Well thanks to /co/'s Jungle Hugo thread with Rita in a compromising position that was running all day yesterday I cracked and saw the movies today for the first time....

Those are some fun movies I have to say. They reminded me of Brave Little Toaster in style and concept with the idea of exploring new territory all for the sake of reaching a particular goal.

And yes Rita was cute as fuck. For once I don't mind a "competent female and kinda worthless guy" combo since for once Rita isn't the typical annoying type who say smacks the male protagonist around and boy did Hugo deserve a slap at times.

That said kinda sad that the second movie ends on a total cliffhanger. We don't know if they make it to their destination and how trust worthy is the cartoon series when it came out many years after the second film's release.

It's not like Aladdin's TV series coming so soon after Return of Jafar.

But anyways a very enjoyable romp. I can see why /co/ such a cult following for these films.

Forgot that Rita was a tsundere in that scene.

Also did they ever explain what happened to her mother and siblings? They were ditched out of nowhere while the humans were hunting for Hugo.

Is it just me or was Hugo a tad on the....bisexual side?

Despite all his huggy moments with Rita he canonically kisses four guys.

    - The two monkeys from the jungle.
    - The lizard thing that crashes into his face.
    - The human cook who was nice to him.

Here's how I would end the series. Because Hugo's existence is public it becomes too dangerous to be around him for other animals and it hurts his relationship with Rita what with constant threat of meddling humans like hunters who want to catch Hugo.

End result a human in an ironic twist comes to give Hugo respite in the form of a pity kill. Hugo is smart as he understands humans. It is explained to him how futile it is to run and that he will never know peace.

He eventually accepts this truth and opts for death. He's put to sleep and then injected with poison. Rita is shot and in death they're both together forever.

I remember how pissed of i got about the cliffhanger ending the second movie had. I really wondered what happened to them. 10 years later when they finally decides to tell, to much time has passed.
I really would have wished that the series had started like maybe a year after the second more,
And that the 3rd movie was a 2D animation rather than 3D

And yeah. I have to agree that Rita is a lovely character.

Well never saw that flick. The last one I saw was My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Never again. Main lead is the biggest hypocrite ever.

That said I just said what I said to see the reaction /co/ gives.

That said if the series isn't dead after that abysmal CG flick, I'd like to see how the story would end. Some loose threads resolved like what happened to Rita's family after she left on the train with Hugo. Where does Hugo truly originate from as a species, etc.

    There's definitively material.

What is the third movie about?

On topic, one thing I really like about Rita and Hugo's relationship is that it's not an annoying "will they won't they" and they just hook up at the end and that's it end of story.

Nothing like that, they're a couple, they don't hide their feelings, and they have their fights and struggle to keep their relationship alive. That's better than the generic drivel we see from too many movies as if "And they kissed and went to live happily ever after" is ending things on a satisfying note.

Sure she mentioned to start considering having her own den, but that while away to look after her little brothers who were still too young and needed to be looked after. Needless to say we all know how that turned out.

As for her age, she's definitively a teenager in the first movie and nearing her "young adult" years considering how her mother insists on her moving out.

Was it just me or was Rita's mother kind of a bitch? She wanted her only daughter to move out to make room for her three siblings. Mind you Rita mentions that her siblings would "soon be big" like around Rita's age herself, but unlike her there were no upcoming demands that they move out soon as well.

It seems like Rita's mother was living a tough life and took it out on her daughter.

This. Though minus the crush for me.

But the main issue is that Hugo is a very unremarkable main character. At best he's fairly bland. Some things about him piss me off like how he promised Rita he would visit her in a year's time and yet he never did. He needed to get kidnapped and brought back to the city to see her again. He knew the way back yet it never occured to him to get off his emo ass and go see her. This leads to the depressing beginning of the second movie with Rita being scolded by her mother telling her to forget a bum like Hugo who won't come back.

Other antics he does seriously make me rage like pissing off those cats in the first movie and after Rita saves him he acts completely oblivious to the situation saying "heh we made it out alright" when without Rita he would have been sliced and diced by those murderous felines.

Knowing studios, the next move in this series to make is to have Rita and Hugo conceive a child and suddenly that baby becomes the focus of their attention and whatever sparks of their personalities were present are now sucked away due to the dull process of being a "mature parent."

I hated that bullshit when it happened to Little Foot in Land Before Time 2 with Chomper the baby T-Rex. Sure he wasn't truly Little Foot's kid, but the idea of the main leads focusing all their attention on babies is a seriously unlikable cliche. It's boring, it assumes the viewer/reader cares about that plot device, and can permanently cripple the characters. Permanent cases like Fairly Odd Parents with Poof come to mind.

With Little Foot thankfully it was temporary since Chomper was gone once the movie ended and the other sequels came.

Hugo is not bland. He is certainly NOT a loveable loser(like many a Disney protagonist); he can and will stand up for himself, outsmart some foes even. Yes, he is a bit self-centered, but that is basically from living in the jungle where everyone was afraid of him and food was available for free. He did even save Rita on one occasion (movie 2). All in all, the guy is decent and needs moar love from /co/.

After all its implied time passed in the sequel since Rita's siblings got older and Rita is shown to have been waiting for a long time for Hugo to pay her a visit.

Well twas fun while it lasted. Youtube has all the episodes of the TV series, but only til episode 8 subbed. From 9 til the end its pure Danish in its uncut form which means I can't understand crap about what the characters are saying.

Actually I forgot to mention, the series does have its flaws. They really tone down the lovy antics between Hugo and Rita so they behave more like friends. Granted she does get possessive of Hugo when she meets his jungle friends complaining about having to share him.

Another aspect they kinda wrecked is Rita's attitude towards humans. In the movies she wants nothing to do with them and even insults Hugo's decision to be tamed by them just to get food.

But in the series not only does she care for a human baby (that was a major pain in the fucking ass, seriously what is it about babies that makes them so annoying?) but she also acts completely domesticated when meeting the cook character who Hugo befriends in the first movie while on that ship.

So you could say they tampered with Rita's character.

Yeah, sort of. Something like Jack finally manages to get back home, but it also means he is forever separated from Rita? Like I said, I saw this 15 years ago the last time, maybe more. It was called Jungle Jack here, not Jungledyret Hugo. I recall the city scenes were something like that Tom & Jerry short where Jerry decides to leave to the big city, and has TONS of fun but also has to deal with freaky alley cats who are like sabertooth tigers when compared to Tom.

    Let's see...

    - Abandons her younger siblings while her mother is away.
    - Is basically living in "sin" because she's very much in a relationship and living together with a guy out of wedlock. We all know that religious nuts would despise this as it teaches kids the wrong morals and lessons.
    - Feminists would complain that Rita is dragged down by her attachment to Hugo because for all her ability he's the only reason her life is "worth living."

If Rita was human the movie would get seriously edited and altered. Its precisely because she's an animal that they can get away with all this. But to be fair I don't think American studios could ever create a female animal character like Rita to begin with, not back then and much less now in these strongly PC Watchdog friendly days.

The clown, the flower dying, the spare parts shop where electronics were torn apart, the dumpster, the whole flash light's "taking one for the team" moment, the vaccum and the waterfall. Did I leave anything out?

They didn't downplay the danger that these characters were in whenever it popped up. In Jungledyret they never try. Sure they don't want to kill Hugo, but Rita should have been in danger more. Only one time was danger directed specifiacally at her and she was forwarned with plenty of time to dodge it.

Well to be fair they didn't emphasize that Rita and Hugo needed to breath. So there was no sense of desperation like how in Little Mermaid after Ariel recently becomes human she is drowning and shows a face of utter shock and desperation to breathe air. Without emphasizing the pressure the characters are under, the scene fails to leave an impression IMO.

This has become just an "extension" of the old thread. It doesn't have the attention it had like the previous one. Probably because /co/ is "tired" of hearing about Jungledyret so much recently. You want this archived try again months later by which time talking about this will seem "fresher." Probably helps if you start it up using a picture of Rita since lord knows nobody cares for Hugo himself.

If I was never born, I'd have no knowledge or conscious understanding of my own "potential existence" so no harm done. Adults choosing not to have kids is not the same as "getting an abortion."

And the reason I oppose kids in stuff is because it automatically makes the "parents" lamer. Their focus is their kid, they're made shells of their former self, in some cases the kid outclasses his/her parents, etc and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to see tired stories about "passing the torch" with a less than entertaining character.

Which is why I'm glad Katara and Aang's kid in Legend of Korra is a support character rather than a protagonist. Then again Katara and Aang always sucked.

I know. I mean I get that Hugo is a liiving relic of an animal and all. But despite being made up for the movies/show and not based on anything there's nothing supernatural about him. He's an animal who has habits similar to primates, but eats plants and meat like a bear. That's really it as far as "out there" elements go for the series.

The idea of bringing in Santa Claus and his elves is a tad....much.

Well I've been watching the Jungledyret TV series and I have to say they really went into a retarded direction. It's not just Santa's Elves who truly are part of the series, but literally trolls make appearances.

What's next? Pegasus and unicorns? This was a very stupid direction to take the series on. I mean it works for Aladdin to try and include Egyptian elements due to being pure fantasy despite Arabbian Nights having nothing to do with Egyptian myths.

The fact is that in Jungledyret we're presented with a world that's very down to earth with no real supernatural elements....til nearing the end of the 13 episodes when they introduce the Santa elf at episode 10 and follow up with the trolls. Ouch. The only thing missing is sci fi elements like aliens making it in before I reach episode 13.

    God what an awful development.

Well the third movie is "more of the same" random people want Hugo and it seems like they want him again to make a movie, but some scientists want to catch him so they can clone him and make millions of the clones and some characters from the TV series are back in the third film while some from the 2D movies return.

Its a very unengaging plot. Not saying the previous movies were ground breaking, but the 2D look gave them their charm. With that hideous 3D that makes Jimmy Neutron look good, you got a very unpleasant movie there.

If you're going to watch the series I'd recommend you start from episode 4 or five. You see the first four or so episodes are about Hugo and Rita babysitting this really annoying loud crying baby from a rich family who is a kidnap target. Its a major derailment to the whole "Hugo and Rita want to find a home" plot line.

Watch the first episode since it picks up from where movie 2 ends, but it plants the seeds of that stupid baby mini arc. Then by episode 9 is when the series goes down in quality again IMO by introducing that Santa Elf character who is kind of annoying IMO, but not as grating as that baby.

Well I haven't seen the movie, but saw a clip of the third movie showing all the characters doing the "wula wula clap clap" catch phrase while INCLUDING the cub they look after in the third movie. I think its a mainstay for the franchise. Fucking weak.

I hate whenever there are babies in this stuff. They particularly ruin female characters especially if they are competent independent and headstrong. Suddenly they become wishy washy wet blanket doormats for those annoying crap machines.

Seeing Rita suddenly be all motherly is not a good sight. It's like her losing all of her personalit and spunk. Kind of like how Misty in Pokemon lost her spunk (even if it made her a tad bitchy) when Togepi came around to suck her personality away while being stuck in her really annoying position of "carrying the baby" pose.

America COULD make cartoons like these. But it would require execs and suits who tell watchdogs and the PC police and such groups to FUCK OFF.

Kind of like how Animaniacs had protection of the such from complaining groups.

Rita's character got a tad derailed and hit some curve balls.

In the movies she's very much neutral in her place in the world. In the series she behaves more feral and quite literally attacks humans. But then again she also allows herself to get "domesticated" by some humans even though in the movies she detested the idea of being a pet. When Hugo blows his human cook friend a kiss, Rita does the same. Talk about major derailment.

For that matter she even allows that Santa Elf to ride her like a horse. I guess Rita is the biggest victim of derailment in the TV series. Hugo stays relatively the same.

By saying that line he meant "put cute animals in it and it will make lots of money".

    He was the bad guy.

IRL, they decided to make the TV series, just to make lots of money (the films were VERY successful in Denmark)

Going by how the series was cut at 13 episodes for whatever reason I think their experiment failed. The one thing I'll give is that their series had good continuity between usage of its own characters as well as characters who appeared in the movies.

And this is technically a Part 2 from the previous Jungledyret thread with Rita in a compromising position from her "dig a den" song.

And never doubt the charm of "fox chicks" those usually get the most attention. I mean Angelique from Rango barely exists and yet she has /co/'s attention in the topics for the film. Never failing to be mentioned. That said, Rita's biggest charm is her personality IMO.

And here's a nice fanmade rough animation of Rita being D'aww:

Shitty catchphrase AND retardedly forced romance with Superboy to the point she's willing to let comrades rot and die that makes her highly unlikable. How at this point she has zero potential for characterization beyond her crush while Artemis who is an original character for the cartoon has such material makes Megan seem like total ass of a character. The fact that she may be (not even fully confirmed) a White Martian is a very minor detail compared to everything shse embodies thus far in the show.

I think it's interesting that the main villain from 2 second movie was so underplayed in the first one. Basically just doing everything Izabella demanded of him
And in the sequel he has become an evil bastard who'll burn down a whole freakin jungle, kill animals and genrally being the mastermind behind everything.

I think Izabella's greed and obsession rubbed off on him. I kind of liked him more when he was a "Meh I just don't care" kind of guy. How he lost was a tad pathetic. Telling Sensuela that she can be replaced so he falls victim to the "woman scorned" cliche was a tad....idiotic. Oh well though was stopped it wasn't by the cops but the drugs that put him to sleep. Don't think he went to prison since there was no evidence of what he was being accused of. Hugo was nowhere in sight.

Not at all. However the professor he hired to tame Hugo in the second movie does appear in the early episodes. He's the moron who makes Hugo's existence public in the early episodes which is why a string of too many humans start hunting for him and put Wanted posters throughout the series.

The professor re-appears in the final episodes of the TV series and does continue to appear in the ugly CG movie. For that matter one of the antagonist from the TV series has a major role in the third film, the rich millionare who claims Hugo is an animal that represents his family crest.

    Here it goes:
The move starts from where the series end.
This time 2 scientist and a rich guy chase him.
He gets captured a lot with Rita, and then escapes. By a lot I think in total 4-6 times.
So its basically the same plot from the series and the second movie, but this time they want to either keep him as pet, make a commercial with him, study him or cut him in bits.
The music is bad, not that cool movie jazzy tune in the 2nd movie. The music is bland kids movie music, and that one song where one of the scientist sings about how evil he is, its the worst movie music I have ever heard.
The CGI is not bad, but still the characters look like dolls, and there is a lot of mistakes.

The ruins, they show them for 5 seconds, and the pictures are not explained. Hugo just says oh they look like me, and that is all. Basically the story forgot about that.
The movie ends with one of the scientist catches Hugo and wants to dissect him however the others catch him before killing Hugo. The meatball guy then tells the scientist and the rich guy that they shouldn't pressure Hugo so much so whenever they want to study him they should approach him peacefully and bullshit like that. So in the end they build a huge theme park in the jungle, and that patch where Hugo and Rita live is a wild habitat for animals so they can study him without bothering or coming near him. Oh and they show the jungle dog again but he lives with his real mother.

I never grew up with these movies. I just saw them for the first time in these recent days. It's just that Rita's character was just purely adorable as hell. Plus she was never in such a position in the movies as the pic shows.

That said the sooner this topic expires the sooner I can start forgetting about all this. The less you dwell on such thoughts the better for your psyche.

Speaking of which. Have some clown Rita from the TV series. It may be a bastardization of the character (I mean performing for humans despite expressing her pride in being a wild animal), but she looks all sorts of d'aww.

And worse yet is that they KEEP videos about pissing, farting, and scat as if Youtube was a hardcore fetish website.

I've flagged a shit load of such disgusting videos that NOT even websites like Megaporn would host and yet they remain untouched for YEARS. Much less do they ban the bastards who upload this kind of garbage.

But nah what really offends them is copyright claims over a movie that is TOO old and TOO obscure to mean anything due to a faggot with a rusty dildo up his ass. Fuck humanity. I hope Youtube crumbles one day permanently.

Is the topic like in auto-sage mode already? If so then it got "archived" in the nick of time. Lasting 4 days is no easy feat for an obscure film like this. That's not even getting into the previous Jungledyret thread that also lasted its share of days.

Almost like /co/ had an unusually big hard on for nostalgia. Anyways, if this is the end then good work /co/.

Sorry, its just that I thought you saw the episode. Hugo is also wearing clown make up and thought you were talking about him for a second as well. Anyways yeah if you don't give it too much thought and just enjoy in all the fun its a cute little sequence. Speaking of which, the only time in the TV series when Rita dances imitating her behavior in the movies is when she meets Hugo's lone human cook friend.

You get so used to seeing her do dance antics like in the movies' songs you forget about that aspect of the character's personality.

As for banning vids on YT. I once talked to a staff member and they told me basically that TOO many videos get flagged and because of this and a lack of staff members to moderate all this too many "slip through the cracks." So its basically the high level of incompetence on YT's part. It also might seem like banning someone and deleting their horrible vids is not as easy as 1 2 3 either. But I'm not sure. All I know is that they're underhanded and this gives an opportunity for so many garbage videos.

I think i will take a look in the Tiger store tommorow and see if i can find DVDs of both the movies and shows. Or maybe i should look in Fona. They have all sort of old shit.

And about YT. I can MAYBE see th logic in blocking a video if 3rd party have requested for that BUT i think it's going to far when they remove and ban users for uploading very innocent non-harmfull content because of all this stupid Copyright crap.
I REALLY doubt that any company would loose any kind of relevant money because a little video clip or 1 minute long song is on Youtube.

Good luck on the movie hunt then.

Not to mention the movie is not exactly easy to find either. This is why I don't oppose or criticize those who do full blown piracy. These asswipe companies are coming down on people for just clips of a movie? Then they deserve to have the full product pirated and shared for free throughout the internet.

The dwnld link under the video sucks (the MP3 copy sounds worse than the video itself).

So, I recorded the sound with Audacity, without compressing. Do not compress, or you will hurt the audio quality. File plays on iTunes and QuickTime Player:

I don't really get how big companies think. I can see why game companies wouldn't want people to pirate new games and such.
But why in the world would anyone have a problem with a little unknown cult film from Denmark that came out 15 years ago..
I don't see any good reason for that kind of shit.
If anything, it might attract people who never heard of the movie before.

It seems more like a stupid principle than any actual good reasont to me.
