Hello all! Bulletin for you: November will be a mess.

I've scheduled to the best of my ability, but there's no getting around these two weeks. Without telling you too much of my private life: it's definitely not a vacation, but it's not a disaster either. Don't worry, I'm not in any medical danger or anything like that, but it promises to be an extremely busy and exhausting time for me, which impacts what you'll see here. As a result:

• The BigCartel store will be closed for at least two weeks. If there's anything you want to buy, you better buy it before the end of the Red October Special.
• There will probably not be Patron Rewards for November. It's on the schedule above, but don't count on it.
• Apart from automated posts, I won't be drawing very much for these two weeks. I'm going to be too preoccupied, but on the upside, it's a further chance to rest the arm.

Something I wanted to try, to cut down on the more tedious parts of painting, is to reduce the number of unique colors each character design uses. Ash, for example, used to have two different brown tones, one for her hair and one for her skin outlines, but I think with enough judicious lighting I can make that work with one color. Similarly, Patch used to have a unique pink color for his tongue, but it's just as easily communicated if I use the same red as his poncho.

Hey all. Bit of a weird one here...

I have to be frank with you: I have sat down and tried three different times to get a composition to work for this month's "Arches" collage, and I don't know if I can do it on time, or at all. I don't know why this one in particular is challenging me so much. Part of it might be that there are so many submissions, but also that they kind of contradict in some ways that I can't square. Some people want to see canyons, but also the water, some people want a neon night sky like I often do, but some also want it to be stormy? And a lot of people want large objects, like robots or famous monuments, that I don't think I could fit sensibly into a single frame.

I wanted this last collage to be a big sendoff to the idea, since we'll be doing something else for a few months, but you never seemed too enthusiastic for the collage concept, from what I saw. Would you rather we skipped it and maybe I did another ATW page instead? Or are you interested in seeing it fulfilled, even if it's going to be late? Or should it be simplified? Let me know with this poll, and thanks in advance.

Hello everybody! As I've mused in previous posts, some changes are coming to this Patreon's tiers, condensing the four levels down to two. This is mostly caused by my slowed pace due to the arm/wrist injury, that I'm running dry on things I can offer for four separate levels of Patron, and frankly, a broader need to shake things up a bit.

For $2, a Patron will get about the same stuff that they do now, seeing all the exclusive content and voting on monthly Rewards (wallpapers etc). The new $6 tier gets that, and discount codes, and gets to do more participatory Rewards. There's a new monthly event that I had a cool idea for, and can't wait to try out. We'll start doing it in mid-August, most likely.

Of course, you can still pledge however much you want, but if this change means you won't be contributing your $1 anymore, I understand! Thank you so much for chipping in to my livelihood, and I hope the money clears up enough for you to come back sometime in the future. On August 1, the current tiers will be removed, and the new tiers will be added, and then you will need to adjust your own subscription to be placed in the tier you want, since I can't do it for you on my end. If you don't change it, you will still automatically pay your current amount without being in a tier, and I'm sure you don't want to miss out.

Arm's feeling better lately, though I'm having good days and bad. I'd love to get back to my old pace soon but my doctor says I might not get there for months: a lesson to pay attention to your work environment and not overexert yourself.

Hey all, it's #53 this month, with three possible stars and many possible arches. This month, as we've sometimes done, everyone can vote and submit ideas, regardless of tier. The form will be open until 0:00 UTC on July 22.

As a heads up, some revisions might be coming to my tiers/rewards in future months. I've noticed a big drop in Rewards participation over this first half of the year, despite the number of Patrons (and the number of Patrons on each tier) remaining pretty stable. The problem is, apart from merchandise that I'm still waiting on, and ATW pages, I've really been running out of steam and Rewards ideas lately, so I've been considering cutting the four tiers down to two - maybe one at $2, and the other at like, $7 or $8. Nothing is definite yet.

There's also the factor of my slowed pace, due to my recent arm injury - it's probably not permanent, but my therapist expects me to take a while returning to full strength, so output will probably be reduced. I'm sorry we had to sit June out, but hopefully the rest of this year goes more smoothly.

If you have some suggestions for stuff we could do on this Patreon for the next half of the year, or on tier changes, please write below or send me a Patreon DM with your thoughts. I'd love to hear any input you have. And as always, thanks for all the support you lend me.

In wrist news, recovery continues. I'm looking into ordering a new, more ergonomic desk (preferably the cheapest one I can find) and flinching as I wait for medical bills to hit me. Hopefully those won't be too incapacitating.

Hello, it's me again, keeping you abreast of my personal health.

I just got back from another office visit. This time, a physical therapist suggests I've probably got some kind of artistic-tennis-elbow, but doubts it's anything that requires surgery. So I've got another round of painkillers, instructions for daily stretches, and have been pointed to an occupational therapy course.

And in even better news, I drew the above doodle without any pain at all! I might have lost a whole month, but I might even have something to show you before the 1st. Further bulletins as they come.

Hey all, just got back from my doctor appointment.

After about 9 days of painkillers and rest, my arm feels better, but not completely painless. X-rays of my shoulder revealed no obvious causes. I also haven't lost any mobility or strength in my arm or wrist, as far as the doctor could tell. Overall, the pain is much reduced today - as in, it just started to feel better yesterday.

The orthopedist I saw today could only suppose that I'd strained something harshly, since he sees no evidence of a lasting injury. Lacking any kind of obvious cause, they've suggested I consult someone in their sports medicine department, keep taking the pills until I run out, and call if something becomes more urgently painful. So ... progress, but no answers.

What you see above is pretty much all I could draw in these past days. It's only a practice piece, but I could only work on it for about 2 hours before I started to hurt. Although the pain is subsiding now, I don't think I'll be doing very much art for the rest of the month. I'll judge how much I can draw based on how I'm feeling, but I don't want to take any risks. So, same as before, it looks like June is a lot of involuntary time off.

Hello all. Hope you're doing alright with the mess(es) going on around the world. I wanna poke in for just a bit to let you know what's been up with me.

Since Memorial Day, what I thought was an overworking pain in my wrist has mutated into a more generalized ache all throughout my right arm and shoulder. It doesn't impede my mobility at all, but it's painful to move around in some directions, or to hold anything heavier than a phone. I went into a clinic today to have it looked at. The doctor's best guess is some kind of trapped nerve in my neck or shoulder. I'm on painkillers now, and have an appointment with a physical therapist next week.

I've been ordered to take work very slowly until more is known, so you might not see much this month. I might do some writing projects, instead of art. ATW pages will still be worked on, just less frequently. Worst case, I might have to postpone the wallpaper and collage until July.

You've all been very understanding and accommodating so far, and I'm extremely grateful to have you, especially in times like these. Wish me luck and health, and I'll do the same for you. Have a great summer.

Hi all! Just some news to tide you over, since I probably can't do much art this weekend.

My arm and wrist are feeling less pain, but I'm not interested in taking chances - and I haven't really had a good break since like, January - so I'm taking the Memorial Day weekend off. Hopefully stuff can resume smoothly after that.

In the meantime, the store's test run was a success! Thank you all for shopping, even if you ended up just browsing. Hello! This is a small update to let people know that I've adjusted my commission process a bit.

Trello was recently acquired by a company called Atlassian, and requires that users make a new account with that company to keep using the service. Rather than put my personal data in the hands of one more faceless enterprise I'll never actually talk to, I decided to stop using Trello altogether. Apart from commission queues, I use Trello less frequently than I ever have, and I think that, by now, you'd all trust me to finish things at a rather steady pace, and to inform you if things will be slowed. Trello was also intended for team/collaborative organization, something I don't especially need, as a company of one person.

So instead, all future commission queues will appear on my portfolio website. All the forms will be the same, all the processes will be the same, they're just displayed in a new place.

For those of you wondering about my online store, I'm still waiting on a lot of the products to arrive, and I don't want to begin with insufficient stock. Quarantines and lockdowns have unexpectedly slowed everything, so I don't know if we'll see that open until, like, May. Sorry for the delay, but I want to have everything in order before opening.

Wayne is a revision of an older, one-off character design from years ago. I've been stewing on some things he and Rosa could get up to together... purely platonic things, of course.

Since they aren't posted in a gallery anywhere, and we don't know how reliable Tumblr/Twitter/etc will be in future years, I've put a collection of my older art up for free on Itch! This includes a lot of my earliest commissions, my 2015 "furries in fashion" period that ended up creating Hammock, and various birthday gifts/incomplete doodles for other people. More will probably be added later, if I can unearth it from my old hard drives.

You probably recognize the recently-created pink yeen, Vincent, but the other character is Barca, an OC I've only drawn once before, in 2012. She's also one of my only characters to not be named after a musical joke - I was listening to the History Of Rome podcast at the time, and she's named after Hannibal Barca.

A test of the new balloon style I described in the previous post. More tedious to make, but a lot more legible than the other one.

So here's a little behind-the-scenes thing that you might have noticed about this page, if you yourself make comics at all: the word balloons. ATW, like El Indon before it, has always used my preferred style of no-outline, color-coded word balloons, but the color scheme in this scene torpedoes that pattern.

The Jacobsens were established in the previous issue to use white word balloons, which I don't want to change - white is the only color they can use, being very plain people - but the lighting in this grocery store, being an overwhelming white, means those balloons disappear into the background. This impairs the page's readability, which is what the wine-magenta balloons on this page are for, as placeholders.

This isn't the first time the word balloons and the layout have been counterproductive, but it's pretty much the last straw for me. I'm going to apply outline strokes to the word balloons from here on out, and probably revise previous issues to match the new style. It would fit better with ATW's stronger lineart anyway, since unlike El Indon, it doesn't have the painterly, masked look to it.

A relic of times gone by.

Hey all! Just a quick update here in the middle of January to let you know how I'm doing.

I'm going out of town for a personal break, from the 15th to the 20th, so there'll be a bit of a quiet period. I'm also still at work on my gig for the Fandom documentary, so there'll be the Patreon Rewards later this month, but not much else. Those of you looking forward to commissions opening again, expect them around the first week of February!

Hello Patrons! I'm writing this bulletin to let you know what to expect this November/December. I've had a very bad year! But I want to try and end it on a high note.

The big news, as some of you might know, is that I've been contracted to do some effects and animation work for The Fandom, a documentary by Ash Coyote and company. I've known Ash for a long time, and this is a good gig, so there was no way I would turn it down. However, because it is animation (laborious, and not much to look at until it's finished) it means this gig is going to occupy a lot of my time in the coming months, and that means this Patreon will be kind of quiet for the rest of the year. We will still be doing Nov/Dec Patreon Rewards, and I want to make a few more ATW blog posts, but apart from those, you might not see very much from me. It also means that we won't have a Mistletoe Matchup auction, or a commissions opening for the rest of the year. Sorry to those of you who wanted to do your Christmas shopping, but my schedule is filled.

For those of you waiting on your ATW daki preorders, those are still on-schedule. The products have reached me, and are in good condition, but the packaging for them has not arrived yet. If that doesn't appear in the next week or so, the supplier and I will be having some stern words.

Originally, I had a design rule that you wouldn't see Midnight CA in the daytime at all, but that meant the werewolves would almost never get to spend time hanging out with their human friends, so instead I've decided to make Day!Midnight look as vague and glassy as possible. If you've ever seen Mirror's Edge, the notion is similar.

Hello all! Here's a short update for you to give you an idea of my progress in the past 4-ish months, and what you can expect from me in the near future.

The monthly-comic model seems to be working okay so far, though it's slower than I'd like. I've had to pace myself to keep my drawing arm from abuse. Two comics in about three months is not the pace I wanted to achieve, but if it means they do come out, and my wrist doesn't break, I'll take it. It's been a rough time for me in real life too, and it's going to stay that way for the foreseeable future. I hope you understand, and hope you enjoy the comic, even if the speed doesn't always keep up. I do plan to make more chapters of El Indon, and maybe even an ATW#4 by year's end. We shall see how it goes.

You might notice I had to take commissions again, going against the plan I outlined in the Reconstruction Report. This is to finish paying off my tax bill, which I can finally do with the extra money. Comic page production will slow next month because of these, but hey, you probably expected that.

If I can score a table at MFF this year, you'll probably find me selling the print release of ATW#2 there. You might even see some attractive pillows. Hint hint, wink wink.

Musa is a character of mine so old and obscure that I have essentially nothing to describe. Hey all. Just taking my off day to touch base with what's been going on with me, and what's up in the future.

FoxMeGently is slightly behind schedule for my issue-a-month comic plan, but that's not a terribly big deal to many of you, I'd imagine. This new living arrangement of mine eats into some of my work time, so it might be more like one issue every five weeks. That's not a great drawback to me.

After that's done, the next issue will be Ask The Werewolves #3, which is still in outline form. You can also expect another voting fight between less-used character designs next month.

In the Pipeline, you'll see some other ideas coming soon. In addition to the next chapter of El Indon, there's going to be a skunk-centric adult comic, and an expansion to the Hammock Telegram stickers set, which you'll all get a voice in! The ATW shirt remake still has to happen but it's low-priority, and Secret Project #1 remains on the backburner until these other projects clear up.

And there'll be a body pillow. Or two. Or more.

Hey Patrons! This was mentioned in the reconstruction report, but in case you missed it, the $30 tier and its monthly sketches were too much of a timesink to be worked into my new business model of one-issue-every-month-or-so. With Patreon Rewards #39 now closed to entry, this round of sketches will be the last.

For those of you in the $30 tier, thank you so much for being so supportive over these past few years! You will need to manually adjust your own pledge settings to rejoin at the $10 tier. There's still plenty of space there, so you shouldn't have any problems. Of course, you can still pledge any amount you want, but you need to join the tier to get the perks.

Starting in Patreon Rewards #40, the $5 and $10 tiers will be the only choices, though I will probably expand the $10 tier to include more submissions for collabs, since we almost always have duplicate entries.

Hello, all. As I mentioned, I'm moving, again, and I'll be all-but-unavailable for weeks. Rather than charge my Patrons for a month of almost no content, I will pause this Patreon during April. That means not taking pledges, and not making Patreon rewards for that month. I know that this will disappoint a lot of you, but I'm not going to have the time, energy, or even internet access, to make anything except commissions I've already taken. Hey everyone.

Nine months after moving here, and some six weeks into my money crisis, with basically no moving options left, I've come to a hard conclusion: living in California isn't working at all.

Despite your infinitely appreciated help and support, both financial and emotional, and my sincerest efforts to trim down my expenses, living here is just too pricey. I don't have enough money to even qualify for renting in most places, even with roommates. The place I live now has been kindly letting me rent month-to-month without asking too many money questions, but it's not the kind of place I want to live for any longer than I have to ... and the simple problem is, I can't afford anything better than this. I was house hunting for the better part of three months, with several candidates, and nothing bore fruit. And now, with very little reserve cash, I'm pretty much out of money, time, and options.

Long story short, I'm moving back to the Midwest. There's not going to be a road trip video this time - I'm selling my car, and buying a plane ticket, and going to try my best to start over, yet again. I'll still be working on the commission queue and doing my best to fulfill all the Patreon obligations. However, early April will probably be either very slow or totally quiet. In fact, I'm thinking about pausing this Patreon for April (not taking money, not producing posts). Frankly, I'm already feeling very burnt out, and by the time the move is done I might not be in any position to work on anything at all.

This … I can’t lie, this really fucking sucks. I’m gonna do my best still, because you’ve earned it, and I appreciate you all so much, but just know that I am kinda at the end of all of my numerous ropes lately. Thanks for being here.

The bad news is I'm doing this because I just plain need more cash, and that means delaying production of Fox Me Gently / ATW#3 / El Indon Chapter 8. I'm extremely disappointed to have to do that, but I don't have a lot of options right now. I'm in the process of looking for an apartment (again), I have a dental bill coming up (again), my sleep test was rescheduled (again), and I'm just not in a monetary position to be working on a comic that pays out after it's finished, as opposed to commissions that pay me up-front. This is simply not a good time to start work on those comics.

As part of the ongoing clean-up, and per reader suggestions, the $2 tier is now active! Starting next month, NSFW posts will be behind the $2 tier. You can still see NSFW posts that were made before the switch, but all future sauciness will demand that extra buck.

Meanwhile, the $15 tier will cease to exist in 48 hours. At 6 PM Pacific Time on Tuesday, it will be replaced by a $10 tier with the same rewards, and 30 slots instead of 15. Working off of the feedback from the previous post, here is one possible arrangement for this Patreon's tiers for the rest of 2019:

$1 Patrons can read the blog, except for NSFW posts.
$2 Patrons can read the blog, including NSFW posts.
$5 Patrons get the monthly wallpaper, and get to vote on its subject matter.
$10 Patrons (limit 30) get to submit ideas for the monthly collab.
$30 Patrons (limit 15) get a monthly sketch commission of their choice.

This seems like a good arrangement to me so far, though it might need to be hammered out a bit. What do you think? Do you have any improvements or adjustments you think could be made?

Hi all! One goal I have for my Patreon in 2019 is to give it a new coat of paint, a new intro video, and do some tinkering under the hood. I need your input on some stuff.

I've been thinking about changing the tiers/rewards around a little, to get more people interested in pledging. Don't mistake my words, 2018 was a pretty good year for this Patreon (any year I don't finish bankrupt is a good year). But, not to sound like a capitalist oppressor, there wasn't a lot of growth, or even room to grow. You'll recall I needed to do donation drives three times. I think it's safe to say I'm still not in a position Icould call "stable." I've been wondering if maybe a change in reward tiers and a renewed focus on gathering new Patrons might be the way to go. Here's my analysis of things as they are:

The $1 tier is still in a good spot, I think - you get to read all of what I make a few days early, plus the lewd stuff, plus WIPs. I also literally can't make it any cheaper, so, it's about as good a starting point as possible.

The $5 tier, I think, is a bit weak. You get the monthly NSFW wallpaper, but a wallpaper isn't a lot to add, especially when you can already see all the other lewd stuff at $4 less. Maybe if people could vote on what the lewds were, that would be a nice twist? We did that last year, to middling interest. How could these $5 be made more fun?

The $15 tier is also a bit weak. You chip in a collab idea, but it's got to be safe-for-work (because NSFW requests can be incompatible) and it's got to be limited in number (because I can't fit 400+ ideas in one piece). I thought about expanding this to 20, 25, or maybe 30 slots. It's not that much more work, it just makes the composition phase harder. Unfortunately, slots on this tier seem to sit empty more than the others - maybe the price isn't quite worth it?

The $30 tier is still pretty good - I'm a bit slow at making them, but the simplification and shorter form times have sped things up, so I'm having a much easier go at it. These are the tier in the highest demand, and I would love to expand it, but I don't think I can do more than 15 of these at a time, not with my sleep disorder and all the other work I have. This might be at its limit.

Problem is, I'm wondering how to improve this Patreon without adding too many things, because adding things to my schedule would slow down production of ATW, El Indon, and all the other stuff people want to see. It would also break my hand. A primary goal is more audience participation, since that's a big draw to persuade people into chipping in their hard-earned change.

You might think streaming is a natural branching point, but my own tries at art streaming turned out not-so-good. I find it hard to focus on the art, or on talking, even with a guest, and people seemed uninterested in no-talk streams. It wasn't very fun for anyone involved. I don't know if I can expand in that direction.

Do you have any ideas? If there's something you think could work well, or an idea you would like to suggest, sound off in the comments.

Quick thing for Halloween since ATW#2 is still underway; Blackbird and Duran visit the Nightmares Fear Factory.

Well, that got done faster than last time, which was the plan! Points for that.

You'll notice that the sketches aren't shaded this month (except for Blitzroo's, because it's part of a set). I made that choice so it would cut down on the time each sketch took, but I have to say, I wish I didn't need to. I still like how these came out, and hope you do too. Hopefully once I get my apnea treatment (appointment this Tuesday!) that won't be as necessary.

Issue 2 begins with a cameo appearance from a familiar face.

They're finally done! Most of them are adult this time.

I have to say these took way longer than they should have, and it's not just because my illness was acting up this week. Sleep apnea or no, 15 sketches should not take 4 days. The entire point of these, after all, was that they would be doable in small batches toward the end of the month, and they're not turning out that way. I didn't think the workload was that bad, but this has already set me back, almost a whole week into October. Something has to change.

So I have some rough news: in the future, I'm going to be more strict about what I accept as submissions for $30 Patron Sketches. That might sound weird, seeing as right now there kind of aren't any rules, but hear me out.

Ideas that are too complex, or would take too long to make, will be turned down, and I'll ask you to request something simpler. Loosely, you're less likely to see me making couples' pieces (a second figure usually isn't so bad, but this batch of 15 has 7 of them) or laying out complicated poses. As before, you can always have your sketch upgraded to a full commission, if you're really dedicated to the idea.

Don't feel like you need to change anything in particular right now. If your idea is too much for me to take on in the batch, I'll tell you, and there'll be no bad air between us. Until then, thank you all for this month's pledges, and I'll see you soon with the form for Rewards #33.
