Warmups from my stream from 9/1/2020. Enjoy!
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
I've made an extra tier! Glorious Tacocats! And I think it'd be fun for that tier to have a Suggestion Sunday, where you can comment what I warm up with when I draw, and have polls for monthly colored pinups/After Dark (18+) works.
Also concerning After Dark work, I do have some pieces in the works, it just takes more time for me to draw em, and I can't stream it unless it's on Picarto so I'm working on being able to switch between Twitch and Picarto more easily.
I wanted to say that it's hard for me to set a schedule for private 18+ streams because of uh.. unguaranteed privacy.
I'm in between studying for a certification exam and streaming more so I have things to keep me busy during this quarantine, haha.
Keep being awesome, and thank you for your continued support. <3
Enjoy!
Enjoy! The timelapse video will be available for Patreon supporters here soon.
Sorry this is delayed, I tried editing it the night of, and it crashed on me.
Enjoy!
Colored sketches in the works. Enjoy!
I think I'll make this one a show or movie based meme, then I'll do a gaming one.
Even if the videos are less than 20 minutes long sped up by 10x, they do take quite a bit to edit, render, and process on the Tube of You. Nevertheless, enjoy!
YOU get a video credit, and YOU get a video credit (at the end!). =)
Personal stuffs to relax, and I'm working on a Twitch emote for my subscribers. =)
Enjoy!
So I guess Patreon was having trouble integrating with my Discord channel. I disconnected my Patreon from Discord and set up everything again. So if you are in any Tier and would like your special, unique role in my Discord channel to be fancy and show off your support, double check that you have connected Discord to your Patreon account in the Apps section of your settings.
Thank you!
I dabbled into the scary world of spray paint. Also included is a mockup, a photo I drew over imagining what the final thing will look like. Fur will add a bit of thickness to the face.
Also, don't you love that taco bandana?!
I like to take pics of the head and draw over it to get a good idea how it's going to look in the end. So far I love how it's coming out!
Lined the inside of the mouth with felt. I also made a lip by folding felt, it goes around the edge of the red felt to make the edge not look so raw. Also, I put in the 3D printed eyes as a placeholder.
Lookit dat tongue! I lined the inside of the eyes (but ended up taking them out, going to use a black foam instead). Ears being worked on. You can see the lip that is pinned in place.
The first part of the ear is on. I took a pic from the side to help me visualize some more. I'm gonna need to make a pretty big hat!
Sorry for the blurriness. This was a quick one I thought I'd throw in. The eyes got 4 coats of orange spray paint. I just need to do yellow now and then coat it with finishing spray.
I'm so excited to see how this will look when it's all put together!
So here's what I've been working on lately, still stretching those creative muscles of course. Enjoy!
Drawing over the image helps me visualize the final thing. The base is made by StuffedPandaStudios.
Look at these awesome 3D printed eyes!
So this is a test paw. The pile is 2" long shaved down with Andi's clippers with a 7FC ceramic blade. Next time I'll make the arm less tight.
More soon! <3
Hello!
I have paused my Patreon for April. But any posts during that time will still be made here and free! Thanks guys! <3
Hey all,
Wanted to post something for Thank You Patrons Day. I have so, so much planned for 2020 and I'm building a great foundation for the new year with the remaining days in 2019. Not to mention turning 28 in December, eek! Time goes by too fast.
I've had an extremely rough past year, with being in the hospital twice, a breakup, and moving to a new city. It's hard to pick yourself up after being beat down so much, but I am looking forward to a much brighter, more colorful future. I want to thank everyone for their support, not just in the past year, because some of my patrons have been supporting me and my artwork for several years, and that's incredible!
You guys are the best, and as always, never hesitate to reach out for me to poke me for anything. Being more available is one of my resolutions. If you haven't already, you can merge your Patreon with your Discord account to be able to access the patron-only chat in my Discord channel. If that picks up I hope to be using that more often. Telegram was too much for me for personal reasons, so I deleted my account.
Again, my heartfelt gratitude for all the past and continued support.
Cheers,
dodgyrom/Alishka
Hello there!
1 new post in my Tip Jar + tier including a sketch and a colored piece. It's an After Dark piece.
Also, I integrated Discord with my Patreon, so if you have Discord, feel free to join my exclusive channel for Patrons. I figured it'd be easier to handle than a Telegram channel.
Thank you!
Hey guys!
Thank you all for the support throughout the months (or years!). I've been trying to be transparent with what's going on in my life. This summer threw some more life-changing curve-balls at me. I ended a four-year relationship and moved hundreds of miles away to a new city and adjusting has taken me a while.
I have been overhauling my lifestyle for a healthier, happier version of me, including lots of physical exercise and being more mindful of my alcohol consumption. So far, so good! I sleep a lot better and feeling like I have more energy.
I'm looking forward to this month because I've been doing lots of thinking and planning about a consistent stream schedule, as well as private Patreon streams. Taking time off to juggle all this is worth it for me and my future content!
Thank you all, for everything and stay tooned!

Enjoy some more finished and in progress boozy antics!
Sped up 10x, decided to try portrait mode on my Cintiq this time. Enjoy!
Please enjoy!
I know I drew the Alpha Jay pic flipped at first, whoops! Haha. Haida is fun to draw, but also difficult for some reason!
A pic for some pals!
Protecc this blushy boi!
In case ya missed it!
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
Hey there!
I'll be pausing my Patreon for July because I'm moving to a new city. Scary but exciting stuff.
Wish me luck!

I'm turning my Patreon into a tip-jar in May but will still be posting WIPs, timelapses and that sort of stuff.
Life has become very hectic for me since being sent to the ER twice since December, so I think it's for the better that I make this change.
Thankfully I've knocked out my two biggest hospital bills. I know I've been editing tiers and changing things around a lot, apologies for the craziness.
Anyone who still has a commission in the works with me will have their pledges go towards the final cost (they are all Pay After Completion). If you have a question about your commissions, or wish to cancel your commission, send me a message on here, or at [email protected]
Also, if you have pledged in the $8 tier in February and March, the 25% off discount will still be honored for the next (2) commissions ordered from me and the discount does not expire.
Thank you very much!
Stream timelapse from 4/10/2019
Enjoy!
Hey guys,
Things at home are still kinda rough. I'll try to keep producing content for Patreon for April, keep working on commissions I owe but I will probably just leave this as a tip jar after this month.
People who have commissioned me will have their pledges put towards their commissions.
Thank you all for your support.
Things have been pretty nuts in regards to March, I started therapy and it has taken a bit out of me mentally. I also got a new temp job .. as the Easter Bunny at the mall. HAHA! And the suit is actually really cute and NOT creepy. It's amazing. But the suit also gets hot really quick. I got a balaclava and an ice pack for my neck to help me out. *thumbs up*
But yeah, thought I should actually have a ref sheet for da Ali Kat. =)
I believe I'm working at a good pace so I'm opening two slots for a flat color commissions.
SFW or NSFW. $55 per character, $40 per each additional character, 4 character MAX. (Paypal fees not included). Also if you're in the $8 tier I'll add the 25% off discount. Will have a simple color background. Anything more complicated will cost extra.
You MUST comment here first to claim a spot.
Hello,
I have edited the types of pledges I am offering as well as tier prices. It is your responsibility to edit your pledge before February 1st, 2019 (one week from now) so you won't be charged more than you'd like. No refunds will be given February if one didn't change tiers in time.
I also posted this reminder a week ago. This will be the last reminder.
Thank you and I hope you'll enjoy what I have in store for this year! Let's make it a good one!

Hello,
I was sent to the ER and was in the hospital the morning after my birthday. I'm home now, but I would just like to post here that if you would like a refund for your Patreon pledge for December due to lack of content this month, please contact me through a message with your paypal address and your pledge amount. I'm still resting/recovering and I do not have the time to individually go through each pledge before I leave home again.
My Patreon has been paused, and no Patrons will be charged in January or longer.
Thank you and I hope your holiday season is going well.
Hey there,
Turns out, my sister got denied unemployment benefits and still has not found work so I gotta kick up the pace to keep up. After a lot of thought, I will be taking down the $20 tier and replacing it with a $15 tier. At this point I will not be able to offer 50% off commissions. Instead, I'm thinking of lowering it to 38% off commissions to reflect the tier percentage difference. Perks will remain the same.
This will take affect soon, so keep an eye out on MONDAY, December 17th, for the new tier. There will be limited slots. I hope this gives people enough notice.
As of today, these are PAID commissions and perks to complete in December:
Raywolf, FeralFurE, Angst_ROM (80% sketched) - Colored sketchpage
October Patreon perks
Anon, Jolee - colored sketches
Foxy - 10-character Holiday Pic(started), colored sketches(started)
Fenril sketchpage (60% done), Pic with 3 panels (partially paid(?) depending if we decide to add color)
Payment After Completion:
Supa - inking
ed - sketched, ready for inks
Seraphon - inking, Freebie 70% inked
Chutora - sketching
Kickaha - not yet started
Foxy - (3 pics) not yet started
Angst_ROM - not yet started
Please note that starting in January, commissions will be taken through my commiss.io site, here is the link - https://commiss.io/dodgyrarts, I am moving info from Trello to that site.
Thank you for understanding.
Hey everyone.
I was able to land a new part time gig for a while to help out with the situation here. It'll mostly be during the day so if I stream, that'll basically be at the same times I normally stream.
I'm taking December to finish my queue and be fresh for January. I'm also going to try to churn out some more After Dark stuff/patron-only content for Patreon as well. *thumbs up*
See ya guys later!
Attached are the 4k versions of both pics below, and the .PSD for the Carmelita image. There's a lot of experimental stuff in the file in hidden layers.
My gosh, the perspective on macro pics is hard, mad respect to macro/micro artists.
The 30th.. yes, 30th WIP I have saved of this image. I think I may scale down the amount of images I'll use in the progress gif!
All of these are also available to download in their native resolution.
So you probably heard from the previous updates that my partner lost his job. Since then he's been doing gigs but it obviously isn't enough to make up for with the job he had.
A month after he lost his job, my sister got terminated from her job she had for 8 years, over some petty bullshit. I live with her.
This has been very stressful for all of us. We've downgraded our internet and lowered the monthly mortgage payments that we split between the three of us.
The timing of this all is incredibly stressful on all of us. We have been scrambling to organize to be able so we can keep the house. My sister is eligible for unemployment payments as long as she proves she's applying for new jobs. I was planning to go back to school part-time in January, I'm already enrolled, but I may have to drop a class or two and use the money to keep us afloat.
I feel terrible that this is happening when I just recently got back on my feet. These circumstances with their job issues are out of my control, so it makes me feel pretty helpless.
I'm sorry, because of this I just cannot offer free Xmas art this year. Once we get back on our feet though, I'm totally planning something for you guys, maybe something like a free enamel pin for all my Patrons.
Thank you for understanding.
Some WIP shots, 4 in 1 post as to not spam you guys this week. I'd like to work on a Twitter banner featuring Lishka and Ali Kat in some cool poses.
This will be fully colored - lights and shading. Purty!
Gonna try experimenting with colors on this one.
Colored sketches
Flat colored pic.
Posting this a bit early, before I actually stream.

Hey there!
I'd like to thank you all for your patronage during October, and I would like to say hello to new patrons. =)
Thank you for sticking with me through this rough patch (see past update post). My partner still hasn't found a job yet; the situation its tricky. He got his first job through a recruitment agency that is now claiming that they will help him find a new job, but they're taking their sweet time. He is unsure if would be a breach of contract with the agency to find a job on his own. It's been a stressful time.
On my end [insert butt joke here] I'm still chipping away at the queue at a reasonable pace (and you can always find the updates here - https://bit.ly/2Mtb74L ). I am unsure when I am reopening commissions, but I'll try my best to not keep you guys waiting too long. Technically I do have a spot for a 10th person if anyone wants to grab that.
As for a private stream, I was thinking of trying to do short spurts of them after a normal Twitch stream (since they don't allow NSFW stuff). I'll try that tomorrow (Friday) night. Monday, or Murrnday, haha, I'll attempt to do a longer private stream.
Here's the link for the private stream - https://picarto.tv/dodgyrom/dodgyromPatreonStream9
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
I grouped the layers into lighting/color adjustment groups, a main character group and a background group for easy organization.
The 'bg white color' and 'bg flat color' layers are for when I want to just have the character on a flat colored background.
The circular clouds were done by me painting with a cloud brush, then going to Filter > Distort > Polar Coordinates. This made it so the clouds would 'wrap around' the moon.
I prefer to keep original copies of the first flat color pass I do, just in case I'd like to darken or lighten the flat colors before I add lighting and shading.
Any other questions regarding my process, feel free to ask, I'll be happy to answer.
Something fun I'd like to finish before the month ends. It's going through a lot of changes, but hey, that's the fun of creative problem solving. :)
Hey guys,
Recently me and my partner have hit a rough patch. He unexpectedly lost his job last week and we've been scrambling to get some things together and, well, hold it together. I have confidence he'll be able to find work again, but things on my end have been slower with the stress and all.
I apologize for the delay in commission work and content for my Patreon page.
Thank you for understanding, and even more thanks for stickin' with me. I have a lot of videos I need to turn into timelapses, and timelapse gifs that I'm excited to be able to share with you guys in the near future.
*hugs*
Technically it's 2 but.. I'm postin' this one first.
edit: added the .PSD file =)
The more I draw these characters, the more I capture their essence. Here's a preview sketch of a print I would like to make.
If you haven't played Night in the Woods, I would highly recommend it if you love a good story.
Hello there Certified Spaghetti Angels! I know I haven't been posting a lot of timelapse videos, but I AM planning to spend a day or two here soon to put together several vids and progression gifs. I have a lot of material, I just need the time to work my magic and put them all together.
Thank you so much for your support! I hope you have been enjoying the sketchpages and sneak peeks.
Flat color commission where I really tried to push the poses, using Roger Rabbit as a reference and excellent learning experience.
Playing around with eye styles, and an Ali Kat with a black jacket under a black denim vest covered in patches. Love that look.
My attempt at recreating Darwin and Gumball in my style. I had to give Darwin less fingers and give him mitten hands to lessen the creepiness factor, haha!
Revving up for another productive art week. Stay tooned!
Info here! https://trello.com/b/lRKMqurV/commission-info
Just comment here, ON THIS POST, to claim, then fill out a form for the type of commission you'd like. If you have something else in mind like a ref sheet, just ask!
First notice for Patrons :)
Info here! https://trello.com/b/lRKMqurV/commission-info
On October 5th, 12PM CST I'll be posting openings. First 5 to comment to claim gets em. Don't have to comment with your idea, just something like "I'd like one!". NOT ON THIS POST, though. This is just a heads up.
Cheers!
Hoping to turn these into process gifs as well once I am finished. The top image will have a timelapse video on coloring and shading.
Here's a first look at a sketch I'd like to turn into a full image for the Fall.
Those Sully doodles were meant as warmups. It was interesting to get to learn how to draw Beast. Understanding the underlying structure helped a ton. He has a very particular facial structure, so when it was broken down to me in those notes on the right, it helped me visualize it in my head a lot better. I highly recommend studying from model sheets.
Drawings included are used under Fair Use copyright for educational purposes.
Trying not to spam you guys with 8 bajillion posts with each individual image. =P Here's a handful of stuffs that I've been working on.
Working on a sticker pack of my new sona! I think I'll do 3 or 4 at a time.
I did combine some slightly older sketches (still within the same week though). Idk, I just kept expanding on this one cuz I had a rough day and wanted to doodle it out. I'd love for that Fall scene to be turned into a fully colored pic before fall ends.
Hey there! So instead of a raffle, I came up with an idea that patrons can suggest characters for me to draw during my warm up/cool down doodles. It can be OCs or fanart. Must be SFW but can be suggestive. Note: this doesn't guarantee that I'm going to draw everything everyone suggests.
Feel free to post refs/ideas IN THIS POST! Don't direct/private message me. I want them all in one place for this coming week. ^^ I'll probably make a post like this every week.
Thanks so much!
Hey guys!
Recently it was brought to my attention that having a monthly raffle for my patrons is considered gambling by Patreon and not allowed. I did not know this and now I'm feeling pretty silly. I'm trying to think of an alternative reward I can have, but feel free to suggest anything.
Thank you for understanding. More arts on the way!
Not entirely just sketches. With the colored pic of Dog, I tried to experiment inking with Kyle's Drawing Box - Glide Sketch Pencil. It's okay but I'm preferring the Animator Pencil 2016.
With the pic of Penny dressed as Star Fox, I tried to sorta demonstrate how to draw a pose in another angle. Still workin' on it. ^^ I also have another thing coming up about skull structure, just gotta format it and add text.
Hey there, I'll be opening 2-3 commission slots (Patrons get notified first) during next week. Chippin' away at my current queue. Here's info! =)
Some people have asked if this new character is going to replace Lishka - and the answer is - nope! =D She is just going to be an alternate sona for when I'm feeling rather... catty. Lol. Honestly though a lot of the time I feel my personality fits more like that of a cat anyway! Don't touch my belly.
I haven't finalized a name, but she is a Lykoi cat, a breed that lacks an undercoat and looks similar in appearance to a horror film werewolf. The fur is shorter like peach fuzz around the face, and despite the shaggy look, all of the fur still retains that super softness that is appealing to me.
Gotta keep the hoodie too of course. ^^ Can't wait to post a colorized version!
I'm experimenting with the Timeline option (Window > Timeline) in Photoshop CC to make animated GIFs of my process. Here I only had 9 images to work with, as I only saved my progress every so often. I wish I had saved more periodically as I was inking, because it went from sketch right into full inks fairly fast.
What do you think? Would you prefer these over timelapse videos?
Does it go too fast, too slow? I'd love your feedback! =)
Also included is the full resolution 4k image.
Anything in particular you'd like to see more of? ^^ Videos with commentary explaining my process? More tips?
Coloring timelapse! This also reminds me I need to fix a minor error with the Mortimer & Squirt pic. Also included are the full-res 4k files I worked with.
I tried to remove the chat box with some free video editing software, but it left a giant watermark in the video. So I think in later streams I may keep chat off-screen. ^^'
Every patron gets their name in the end credits of my timelapse videos. If you'd like to go by another alias, please send me a message of the name you use on Patreon, and then the name you would prefer to be in the credits. =) most of the time it gives me real names.
Thank you all for the support, *smooooooooch*. So many timelapses to edit hehe.
I had an idea for my patrons to offer critiques and art tips. We'll see how a feedback day or two goes and go from there!
If you have any WIPS or finished projects, please send it to my email at [email protected]. The email title must be "Feedback day" and your name as it is on Patreon. Make sure to describe the issues and difficulties you're having and send some references (if any). I will choose one or two to critique.
Full res, 4k high! Includes a thank you doodle for foxlover91 for all his support during mah streams. Thank you kindly!
An ink commission I did I wanted to put some colors on. =) Included are the 4k pics of the inks, flat colors, and one with a colored bg. I think I messed up the recording, but we'll see. I have a lot of videos I need to edit into timelapses coming up.
Somehow Tubbs from Neko Atsume snuck in there!
4k version attached in this post. Tools used: Kyle Webster's Animator Pencil 2016 on a Cintiq 22HD with Photoshop CC.
A peek of my warmups and such that I work on. =) Nearly 5,000 pixels wide, ahah!
More to come. ^_^ I think I'm going to change the text that says 'Tips' to 'Taco Fund' =P
Criminy, why did I choose such an insane head angle for that wolf? Ahahaha! I got to bust out my resin wolf skull to use as reference. It helped, but still, that's a crazy difficult angle.
Will be filling this out more with warmups and the like. Still need to work on my Patreon banner. =)
Naughty squirrel! Dale is next. ^_^
Timelapse of a full colored pic, sped up 5x. I'm learning a lot about drawing backgrounds from the Chip n Dale comics. =)
Feel free to hop on in via this Telegram link - https://t.me/joinchat/FFQhjQzRUL5yK4Ak1eJHlQ
Post a comment here to claim THEN fill out the form located under 'Commission Inquiry Form' -
https://trello.com/b/lRKMqurV/commission-info
That link includes the TOS. Colored comms preferred but inks are fine as well. Will be done before 8/9.
Hello -
I've made the decision to temporarily disable my Patreon (I will be setting my Patreon to 'patron only' instead of 'creator' so I can keep it active without making a whole new account. I don't want to seem like I'm just sitting here collecting pledges without rewards.
I'm moving during the month of June, so hopefully I'll be all settled in a new, better working environment for July. I'm really excited about my new environment.
Also, just for good measure, for any 2 future commissions from me, the 15-30% respective tier rewards will still be honored.
This action of disabling my Patreon will begin in the next 24-48 hours to give enough notice to my patrons.
Thank you very much for your support and understanding.
On 4/4 I went to the dentist to get 4 cavities filled. Well. either 1) they either drilled too deep and hit the nerve or 2) something happened where it got infected and the bacteria is strangling my blood vessels and nerves, which led to extreme pain a week and a half or so after the fillings.
You can see how strangled they look! Anyway..
I've been pretty zonked out since Tuesday because of said pain killers so I'd like to give y'all an update about the delay regarding art stuff. Hopefully on Sunday the antibiotics will have dealt with the bacteria and it won't hurt anymore so I can be back on track. If not well.. that's bad news and means it wasn't infected. :/
Trying to see how inking is with the Animator Pencil brush in Photoshop CC. =) I love this duo, they bring happiness to my FB Newsfeed.
Was a lot of fun to have a day to just get some sketches out of my system. =)
More work on commission stuff. ^_^
Something new - I added credits to the end of this video thanking all of this month's patrons. =) I used whatever name showed up under 'Patrons' but if you saw it and want to go under a different name in the future, just let me know.
Yeah, I'm pretty nitpicky about inks. XD I've been kickin' butt getting stuff done this week. There's still 9 days left in the month I feel like I can knock out most of what I owe without burning out. I've been doing 3-4 hour stream chunks instead of 8 hours at once so I can get up and stretch. It's probably better for me anyway!
If I did art tutorials, what are you guys most curious about learning?
I'm working on some graphics for my Twitch. Also, great news, I'm now an Affliate on Twitch! Peeps can cheer me with Bits (1 cent per Bit), subscribe and receive a custom made emoticon to use (working on it), and hopefully later down the road I can become a Partner.
I'm trying to make Twitch my main streaming platform (outside of mature artworks) so if you haven't already, feel free to subscribe to my channel and get notifications every time I stream. twitch.tv/dodgyrom
By the way - I haven't figured out the Patreon-only stream yet. I might just have to do the $15 a month for Premium just for you guys, lol.
I don't know why, but I've had this imagine in my head for the longest time. Just another doodle in the pile to work on between stuff.
This To Do list will be featured in my stream as an overlay, where I can put text inside that lists what I'm working on. Nifty, huh?
In the .PSD there are two hidden layers which show the added micros and dirt from her stompin' on them (pretty much just stick figures for the implication) on her soles. :)
More Patreon reward catchup!
Been a busy red pandraccoon over here.
Also, about the Patreon-only streams, turns out you need Premium on Picarto to do those - which is $15 a month, yikes!
In this stream I inked two new Kahuna Thrill Riders, Cecile Gator and Robert Panda. Then I did some more work on the members of the furry band Knothole. I managed to get some more work done on the Country Bear Jamboree characters Buff, Melvin, and Max - they are fun to draw and I can't wait to put some color on them.
Just some doodles for friends (and a random Old Spice Wolfthorn) I work on in between stuff. =D Making sure I hit 'record' so I can get a timelapse of this.
TIMELAPSE LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEVuyzHOLng
Hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's Day! Give ALL the love to everyone! Here are two pics I did for some awesome peeps, plus a link to the timelapse video of me inking them. I forgot to record the coloring of the second picture in this post, so sorry about that. I'm sure I'll be posting plenty more coloring timelapse videos this year.
Attached is both the clean and NSFW versions of one of the Valentine's cards in full-resolution, both 8 x 11". I also did two versions of Seraphon's Valentine's card, one with black lines and one with colored lines. The difference is very subtle but adds some dimension I think.
In the .PSD file of the image below, to see the NSFW details, in the Layers panel - click the eye icon to hide 'inks CLEAN' and 'color CLEAN' and click the eye icon button next to 'inks NSFW' and 'color NSFW' to make them visible.
If you have any questions, post below.
The polls have spoken. The next Patron-only stream will be on Sunday around 1pm CST. So that's not *too* early for people a bit west of me, and a bit later in the evening for people in Europe n' such.
A doodle I did for National Pizza day, yummy! =)
Thinking of streaming on days that work best for my Patrons. Let me know which day works best for you guys in the polls.
Can't wait to fill these with color! Only you guys get to see my messy, rough inks up close, haha.
My latest Japanese cuteness obsession. I love drawing anime-style characters in a more Western style. Like Pokemon n' such!
Feels good to be drawing again. I'm trying to experiment with how I draw fur.
I'm still trying to maneuver my schedule around and make sure I have plenty of time to draw, do everything I need to at home and get to the gym.
I'll be playing more catchup this week (two Valentine's pics on priority) so if I owe you something, stay tooned!
I'm going to try to keep this short as possible. I've been seeing primary and specialty doctors several times since November. My body hasn't been cooperating with me especially this past year. I have all the symptoms of an endocrine disorder - extreme fatigue, brittle hair and nails, greying hair (and I'm in my 20's mind you), dry skin, chronic upset stomach, yada yada. It has impacted my ability to do.. pretty much anything. I was feeling like garbage all the time.
This past month has been focused on my health aside from my recent trip. I apologize for the hiatus but I can't keep feeling like I had been. I have another appointment in mid-February, I just recently did saliva and urine labs and I probably will have to stay overnight in a lab soon.
On the bright side, this means I'll be the art machine I once was when we get this under control. And I really can't thank you guys enough for sticking by me and I totally understand the people who unpledged. I know I need to be and do better.
PLEASE READ THIS, I AM NOT TAKING JANUARY REWARDS FOR $20+ TIERS SO IF YOU PLEDGE FOR THOSE REWARDS PLEASE ALTER YOUR PLEDGE, OR ELSE I WILL HAVE TO REFUND YOU AT A LOSS FOR ME BECAUSE OF THE PAYMENT PROCESSING FEES.
Heh, makin' an update while I have a cold. Hope this will make sense.
After a bit of thought, I decided to take out the $20 and $30 rewards. Since Patreon takes a 5% chunk, then Paypal takes out another ~3% chunk when it transfers to my account, this might've not been the best option for me to give as a reward, especially monthly.
Also, it doesn't make sense to me to pile on new pics when I already have a backlog, and it's not fair to YOU, as my Patrons. My attempt was to put priority on Patron art while doing commissions, but that did not go over well.
I have $5 and $10 pledges now that offer discounts on commissions. Hopefully this works out better for me and people who want to support me. As much as I love my regulars to death, this option also gives new people a chance to commission me, as I will now take things on a first-come basis.
I have not done a good job at organizing my time this year and I am very sorry. I sadly might be a little late with Xmas pics for everyone - this past weekend I had my birthday party, Tuesday was my bday and since then I have been under the weather.
Hope everyone has a Merry Xmas and a wondrous New Year. I hope to bring on the new year with a fresh slate.
Poor Lishka, got caught being too silly-sloshed - but maybe Molly won't have the last laugh? ^^
Trying to put more work into my backgrounds. I thought this one needed one to set a funny scene. For Seraphon - will be worked on more very soon.
Streaming from 5pm CST to 9pm CST or a bit later.
Patreon reward I wanted to color and practice backgrounds on. More to come soon. ;)
In this Discord channel my goal is to help people improve their art by giving tips and/or redlining their work and hopefully push them in the right direction. I'm no expert, but I hope I can help with the knowledge I have acquired.
Please use the 'art-related' channel for your posts related to critique requests. You are free to use the general channel for chit chat about anything. =)
NSFW warning for some more intimate arts in this timelapse.
Just a fun personal project I may turn into stickers. I looove the game so far. =) Here's a sneak peek. I won't be posting these publicly until I have at least 15 stickers ready.
What's going on?
“Starting on December 18th, a new service fee of 2.9% + $0.35 will be paid by patrons for each individual pledge,”
Basically, before now, Patreon was taking a big portion of creators' money from pledges, some for themselves and some for processing fees (5% for them, between 7 - 15% for fees), which meant that creators pretty much had to give 20% of their pledges back to Patreon. However, many creators were okay with this because it meant that people who couldn't give a lot of money could give what they could.
They are now giving the processing fee to the supporters. This means that, if you were giving a dollar, you'll be giving 1.38 and 5 dollars becomes 5.50 and so on.
It's extremely important to note that the 35 cent "processing fee" is being charged per pledge. If you, as a supporter, have three $1 pledges you pay an additional 35 cents on each one rather than 35 cents on your overall charge. That's more than covering any negligible processing fee, and the substantial overage is going straight towards Patreon's profits.
All this does is pad Patreon and credit card company coffers and punish the people on the lowest tiers, the people who may be on very strict budgets and can barely afford to support the people they care about supporting.
This upset some creators because, while they didn't love the amount of money they had to lose per pledge, they knew that some people don't have a lot to spend and this price rise could be hard for them (especially of they are supporting multiple creators). I mean, if you could only give a dollar before, adding 38 cents to that could be hard.
Many patrons have already taken their departure. More will follow, and I understand if you must go. Please know I'm very thankful for your past support. To those who intend to stay, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Meant to post this like.. last month or so. XD This shows my inking process, coloring and some shading! =) More to come.
What a freaking month. Honestly I wish I could hit the rewind button and redo it. I was put on a medication that made me a zombie for a week, let's just say I stopped that medication after I started seeing shadow people, eek!!
Then I had another doctor's appointment in the middle of the month and they're finally figuring out what's wrong with me! I'm finally getting answers and treatment soon.
Also, a reminder to send your Patreon reward ideas (+ free Christmas art extra for all Patrons) to [email protected] ;) The pics will be delivered via Patreon on Christmas. See previous post if you're confused.
2018 should be a FRESH slate with everything done and priority on Patrons.
Thanks for stickin' around.
4,200 pixels by 3,300 pixels, gotta fit all those critters in there somehow! =)
Hope you all have or have had a wonderful Halloween! Sad that October went by so fast.
Pic is starring: foxlover91, FNLooney/ Looney Skunk, UrbanSaint/Snickerdoodle, Matt Otter, Lishka (me!), and OtherRickFox!
Hope all of you guys have an amazing Halloween! =)
For Xmas (and a super early advance notice) I'm offering free 1-character arts for every Patron regardless of pledge level to show my thanks. I think a month and a half will give me enough time to complete them all. If you wanted to add another character just ask and I'll give ya a discount.
Whenever you see this, go ahead and send your idea to [email protected]
Da sooner the better!
Thanks so much. More process videos coming soon.
I always love it when other people give me general guidelines and let me design their character off of those guidelines. It's a lot of fun! Here's a work in progress and sneak peek image. I am using the brush Finer than Fine from KyleBrush.com - it's becoming one of my favorite inking brushes. I believe it's $9 for the whole pack of inking brushes.
Here is my icon for the Autumn season, the video timelapse includes the sketch, to inks, colors, and color layer adjustments. I use d the inking brush 'Finer than Fine' from Kylebrush.com's Inkbox pack. Also included is the full-res .PSD file so you can see how I use layers when I work.
I usually always keep a layer filled with black on top of everything, set to 'color' so I can always check my values from time to time.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
Overdue Patreon reward! Here's the full-res pic! =)
I am working my tush off trying to play catch-up alongside other things in my life. Thanks for your patience.
To keep my sea of e-mails which I use to try track of everything commission-related to a reasonable minimum, here's the link to my Trello which has my schedule and what I'm working on/plan to work on here, and updates if there are any delays.
I labelled all the layers so you can see how I handle shadow and things like rim light. Rim light adds an extra 'oomph', I use it along the shadow's edge. I also use color adjustments on top of nearly the entire image to balance out the colors. It's also good to have a layer full of black on top, set to the 'Color' blend mode in the drop down list in the Layers panel, and slide the opacity up to 100% to check your values and make sure the colors are not too similar to each other - which can make the image look flat because different elements seem to blend in with each other.
In the Toxicoow_desaturated file above, you can see a clear distinction in value from the lion's mane, main fur color and face/tummy color. It is a great design! Lishka on the right has a lot of near-black balanced with the lighter grey value of her fur, but it is balanced out by her muzzle and cheek floofs. Honestly after looking at it again, I think I *could* make her hoodie a tad bit brighter so it doesn't have the same value of her fur. It's an easy fix, however! =)
With the way my layers are set up, I could simply use the Magic Wand tool in the Toolbar to select all of the green in the hoodie, then use CTRL + U to get to the Hue/Saturation, then use the sliders under Lightness to enhance the brightness of the hoodie - and also if need be, use the slider under Saturation so it doesn't lose color.
Be sure afterwards to keep checking with the desaturation layer (the one filled with black and set to Color).
Also yes, I do put the whiskers on one layer, because it's a pain in the butt if I want to fix something on the Ink layer in the whisker area - it just makes life easier to have them on a separate layer. =P
The rectangular background is something new I'm trying, to avoid the characters simply 'floating' in a void of white space (which I am guilty of a lot). I kept the colors brighter than the general values in the characters so they don't blend in with the background. All I did was create a square, filled it with blue and added a gradient of a different color (in this instance, orangey-pink) with the Gradient tool in the Toolbar. I selected the square, then with holding down CTRL, I can stretch each corner to make a unique shape. Since Toxicoow is much bigger than Lishka, I decided to skew the background square to have a higher height than Toxi above Lishka. For me it added to the balance of the picture.
What is also good to keep in mind is the balance of negative and positive shapes in the space. The negative space is the white, and positive is black. It was more difficult with larger, full-bellied characters whose arms are within their body mass, but it is the most clear with Toxicoow. Just by looking at this silhouette, with the negative space between his arm and pizza slice, you can get a general idea of the pose going on.
Looking at Lishka's silhouette, I could've made it more clear that she is using a bottle of sauce to put on her pizza. Her silhouette is less clear and if I drew this again I would extend the pizza slice into the negative space between her and Toxicoow.
Phew. Yeah, a LOT goes into thinking about full color pictures. I hope to share a lot more with you guys - I hope this stuff is helpful. It is also a good review for myself to see what I can improve on. Let me know in the comments.
Much love,
Alishka/dodgyrom
Hey all! Things on my end have been.. um, well they could be better. To be honest I've been struggling with personal issues dealing with health on my end I don't want to divulge too much here. It's gotten to the point where I haven't been able to keep up with life as much as I'd like to and it's really frustrating, I have personal art (as well as commissions) sitting from all the way back in June that I want to finish. I've taken only a couple of commissions since then outside Patreon since I don't want a huge backlog.
In September I should be getting the care I need as well as a journey to regain my health. Looking forward to not being in pain half the time.
Thank you for your patience with everything and your support.
My summer trips are over so that means I've been working a lot more without the distractions of packing and the like, trying to put in 6+ hour days drawing. I also have studies to do for my workshop so I've been one busy trash panda. =P
Thanks all for stickin' around - and if you have ANY requests for tutorial ideas, leave a comment below!
You can see at first my main concern was getting the basic body parts where I wanted them. I didn't actually have a specific idea in mind for this guy. A basic grasp of an animal's skeletal structure will help you more easily interpret the pose of the animal, because a lot of the time it's hard to see parts of the body underneath all the fur.
A good idea is to compare skeletons of the animal you want to draw vs a similar animal (cat skeleton vs dog skeleton and try to compare and contrast differences).
Then, coupled with the model sheets of Balto and All Dogs Go to Heaven, I took stylistic notes on drawing the limbs, paws, and face. Reference sheets are also very helpful as they often show the underlying, simplified forms that make up the character. But IMO, it's better to start with studying from real-life, then you can break the rules. ;)
I always like to 'flip' the drawing horizontally to keep the anatomy in check. Pro-tip. =)
So here's the first tutorial for you guys! I'm not a master of cartooning by any means, but here's how I started learning - from starting off simple like this and utilizing simple shapes to build characters. =) With these tutorials I hope you give you more insight about how I personally draw.
My sketches are wayyy more rough, but I tried to tie them down a bit more for visual clarification purposes.
I hope this first tutorial isn't too confusing as I'm new to doing tutorials. Also, if you have any questions, feel free to ask in a comment here.
I may add a Part 3 to add more examples of simplifications in form. There's just so much in the basics! The next part will probably be about using simple shapes in different angles.
Meant to type it on Sunday. Been feeling a bit under the weather this week so things have been slower with classwork and commissions. But I am working on two different tutorials - how to animate in Photoshop and a basic toon drawing tutorial. Stay tooned!
Been messing around with my sketch pencil brushes. I've also been thinking of doing 'stream sketches' where you can get a sketch like this for $15 per character and they'd be completed in the same night in the stream. Thoughts?
I have most people's ideas for July's Patreon inks.
I also am almost finished with a few late ones from earlier months, so I changed my Patreon policy so that once payments are processed (usually by the 5th of each month), I will work on Patreon inks first instead of the middle of the month to avoid delays.
I am hoping to provide tips/tutorials twice a month that all Patrons will get to see! The topics for this month involve the basics of cartooning (or at least, how I do it).
Once all payments have been processed, the new monthly raffle (1-char ink) will begin and I will message the winner via Patreon.
Thanks guys! <3
A public video, but I plan to publish more videos just for Patrons. =) Enjoy!
Phew, been putting in some hours getting stuff done this week! If I still owe ya something, you'll be getting it very soon. =)
Don't forget to send ideas to [email protected] for July if you haven't already! And $30 Patrons can choose between 2-character inks or 1 character flat color.
Please see my page to check out the new reward changes. I'm also thinking about adding $10 rough sketches.
Thanks! =)
Hey y'all.
I feel like I'm undercharging myself, so starting July, one char inks will be for $20 Patrons and 2-char inks are being moved to $30.
My sketches are pretty messy, but I am thinking about offering those for those who do not want to spent $20 a month on Patreon.
I've raised my prices on regular commissions recently to match how much I've improved, so it's still quite a deal. =)
Thoughts?
I had an idea for rewards and I figure anyone pledging $2 or more a month will get access to tutorials on how to do stuff in Photoshop or Flash, or just how to draw stuff. Well this post is up to you - what would you guys like to see in a tutorial from me? =)
How to render my Totoro piece. ONLY for Patrons. Thank you!
This includes the .PSD file that shows how I layer things, and a very close look at the details up close.
Feel free to edit it how you wish!
Be sure to send your 1 character ($10 Patron) or 2-character ($15 Patron) ink ideas to my e-mail, [email protected] as soon as you can! I try to do them in the middle of the month, so the sooner the better. Thank you! =)
Still have two $15 Patrons to catch up from May, so expect those soon. Thank you.
A full-res flat color commish + the .PSD file if you wonder how I color things. =P
I only post low-res to the public web, but here's the full sized version. Love that pencil texture! Also added it as an attachment in case the image version doesn't show the full version.
Full-res April Patreon sketches attached. =)
Don't forget if you pledged this month to shoot me an e-mail at [email protected] with your 1-char sketch idea.
Also it's totally fine if you want to keep them private. Just let me know.
You can also stack them - say you want 2 characters in a pic, I'll just use two months of Patronage. Still discounted! Whoo!
Thanks all, hope to have a lot in store this year. =D
Full resolution image of my Penny painting. She is a character from Awesomenauts, one of my favorite games, even though it is a pretty dead game with only ~300-400 max players playing at one single time.
It's still addicting though. ;)
You can see all the nitty gritty painting details in this one. =) Things look a lot cleaner zoomed out huh? LOL
Will be posting more soon!
Example of an inked pic, which you can get every month for 30% off by becoming a patron.
