Last ditch effort of desperation. Finds the connection through searching and tells herself it won't ever come into play. Lo and behold she only pushes Greene further away with each step. Finally pushing passed the barrier as she feels she's mere days away from Greene offing himself or something along those lines.

You're still glossing over the desperation aspect of it. Imagine Lucy does any and everything she can. Helps try to set him up for dates, helps him improve himself, helps him meet people, work out, speak better, literally any and everything but every single thing just makes him angrier and worse each time. Nothing works. She tries everything. Time after time he just becomes colder and more distant. She starts to notice he's not eating, he's lost all interest in anything that's not sleeping. He's started talking about giving his stuff away.
She's terrified and makes an irrational decision because it's all she has left. It's this or he's dead. Child buried.
