A lot of 3d users start out with daz3d/poser. Daz3d was free for a while at their website but i think that deal is over :( Be warned though, 3d art is about 10x harder than 2d art, and like the poster above said, has a steep learning curve, which is why we don't see a lot of it. The poser manual alone is 800 pages, and most of it is general usage. For in depth usage on things like creating your own models, you'll have to look to other tutorials. Another thing you have to be concerned about is you have to buy some models to start out (but like most of us there's places to download them for free). Most 3d artists also learn photoshop or some other photo-editing/paint program to do postwork, which is fixing up and adding stuff to your 3d renders. Good luck!
