This is usually not a big issue, as they keep a well stocked reserve in their den for rainy days. But it's been three days in a row tonight, and the three siblings reunite under a somber roof, examining their last rations. What changed? Why are the pickings so slim lately? Only Bernard is finding anything, and that is purely because he maintains a trading route with a human down the road.\n\nKnowing full well what will happen next, Chester reluctantly reveals what he was afraid to show Eddie a few days ago: he leads his brothers a few hundred meters along the canal, and points at the hole he discovered next to a tree. The scent immediately hits the siblings' noses: another Racoon nest. A whole family, by the noises coming out of it. And there is a smell of food, too. \n\nBernard and Chester like to avoid confrontation, but Eddie immediately goes from zero to eleven. As his brothers go back to their den, unwilling to participate, Eddie gallops towards the nest screaming. He doesn't need the element of surprise here, he's fought hundreds of battles and won many of them. \n\nPopping out of his family's den, a brown-fur racoon male faces the charging soldier, screaming too, but Eddie can see the look of terror in his eyes: he's outmatched and he knows it - Eddie is larger and stronger. One strong bite on the neck from Eddie's jaw is enough, the male jumps away, whining and crying, then starts running for his life, abandoning his nest. Eddie does not pursue, he has more pressing issues: another Racoon has joined the fray, an adult female. This one fights much more fiercely, and does not give up during the first blows: Eddie and the female are evenly matched, at least in fury. She bites and claws, Eddie pushes and charges, she dodges and screams, Eddie grapples her and they roll down and down the hill, until they're fighting by the canal. It becomes an endurance race, to Eddie's advantage as the female's adrenaline rush is quickly coming to an end. Her movements slow down, and our soldier can more easily dodge her attempts to bite him. One final time, she tries to bull rush him, and he simply pushes her into the canal, the flow of water taking her away to an unknown fate.\n\nTired but exhilarated, Eddie climbs back up towards the enemy den, looking to plunder it. Once he reaches the hole and takes a look inside, he finds why the female fought him so fiercely: A litter. Two small female kits look up towards him, terrified. They can wait. He passes by them to get to the family's food reserves, and finds what he's looking for: a pile of discarded human food, fruits, nuts.
