holy shit it's already 12:27 that past two and a half hours passed like a fucking lightning bolt
the outline for Chapter 6 of Para Plegic is completely finished, and I banged together most of Chapter 7's outline tonight as well.
Chapter 6 is gonna be pretty hefty, but it should definitely fit this weekend. Gonna be drawing from the original greentext that I wrote before I started making this into a fic for the bullying scene. Though, don't expect the bullying to be the sole scene of substance in the chapter!
Really excited to finally get to working on 6 and 7!

>"Hey, that ratchet set is nice, who gave you that?"
>She wanted to yell at Ben, but it wasn’t his fault
>The ratchet set sat heavy on her lap and she didn’t have the will nor the strength to move it
>After fixing her makeup in the handicap stall, skipping most of her classes, and ignoring the texts piling up on her phone, she managed to at least meet up with her boyfriend after school
>”How was your theater period?”
>One look at his following wince, and he knew he realized his follow
>Poorly, if it went at all
>He lapses into silence alongside the para
>Embolden, partially out of romantic duty, partially from his girlfriends special day having gone so poorly, Ben wordlessly starts to push the para down the sidewalk
>Mia stirs just a little, waking at the sudden inertia
>But still silent
>Then, the blue para starts to gain a little speed
>”Ben... the fuck are you doing?"
>He veers hard, jolting the chair to the left
>”The fuck are you trying to do ben!? kill me!?"
>Then overcorrects, Mia bracing and leaning into the turn, sharpening it
>”Drifting, Mia!”
>"Well knock it off! Ben! knock it off, I'm not in the mood, Ben!"
>But her voice betrays her, little snickers poke through her sniffles
>The puny para doesn't listen, pushing as hard as he can until he lanklet legs burn
>Spirals of rubber burn onto the polished pavement as mia starts to laugh, rocking the chair with sudden turns and sharp pivots
>Winded, lungs burning, Ben tuckers out
>The chair slowly comes to a stop
>Mia's smile only lasts a second longer than the trip, but a second longer than it would have under the usual circumstances, before reforming into a neutral expression
>Uncertainty, memories, regret
>"C'mon, Mia, wasn't that fun?"
>"Tch!"

>He leans on her handlebars, salivating heavily as he dry lungs try to catch up
-"It... it was a little, ben. Thank you..."
>She places a hand on her wheel, exerting a limp wristed push
>"But I remember when I could carry you on my back"
>The para peers through his peepers at the top of a gnoll in the park
>"You still can, mia"
>"Don't be absurd, ben. We both know that's not true."
>”Want to bet?”
>With a huff, the smaller para turns the his handicap counterpart towards the hill
>Pushing for all he’s worth, he steadily starts her up the hill
>”Shit, Ben, I don’t know about this”
>But she’s already helping him, hands firm on her wheels as she forces herself up the hill
>With little warning, Ben hops onto the back of the wheelchair
>Mia hardly has time to brace herself
>But she could never forget the allure of speed
>The rock and cradle of momentum
>Like a second nature she rides the curves of the hill to the very bottom, keeping Ben safe from any potential tumbles
>The wind
>She can hardly hear herself think for once
>Then laughter as the dizzy blue nerd stumbles from his perch on the rear of the chair
>Before they both spill onto the green canopy
>”Ben”
>”Yes?”
>”I think I know what I want for my birthday”
>”Oh… well, it’s a bit late for any shopping, I al-”
>”I want you to call my mom - make up some reason why we could make it”
>”Why?”

>”Because we’re going to do that again”
>And he reflexively smiles, seeing his girlfriend lively for the first time in months
>As the two work themselves up the hill, they’d never admit it to each other, but they both recall the first time they worked Mia’s project car into a rolling start
>Stranded in a hilly suburb way past each other’s curfew
>Constructively conspiring in mutual growth, each holding their piece so the other might work undisturbed, but together
>And in the roar of the wind of the second decent, Mia whispers, so quiet that even she can’t quite hear it
>”I love you, Ben”
