The photoshop file is 308MB...wow, the biggest I've ever made. Why? I got pretty generous with my layers. I was trying to use cell-shading to save time and be more simplistic....instead I went into detail....each fur color on both characters has its own layer for shading, lighting and middle shading. The underwear have their own 3 layers., the eyes are rocking 3 layers of shading and lighting. The Background is like omg...so many layers. Long story short, lots of layers.
I only had a few goals going into this picture:
- make some underwear designs that could fit into the theme of spring/easter
- begin to incorporate backgrounds that effect the characters (e.i how the grass is not just behind the characters but comes in front at times.).
- learn cell-shading to make my art go faster...obviously i learned it....but faster...not quite....eventually i'll get it down. It was also really slow b/c this file got so big it made photoshop super slow
- get this BlackHeart project actually somewhat on a roll. I must say, i think i've got it rolling, even if the roll is currently a snail's pace. This now my third BlackHeart picture (2 posters and one cover) I have another cover currently in progress for April. The way i'd like to see these start going out is 2 every month: one poster and one magazine cover. This will be the first month of that. Woot
Okay, lets look at the goods of this picture:
Well in my last pic i just tried to use cell shading for i was simplistic with it. I added little. Yes it worked but this time i really pushed myself to have way more. I'm pretty happy with this. It turned out a lot better than i'd expected for the hair. Hair is one of the hardest things for my to figure out lighting and shading for. Here it was actually really easy. The background isn't superb...but I really like it. Especially the way the grass fades to dark purple and this kind of camouflages itself. Oh, I drew one whole foot in this pic. The funny this is its covered mostly by grass but hey, i actually drew it. I didn't need to apparently but oh well.
Hmm... time to look at the shit:
Well, well i'll just say this, I'm still not sure wtf to do for lighting quite often. Something about the way it sits on the shoulders doesn't feel right....The faces, well i went with what i thought made since but idk if its right. The tail looks weird b/c it has so much light that it looks like i just gave it one layer of shading instead of the opposite: it has one giant layer of light. The lighting and shading on the gray character was hard b/c the dark fur when lit, resembles the unshaded lighter fur, and the shaded light fur looks like the dark fur. Was so freaking annoying b/c they all had to be slightly different colors for shading in order to make sure they looked different enough. Aside from that....Uhm.... idk.
