Can i have your attention for the following things what have been on my mind lately on this website.

It seems like many Pawsru members having trouble with the Website nowday´s or just dislike it.
I have been talking to some people around what the reasons would be and i have noticed a few things like:
-Capcha / annoying to post
-Activity / lack of members
-Old / Not up to date

I wondered if this 3 topics are bothering the rest of the users of Pawsru.
And what could Pawsru do to make this a better place? (or me)

i just removed 8 Spam/Child porn pictures trough Pawsru today.
I dont mind to do something about that if people would just upload without no worries.
Maybe some limit to new threads would be sweet.
But in general would be sweet if evrybody around could just upload pages of comics without doing the capcha.

I just went trough the boards to check spam/dead threads and i saw many people being to lazy/annoyed by the capcha to upload artwork/comics cause it´s a hell of a job.

I don't know if it would work...
but.
Something like this:

* You start a new thread - Have to solve the captcha;
* IF you reply your own thread, you can reply without solving it again.
* After a time limit. (30 minutes?) you have to solve another one to get more time.
* Replying to other posts require solving it again.

Limiting a number of new threads probably would help too.

If you want to continue doing things yourself though, I would look into implementing optical recognition on uploads rather than the hash based duplicate detection. What happens is essentially any image that is uploaded is changed in size and then converted to grey-scale. Then the resulting image has its color values averaged in areas. This will detect duplicate images based on the actual content rather than a hash which has massive change with even a single character change. With some more work you can work out a percentage of how much matches and then accept/deny based on that. This is usually the method used when doing image to image searches.

I'm looking at different options as far as I can tell it nothing really beats Kusaba in terms of a board and it's set-up so my only issue is security but there doesn't seem to be much to do when someone actually wants to take the time to fight with recaptcha. I can do hash no problem but it doesn't take much to get a new one around the corner. Also I have been doing IP range bans for what it's worth to stop the usual proxies. It's what little I can do.

The optical libraries base it on averages, not an absolute value. You could recolor the entire picture and it would still be able to be determined. And considering you filled out captchas manually (lol, fail) it would work. Just do >75% match and deny.

- Stop wasting your time with IP bans. They became useless in the 90s. Unless you make a scraping bot to grab all the proxies everyday from proxy sites, it does fuck all.

Just don't delete old threads. Remove page limit, hide threads that move past 10th page, but still display them through manage page, so mods can clean up every few days.
