend's smooth legs apart and began to drill through her pussy lips with her tongue. "Oh my God!" cried Alex several times in obvious excitement as the sensation of Olivia's tongue lashed her clit. Alex was in sheer ecstasy and only wished that it would last forever. Finally she felt her love juices starting to gather. "Yeees" she exhaled excitedly as her orgasm, the biggest she had ever experienced, burst forth. After a moment in which she gathered her thoughts, Alex turned Olivia on her back and copied each of her actions. It also resulted in Olivia's biggest orgasm. After several moments, Olivia, who was resting on Alex breast looked up at her friend. "We shouldn't be doing this," she said. "We already have," responded Alex with a smile. "But I'm on duty." "You're here to protect me and that's just what you're doing. Besides, what happens if I have another nightmare?" laughed Alex. Olivia laughed too. "That's true," she replied as she snuggled up to Alex soft and warm body. "Just a few moments more then," Olivia continued. "Oh Alex, Don't leave me. I do love you. I lost you once and I don't want to loose you again." she said. "Whatever happens Liv, I promise we won't ever be separated again. Somehow we will be together. I don't want to be alone ever again either," proclaimed Alex soothingly. Olivia's heart beat rapidly when she heard this and she once again rested her head on Alex's breast. The minutes ticked away into hours until finally both lovers fell asleep, cradled in each others' arms. *** It was well after midnight when Dan returned. He could see the light was on in the living room so he assumed Olivia was there. To his surprise the room was empty. Thinking she had put her head down he checked the room opposite Alex's. This too was empty. Dan could see that Alex's room was dark. He opened the door slightly and was amazed at the sight of Alex and Olivia asleep together. He wasn't really surprised though. He closed the door with equal gentleness and smiled. *** Olivia was the first to wake as she felt the heat of the early morning sun. She checked her watch. It was just after six. She gently released herself from Alex's arms and let her friend sleep on as she made her way to the shower. As the jets of hot steamy water cascaded around her Olivia began to think of the events of the previous night. She couldn't believe she had just violated regulations and made love to the person she was supposed to be guarding. She had heard Alex declare her love for her and Olivia had made the same declaration to Alex. It all seemed like a dream. Olivia was so lost in her thoughts she never noticed Alex stepping into the shower. She was startled when Alex gently cupped her breasts. It made Olivia jump. She turned and faced Alex. "But..." Olivia was prevented from protesting forward as Alex kissed her passionately as the spray of hot water continued to fall about them. This time Alex took command and began to work her way down Olivia's naked wet flesh and she moaned with sheer delight with each of Alex's gentle movements. As Alex knelt and gripped Olivia's hips her tongue began to gently drill through her pussy lips and once again lash her clit. "Oh Alex!" cried Olivia as they reached the point of no return. "Keep going Alex. Please, keep going." begged Olivia, not caring who heard her and that included Father Dan. Finally Olivia gave a deep sigh of sexual satisfaction as she had yet another massive orgasm. She, in turn, proceeded to work on Alex, producing the same result. After they dried off and dressed they headed for the dining room. To their amazement Dan was already there and Sister Elizabeth was serving breakfast. Olivia and Alex wondered had either Dan or Sister Elizabeth had heard them. If they did, they said nothing. Elliott arrived just before nine and Olivia left. He had a rectangular box in his hand. Dan looked at it curiously. "Backgammon? I hope you'll let the lady win a few games, laughed Dan. "I wouldn't count on it," Alex answered in a mock frown. Dan laughed again as he left for his rounds. *** It was lunchtime when he returned. It was as they sat down to lunch that the phone rang and Dan answered. "It's for you Elliott. It's Captain Cragen." he said as he handed Elliott the phone. After a few minutes Elliott returned to the table. "The Captain want's to see you in his office Alex, and he asked me to take you." "Oh I see. I'd better change first," responded Alex. "Finish your breakfast first," said Dan in a firm and fatherly tone. Alex obeyed. After changing into her grey business jacket and skirt Alex came into the hallway. Dan came from his office and met her. "Well now, this is the Alex Cabot I remember. Back in the old country we'd say a beautiful colleen." said Dan. Alex smiled. "Thank you Dan," she said as she hung her purse over her shoulder and proceeded to the car where Elliott was waiting. Dan worked on paperwork in his study all that afternoon. Eventually he took his own advice and took a break. He switched on his compact disc player and sat back to listen to his favourite classical music. Soon he became wrapped in a dreamy world of bygone memories. His thoughts were broken when a hand touched his shoulder. Dan opened his eyes. "Alex!" he said, startled as the blonde woman stood there smiling. "I didn't hear you come in." he continued. "Strauss Waltzes Father?" was all Alex responded with a smile. Dan switched off the disc. "Vanity, Alex. It reminds me of my younger days when I was free and easy," smiled Dan, slightly embarrassed. "I bet you were an elegant dancer too," responded Alex with a laugh. "I'm not sure about elegant but I wasn't bad," smiled Dan. Alex took the remote control and the music resumed. "Show me," she demanded as she put out her arms. "I haven't waltzed in years," protested Dan. "Come on, you remember," pressed Alex as she took Dan's arms and they began to waltz around the small study. "You're not bad," said Alex with surprise. "Thank you. You're pretty good yourself," replied Dan. "That comes from very expensive schooling paid by Mom and Uncle Bill," laughed Alex. "So what did Cragen want?" asked Dan, still holding Alex in his arms. "Sanchez was killed by Colombian forces yesterday and most of his gang with him. Elliott and Olivia will be here later to help me move back to my apartment." responded Alex. "Well, that's great news. I'll miss you though." "I'll miss you too, Dan" said Alex. "Would you let me take you to lunch? I feel I owe you so much," continued Alex. "You don't have to do that, Alex. It was my pleasure." Alex persisted. "Please," she said. "Ok." said Dan gratefully. *** Later that evening Elliott and Olivia put the last of Alex's bags into the car. Alex stood in the hallway and nodded to Olivia. "We'll wait in the car," said Olivia and she and her partner left the house. Dan came up to Alex. "I have a little gift for you, Alex." he said as he handed her a small gift wrapped package. "Oh you shouldn't have, Dan." responded Alex as she unwrapped it. It was a small statue inside a box. "It's Saint Robert, patron saint of lawyers. I hope you're not offended?" said Dan uneasily. "Not at all. I'm very touched, really I am." replied Alex as she carefully put it into her purse. Dan took Alex's hands. "So Counsellor Alexandra Cabot, How are you feeling?" "Ta me go maith," replied Alex. Dan laughed. "Where did you learn Gaelic? Asked Dan, taken aback. "Oh we have some staff from the 'old country' as you put it, working in the office. Did I get it right?" "If you meant 'you are well', then you got it one hundred per cent, Dan replied with a smile. Once again Dan held Alex's hands. "Alex, I hope and pray you will always be safe." "Thank you Dan," responded Alex as a tear dropped from her eye. "You have my cell phone number Alex, so if you need to talk or there is anything else I can do then don't hesitate." said Dan "Thank you, Dan. You've been so kind." Alex responded. Dan looked to the door and turned back to Alex. "There's someone out there waiting for you Alex. Someone you really need and she needs you," said Dan. Alex blushed. "Thank you for your discretion Dan," she said as she kissed him on the cheek. "Goodbye." "It doesn't have to be goodbye, Alex. After all, we both frequent Hannigan's bar." Alex laughed. "That's right, I'd quite forgotten. Until we meet again then?" "Until we meet again," responded Dan. He opened the door and Olivia jumped from her impatient posture of leaning on the side of the car with her arms folded and opened the back passenger door. Alex gave Dan a final wave as she got into the car. Dan couldn't but notice Alex gently squeezing Olivia's hand as she did so. All three gave a wave as the car drove away. For a moment Dan stood there and remembered the night he had found Alex and Olivia sleeping peacefully together. Alex's own question came back to him. "What would his Bishop say?" Dan chuckled as he closed the door.
