Coaxed into snafu. I was both real AND the Cynthia poster.

>Life relaxed right back to normal. Me tailing along with the band proper and Nick her usual cocky self. Almost as if the last couple of days didn't exist at all.
>I stretch out on this little backstage couch as they do their set, a usual place they're playing at the moment. I consider stepping in the front to catch some energy and maybe a beer but tonight's the promised date and I'd rather not be sloshed before it even starts.
>I play on my phone a bit, putting finishing touches on the actual date proper while Nick earns her keep. I hear the place start to quiet, no more party rocking and check the time. Set should have just ended. I perk up and sure enough hear the Swamp Babies push into the room, tired and happy.
>Nick pulls me into a quick hug as the band does their cooldown routine of watering and standing in front of the fans back here. I stand near Nick as she fans her sweater, sweat soaking it.
>"Go well?"
>"Always does." I get a smirk back.
>"Let's swing by my place for a change before we go out. Like hell I'm stewing in this piece of crap." Nick keeps pumping her sweater to cycle air.
>"You two going somewhere?" Trent perks up. I notice Curtis' eyes on us as well. I pause in consideration but it's right out the window as Nick speaks for the both of us.
>"Yeah he's taking me out on an actual date somewhere. What'd you say the place was?"
>"...Outback Roadhouse." Trent and Curtis both perk.
>"Wait, seriously? You two are a couple?" I nod, Nick still facing away and near her designated desk fan.
>"Damnit only a few months off." I blink at Trent's sudden outburst as he starts digging into his pocket. Nick has turned her head inquisitively as well.
>Curtis speaks, a rarity. "We were taking bets on how long it would take before you two realized you're perfect for each other." He clears his throat and takes another sip of water.

>Nick and I share a sigh as Trent pays out. They really think that? Curtis quickly pockets his bill and gives a thumbs up as Trent sighs.
>"You've been best friends pretty much since you met, cmon." He folds his arms and huffs at us. I can't say he's wrong. I get a hip-check as Nick speaks.
>"Ignore the gallery." I shrug and return to the couch as the band finally cools, Trent and Curtis' going their own way as Nick and I end up at her place.
>I bum around in her living room as she moves to shower and change, more phone time for me. I open it to see a couple of messages, one from both Trent and Curtis. Both mildly apologetic but assuring me they think the best. Almost sweet if they weren't making a game out of it. I hear the door open finally and pocket my phone.
>I look up and am stunned. Nick didn't just change clothes. She's standing in cloth dress, tan and modest. Form fitting and fashionable. She's pulled her hair up as well and I'm rather certain she's wearing some heavier makeup. She smiles nervously and does a little pirouette.
>"You like?" I nod like a bobblehead. I'm suddenly feeling extremely underdressed as she heads out first.
>"You didn't have to go this far." I feel a bit of shame as we drive to the restaurant."
>"Relax, I thought I'd try this. Not sure how I feel about it yet." I can see from the way her face is gently smiling she's a fan. I stare straight ahead as we pull into the little parking lot.
>The wait is short, the place has a pretty decent turnover rate and we're seated. It's a bit loud but the atmosphere is nice.
>As I pull up the menu I hear her speak. "You still looking for a job?"
>I sigh. "Yeah. It's a struggle."
>"You know if you can't make rent you can always come crash at my place." She's offered this before.
>I set the menu down to find her looking at me expectantly. "I appreciate it Nick but I can't just bum off you like that." I scowl a bit. Pathetic that I barely scrape by as is.

>"Well it's a bit different now. Besides if you cook and clean like you did before I have no qualms whatsoever."
>"Different?" I prod at her logic.
>"We're a couple. It's called "living together" and not "couch surfing" when you're dating." She smirks. I find myself at a loss for words as she picks up her own menu. I struggle to grasp my emotions at the moment and decide to just put a pin in it. No need to dwell.
>I pick out a dish and not a moment too soon as a waitress swings by to take our order. I pick a steak while Nick goes for a jumbo burger.
>We make small talk about the gig and the minor intricacies of it before we wrap back around to discussing us.
>"This is pretty nice. A bit louder than I expected but still." I watch and she comfortably looks about the place.
>I watch her as she slowly returns her gaze to me.
>"We should do this more." I nod in agreement.
>Food arrives and we dig in. Conversation dies as the meal is too important to let simmer for even a moment longer. I manage to get mine down and look over to see Nick peering down.
>"You good?"
>"Oh. Sorry." Her voice is a bit down.
>"Just thinking."
>"About?" I prod a bit at her strange turn of mood.
>She breathes a bit. "Well just a bit upset that it's taken me this long to do this. Feels like I'm late." I go ahead and fire some wit at her.
>"Let's say you were just waiting for me. Sorry I took so long." I smile as I cheesily lay in a bit.
>It works rather well as Nick smiles warmly. "Thanks."
>The dinner date comes to an end. Great but a strain on the already thin wallet. I really got to find something. I'm ripped from my thoughts as I get a hand grasped in mine as we step outside.
>"Hey I'm not quite ready to go yet. Wanna just walk around?" Her impulsiveness on display.
>"Sure." We end up just taking a walk to down a small path nearby, the streets turning off into suburbia within a few blocks. As we quietly meander down a small neighborhood path I hear Nick speak up.

>"I really really liked that." I notice she's putting on the most sincerity she can. Think it's a struggle for her.
>"I know I don't say it often but I really enjoy being around you. Not just as a dating sense but as a friend too." Nick stops as she continues speaking.
>"I-...I'm sorry for the way I am. I know this is weird for me." I pull in closer to her and speak, voice lower.
>"It's okay. Maybe you can't be snarky and perfect Nick all the time. God knows I can barely be normal functioning Anon for a few hours at a time." I try to relate and soothe her.
>She looks down and gains a bit of courage before speaking again.
>"Promise not to laugh." I blink at her as she looks up to me, blushing.
>"Huh? Nick what could you po-"
>"Just promise."
>I nod. "I won't."
>"Next time I don't want to go out. I just want to stay in and cuddle up watching old cartoons. Please." Her voice is cautious and gentle. Almost afraid.
>"Honestly, Nick, I'd love that." I am pulled in and grasped roughly. We hold the position before a slight breeze reminds us of where exactly we are.
>The walk back to the car is quick and painless. As we settle in I get another glance at Nick. She's wearing that gentle smile again, relaxed and calm. It warms me to see. She starts the car and speaks as she turns her head.
>"Did you like the dress?" I shrug at her.
>"I was pretty impressed, honestly. Never seen you really clean up like that." I notice another hint of blush as she quickly taps me on the shoulder.
>"A yes was enough." I chuckle as we drive away.

Fin.

Guess we're doing back 2 back Nick requests. Sure, quick water break first.
