>I flip my patient log and read the next name. Olivia Halford, a baryonyx suffering from lower leg partial paralysis or Bary Syndrome. My area of study. I check her logs and note she's had it since childhood, one of the longer cases. Hopefully this new treatment works for her, too. I tuck the clipboard under my arm and head over to the room she's currently waiting in.
>As I open the door I spy her. I'm taken aback a second as I meet her icy gray eyes. I recover quickly as I walk in, her face strewn into a quiet hopeful glance.
>"Good afternoon Ms. Halford." I walk over to the end of the bed she's on, and pull my clipboard out again, flipping to her sheet. It notes she's an artist, wonder if I've seen her pieces anywhere.
>"Dr. Aaron." she says, nodding at me.
>"So have you been doing the exercises we recommended?"
>"Yes I have."
>"Good, means we can start the trials today, please lay down." I gesture for her to do so
>As she lays back a tingle in the back of my head wants me to look but if I want to keep my medical license I won't. A peek wouldn't hurt. I glance over her frame. Just the right plumpness.
>I blink and avert my eyes before she can look up to me. I walk aside and retrieve the key from my pocket, opening the case to the stimulation device.
>I remove the two pieces, unlocking their clasps and setting the top half down near her head, straightening the wires out.
>"Alright Ms. Halford, this as a nerve stimulation device. I'm going to hook it up to both your neck and legs. You'll feel a prick as it latches on." I take out a small alcohol swab, lifting her gown slightly to get at her knees and cleaning the area. I latch the two stimulators on and click them into place, their needle digging in slightly. She doesn't react.
>I glance up to her to check how we're doing and her gaze has changed from eager apprehensiveness to a firm courage. Goodness she's pretty.

>I move to the other leg and repeat the process, now on to the neck, cleaning and attaching. As I've hooked the jade gator up I head over to the base of the machine and set the proper settings and voltage, double checking my clipboard as I go.
>"What's it gonna feel like?" her voice rasps out, slightly constrained from the device around her neck.
>"A tingle through your spine." I relay the description my other patients have given.
>As everything it's triple checked and set I flip the switch, the device humming to life and a small eep coming from Olivia.
>I grasp the third piece of the device, the manual probe, and step over to my patient, who's still putting up a courageous look. I internally chuckle at the gasp she let out as I maneuver down to her feet.
>"Alright, now please follow my instructions. Please try and twist your knee." I take my place and plant the probe at the bottom of her foot.
>"Okay." I get a response as her leg lifts.
>No dice. I trace the probe up along her Achilles tendon. As I do so I note a twitch.
>"Again."
>She does and I press harder, her leg flexes. I dig around to find the right spot before we hit success, her let turns.
>"Now back." it relaxes and I mark a note on a small diagram on my clipboard. I check in on my patient's face. Both her hands are clasped on her snoot, tears streaming down her face. A warm smile comes over me. Fourth time now.
>"Okay now try to curl your toes."
>She nods at me and I return my probe to the bottom of her foot, tracing it around the ankle before finding my spot, causing her toes to splay and move.
>We repeat the song and dance on both feet, a few hours now passed. My favorite part coming up now.
>"Alright Ms. Halford we've done quite well here." I say to her, looking into her smile so wide it threatens to rip her face in half.

>"Thank you so much..." she says as I unclamp the device. I return everything to where it came from and have Olivia swing her legs over the side of medical chair. A huge smirk crosses my face as I prepare.
>"Alright now give me your hands please." I reach to her. She blushes and does so.
>As I grab her hands and steady them in mine I note how smooth and cool her scales are. Aquatics are often cooler than the rest of us.
>"Alright, now try to stand for me. If you fall I'll be here for you." I look into her eyes as her face goes cherry red. Eyes swelling up into great dish platters of silver, tears forming again. A nod as she does so, slowly sliding off the chair and into a standing position, leaning into my as our hands are clasped.
>Her mouth hangs open as she stands, the first time in over 15 years according to my documents. I slowly let my hands slip out of her grasp, letting her stand completely unhelped.
>I watch her uneasily sway but stay standing.
>"It... it tingles. I can feel them. I-I" as she says this the strength starts to leave her body, I step forward to have her sit again before she collapses.
>My soul soaring from another successful first session I start the ending processes. Before I can pull back she pulls me into a deep hug. I pat her back several times, accepting the compassion.
>I pull away to finally speak to her but find I can't quite get all the way away, her arms refusing to let me get very far away. Before I can even speak to her I find her snout bumped into mine. A kiss.
>She reels back "Oh god fuck I'm sorry I just-"
>"It's alright, Ms. Halford." I say with the best of my professionalism on display. Internally I wish pretty well for her to do so again. It gets the better of me and sneaks out through my mouth.
>"It was quite nice." Manages to find itself spoken before I can stop it from doing so.
>I clear my throat at a vain attempt at saving face and quickly move on, not looking at her and instead focusing on the clipboard.

>"You'll need to come in a few more times but as long as you keep up the exercises and go easy we think within three months you can start up a physical therapy program. Within six you'll be walking with a cane, a year and you'll be able to run." I finish eyeing my clipboard and note the absolute elation the gator woman is showing. Whether at my first or second comment I don't hazard a guess.
>"You're... serious?"
>I consider which statement she's asking about but I slay both with one phrase "Of course."
>We stand in awkward silence a moment as she parses this.
>I take out a small sheet of paper detailing the exercises and medication she'll need, noting down any addendums on the sheet before handing it to her. Her eyes look up to me curiously, their silver hue reflecting the light of the fluorescent bulbs lining the ceiling.
>"Can I borrow your pen for a moment?" she asks and I hand it to her, curious as to what she's doing.
>She scrawls on a small corner of the sheet before tearing it off and handing it to me. It's a phone number.
>"If... if you wanted to go out somewhere or whatever just uh... text that number. It's mine." she says fidgeting and looking away.
>"...I will." I say, tucking it into my pant pocket. A bit suspect the way this relationship is starting but I can't complain, she's very much my type.
>As I finish up marking down what I've done and any extraneous notes I glance up to see she's already flexing her foot on her own, rolling her ankle slightly and marveling at it's motion. I smile again, her joy infectious.
>I finally say my farewells and step out into the hallway. I can't wait to see her again.
