Jasper's apprenticeship was under a master armorer called Apollos. The orphan needed a place to stay, and the older stallion wanted a ward, an assistant for his newly minted shop in Diamond City. He picked the cub out of a list of prospective hires that answered his "Help wanted" ad in the Publick Occurences newspaper.
The adult equine picked him out of the lot not for his technical abilities, but for his shape and size which he found very tempting: their relationship would be mutually beneficial, as the cub was very willing to offer his body in exchange for the knowledge imparted by the expert armorer.
During the day, Jasper would serve as an assistant and clerk in the Armaments' Store, while retiring with his master at night to the shed where they slept and kept each other warm. The little cub spent many an evening stuck to his master's body, impaled by the stallion's enormous shaft until Apollos was calm enough to teach him other skills.
