"Watching the Whales"
...a song parody by Actaeon

(Sung to the tune of John Lennon's "Watching the Wheels")

(Written and posted 8/23/97)

Nature is suggestive, always coming into season
People hide from the world in shadows, to keep them from reason
When adults teach the birds and bees, they mumble through the truth
"I hope this answers all your needs," they say to modern youth

People shouldn't fear it, love is a pleasure
And it comes to us in every form, in every measure
When I look upon the world today, I see blinders on its face
And I'm grateful for the joy I get from every different race

I'm just sitting here watching the whales go swimming by
As they make love out at sea
Embarrassed tourists turn away with a sigh
Oh, what fools these mortals be

The pornography of nature is lost on the masses
Teachers cover no erotica in biology classes
So it comes as no surprise our education is self-taught
And our research earns an A if we can keep from getting caught

I'm just sitting here watching the whales come into heat
Though other people shade their eyes
I think it's jealousy of a blue whale's ten feet
That really cuts us down to size
It really cuts us down to size
It really cuts us down to size
