Smoke Break

Mon Sep 14 22:42:01 2020

This is an animation project that we just completed for Asher =)

I'm really excited about this since it's the first joint project between myself, Kish, and Fox. The process was a little slow as we were working with new software and a new workflow, but we're starting to get the process down, and have some great things in the works!

Thank you all for your support! Without it, we wouldn't have been able to build the studio up like we have been ^.^

Enjoy!

Demon Asher

Sun Aug 23 21:40:58 2020

A few days ago, I started working on a material for the smoke in Asher's scene.

The smoke simulation contains a flame channel, which we won't be using for the final rendering, but I thought it would be fun to play around with by creating a fire material and using it as a light source. As an unexpected bonus, his eyes rendered pure red due to an issue with the eye material, which just completed the effect XD

So, here's Demon Asher. Enjoy!

Asher Smoke Simulation

Fri Aug 7 00:40:49 2020

Now that the character animation is set up, Fox has started on the cigarette smoke simulation. He just started on it tonight, but damn, it's looking really good already! I can't wait to see how it looks finished and rendered! ^.^

Patreon Sales Tax Updates and More

Thu Jun 25 20:25:38 2020

Patreon is instituting a sales tax system, and our basic approach to creation has changed since the launch of this page. In order to make things easier on everyone, as well as try and keep you all from paying more than you really want to, we are going to go through and make some sweeping changes to the way we structure this Patreon community.

We want to provide everyone with the most value for their contributions, so we will be putting some serious thought into what we can offer under our current model of operation, and taking feedback from you all going forward.

Recently, the three of us have teamed up to form the start of a small studio that lays the groundwork for even bigger, better projects to come. This is a pretty exciting time for us, and we definitely thank all of you for helping to keep us going!

Streams this week

Sat Apr 18 19:30:05 2020

Hi everyone!

First of all, thank you all so much for your continued support. Things have been quite hectic all over, so I hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.

This week, Kish and I are going to try something a little different than usual. In the past, we've done streams once per week on Saturdays, but we feel like that might be a little too exclusive. We are going to try out more frequent, shorter stream times which could hopefully let more people catch us live and help keep projects flowing a little more smoothly.

If any of you have any suggestions for possible streaming schedule ideas, programming and ideas that could be fun to do on stream, leave a comment below! (do keep in mind though that I do work a normal day job 7am-3:30pm every Monday-Friday so time is a little precious)

Thanks again,

Taurin

Transition to Maya (learning the fur system)

Sat Feb 29 20:02:44 2020

Hey guys!

I'm in the process of moving my animation and rendering workflow from 3DS Max to Maya, and thought you'd like to see some of my progress working with Maya's fur system =)

(Ignore the tail. I did some work on that, but lost my progress to a software glitch that was probably user error.)

Overall, I'm pretty happy with my results so far, but there's definitely a learning curve with it and some quirks I need to get used to. Aside from the tail, the face still needs work. Especially around the mouth, nose, and eyes. I should be able to clean that up once I'm more experienced with the tool <=)

I'm actually using the same GPU-based rendering engine that I was in 3DS Max, and was happy to see that the render times and quality in Maya are just as good. The real test will come when I go to animate the character and see how well the fur moves.

Kish has also been learning the software, and we're planning on working together for upcoming projects! Once we're both up to speed with it, having his help should really speed up my production schedule =)

Art/Animation stream 2/8/2020

Sat Feb 8 21:27:14 2020

Hey guys!

The weekly art/animation stream will be getting started at 5PM Eastern time. I'll be doing some work on Asher's character model for the first hour before moving on to some commission pieces, and finishing up the stream working on a digital painting for an upcoming animation project.

There will be a drawing at around 7PM for a free sketch (open to all viewers), and Patrons are invited to join me in the Discord server to hang out after the stream ends =)

See you there!

Hit the Showers (public release)

Mon Feb 3 03:46:06 2020

Hit the Showers is now live!

Kish and Taurin enjoy a steamy encounter in the Alphafox Resorts changing room!

Even though it took a lot longer to finish than expected, I’m really happy with how this one turned out. Thanks to engagement and feedback from viewers, Hit the Showers makes heavy use of motion capture, dialogue, cloth and fluid simulations, as well as rendering improvements.

Special thanks to Kish and Asher for doing the audio engineering, and to Asher for providing the music track. All sound effects were recorded by them specifically for this animation. Meticulous editing went into producing the soundscape. During the audio phase, Asher spent a lot of time producing the soundtrack Aquatic Endeavor to make it flow with the action on screen as well as the mood.

Many thanks to all of my supporters on Patreon, who really have made this and my other projects possible.

Enjoy!

Hit the Showers

Sun Jan 26 08:15:13 2020

It's done! Thank you SO MUCH Kish and Asher for providing the audio to bring this production to life.

It took longer than expected to get this released but, thanks to you Patrons, there's finally a new Taurin Fox feature animation out there, with a lot more exciting stuff in the works!

I would normally go into an extensive description about how we used motion capture, dialogue, cloth simulation, fluid simulation, and other cool stuff to make this, but seeing as it's now after 3AM here right now and I'm about to pass out, I'll just say that I hope you all enjoy this new piece ^.^

Thank you all SO much for your support!

Art/Animation stream today!

Sat Jan 25 21:30:22 2020

Hey guys! Sorry for the lack of posts. Kish and I have a lot going on for upcoming projects, but not much that's in a sharable state ATM. We've been developing a new workflow, learning new software, etc... The Patreon WILL be a lot more active soon, once we get things ironed out.

BTW, Hit the Showers in in the final mastering process, and should be released in the next couple of days for those with early access ;)

I'll be streaming today starting at 6PM Eastern time on Picarto. For those who haven't seen it yet, we're using a new format where a portion of it is devoted to animation work, another portion to commissions, and another portion to original art. It's been working out really well so far, so check it out if you haven't yet ^.^

Upcoming Format Change For 2020

Thu Jan 2 01:12:13 2020

Thanks guys for coming tonight! For those of you who couldn't be there during tonight's animation stream, we have a few announcements to make!

The animation streams haven't been very popular since launch, so we've decided to change some stuff up and focus on what you guys wanna see. Going forward, the Animation streams will take place once per week, and will no longer be Patreon exclusive.

The 1$ Tier's award of stream invites will be replaced with after-stream wrapup voice chats in the Patreon Voice channel with Kish and I, so you still have something to look forward to!

We are also going to be working on more general audience-friendly stuff for the Taurin Fox Youtube channel, so check that out if you haven't.

The Art Streams will be taking place at the same time on Saturdays at 6pm Eastern US Time, but will be more focused on original artwork and sketches for the viewers, as well as storyboarding out and planning ideas for upcoming animations!

This is an exciting opportunity for us, and we hope you all enjoy the ride!

Updates

Sat Dec 7 20:43:24 2019

Hey guys!
Sorry about the lack of posts recently. I've been dealing with some seasonal depression, plus increased demands from my day job has kind of slowed me down a bit. I've also been learning and working with other software, trying to optimize my workflow. That should result in me increasing my productivity a lot going forward, but the initial learning curve is slowing me down for now. But not to worry, things are turning around, and I've got some cool stuff in the works!
Rendering is finished for Hit the Showers! I had to make some edits to fix some rendering issues, but now all that's left is the sound. Kish and Asher will be working their audio magic on it tomorrow, and that's on track for release this month =)
My commission projects are coming along well, but slower than expected. As a result, I probably won't be taking new commissions until after I've completed my queue. This will let me focus on a new feature project. Speaking of which, Kish and I have been discussing a non-yiffy project we'd like to do. More on that later if we decide to move forward on it ;) No Horseplay is still in the works as well!
As always, thank you all for your support! This wouldn't be possible without my Patrons =)

Hit the Showers - Cumshot Fixed!

Sun Oct 6 22:23:00 2019

While rendering out Hit the Showers, I found that I really didn't like how Kish's cumshot was looking. The fluid just wasn't quite sticking to Kish's body in a natural way, and I've been spending the last couple weeks trying to nail down the issue.

In the end, it seems like the issue was the fluid solver I was using. For some reason, it was just failing to move the particles with the mesh on frames where the mesh moves away from the particle positions.

After switching to a different solver, and tweaking some settings, I was able to get some amazing results! This video shows the final, fixed simulation. In particular, note how I was FINALLY able to get the particles to cling to the character realistically. This is something I've been trying to achieve for a long time, but haven't been able to in my previous videos. Even after Kish bends over, stands up, and walks around a bit, the particles cling to him like the gooey spooge they're supposed to be x3

This took about 20 hours to simulate, which might sound like a lot, but it's really not compared to other simulations that have taken multiple days to complete.

Enjoy!

Waterfall Simulation Fix

Thu Sep 26 02:24:57 2019

Thanks to input from my Patrons, as well as consulting with a professional fluid simulation expert, I came to the conclusion that my previous simulation didn't quite look right because the scene scale was wrong.

This is one of the challenges with any sort of physics simulation, but fluid simulations in particular. A particle's behavior is strongly dependent on the distance it's traveling. For example, the way water moves as it's filling up a sink is vastly different from a tidal wave sweeping over several miles of land.

In this case, my geometry scale was too large, causing the water to appear to move in slow motion, or as though it was unnaturally viscous, like a gel. I adjusted those scales, and came up with this new simulation, which looks a lot more natural.

Enjoy! =)

Phastor Short Update

Thu Sep 26 02:04:40 2019

Phastor's short animation is nearly ready for final render. I've just got some geometry clipping issues with the wings that I still need to resolve.

The waterfall scene itself has been upgraded a bit since my last post. I spent a lot of time on the texturing, making the stone surface more realistic. I also re-did the water simulation, which will be shown off in a follow up post =)

Enjoy!

Asher Collar

Thu Sep 26 01:57:31 2019

In addition to adding his eyes, teeth and tongue since the last update, I spent some time on tonight's stream modeling the collar for Asher's character.

I'm extremely happy with how Ornatrix handles fur collision. With my previous fur system, keeping the fur from penetrating through clothing was a huge challenge. I actually had to fake it with Fox in the Stable by rendering two versions of the scenes where Taurin was wearing shorts. One with the fur and one without, and then use masking in After Effects to erase the fur that was poking through. Ornatrix does a very good job of handling it on its own however, as you can see from these renders. I plan to use cloth simulation to make the collar move naturally on the character as well.

Enjoy!

Looking More Like Asher

Wed Sep 18 20:45:42 2019

During Saturday's animation stream, I refined Asher's fur and muzzle shape and added his hair. After the stream, Kish helped me tweak the hair a bit to make it look more realistic. It's definitely looking more like his character now, and will look even better once I get his eyes, teeth, and tongue made.

Enjoy!

Waterfall Progress

Wed Sep 18 20:34:23 2019

I've made a LOT of progress on this scene since my last update! I brought the sculpted rock face into 3DS, got some nice materials applied, added the fluid simulation for the waterfall, and used Ornatrix (my fur tool) to add grass and moss to it.

This is the environment I'll be using for some upcoming projects with Phastor's character!

I still have a bit of work to do on it. I want to add some additional foliage and other foreground elements, as well as some mist, and possibly some tweaks to the simulation to improve the realism.

Enjoy! =)

Waterfall Background - Work in Progress

Thu Sep 12 01:49:08 2019

I started on this waterfall environment for Phastor's project during Saturday's animation stream. It still has a ways to go, but I'm planning on adding in a lot more detail, and actually using fluid simulation for the water!

Waterfall01.png

Asher Progress

Thu Sep 12 01:31:51 2019

I made progress on Asher's character during Saturday's animation stream. Most significantly, I had a great deal of success in trying out something new with the fur!

When I sculpt the details into a character model in Zbrush, I use a normals map to transfer that extremely dense polygon detail to a relatively low polygon mesh for animation. The problem is that the normals map only effects the shading on the low poly object, so that detail is lost on the fur, which follows the contours of that low poly object.

Since Asher's character has a well defined muscle tone, I tried to find a way to transfer the sculpted details to the fur as well. I did this by creating a cavity map of the high poly sculpt, and then using it to control the length of the fur. The results were even better than I expected =)

Enjoy!

Hit the Showers Update

Sat Sep 7 02:01:21 2019

Hey folks! I apologize for the lack of posts lately. I thought I'd throw this out here and give everyone an update on what's going on.

The rendering for my newest production piece, "Hit the Showers", is coming along very well, but as expected, it's taking a long time to render. This will be my second-longest video, just behind Fox in the Stable, and is an order of magnitude more complex to render. The complexity is because I'm striving for a level of realism that I haven't been able to achieve before.

Since my computer is tied up most of the time rendering this, I haven't been able to devote as much time as I'd like to deliver other Patreon-exclusive content while that rendering process is going on. So at the same time, I'd like to thank you all for your support, which has made projects like this possible in the first place. But I also want to ask for your patience as I try to find more ways to reward you for being my patrons.

One thing I'm looking into is a series of 3D modeling and animation tutorials focused on furry characters. If any of you have other ideas, please feel free to let me know =)

Once again, thank you all <3

Phastor Viewport Animation Draft

Sat Sep 7 01:21:04 2019

Here's a viewport preview of the animation I'm working on for Phastor. It shows off his character striking a sexy pose before censoring himself. That part is sort of an inside joke, as this fluff dragon keeps insisting he's not lewd, despite evidence to the contrary x3

The animation still needs some tweaking. I'll be refining some of the movements, and using cloth dynamics to make the wings move more naturally.

During tomorrow's animation stream, I'll be working on the environment for this piece. A forested waterfall scene, which will be challenging, but fun to pull off. It'll also be used in a follow-up animation with his character that will definitely NOT be not-lewd. ;)

Enjoy!

Phastor Test Renders

Sat Sep 7 01:04:05 2019

During Wednesday's stream, I got a lot done on Phastor's animation project! I'll be replacing the background with something more suitable, but here are a few test renders showing off his character =) Also note that I'll be using cloth simulation on the wing membranes for the final version, so the wings will look much more natural than they appear here.

Enjoy!

For Science

Fri Aug 23 01:02:44 2019

Being the scientist that I am (I'm really not), I decided to try an experiment. I wanted to play a game tonight, but I didn't want to stop my rendering on Hit the Showers (which is about 50% complete at this point), so I decided to see if I could keep one of my GPUs on the rendering job while I used the other for gaming.

It seems to have worked! The rendering time doubled, as was expected since I pulled one of the GPUs off the job, but the rendering job is still chugging along while I play my game ^.^ (Doom 2016 BTW). The only issue I noticed was that I get a CPU usage spike between rendering frames as 3DS recalculates the millions of fur strands it needs to pass to the rendering GPU, which causes lag in the game while that's being calculated.

This won't really effect my rendering schedule, since the current sequence is on track to complete before I wake up tomorrow, and I have to set the next one up at that point anyways, but I thought this would be cool to share since I didn't expect my computer to be able to effectively split resources in this way <=)

Stream Schedule Change

Tue Aug 20 20:33:41 2019

Hey guys! I just wanted to announce that the mid-week animation streams are moving from Tuesdays to Wednesdays. Originally, I went with Tuesdays because of how it aligned with my regular job, but that schedule has changed, and Wednesdays seem to be the better choice for both me and Kish <=) So I'll see you guys on the stream tomorrow!

Back to Basics

Mon Aug 19 02:08:08 2019

I've just started work on my 3rd commission project (this one for Asher, of his anthro fox character), and I'm starting to find areas where my workflow can definitely use improvement.

I started on his model during Saturday's stream, but I'm taking things a little slower than usual, trying to improve on my topology (laying out the geometry as cleanly and efficiently as possible). I'm also looking to build reusable assets so that I don't need to repeat the same basic work on each new character I create, while still being able to make each new character unique.

So, I went back to basics on this one and studied how other artists approached character modeling. I found some stuff I liked and tried to incorporate them into this model. At the moment, this guy isn't Asher yet, but rather my best attempt at modeling an efficient and clean generic canine character. I'm really happy with how he's coming out, and I think what I learned will definitely help me going forward!

I'm not implying there's anything wrong with my previous models BTW. Favnir and Phastor's characters have provided a great learning experience, and are without a doubt some of my best modeling work. The dragon wings were certainly a fun challenge for me XD

And now an update on Hit the Showers! The rendering is about at the halfway point. I've been rendering continuously for a few weeks now, and it has a few weeks more to go. The second GPU is making a huge difference, along with some optimization techniques that I've been discovering along the way. So yea, that project is proceeding along very well =)

Enjoy!

Sat Aug 17 15:39:21 2019

The stream will be starting today at Noon Eastern time! I'm planning on starting on Asher's character model =)

See you there!

Phastor Facial Expressions

Thu Aug 15 01:17:22 2019

On tonight's stream, I got Phastor's facial rigging set up, so here he is with a few different facial expressions. I still have a bit of work to do before he's fully animation-ready, but it's getting close! ^.^

Enjoy!

Phastor Progress!

Sun Aug 11 21:33:59 2019

An obstacle I was facing on my past few animation streams was trying to get Phastor's fur rendering in an acceptable period of time. But the problem wasn't the rendering engine itself. The issue was that it was taking some 6 to 8 minutes to calculate the fur distribution before it could even start rendering.

I think I finally resolved that issue, and as you can see, this test render of him fully furred (including the mane) and posed took less than a minute =)

The fur and rigging still need a little work, but they're at least 75% there. I'll also be using cloth simulation for the wing membranes, like I did with Favnir's dragon, which isn't in place yet (this is why I'm getting that weird square-shaped indent on the bottom of the wings).

I used the mocap footage from Hit the Showers to get some quick test poses, and I think he's starting to look really good!

Enjoy ^.^

No Stream Tonight

Tue Aug 6 20:39:17 2019

Hey guys! I decided to postpone the animation stream. We have company over, and I'm feeling pretty wiped out today after work. I will be working off-stream some more on Phastor's character, as well as the No Horseplay scene, and I might decide to do a stream later this week if I can get some of the issues resolved with Phastor's model =)

Alphafox Resorts

Mon Aug 5 05:05:30 2019

Construction is mostly complete on my new line of resort-themed environments x3 This started out as a single-use scene for my upcoming animation No Horseplay, but I realized it could be used as a setting for multiple projects.

I already created the internal environment of the changing room, which I used for Dragon Rider, as well as Hit the Showers, which is currently in the final render phase. I'm also planning to add a hot tub to the scene as well as a fully furnished hotel room that I can offer as environments for animation commissions =)

So yea, some fun stuff will be happening here. Stay tuned ^.^

No Horseplay is Underway!

Mon Aug 5 04:26:54 2019

I actually started on the environment for No Horseplay in 2012. I started work on it shortly after Fox in the Stable, but it ended up mostly sitting in an unfinished state since then due to the lack of time and resources I had to spend on my animation projects until recently.

Well, the scene has been revived, and I spent yesterday's stream converting the materials and lighting over to Redshift. I continued refining things today, converting the rest of the materials, adding the caustics, and optimizing the render settings. And holy shit, Redshift does an AMAZING job rendering this!

These renderings would have taken about 30 - 40 minutes on my previous setup, but using Redshift with the two RTX 2080 Ti cards, my average rendering time is only about 2 minutes per frame. That's insane XD I'm sure that will increase considerably once I start adding furred characters into the scene, but I'm confident that the final render times will at least be manageable.

More details will come soon, but I have some big plans for this scene!

Enjoy!

Back up to 2 GPUs!

Wed Jul 31 23:55:45 2019

I finally seem to have a reliable power supply! After the first one exploded, I received a replacement of the same model on Monday (Rosewill Photon 1200). I installed it, but just like the previous one as soon as I started rendering, my computer shut itself off with an "anti-surge" warning (even with just a single card powered). Instead of giving THAT one a chance to explode, I just asked for a refund and went with a different brand entirely.

I went with an EVGA Supernova 1000 G+. So far, it's working perfectly! No surge warnings, and both GPUs are rendering just fine =) I'll be monitoring the temperatures closely over the next couple days though, as that's my only remaining concern. The GPUs do a good job of keeping themselves cool, but they pump a LOT of heat into the rest of the case, which could damage other components.

Phastor Fur Render

Sat Jul 27 20:00:58 2019

I got the majority of the work on Phastor's fur done during today's animation stream, and got the materials looking pretty good (not quite perfect yet). I was especially happy with how his mane came out ^.^

Enjoy!

Today's Progress

Sat Jul 27 19:55:11 2019

Thankfully, my recent computer shenanigans didn't result in a loss of productivity =) I'm back down to a single GPU until I get the new power supply in (should be Monday), but everything else is still working, and I've been continuing to render out Hit the Showers, as well as make progress on Phastor's character during today's animation stream!

I got Phastor's naughty bits modeled, and the majority of his fur done. I'll be back with another stream on Tuesday =)

Phastor_Fur_VP.png

So, my power supply exploded...

Fri Jul 26 00:02:15 2019

Yea... Like the title says, my new power supply lasted less than a day XD I randomly came into the room to check on my render progress, and found my computer powered off. I pressed the power button and was greeted with a loud POP! and a bright flash coming out of the PSU.

Thankfully, the rest of my system doesn't appear to be damaged. I reinstalled my old power supply, and everything seems to be working fine, sans the 2nd GPU, which I'm unable to power ATM. So it looks like I'm back down to my previous rendering power until the new PSU arrives in a couple of days XD

Rendering Power!

Wed Jul 24 22:59:55 2019

My new power supply arrived today and, after some troubleshooting, the new GPU is now up and running! I was expecting to see about an 80% increase in rendering speed (not quite double since there are CPU and data transfer operations that can't be sped up by the GPU), and it looks like I actually underestimated a bit. The scene I was using as a benchmark was taking around 17 minutes per frame to render, and that was cut down to about 9 minutes with both GPUs on the job =)

There were (of course) some unexpected complications. The first was that when I started rendering, the sudden power output triggered my motherboard's anti-surge protection and shut the PC down. Updating the BIOS didn't resolve that, so I ended up just disabling the feature.

The second complication I ran into is that my PC is now drawing more power than my UPS can provide. I just bought the UPS about a week ago, and was excited to finally have it on battery backup again, but it looks like it's off battery backup until I can get a bigger one LOL

Money Shot

Wed Jul 24 22:45:26 2019

This is the public release of Favnir's animation project =) This is my first time animating a scaled OR winged character, but I think he came out quite well ^.^

Fav provided his own voice for his dragon character, which Kish worked his audio magic on, and the roar at the end is just epic!

Enjoy!

More Hardware On The Way

Tue Jul 23 21:20:56 2019

So, my second RTX 2080 Ti was delivered today (yay!) but, as expected, my current power supply wasn't up to the task. So I've got a new PSU ordered and on the way. I went with a highly recommend 1200 Watt option that should more than meet my needs ^.^ In fact, it looks like this thing will support up to 4 of these GPUs if I continue to add on to my current rig, although I will need a new motherboard if that's the direction I take.

Unfortunately this means that it'll be a few more days before I can see the benefits of the new GPU, but at least it wasn't unexpected <=)

Phastor Sculpted and Painted

Sat Jul 20 19:44:44 2019

I just wrapped up today's stream after finishing up the painting and sculpting of Phastor's character in Zbrush. In an effort to provide more content to all of my Patrons, I'll be including screen captures of my workspace like this in the $1 tier, along with more frequent announcements about my progress =) Test renders and animation previews will still be reserved for the higher tiers.

I apologize if today's animation stream seemed to end abruptly. Apparently my mic cut out at some point, and I didn't notice until after the stream, so no one got to hear me wrapping things up and thanking my viewers for their support <=)

I still need to add Phastor's naughty bits, and he'll look WAY different once the fur is added x3

Enjoy!

Phastor_Painted.png

Just ordered another GPU!

Sat Jul 20 15:15:20 2019

I just placed my order for a second RTX 2080 Ti card x3 Assuming the rest of my hardware is compatible (I'm only really concerned about the power supply and heat dissipation), this should boost my rendering speed significantly! Thank you SO much to my Patrons! Without your support, I wouldn't be able to make these kinds of investments in my animation process =)

Also a reminder, ALL of my Patrons are invited to attend the animation streams. I usually do these twice per week, and it's the primary reward for the $1 tier. I'm also considering additional rewards for the $1 tier so that everyone can get something, even if you're not able to attend the streams <=)

Optimizing the Render

Fri Jul 19 21:46:23 2019

Hey guys! Due to the long time periods involved in the work that I do for my animations (plus the fact that I'm still working a full time job), I'm not able to post content updates as regularly as I'd like. So, to help supplement that, I'm going to try to make regular progress updates like this to share what I'm up to with the community ^.^

I've been struggling a bit with render times for Hit the Showers. Even after switching to a GPU based engine and investing in an RTX 2080 Ti, my PC was spending upwards of 25 to 45 minutes per frame, putting the project completion date some 4 to 6 months into the future. The problem is that internal scenes with small light sources and fur produce a LOT of noise in the render unless I really crank up the sample count, which increases rendering time proportionately.

Well, I think I had a breakthrough the other night, when I managed to knock about 10 minutes per frame off that figure x3 The solution was to aggressively target the rendering engine to those high noise areas. Not only did this speed up the rendering. but the final image was higher quality as a result. This might not work as well for closeups, where the screen is filled with fur (the source of most of my noise), but I think I'm on the right track ^.^

On top of that, I'm planning on investing in a second RTX 2080 Ti card. My MB will support it, but heat management is another question since just this single card produces enough heat at max load to turn my tower into a volcano LOL

I also found some good settings in After Effects to clean up that remaining noise and make the final version clean enough to be acceptable =)

Money Shot - Early Access

Wed Jul 17 23:28:53 2019

My first animation commission is complete ^.^ Here's Favnir's ice dragon character featured in a short video with Kish. I'm especially happy with how Kish's hair turned out in this one! Thanks to the feedback I got from Dragon Rider, I decided to really dig into my cloth simulation options and used that to make his long hair move a lot more naturally =) I also used cloth simulation on Fav's wing membranes, which created a nice effect with them as well ^.^

As for the audio, it turns out that Favnir is just a really soft spoken guy, and trying to get him to vocalize as his large dragon character was a bit of a challenge x3 Kish worked with him for a bit though, and managed to get some good takes, then worked his audio sorcery to really bring the character to life.

Enjoy!

Phastor Sculpt Work-In-Progress

Wed Jul 17 01:26:42 2019

Here's my progress on sculpting Phastor's character tonight =) I had a bit of a false start about an hour in, when I noticed some problem spots in the geometry that forced me to correct that in the base model and start over, but I still ended up getting quite a bit done!

When I continue on him next, I'll refine the details I started sculpting tonight, and paint his proper colors on him. A lot of the muscle definition will be obscured by his fur, so it'll be a much more subtle effect overall than what you see here.

Enjoy!

Phastor_Sculpt_1.png

Sculpt-Ready Phastor

Sun Jul 14 19:26:17 2019

During today's stream, I finished getting Phastor's character model ready for sculpting! The next step will be to take him into Zbrush to sculpt the muscles and other details, then get him all textured and looking pretty =)

Enjoy!

Patreon Update

Fri Jul 12 20:33:55 2019

I know I haven't posted a lot recently aside from the streams, but I have been VERY busy working on the animation stuff, so I thought I'd post an update on what's in the works!

Favnir's Animation Commission - This project is complete aside from the sound work! We decided to hold off on that so that Fav could voice his own character while he's visiting us for the week =) He and Kish are actually working on that right now, and if it goes well, I should be posting that video in the next couple days.

Hit the Showers - My largest production since Fox in the Stable is in the final rendering phase! It took longer than expected to get to this point because I was working with new technology and techniques that weren't familiar to me, but I think it represents a huge step forward in what I'm able to produce, and I'll only get faster and more efficient with it as I produce more =) This video is going to feature motion captured character acting, dialogue, cloth animation, fluid animation, and a robust environment. The rendering process will probably take a couple months, but stay tuned for this one!

Phastor's Animation Commission - I'm just getting started on this one featuring Phastor's fluff dragon character. The character model is mostly done, and I'll probably be to the point of sculpting and texturing him by the end of tomorrow's animation stream.

No Horseplay - This one is in the queue as the next feature video I'll be producing (it's actually a prequel to Hit the Showers). I'll be starting preliminary work on it soon, starting with story boards, which will be posted here when they're complete ;)

Thank you all for your support! And I hope you enjoy what will be coming out soon <3

Hit the Showers Spooge Simulation

Fri Jul 12 19:41:46 2019

I just got the last thing done I needed for Hit the Showers =) The fluid simulation is completed. Enjoy!

Making a Fluff Dragon

Wed Jun 26 01:18:37 2019

I spent tonight's stream getting started on Phastor's furred dragon character =) I started by drawing the templates you can see in the background, and modeled a box into the rough shape of his character. After modeling Favnir's dragon character, I had less trouble with the wings this time around XD

Phastor is still VERY rough at this stage, so the next time I work on him, I'll be refining his shape, adding the eyes, talons, etc, and getting him ready to sculpt.

Enjoy!

Favnir Animation Final Composition

Tue Jun 25 03:15:32 2019

So, after dealing with some frustrating (and confusing) setbacks on this one, it's finally ready for final render! In addition to finding a solution to the coins, I also fixed some issues with Kish's fur, and used a cloth simulation to make his long hair move more realistically (this was in response to feedback I got after Dragon Rider).

This will most likely be the last post I make on this project before its official release. So, enjoy! ;)

Fav's Stash

Sun Jun 23 18:14:35 2019

So, the stumbling block I was running into with this project on Friday was creating the pile of coins around the treasure chest x3 My original idea of emitting them as particles wasn't working, so I ended up using a texture mapped plane for the shape of the mound, and then manually placed individual coins on and around it to pull off the effect.

I also fixed an issue I was having with the wing membrane simulation, so aside from the treasure chest missing texturing, I'm just a few tweaks away from kicking off the final render on this video =)

CoinTest2.jpg

Derg Spurts

Thu Jun 13 16:10:19 2019

In addition to the environment, the other thing I worked on during Tuesday's stream was Fav's cum shot =) I actually got most of the simulation set up on-stream, but waited until after to run it since it was going to take a few hours. I used similar fluid settings to what I made for Messy Stallion since I liked how thick and gooey that turned out x3

Enjoy!

Favnir Mountaintop Background

Wed Jun 12 23:03:34 2019

I was originally planning on a simple background for this animation, but I thought that a mountaintop scene would be really cool, and would be a lot different from the other videos I've done up to this point =)

Just to be clear, the animation commissions I'm offering at this time do not include a detailed background. This is a special case because A) this is my first animation commission and I'm erring on the side of putting too much effort into it rather than too little, and B) Favnir has been a HUGE supporter since I started my Patreon, and I thought he deserved something a little extra <=)

Having said that, I actually didn't spend a massive amount of time on this. I only started on the background half way through yesterday's animation stream. I spent about 2 hours on stream starting with a plane and sculpting it to the detail level you see here. Then I spent an additional hour or two off stream painting it and tweaking the materials in 3DS.

The only thing left to do modeling-wise is the box Kish is standing on. Originally, it was going to be a step-stool, but a rock would probably be more appropriate here. I also had a suggestion to make it a treasure chest, with gold coins laying around, looking like a dragon's hoard. There was even a suggestion to make it a crate of Monster Energy drinks, which anyone who has watched my streams would consider incredibly appropriate XD

Enjoy!

Hit the Showers - Fur Test

Wed Jun 12 21:01:55 2019

So, during last Saturday's animation stream, I ran into an issue when trying to add dynamics to the fur. Specifically, after recording the strand data, things would go wonky when I played it back. I believe I found a solution but, unfortunately it means redoing some of the work I already put into the fur.

The main fur seems to be working well in this test, although the strands along the top of the tail aren't working quite right, but I think that'll be an easy fix. The main thing I was focused on for this clip was making sure that the fur strands on Taurin's legs didn't clip through his swim trunks, and that part seems to be working well =)

The keyframing is pretty much done for this project BTW ^.^ Once I'm done tweaking the fur, I'll be able to do the fluid simulations, which is the last step before I start the final render!

Enjoy!

Favnir Commission Update

Sat Jun 8 04:27:58 2019

After about 9 hours of streaming today, I made a LOT of progress of Favnir's commission! It still needs a little tweaking before final render, but it's at least 90% there =)

Enjoy!

No Animation Stream Today

Sat Jun 1 15:36:36 2019

I got bogged down with work from my day job, and have to work on that throughout the weekend. However, I should be receiving time off later this month as a result and I plan to do a makeup stream at that time.

I am still planning on doing my art stream this evening, and I should still be able to do an evening animation stream later this week (probably Tuesday like usual, but work may interfere with that as well)

On the plus side, I did get a lot of work done on Hit the Showers recently! The lip syncing for the dialogue is basically complete, so now it's mostly a matter of fine tuning things before I can start rendering ^.^

About to Hump a Derg

Sat May 25 21:42:17 2019

For Favnir's animation, we decided on a scene of Kish humping him. The little fennec is only half the dragon's height though, so the plan is to having him standing on a step-stool. For now, I'm just using a box as a placeholder XD

This won't be a long animation, but it'll be a fun one to make. I'm hoping to knock it out in a couple weeks =)

Enjoy!

Fav Ref Sheet (WIP)

Wed May 22 03:06:10 2019

Tonight I finished the rigging on Favnir's character, including his cock and other naughty bits x3 However, I couldn't stay up long enough to assemble a complete ref sheet for him. I was able to render out the main poses, and in the next day or two, I'll complete this this with various facial expressions and closeups of the naughty bits ;)

For now though, enjoy! I'm very happy with how his character turned out <3

Hit the Showers Update (viewport preview)

Sun May 19 19:36:07 2019

I finished the motion capture cleanup on the final animation sequence for this project =) There will be some dialogue in this portion, which hasn't been added yet, and I will be making some additional tweaks before the final render.

I included a few seconds of the previous sequence in this video, since the beginning of the final sequence looks a little awkward out of context. I'm still new to working with mocap, but this final sequence really shows what it can contribute to the presentation by making it easier to get the characters to interact with the environment (Taurin sitting on the bench), and just as a guide for the timing, even if I end up completely changing the characters' poses (as I did extensively throughout the cleanup process).

Enjoy!

Favnir-ly Complete

Fri May 17 02:54:52 2019

I've moved on to rigging Favnir's dragon character, and he's nearly complete! In this clip, I'm testing his wings (which I used cloth simulation for to get the membranes to move realistically) as well as his facial expressions and overall skin weights.

I still need to model his tongue and cock, in addition to some cleanup work, and I think he'll be done!

Enjoy =)

Favnir - Materials Completed

Tue May 7 04:26:30 2019

I did some more work on Favnir's materials, and I think he's basically done =) I gave him a more realistic scale pattern, transferred the high rez details to his spines and teeth, and textured his eyes. During tomorrow's animation stream, I'll be working on his rigging.

Enjoy, and see you there!

Another Hit the Showers Update! (viewport preview)

Mon May 6 21:31:53 2019

I've been making a lot of progress on this lately! Here's the second-to-last sequence cleaned up, with a closeup of Taurin pulling out for good measure ;)

Enjoy!

Hit the Showers Update - Kish Fap (viewport preview)

Sun May 5 17:18:13 2019

Here's the sequence I worked on during yesterday's animation stream, of Taurin finishing Kish off after knotting the little fennec x3

I haven't done the spooge simulation for this sequence yet. That'll come after I clean up the rest of the video, as well as Kish's fur and hair, so that I can make the fluids interact properly.

I only have 2 more motion capture sequences to clean up! After that, I'll be able to add dialogue and start getting everything ready for final render.

Enjoy!

Hit the Showers Update

Thu May 2 03:50:18 2019

Today was a busy day! LOL In addition to completing Favnir's sculpting, I also made progress on Hit the Showers! This clip is from what I worked on today. I came across a better utility for my viewport previews that lets me better approximate the final scene.

This is the part of the video where Taurin pops his knot into Kish and starts pawwing off the fennec. I'm ALMOST done with the motion capture cleanup! After that, I just need to make some final tweaks and add in the dialogue before the project is ready to render <=)

Enjoy!

Favnir Sculpted

Thu May 2 03:22:23 2019

I completed the sculpting and painting of Favnir's character during today's stream =) And OMG, what a stream it was LOL. I started at noon Eastern time, and didn't stop until 11PM. Although we did take a 2 hour break for dinner <=) Kish made catfish, and it was delicious.

Since the last update, I added his chest scale plates, completed his markings, and added an overall scale texture to his body. I also got the sculpted version of his horns into 3DS. Now I just need to get the painted version of his teeth and talons into 3DS as well as texturing his eyes, which I'll be doing in Photoshop. Then it'll be time for rigging!

Enjoy! ^.^

Messy Stallion

Wed May 1 03:54:35 2019

My stallion character is back, and messier than ever XD

I reworked his fur and materials since Fox in the Stable, and made a few modeling refinements as well. I also got better at working with fluid simulation! The spooge in this video is more viscous and more stable than I was capable of pulling off in Fox in the Stable, and I was even able to get the fluid to interact with the stallion's fur. ^.^

Special thanks to Kish for doing the sound engineering and effects.

Enjoy!

Updates

Tue Apr 30 13:56:14 2019

I figured I would take the time to update everyone on some Patreon related stuff that's been going on recently =)

Streaming Schedule: I'm postponing the regular Tuesday stream this week, and will instead be streaming tomorrow. Most likely from Noon until whenever Eastern time. I'm going to try to make it a longer stream than usual, and hopefully hit several projects I'm working on.

New Short Video: "Messy Stallion" will be released publicly tomorrow, and will show off the advances I've made in dealing with fur and fluid simulation. I'm hoping to release short videos like this monthly in between my feature releases.

Hit the Showers: My next feature production has been progressing a bit slowly over the last few months as I work on cleaning up the motion capture data. However, I seem to be hitting my stride with it now as I'm gaining more experience with that workflow. This phase of the project is about 90% complete. Then I just need to add in the dialogue and make final tweaks before I can start the rendering process.

Commissions: My first commission project is proceeding faster than I expected! I started modeling Favnir's dragon character 2 weeks ago, and the modeling, sculpting, and painting is nearly complete! This is giving me a lot of hope that I'll be able to start offering animation commissions regularly with reasonable turnaround times!

Upgrade: Lastly, I wanted to send out a special thanks to CMDR Kitsune for sending me some additional RAM, bringing my total from 16GB up to a much more respectable 48GB! That will definitely be a big help! ^.^

Favnir Sculpting and Painting

Sun Apr 28 19:15:58 2019

The sculpting and painting process on Favnir's model is going WAY faster than anticipated =) I'd say he's about 90% done here. I still have to sculpt and paint his chest scale plates, add additional patterns, and add a nice overall scale texture to his skin.

I was able to reach this point less than 2 weeks after I started modeling him from scratch, which is really encouraging as I look to expand my commission offerings and build a larger cast of characters for my feature videos. I'm even thinking of putting together a character modeling tutorial based on my current workflow <=) I've been itching to add a German Shepherd character to my lineup, so maybe I'll use him for the tutorial. We'll see x3

Messy Stallion (Promo Art)

Wed Apr 24 01:20:07 2019

After bringing my stallion character back to life, reworking his materials and fur, I've got a new short video to show off of this guy giving himself a blowjob!

Kish is finishing up the audio now and my Giga Patrons and above will be granted early access to the video as soon as that is complete. It'll release to the public on May 1st.

I'm going to to try to release short, simple videos like this monthly (maybe one every 2 months for now) in between my feature releases while I work on ramping up my production schedule. I actually think this is already some sort of record for me, releasing this 2 months after Dragon Rider ;)

Almost Ready To Sculpt

Tue Apr 23 05:14:37 2019

I made a few more tweaks to Favnir's base model, and he's just about ready to start sculpting the details on =) Here's a quick render of what I've got so far! I'll be continuing work on him during tomorrow's (technically today) animation stream ^.^

Proto Favnir

Thu Apr 18 19:03:10 2019

So, I'm officially working on my first animation commission =) This will be of Favnir's anthro dragon character.

On Tuesday's stream, I started by drawing templates in Photoshop, and modeled the character's basic shape starting with a cube. I still need to add his spikes, wings, and scale plates. he's still pretty rough ATM, but I think I made pretty good progress for a single stream =)

I'm going to try to get the rest of him blocked in by next Tuesday, and then take him into Zbrush for sculpting and texturing!

Stallion Fluid Simulation

Thu Apr 18 18:12:14 2019

I wasn't completely happy with the fur dynamics and fluid simulation for this video, so I decided to re-do it. The fluids just finished, so I thought I'd share the preview video from Realflow =)

I mentioned in an earlier post that I was now able to make the fluids interact with the fur, and this video shows how I'm doing that. I was able to export the hair guides as mesh strips, which the fluid particles can collide with. I'm even able to adjust the collision tolerance of the strands so that some of the particles slip through, as though the fluid is seeping into the fur instead of just resting on top of it.

The effect is most noticeable on his long ankle hair closest to the camera. Not only does the fluid stick to the fur where it lands, but the long hair along the ground actually pushes the fluid that has already landed on the ground at that point.

I'm in the process of rendering out a test of the full sequence at the moment, and if all looks good, I'll start the final render =) This scene renders EXTREMELY fast, so the whole thing should only take about 2 days to complete.

Enjoy!

Messy Stallion

Sat Apr 13 02:55:12 2019

I think I've got this one just about ready for the final render =) As you can see from this shot, I've got the fluid simulation done, and the fur dynamics are working pretty well too! It also seems like my experiment of making the fluid interact with and stick to the fur was a success =D It's most noticeable in the globs clinging to the thick fur above his right hoof.

I'm in the process of rendering out a low detail test sequence, and if all looks good with that, I'll be on track to have the final version released around the end of the month.

Enjoy!

An update on Tuesday and trying something new!

Fri Apr 12 00:46:33 2019

First of all, thank you to everyone who reached out with your concerns. You guys are awesome <3

Without going into too much detail, we had a medical emergency early Tuesday morning (involving me specifically). It was a frightening experience at the time. I'm fine, but unfortunately the incident got blown a little out of proportion leading to a bunch of administrative BS we now have to deal with. I expect everything to be resolved within a week or two, but the exhaustion from dealing with that, and lack of sleep, considering this happened at 4 AM, just left us too out of sorts to stream later in the day.

That said, I'm feeling perfectly fine now, and we're planning to stream on Saturday as usual =)

As for the something new, I'm attempting something I haven't been able to do in the past, which is to create fluid that actually interacts with the character's fur instead of just going through it.

The new short animation I'm working on has my stallion character sucking himself off, and I'm trying to make it as messy as possible. If I can pull this off, he'll actually end up with spooge stuck to his mane and the long fur on his hocks. It should be fun ;)

If all goes well, this will be released around the end of the month, and I'm going to try to make these short videos a monthly thing to fill the gaps between major releases ^.^

Stallion Self Service (viewport preview)

Thu Apr 11 22:29:46 2019

So I've got the animation of this short video pretty much finished =) I'm targeting the end of the month for release. In fact, the fur is pretty much done too and basically everything else except for some material tweaks and the fluid simulation, which is about 90% there.

My goal is to release short videos like this in the months between major releases so that I'm constantly releasing new content ^.^ I don't know if I'm quite to the point where I can release a complete video EVERY month, but it shouldn't be long until I reach that point.

Enjoy!

No animation stream today

Tue Apr 9 21:01:03 2019

I have to postpone today's animation stream because Kish and I are both recovering from a pretty rough and stressful incident we had today. I'll try to stream later in the week if I'm up to it ^.^

Who Am I? (test render)

Wed Apr 3 02:04:35 2019

During tonight's animation stream, I got my stallion character set up for a short video of him sucking himself off. I'm making this a post for all my Patrons to see because I still haven't named this guy, and I'm looking for suggestions. What do you think? Who is he?

Also, I'm going to try to release a new animation every month going forward, even if it's just a few seconds long, like I'm planning for this one. I'll be dividing my two art streams between the main feature project and the smaller ones (with the smaller ones being the focus of animation commission projects starting in the very near future).

The Humping Begins (rendered-no fur)

Sun Mar 31 18:29:35 2019

On yesterday's animation stream, I got this sequence cleaned up, as well as most of the following one! I decided to use a moving camera in this shot, which is notable because the workflow I adopted for Fox in the Stable would have made doing so difficult. Now that I no longer have those technological limitations to work around, I have more freedom to set up shots like this ^.^

BTW, thanks again to the viewers of the stream who offered feedback on the camera motion and helped me to get that part of it looking good! And for those of you who aren't regular stream viewers, please consider joining in so that you can offer feedback as well ;) The streams aren't just for letting you passively watch me work. Everyone is allowed, and encouraged, to offer feedback and help guide the course of the project =)

Enjoy!

Wut?

Wed Mar 27 04:13:44 2019

So, I didn't stop working on this guy after tonight's stream. The previous post just showed his skin and fur in a neutral T-pose. Since then, I re-linked him to his old rigging (which I intend to improve), and added his eyes and teeth back in. This allowed me to pose him and render him in a more finished state.

So, here he is in a simple pose, showing a bit of confusion and concern as to what he's even doing here ^.^ Don't worry about that, old friend. It's just good to have you back.

Enjoy!

Bringing an old friend back to life

Wed Mar 27 01:18:17 2019

Yep, I'm giving the stallion character from Fox in the Stable a makeover =) He's been given a material upgrade and new fur! I actually re-sculpted him in Zbrush a few years ago, with better muscle definition and clean texture mapping, but didn't do anything with that until now.

He'll be a prominent part of the next major release (after hit the showers), but I also decided to try and release short videos between major releases, and he'll be the subject of my new side project. ^.^

Hit the Showers is still my focus, but I think I can also release some short clips between major releases without hurting my production schedule.

Enjoy! There will definitely be more of him to cum soon!

Hit the Showers (what I have done so far)

Sun Mar 24 18:16:21 2019

This has been a pretty productive month so far ^.^

I've been spending the last few weeks tweaking and refining several aspects of this video; choosing my camera angles, cleaning up the mocap recordings, adding facial animation, adding cloth and fluid simulations, and working on my materials and rendering settings.

Here's the final sequence I've got done up to this point =) There are still some spots that need work, but this represents about the 1st third of the video. Most of it is viewport captures, but I did include some test-rendered sequences as well.

Enjoy!

Water Bottle Test Render (video)

Thu Mar 21 00:29:57 2019

I was testing out a few things in this video. Mainly the water simulation as it spills from the bottle. That simulation went through several revisions, but I think it's looking good now ^.^ I even created an animated wet map that makes the concrete it falls onto get darker and reflective, and it even expands over time as the water soaks in x3

I also wanted to test out a different method for handling the reflected lighting in the scene and hopefully reduce both the noise and render time. It actually worked out pretty well in both respects! I'm still getting a lot of noise in some areas, mainly the highly reflective surfaces, but I should be able to clean that up without sacrificing too much rendering speed.

Enjoy!

Fennec Eyes

Sun Mar 17 03:18:58 2019

During today's animation stream, I played around with the camera angle a bit and got something I really liked! This point of view not only shows off Kish's expressions during the blowjob scene but also provides a very nice depth of field effect with the blurred background.

Enjoy!

Humpy Time

Mon Mar 11 04:14:05 2019

So, I've been continuing to refine the sequences for this video. It's not apparent in this render, but I finalized the cloth simulation of Kish pulling down Taurin's swim trunks, and even added the drawstring to the shorts, adding that little extra bit of realism to the sequence.

Here we see the two after the oral sequence with Taurin about to start humping the little fennec. Enjoy!

Taurin's Fancy New Swimsuit (test render)

Tue Mar 5 16:14:42 2019

Even though they'll only make a brief appearance in this video, I wanted to give Taurin's swim trunks a nice, contemporary appearance. I'm no fashion designer, but I'm quite happy with how the design came out ^.^ It gives the scene a touch more realism since it's something he'd be more likely to actually wear than just a bland single color thing that looks thrown-in. I'll probably add a draw string as well to complete the look.

Enjoy!

Videos Are Fixed!

Fri Mar 1 22:44:04 2019

After reaching out to our streaming video provider, they were very accommodating and provided us with the additional bandwidth we needed to keep the videos up! =) Everything should be working again.

Video Player Issues

Fri Mar 1 22:25:45 2019

Videos currently aren't playing on my Patreon site. Apparently we exceeded our monthly bandwidth allocation with our streaming video provider about 17 hours after Dragon Rider was released. We're in the process of trying to work out a custom plan with them so that we can get the videos back online (we were already on their highest tier).

Depending on the outcome of that, we'll decide how to proceed and get the videos back up ASAP!

Cloth Simulation - rough draft

Wed Feb 27 01:59:42 2019

I spent today's stream modeling some swimming trunks for Taurin and calculating an initial cloth simulation for it of Kish pulling them down. It could use some tweaking, but the results so far are encouraging ^.^ There will eventually be dialogue at the end of the scene here where the two characters seem to just be looking at each other.

Another Hit the Showers test render!

Tue Feb 26 21:37:28 2019

Here's another test render from the current project "Hit the Showers." I made some improvements to the lighting and materials since my last posted render. This scene is from immediately after Kish pulls down Taurin's swim trunks, and I love their expressions in this shot x3 I still need to model and simulate the swim trunks, which might end up being the focus of today's animation stream.

Enjoy!

Dragon Rider Early Access

Fri Feb 22 05:00:34 2019

It's here! after 8 years following A Fox in the Stable, here's Dragon Rider, featuring Kish Fox.

Special thanks to both Kish and Asher Ninetails, who did all of the audio work on this, with Kish even voicing himself!

Thanks to my Patrons (that's you!), I've been able to get back into my animation work in a big way! This is only the beginning ;) This video will be released publicly on 3/1/19 on Taurinfox.com and other platforms.

Dragon Rider is scheduled for release!

Thu Feb 21 03:37:48 2019

I finished rendering out the last few frames for this a couple days ago, and Asher and Kish brought it to life today with their audio engineering skills! I'm proud to announce that this video is 100% complete and is the first new production animation I've released in about 8 years.

$15+ tier patrons will get early access to it on midnight this Friday (2/22/19) and it will be publicly released on March 1st.

Thank you all SO much for making this possible! But this is only the beginning... "Hit the Showers" is a much more ambitious project than this and is already about 75% complete. Then I'll be moving on to No Horseplay, which will be my most ambitious project to date!

Hit the Showers Test Render (close up)

Tue Feb 19 19:08:47 2019

Here's another test render from the newly-revamped Hit the Showers scene! With the materials and render settings (mostly) sorted out, I'm ready to get back to cleaning up the animation itself.

This will be the focus of today's animation stream, which will be kicking off at 6PM Eastern time on Picarto!

Test-Closeup.png

Hit the Showers shifted Red (test render)

Sun Feb 17 06:42:20 2019

So, with the Kish dildo animation in the final rendering phase, and no work left to do on my part aside from waiting, I shifted my focus back to the Hit the Showers.

Since I'm using a different rendering engine than I was when I last worked on this, all of the materials had to be converted, which was no small task and was the focus of today's animation stream.

After the stream, I replaced the characters with new versions that I had meticulously created the fur for and copied the animation over to them.

So here's my first test render of Hit the Showers using the Redshift rendering engine (Hence the title of this post. Is it clever? I thought it was but I'm exhausted ATM and I'm not sure anymore LOL). It's a bit noisy and is rendering at 13 mins per frame, which is slower than I'd prefer, but considering it's rendering nearly 5 million fur strands and using brute force for global illumination, that speed is damn impressive! BTW, this is the first time a test render for this video has had the characters furred! Rendering with fur in a single pass like this wasn't an option for me until recently...

Anyways, enjoy! I'm going to sleep.

More Streams!

Sun Feb 17 04:03:42 2019

Well, we did it! We met the goal of $1000 in pledges per month, so I'll be doing 2 animation streams per week from now on ^.^

I'll probably do this additional stream on Tuesdays at 6PM. Thank you all for your support! I've got a new animation on the verge of release and the next one is getting close as well. This wouldn't be possible without you guys so thanks again!

<3

Money Shot!

Wed Feb 13 02:31:33 2019

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. The new animation is in the final rendering phase, and I don't want to spoil it by releasing too many of the final sequences <=) However, I just finished the last part that I needed to do for it, which was the fluid simulation!

So here's the money shot of Kish getting off x3

And with that... aside from waiting for the rendering to complete and possibly some tweaks if I notice any problems, my work on this animation is done!

Thanks to your generous support, we now have a second Redshift license so we'll be using Kish's computer for rendering as well (it's actually a bit faster than mine). Once the rendering is complete and Kish finishes his sound work on it, it'll be my first animation release in almost 8 years! I'm excited ^.^

So, I guess this weekend I'll be going back to the Hit the Showers project and hopefully getting that one knocked out soon as well =)

Where I'm at after 1 year on Patreon

Mon Feb 4 23:47:46 2019

Well, we're approaching the 1 year anniversary of when I started actively working on my art and animation projects again, so I thought I'd write up a recap of what I accomplished this past year, and where I'm looking to go with things this year.

1) The weekly art streams have been a great success! Both in terms of keeping me motivated to produce art, and also as an opportunity to engage my fans and remove any excuses I would otherwise have to procrastinate XD The same has been true of the weekly animation streams!

2) I have three new animation projects in various stages of production:

- A single character piece with Kish's fennec character riding a dildo is in the final rendering phase. I was hoping to have it finished by the end of January, but didn't quite hit that goal. The keyframing work is about 95% done with just a few sequences left to clean up. The rendering is about 60% complete and should be done in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, I'll be passing the project over to Kish shortly to provide the audio =) This will be the first new feature animation I've released since 2011 and, from a technical standpoint, is on a whole new level compared to Fox in the Stable.

- Hit the Showers is a two-character piece with Taurin and Kish's fennec character. It was going to be the next release, but I put it on hold when the motion capture cleanup starting taking longer than expected. I'll be returning to that project in the next week or two. That project, BTW, is actually a sequel to No Horseplay. The environment is done, and the keyframing is about 70% complete. I just need to finish cleaning up the motion capture data and adding in secondary animation.

- No Horseplay is a more ambitious project that I started a few years ago. It'll involve multiple characters, and focuses on the horse from Fox in the Stable as well as a new stallion character I'll be introducing. The environment is mostly complete, and the characters are about 75% done. Once Hit the Showers is nearing completion, I'll be going back to this one, probably starting out with a new storyboard so that I can fine-tune the concept.

3) Thanks to the generous financial support of my Patrons, I've been able to invest in some great new tools to help with my animation endeavors, including:

- A motion capture system for creating more realistic character movement

- A new GPU-based rendering engine that's significantly faster than the CPU-based engine I was using before (along with an RTX 2080 Ti card to run it on)

- New software for fur generation that looks better and is easier to use than the method I was using previously

Aside from progress on the new animations in the queue, I'm also hoping to finally start offering animation commissions this year! Those will probably start off on a pretty small scale. Most likely character modeling, 3D rendered reference sheets, and YCH projects to start with. For the YCH stuff, I'm thinking of revisiting my past ideas for the Yiffing Machine and Water Tentacles as the first YCH projects I'll offer. Once I hit my $1000 Patreon goal, I might make the commission projects the subject of the second weekly animation stream, while I continue to work on my other animation projects during the first stream.

I'm expecting this to be an exciting and productive year! Thank you all for your support =)

Kish Mocap Opening Sequence

Sun Jan 27 23:42:09 2019

So, I decided that since I've got this awesome motion capture equipment (thanks again guys), I'd be missing out if I didn't use it for this project. It doesn't help all that much for the humping sequences and stuff like that, but it's amazing for getting natural movement as the characters are walking through the scene, so I decided to do a sequence of Kish walking into the scene and plopping the dildo onto the wall to start off the video.

Yesterday, we devoted a portion of the stream time to recording the data and, as always, had a lot of fun doing it x3. So this is actually Kish in suit acting out his character as he saunters into the scene and plops the dildo onto the wall for some sexy fen times.

After I worked out some technical issues, the mocap data only took a minimal effort to clean up, then I used the Flex modifier to make the dildo look floppy in his hand, which turned out to be the most impressive part of this sequence in my opinion. It actually seems to have weight and substance! Do you guys agree? Let me know!

I'm currently calculating the global illumination pre-pass and this will be the next rendered sequence, kicked off tonight, if I don't run into any major issues.

Enjoy!

More looping fennec butt!

Wed Jan 23 23:50:21 2019

Here's the previously posted loop from 2 more camera angles. I added some jiggle to his balls for a little extra realism ;)

Unfortunately, I noticed a little glitch in the fur on the second camera view. I don't know if it's bad enough that I need to re-render or if I can just clean it up in post. It only seems to occur during about 5 frames or so. Otherwise, I'm really happy with how these sequences turned out ^.^

Enjoy!

And So It Begins (final rendering in progress)

Mon Jan 21 16:31:25 2019

Here we go! XD I'm working on rendering out the final animation sequence. I started by isolating a few loopable segments of the video that I'll render from different camera angles.

Eventually I want to use those loops to make the video interactive, but I'm not familiar enough with HTML5, which seems to be the standard for that right now. So the initial release of this will be a standard video format, but I can use the loops to help assemble the final composition.

This video is made up of a 100 frame sequence that I looped 3 times. The render settings I used MIGHT be a little too noisy. Although it only seems noticeable in certain spots on the wall tiles when played back at the full 1920 x 1080. What do you guys think? Should I try reducing the noise a bit more at the cost of render speed, or is it okay how it is?

Enjoy!

Wheeskerz!

Mon Jan 21 01:57:26 2019

So I added whiskers to Kish's character which was basically the only thing missing fur-wise x3 I also tweaked his fur a little more and I'm getting ready to produce what will hopefully be a final production render sequence. I'm about to render out what should be a seamless 100 frame loop. Let's see how it goes XD

Kish Fap Low Detail Production Preview

Sun Jan 20 02:56:58 2019

This took about 11 hours to render at 1 min per frame. I used a lower resolution and high noise threshold to get a fast preview render. This provides a pretty good idea of what the final render will look like, but you'll notice that the high noise threshold causes some problematic artifacts when animated. I found that reducing this setting to 1/3 of what it is here produces an acceptably low amount of noise for the final production rendering.

Enjoy this preview!

Kish Butt Closeup - Light Flickering Fix

Wed Jan 16 01:05:52 2019

I left the previous rendered frames with light flickering in for reference. About 1/3 of the way through, you'll notice a sudden shift in the fur (more on that in a moment) and the remainder of the sequence is much cleaner. I could probably clean it up even more at the cost of rendering speed, but that's something I'll have to play around with to optimize =)

As for the suddenly shifting fur; that's an issue that I'm currently troubleshooting. It occurs when I stop a render in progress and re-open the scene to resume. A possible workaround is to render the entire sequence in one shot, but that could take days, and is problematic because the computer might crash, or I may need to stop the rendering for some reason.

I'm not too worried about it though. I'm still pretty new to Ornatrix, and more than likely, I just have something set up wrong x3

Anyways, enjoy!

Taurin Fur Fly-through

Sun Jan 13 21:14:44 2019

Hello all!

Even though this is a video sequence, I'm releasing it at the Super Patron level since it's not actually a preview of a work in progress. Don't worry Mega Patrons, you're going to get a LOT more exclusive content soon here ;)

This is a fly-through showing off the new fur on my Taurin character. I included the water sphere and reflective surface to show how the rendering engine handles the fur as a 3D object. This wouldn't have been possible using my previous fur tools and rendering engine. And, because I could, I turned on the depth of field effect because it's cool x3

There are about 3 million fur strands being rendered here, taking an average of only 2 minutes per frame! I still can't get over the speed of this thing XD Of course, that's only the case because the background is so simple. A production quality video with a detailed background will take considerably longer to render, but is still WAY faster than I was dealing with for the same quality level before.

It's not quite finished though. I still need to style the fur a bit and give him some nice cheek fluff. I also need to fix his skin material. I'm using a material type that simulates the subsurface scattering of light in skin, but the exposed skin (pawpads, nose, gums, etc...) is rendering too gray and with unrealistic highlights. It'll probably be an easy fix, just not something I've dug into yet ^.^

Enjoy!

Taurin Fur

Sun Jan 13 06:01:15 2019

So I spent a while typing out a long and well-composed description for this that Patreon decided to nuke because I pressed the wrong button, so here's the short version...

New fur! Visible to global illumination, reflections and refraction. Couldn't do that before. 3 million strands, renders in about 2 minutes. Still need to tweak some stuff...

Currently rendering out an animated fly-through sequence. Will post when done if good...

Check out attached images. Enjoy!

Kish Closeup Production Render Test

Fri Jan 11 23:58:09 2019

I'm still learning to optimize the Redshift rendering engine, and I'm working on balancing quality with render speed =)

An obstacle I've come across is that a frame that renders fast and looks good on its own isn't necessarily suitable for animation. An acceptable amount of noise in a still frame can turn into a distracting artifact in an animation sequence. Reducing that noise unfortunately means longer render times.

I managed to get the noise level low enough in this sequence that it looks good on playback, but I encountered a new issue. The global illumination pre-pass is causing the reflected light to "swim" around on the fur because of inconsistencies in the samples from one frame to the next.

Thankfully, I think I know the fix to this, and it shouldn't significantly increase my render time, but it'll take time to render out a new test sequence, so enjoy this in the meantime!

More Renders!

Mon Jan 7 01:22:20 2019

Now that I'm really digging into the Redshift renderer, I'm finding ways to make the scene look even more realistic and visually interesting. Since my last post, I've made improvements to the materials and lighting. I also started using the vignette and depth of field camera effects. This increased the rendering time a bit, but I'm still well below the 10 mins/frame threshold I aim for. But DAMN if those effects don't just bring these renders to life!

I also got Kish's face rig up and running, so I started adding in the facial animation. I've got a little bit of keyframing work left to do before I kick off the final render, but it's getting close!

Enjoy!

Kish Dildo Renders

Sun Jan 6 04:18:03 2019

So I made it official and bought the Redshift license X3 Here are some production renders from the new animation project.

During today's animation stream, I worked with the materials, rigging and background props a bit. This is getting dangerously close to being ready for a final rendering! All I really need to do now is fine tune some of the keyframing and figure out how to make the animation interactive XD

Enjoy!

Kish Closeup Preview Production Render

Fri Jan 4 22:32:55 2019

Here's another test render sequence of the new project, this time from a closeup view!

I'm loving this render setup! I started this sequence last night when I went to bed and stopped it when I got home from work today (500 frames rendered). It seriously looks like my production rendering jobs will complete in a matter of days (weeks at most) instead of months like I had been dealing with previously <=) And that's just with one computer on the job! (I used three for Fox in the Stable)

Anyways, I made some tweaks to the fur distribution and dildo material before I rendered this sequence, and I think it's coming along really well!

I'll be working more on this tomorrow during the weekly animation stream, so be sure to check that out!

Enjoy ^.^

Kish Dildo Production Test Render

Thu Jan 3 00:47:04 2019

Thanks to my Patrons, I was able to make some investments in my animation process that will really help to improve my speed and quality!

As mentioned in a previous post, I decided to switch to a GPU rendering engine. I haven't entirely decided on which one I'll be using but, at the moment, I'm leaning towards Redshift based on its speed and features. I'm planning on using it for the duration of this project, which seems to be on schedule for release by the end of the month. And, if I'm satisfied with the results, I'll buy the license for it to remove the watermark.

As part of the GPU rendering solution, I invested in an RTX 2080 Ti graphics card. Using that card, this scene only took 4 mins per frame to render in a single pass! I'm sure that will increase a bit as I add more props and complexity to the background. That might not sound all that fast, but a similar scene using my old rendering engine and a similar noise threshold would have taken at least 5 to 10 times as long.

The most exciting thing about this for me is that I can finally use real 3D fur! In all of my previous animations, I had to use an environmental effect to create the fur. That method was fast and clean, but the strands weren't visible to the main rendering engine, so I always had to do some cleaver compositing to make it fit the rest of the scene.

Speaking of fur, I invested in a new plugin (Ornatrix) to create the fur. It's a lot more powerful and easier to use than my previous solution, and has very good integration with Redshift. I've only been working with it for a few days, and I'm already super happy with the results!

Enjoy!

Kish Fur Update

Sat Dec 29 00:56:55 2018

I spent today working on Kish's fur and hair, along with some other updates to the scene. Unfortunately, it looks like the new GPU won't get here until Monday, but in the meantime I have a new rendering engine and hair/fur system to work with. I'll be continuing with this project on tomorrow's animation stream!

Enjoy!

Kish Fur Test (GPU Render)

Thu Dec 27 20:22:31 2018

So, it looks like the era of GPU rendering has finally arrived!

TLDR: I made the transition from a CPU-based rendering engine to a GPU-based solution for my animations.

For over a decade, I've had people recommending GPU rendering engines to me, claiming that they're so fast they completely eliminate the need for a render farm. In practice, however, this didn't seem to be the case. The GPU rendering engines I've tried up to this point have been clunky to use, often missing basic features that I would need to produce anything of acceptable quality, and nearly always missing features I depend on to get the polished look I strive for in my work. Most importantly, these GPU renderers weren't any faster than the full-featured CPU renderers they were meant to replace.

I should clarify that specialized GPUs intended for rendering (like the Quadro series) have been around for a while, and do provide a significant performance boost, but those are highly specialized, not really suitable for general GPU use*, and often cost more than a new high end PC would cost. Also, these cards are meant to suppliment CPU processing, not to use a specialized GPU rendering engine.

However, it seems like the tipping point has now been reached, and modern GPU renderers actually can deliver on that promise of speed and quality on consumer-grade GPUs. Redshift is a popular and very good one. I tried it out recently and the performance was amazing, but there were some incompatibilities I couldn't resolve (it didn't like my fur)**.

I ended up settling on Vray RT***. I was already working with Vray as my rendering engine, so it supported the lighting and materials I already had set up. These test renders show what I got out of it with my old GTX 770. To my surprise, it handled the fur, global lighting, materials, and object-based motion blur with no issues, and rendered in about 1/3 of the time that the CPU based engine could have produced a scene of similar quality.

So, with these results in mind, I just ordered a new RTX 2080 TI card, which should speed up the renderings by an order of magnitude over the 770 (which I'll still be able to use for rendering because this GPU engine supports multiple rendering devices). Hell, if this works out well enough, I may eventually invest in multiple RTX cards. I think my motherboard can support up to 3. LOL For now though, I'll just see what I can get out of one, and then go from there <=)

Also, Kish recently got a new PC, which also has an RTX 2080 TI card. So I'll be using both machines for rendering when I'm ready to knock out this project!

The new card should get here tomorrow and, with any luck, I'll have it set up and going for Saturday's animation stream ^.^

Edits:

* The Quadro is actually fine for general GPU use, but just isn't worth it for the price compared to the GTX/RTX cards.

** Redshift actually renders my fur very well now. When I made this post, I was testing an older version of both Redshift and Ornatrix which weren't compatible at that point, but the newest versions are.

*** After working with the trial version of the Vray GPU renderer for a bit, I'm less satisfied with it than I was initially. It's less compatible with its CPU version than I originally thought and significantly slower than Redshift. I'm now strongly leaning towards Redshift as my new engine, but I expect the Vray GPU renderer to be a strong competitor in the future.

Kish Dildo Closeup

Sun Dec 23 03:00:29 2018

Kish Dildo Test Render

Sat Dec 22 22:43:05 2018

Here's a test render for the side project I'm working on with Kish and a dragon dildo x3 Since the main project I've been working on has far exceeded its original scope and will take a while yet to complete, I wanted to try to push out a smaller project in the meantime.

My intention is to make this a user-controllable looping video of Kish riding the dildo and pawwing off at the end. No mocap in this one or anything complicated, but this will give me a chance to complete Kish's rigging, which I can then use in the larger project ^.^

Also, speaking of Kish, he just got a new computer that I'll be using for rendering. It's about 3 times as fast as mine, so that should speed up my overall rendering times considerably =)

Enjoy!

Combined Lighting

Wed Dec 12 03:24:11 2018

This is the direct lighting pass combined with the modified GI from the previous post. It's not perfect (my noise setting is too low) but the result is that I get a stable GI solution with an average rendering time per frame of about 5 minutes, compared to over an hour if I were to do this in a single pass. This is how I managed to render Fox in the Stable on an old Core 2 Duo back in the day!

1.jpg

Sample Video Stable GI

Tue Dec 11 00:49:08 2018

So, one of the main accomplishments I achieved with my Fox in the Stable video was figuring out how to create a stable and fast lighting solution for the scene. Using this process, I managed to cut my overall rendering time by at least 1/10th. The global illumination for the background took about an hour to process, but only needed to be done once. The GI for the characters only took a few seconds per frame using a simplified environment. Here's the result showing ONLY the reflected lighting. Soon, I'll show you these results combined with the direct lighting ;)

Enjoy!

Dragon Dildo

Tue Dec 11 00:29:42 2018

I decided to take a break from the main animation to make a short, looping video of Kish fapping while taking a dragon dildo. Here's a rendering of the dildo that I sculpted during the weekly stream to use in the video. Enjoy!

Another Render preview

Wed Dec 5 00:59:30 2018

Here's another production render after working on the water bottle (and adding a few more in the background).

I'm planning on showing off something cool soon BTW, that illustrates my animation rendering process. I hope to release that in 2 parts over the next few days (if all goes as planned anyways) ^.^

Enjoy!

Preview Render Water Bottle

Wed Dec 5 00:53:24 2018

It's been a while since I posted any production-quality render previews, so, here's one! =) I decided to take a break from keyframing to work on rendering and materials a little bit.

Cock rigging go!

Sun Nov 25 03:47:49 2018

So, since the beginning of this project, I had the characters' cocks set up to be rigged as soon as the character animation was ready, and tonight I pulled the trigger on it. Really just Taurin's cock at this point, and it's not perfect yet, but it's pretty damn close. In this preview, you can see the setup for the oral and anal scenes. You'll notice that the cock stays aligned with Kish's mouth and tailhole, even though the humping timing still needs a lot of work x3

Anyways, enjoy, and expect a lot more refinement in the weeks to come!

Full Sequence With Updated Shoulder Rig

Fri Nov 23 04:00:00 2018

So yea, the results of the shoulder rig test were so unquestionably better than the previous version that I went ahead and mirrored the setup to the other side. This is the result of using the muscle rig on both of Kish's shoulders for the entire sequence. At this point, Kish's rigging is actually better than Taurin's, which I was super proud of going into this. So, I guess it's time to improve Taurin's rigging now LOL

Enjoy!

Tasuric Cumshot Final Version

Fri Nov 23 01:59:42 2018

This is the final fluid simulation version I completed for Tasuric https://www.patreon.com/tasuric to use for his latest animation. This was completed a little over a week ago, and was accepted by Tas for use in his new animation.

Now that the project is over, I can say that he was really great to work with! He was specific about what he needed, but was never unreasonable with his expectations. I hope to collaborate with him again in the future ^.^

This was a very fun project to work on, and I learned a few new things about Realflow that I intend to use for my own projects going forward.

Enjoy!

Kishy Cam (shoulder muscle rig test)

Fri Nov 23 01:32:07 2018

I think I finally found a good muscle rigging setup for Kish's shoulders. For this test, I rigged his right shoulder (camera left) and pectoral muscle with the muscle rig and left his other shoulder alone for comparison. I linked a camera to his body so that I could view the results throughout the entire sequence, and I think the muscle-rigged side is unquestionably better then the traditionally rigged side.

Of particular note is the sequence around frame 4350 where he has his arms up around his head. Before the muscle rig, there were issues with the shoulder twisting and shrinking in mass. The muscle rig fixed this. Also, around frame 7750 it is VERY apparent how much better the muscle rigged shoulder (Kish's right) is compared to the traditionally rigged shoulder (Kish's left).

Enjoy!

Fennecs don't like to be rigged, apparently.

Thu Nov 22 03:54:30 2018

So, now that I'm fine tuning the animation, I decided to revisit Kish's rigging. I got some pretty awesome results using the CAT muscle strands for Taurin's upper body, so I tried them with Kish's character, but got less than desirable results so far LOL

I did make some improvements overall with his shoulder and hip deformation, but he's fighting me with the muscle results. That's fennecs for you, I guess... Always got to be a problem.

TBH though, I'm not worried. I'm trying some pretty ambitious stuff with this project, and I'm learning a lot in the process. So, I'll just take this opportunity to thank you all for your support. You guys are making it possible for me to get back into animation, and I can't express how grateful I am!

Thank you!

Hit the Showers Update

Sat Nov 17 21:19:45 2018

Hey guys! I've been continuing to work on this project, both on-stream and off. The major mocap cleanup work is done and now I'm getting into fine tuning things.

After working on the fluid simulation project for Tas, I had the itch to keep working with it, so I decided to tackle the water bottle at the beginning of the scene. It still needs a little tweaking, but I'm really happy with the results so far x3

I also added a bit of facial animation to Taurin and improved the hand poses for both characters in this clip.

Enjoy!

Fluid Simulation

Thu Nov 8 05:27:47 2018

This is a project I'm working on for fellow Patreon creator Tasuric. He commissioned me to create a fluid simulation for the cum shot of his current animation project.

I've learned a lot more about this program since I produced Fox in the Stable, and this is the first time I've been able to produce a stable animation with highly viscous fluids. This might not be the final version, since Tas has the final say and he wants to work this into a loop, which could complicate things, but I'm still very happy with the results so far! Plus, this is officially my first animation commission. Yay!

Animation Update 10/21/18

Mon Oct 22 01:31:52 2018

The animation work is still progressing pretty well =) At this point, most of the motion is in place, and the bulk of my work at the moment is just refinement.

Starting with motion capture as the base, and refining from there (especially dealing with multiple characters) has been a lot like starting with a rough sketch and refining it until it's a polished drawing. So, as I continue working on this project, you'll see incremental improvements to the entire sequence as I get things polished.

Enjoy!

Mocap Progress

Wed Oct 10 21:26:43 2018

We re-took the motion capture footage for the animation during the most recent Patrons-only stream, and thankfully the sensor issue in Kish's suit seems to have been resolved =)

This is the result of that take after a bit of cleanup. I had to move the characters a bit and adjust them to each others' size and positions, as well as align them with the props in the environment as necessary. I also cleaned up the foot step data, making sure the feet are planted on the ground when they should be, and not sliding around.

I even completely replaced some of the mocap data with keyframes. The data for Kish's legs while he's on his knees wasn't usable, so I just keyframed that portion, but kept the mocap data for the rest of his body.

There's still a LOT of work to do, however. I have to clean up the hands in a similar way to what I did with the feet, but that's going to be a bit more complicated since the hands aren't just going to be targeted to a static object like the floor. Instead, the targeting will need to be dynamic, sometimes targeted to a body part of the same character, sometimes a body part of the other character, and sometimes a static object. This is a little tricky to do without creating dependency loops, which 3DS Max really REALLY doesn't like XD In fact, it tends to create a pretty horrible error where it will allow you to create the loop and save the scene, but will crash immediately when you attempt to reopen that scene.

I know how I'm going to do it, since I had to do the same thing for Fox in the Stable. But still, I'll probably save that step for last, after I do the rest of the cleanup <=)

Enjoy!

MoCap Mishap

Sun Sep 30 15:48:52 2018

During the animation stream on Friday (9/28/18), we hooked up our second motion capture suit for the first time, and Kish and I recorded footage for the new animation in a single take.

Unfortunately, there were a lot of issues... The biggest of which was Kish's character randomly jumping above and below the floor plane while he was on the bench. I fixed most of that before I created this preview video, but as you can see from Kish's arms and legs (to a lesser extent) randomly moving around, it looks like there were some other problems with the suit sensors.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the suit itself. It was our first attempt at recording with two suits at once, and I think we just need to do some fine tuning <=) So we'll probably be doing a few more takes today to work out the bugs before I decide on the final footage to use.

Otherwise, the result wasn't too bad. The characters not quite lining up to each other was expected since Kish and I are about the same height in person, but our characters' heights are noticeably different. It's also pretty difficult to set up our props (the locker and the bench) in the same locations that they are in the 3D scene, so a bit of editing will inevitably be required to compensate for that.

Overall, it seems like the mocap data will serve more as a rough framework for the scene that will need to be cleaned up and refined before it can actually be used in the animation. Much like taking a rough sketch and turning it into a polished drawing.

Enjoy!

Kishy Fur

Sat Sep 22 01:16:24 2018

I spent tonight's stream working on getting Kish's character furred. I still have a bit of work to do, but I think it's coming along well ^.^

We should have our second motion capture suit by next week, and I'll hopefully have the mocap footage for the next animation ready to go shortly after. We might make that the focus of next week's stream, actually =)

Enjoy!

Patreon Announcement Revision 3.01

Sun Sep 9 07:50:00 2018

Here's the viewport preview of the final revision of the Patreon Announcement video. I added in hand motion and an original soundtrack provided by Kish.

The final rendering will take a few days to complete and will be fully furred at the quality level of the previous image post. After that, I just need to select some interesting clips and cards to drop into the background, and BAM! I'll have a production quality Patreon Announcement video ^.^

I'm excited!

Taurin Comes to Life

Sun Sep 9 05:48:50 2018

I just finished setting up Taurin's fur, and I have to say this version of him is substantially better than than the old model! Way more so than I expected, to be honest <=)

This is basically a complete rendered frame of the promotional video I'm working on. It's done in a 2 step process, where everything except the fur is rendered using a high end rendering engine. Then I render the fur in a separate pass with a specialized fur renderer, and apply motion blur during that second rendering to produce the final image.

Total rendering time is about 1.5 minutes per frame at 1920 x 1080, so the rendering should be complete by early next week. I'm rendering with a transparent background, so that I can drop in animation and image footage to complete the final presentation.

I'm REALLY stoked about how he came out ^.^

Taurin_Fur_Final_Opaque.png

Patreon Announcement revision 2.02

Fri Sep 7 06:34:50 2018

So, I spent the bulk of this week setting up a custom facial rig for Taurin and learning how to animate dialogue. This is the result, after I created a set of phonemes for Taurin and painstakingly keyed those to audio queues in the dialogue. I also added in secondary facial animation (blinks, eyebrow motion, etc...), and I have to say the result so far has exceeded my expectations!

I still need to do some cleanup work and animate the hands, but I think this is getting pretty damn close to being ready for a final render. I still have to set up the fur, of course.

Enjoy!

Stream Week!

Sun Sep 2 20:06:36 2018

I've taken this week off from my regular job so that I can focus on my art and animations exclusively. I intend to stream what I'm working on for my Patrons to watch, but the format will be a little different.

These streams will be more passive than my regular streams, and are just meant for you to be able to pop in and see what I'm doing. I won't be engaging with the viewers like I do on the scheduled stream, but I will try to keep up with the chat if anyone has questions for me =)

I'll also be doing my full art stream at 6PM Eastern from 9/3/18 through 9/6/18 (I usually only do these on Saturdays). And then on 9/7/18 at 6PM Eastern, I'll do my regular animation stream, which will hopefully be exciting, as I recap my progress from earlier in the week =)

This is what you can expect to see on a regular basis if my Patreon support grows to the point that I can quit my regular job ;)

Promotional Video (rough draft preview)

Sun Sep 2 19:34:36 2018

Now that I've been a Patreon creator for a few months, I decided it was time to put together a promotional video. As a twist, I'll be presenting it as my 3D Taurin character, which will be my first attempt at animating diologue.

All of the progress you see in this video was done on my 8/31/18 Patreon-exclusive stream.

We had some technical glitches, as well as some fumbled lines, but by the 11th take, we finally had some good footage to work with =) Nevermind the surprised face at the beginning or the cock tip sneaking into the bottom of the frame XD Those were leftover keyframes from the current animation project that I didn't remove when I imported the mocap data.

I'm currently working on a new facial rig that will allow me to match Taurin's mouth to the dialogue.

Once that's done, I'll add in the rest of the facial and hand animation, and clean up the mocap data.

The final version will be rendered at production quality with Taurin furred and fully detailed, and the video of my webcam footage in the background will be replaced with examples of my work and clips of what I'm working on. It will also feature a sound track provided by Kish!

Oh, and please excuse the messy apartment in the background XD

Kish Guitar (MoCap test)

Sat Aug 18 16:00:01 2018

The motion capture suit (a Rokoko Smartsuit Pro) was delivered yesterday, and we used it for the first time on the Patrons-only stream. It definitely exceeded both of our expectations XD The tracking is incredibly accurate for something in this price range, and it's very easy to use!

Here's some footage of Kish playing guitar (and then almost falling over afterwards XD, with that data being used to drive his character model. The render settings weren't ideal for character animation, and the rigging isn't complete yet. We also didn't adjust the animation to compensate for the character's proportions, which is why there's some clipping of his hands through his body. But, overall, I'd say this was a really good and successful test of the system.

Enjoy! =)

Note: normally, this type of post would be for $10+ Patrons. But since we're just showing off the MoCap system, rather than progress on the new animation, I wanted everyone to see it ^.^

Motion Capture Suit

Sat Aug 11 01:54:40 2018

Hi everyone!

Thanks to my Patreon subscribers, as well as some generous donations and income from my art stream, I'll be purchasing a motion capture suit for my animations =)

The model I'll be getting is a body suit equipped with accellerometers that track movement. This should allow me to produce animations faster and at a higher quality than I have in the past!

I also plan on releasing videos of Kish and I using the suit as an exclusive for my Patrons. So stay tuned for that. It should be entertaining... LOL

Thanks again, you guys are awesome!

Muscle Rigging

Sat Aug 11 01:47:28 2018

Thanks to my Patrons as well as some generous donations and income from my art stream, we met our goal of getting a motion capture suit! Since I'll get it in time to use for this animation, my previous plan of spending tonight's stream keyframing the animation didn't make much sense. Instead, I spent the stream experimenting with a muscle system to make the characters deform in a more lifelike way ^.^

This was the result after I added a muscle framework to Taurin's pecks, back, and neck. The effect is subtle, but makes it look a lot more realistic than the bone rigging alone. I'll be adding to this and refining it as we get the motion capture data imported.

Enjoy! And thanks again everyone for your support =)

Storyboard Rendered

Sat Aug 4 05:44:50 2018

The new animation is starting to come together pretty nicely now =) Over the last two Patreon-exclusive streams, I blocked in the scenes that I sketched out in the original storyboard (available in a previous post for my $10+ Patrons). I also fixed some rigging issues on tonight's stream. Mostly the shoulders and hips, which were giving me problems.

So here's the storyboard in rendered form =) That said, there's still quite a bit of work to do, including:

-Keyframing the animation between scenes
-Adding facial animation and expressions
-Fixing some modeling issues on the characters
-Adding fur, spooge, and cloth simulation (notice the towel Kish is pulling off Taurin at the beginning, and the one Kish is holding at the end are missing
-Finishing touches on the environment

Enjoy!

Hit The Showers (very early and unrefined) Animation Preview

Mon Jul 9 00:43:44 2018

First of all, disclaimer: I know there's a LOT wrong with this brief clip. Normally, I wouldn't share a video this unrefined, but hey, seeing my progress is why you guys are here, right? XD

So, this is the first few seconds of preview footage from the new animation. Taurin is closing the locker that also serves as the title screen (using post-it notes for the title). Then, as Kish comes into view, he pulls down Taurin's swim trunks before things start getting frisky ^.^

Some things that need to be fixed:

-The timing is off on some spots

-There are still rigging issues with both characters

-The poses need work

-There are no facial or secondary animations

-Taurin's swim trunks aren't modeled yet

I'll be addressing these things and continuing the animation on my next stream =) All of my Patrons are welcome to watch! (Usually on Fridays at 6PM Eastern)

Enjoy!

Cock Progres (Cockgress?)

Sun Jun 3 21:28:45 2018

I spent a portion of Friday's Patreon-only stream redesigning Taurin's cock a bit. I took the original version (bottom) into Zbrush where I reshaped it bit, added some veins and other details, then exported that detail as a normals map. The new version still has the same polygon count as the old one, but I think it's looking better. I still have some tweaking to do on it though.

Background Update

Sun Jun 3 21:20:22 2018

Not a whole lot new here, but this is the current version of the background. I added the overhead lights and towels. These started off as subdivided planes, which I folded using the cloth simulator.

Mon May 21 02:49:19 2018

The changing room scene is almost complete! I just need to add the lockers and a few more props before I can call it done =) Then, as soon as the character rigging is complete, I can start animating!

Facial Animation

Sun May 20 20:26:58 2018

On Friday's Patrons-only stream, my viewers got to watch me create a facial rig for my Taurin character =) I decided to throw together this quick video of him making a few facial expressions using that rig, as well as test out his eye and mouth movement. I'll be expanding on the rigging in the future, adding more expressions as necessary, possibly even in preparation for dialogue. Enjoy!

Wed May 9 01:48:45 2018

I wanted to make an early announcement that this week's Patreon-exclusive stream will be on Thursday this week instead of Friday as usual. It'll be back to Friday next week! Hope to see you there on the 10th!

Changing Room Background

Sat May 5 02:00:54 2018

I had a chance on tonight's Patreon-only stream to work on the environment for my upcoming animation "Hit the Showers" ( I was running into some issues with rigging the characters, so I thought I'd change gears a bit).

The setting of the animation is going to be the changing room of a swimming pool at a tropical resort. I got the basic layout, materials, and lighting mostly how I want it, but there's still a lot to add (lockers, showers, and other props to make it look more realistic.

Things are moving a little slower than I wanted, but I'm excited about how everything is turning out =) BTW, the benches are Kish's contribution to the scene. He's getting into modeling as well, and is hoping to help me with prop building and other assistance going forward.

3D Animation Stream 5/4/18

Progress!

Sat Apr 28 02:21:39 2018

Tonight's Patreon-exclusive stream went for 4 hours, and was quite productive =) I resolved some issues I was having with the high resolution normals map, modeled the eyes and textured them in Photoshop, got the bulk of my skinning work done, rigged the eyes with a look-at target, and started the facial morphs (just the blink so far).

Overall, I think he's coming along quite well, and what I'm learning in the process of reworking him should make my future character work go a lot more efficiently.

Enjoy!

Taurin Mapped And Textured

Sun Apr 22 16:24:13 2018

This is the same low polygon model I shared in a previous post. Since then, I completed his UV mapping and used a free utility called Xnormal to transfer the color and surface detail from the high resolution Zbrush sculpt.

The color data transferred perfectly, but there were some issues with the normal map that was generated. I'm not too worried about that though, since the fur will obscure most of the surface details anyways, but I will be working with Xnormal some more to try and refine the results, since it will matter for future objects I create using this method that won't be furred.

Now, it's on to the rigging x3 I already have a skeleton built for him and the initial skinning is looking good. It's mostly just refinement at this point until he's animation-ready!

3D Animation Stream Today (6PM Eastern)

Fri Apr 20 20:53:29 2018

I'll be streaming my 3D animation work tonight. I've completed the low poly Taurin model, and am working on getting the high rez detail transferred from Zbrush. You can watch me continue my work on him at the following Picarto link!

TaurinV4 Low Poly Model

Sat Apr 14 17:35:30 2018

So, I'm moving along nicely with my Taurin character rework. In a previous post, I showed off the high resolution Zbrush sculpt. And while a 13.7 million polygon mesh is great for detail, it's not so friendly for actual animation work, so I needed a low polygon version with a good surface flow to work with. This version (which has a total of about 8500 quads) was created by building new geometry directly over top of the Zbrush sculpt in 3DS Max.

If I intended to output this for a game engine, I'd want to get the polygon count to at least half, if not 1/4 of that. But for production rendering work, this should be optimized enough as-is.

The next step will be to create a UV template for texture mapping. After that is set up, I'll be able to transfer the high resolution detail from the Zbrush sculpt in the form of normal, bump, color, and ambient-occlusion maps.

The next step after that will be to set up the rigging for animation. After which, it'll be on to keyframing the next animation =)

Enjoy!

Taurin Rework Zbrush Sculpt

Sat Apr 7 02:36:30 2018

So, after realizing my current Taurin 3D model badly needed a rework before the next animation, I spent this week doing just that. It started off as a vaguely Taurin-shaped blob in 3DS Max that I imported into Zbrush to sculpt. By yesterday evening, the sculpting was finished and I started on coloring.

During tonight's Patreon-exclusive stream, I finished the coloring, touched up the sculpting and began constructing the low poly (relative to Zbrush) version of him to be animated in 3DS Max. I still need to continue building the low poly model and transfer the color data, but hopefully by this time next week, I'll be ready to start rigging ^.^

Enjoy!

The character model sheet and a time lapse of my progress on this model are available in my previous Patreon posts.

Taurin v4 re-work Work in Progress

Fri Apr 6 04:42:07 2018

Okay. This is a very long one, but it is an almost complete video of creating the base model in 3DS Max and sculpting details in zBrush. I decided to re-do Taurin after looking him over, and decided that there were a lot of problems with the previous version that are being fixed in this one.

I'll continue work on this model for tomorrow's Patron stream!

Taurin and the Water Tentacles Trailer

Fri Apr 6 01:27:22 2018

Found this old gem on the old hard drive. This was released before the Water Tentacles animation was released.

Unfortunately, the deadline was missed. WOOPS!

Anyway, this hasn't seen the light of day in years, so it's a bit of a relic!

Since this was released to the public before, all patrons can see this :)

Taurin Character Sheet

Sun Apr 1 23:05:08 2018

So, I was looking over my existing 3D model for Taurin, and decided he needed a rework. I wasn't completely happy with his face, and the geometry was plagued with triangles and stretched faces.

I drew this template to work from, and I'll probably be working on him as the subject of my next Patreon-only live stream. I'll model the base version in 3DS Max, then pop him over to Zbrush for sculpting and texturing.

I hope to see you there! I expect it to be a fun little project ^.^

Animation Anouncement!

Sat Mar 31 01:11:06 2018

Hello everybody! Patrons and those of you considering becoming patrons!

I would like to officially announce the title of my next animation.

Hit the Showers

This will be a shorter-format, M/M Piece featuring my red fox character, Taurin, and my mate's fennec fox character, Kish.

I am working on a feature animation, similar length to A fox In the Stable. That's going to take time to produce, so in the mean time, I've decided to create this shorter one to fill the space.

The storyboard is available for $10+ tier Patrons, and I am eager to see what you think about it!

Thank you everyone for your support, and I'm looking forward to seeing how this one turns out!

Hit The Showers - Storyboard

Fri Mar 30 04:04:36 2018

My first storyboard ever. Woohoo! Seriously, all my animations up to this point have have just been based on a vague idea of what I wanted to do, but they would have been better had I not skipped this step. Actually that's not 100% true. Fox in the Stable was based on a sequential art piece I did as oil paintings back in 2002, which was, for all intents and purposes, the storyboard for that animation.

https://www.furaffinity.net/view/3900853/ and https://www.furaffinity.net/view/3905893/ if you're interested x3

So anyways, this will be the next animation in my queue. It's actually a sequel of the main animation I'm working on, but it's something I believe I can complete in about a month (yea yea, I know, we'll see).

In this animation, Kish and Taurin have retired to the changing room while the stallions do their thing, but Kish is feeling a little frisky and initiates some playtime with Taurin while they're alone.

Enjoy!

Test Render 2 (animation in progress)

Tue Mar 27 00:07:52 2018

Here's another rendering from the animation scene I'm currently working on. I especially love this camera angle because it shows off the caustic lighting effects in the water as well as the evening lighting with the sun in the distance. Again, the scene may change quite a bit before the animation is done, but this is the work in progress so far x3

Enjoy!

Hi patrons! This rendering is a work in progress for my current animation project. It still has quite a ways to go, and the scene may change a lot before its done, but here's what I have so far. I won't talk too much about the project now, as I intend to make it the subject of my first Patreon-only live stream session coming up this Wednesday. So, if you're interested, be sure to tune in ^.^
