It sloped down to where Izzy figured was the ‘pulpit,’ if it was a traditional Earth church, so she figured they had entered from the back on the side. The raised platform from where Izzy guessed an important figure would ‘preach’ stood a statue of Melissa, looking not much older than Izzy, above which were two leaping dolphins forming an asymmetrical heart over a banner that hung over Melissa’s head. The language on the banner Izzy had no clue, not even recognizing a single character. \n There were ‘pews,’ but only a single row, and along the back walls. It didn’t resemble a church, entirely, but at the same time that’s how it [i]felt.[/i] There was a scent similar to lavender, [i]kinda,[/i] and chamomile, [i]in a way.[/i] Izzy’s ears picked up an ambient, background sound, just audible above the silence like a pleasant hum. It was like a very stretched out and slowed saxophone or some collection of horns playing one long, slow chord, just hanging there. It was the most beautiful place Izzy had ever seen. \n In nearly every mural, every ornate detail, every scene in stained glass window there were those little winged dolphins, looking almost like angels. Izzy turned to look again at the dolphin that greeted them and led them there. [i]just how important were these guys?[/i]\n The dolphin greeter stopped, turning to bow and gesture the way through along with familiar hand signals. Izzy giggled, trying to stifle it. Becky’s ears twitched with a hint of annoyance.\n “yes, we’re on our way to see the head priest, nevin.” Becky walked to a door, knocked and turned to face away from it. “everyone turn around.” She said.\n “turn yourself around, coon.” Tay hissed, “when the fuck do we eat?” Becky clamped two fingers, instantly causing Tay to start struggling and mumbling, touching his mouth. An older, warm voice greeted them.\n “Rebecca, welcome, welcome.” Izzy peeked over her shoulder to see Becky turn.\n “Hello, High Priest Nevin.” She said, finally returning to a voice, indicating to the others that it was okay to turn as well. An elder badger in robes, similar to Fennish and the other dignitaries, stood in the doorway smiling and holding up a paw. He had glasses and a big warm smile.\n “Just Nevin is fine, Rebecca.” He said, beginning to scan all eyes on him, but looked past Izzy with some kind of concern. “You may turn around, son, please.” He said, leading the group to see Tay still facing away from the door. Jules, next to him, tapped his shoulder, pointing once he looked at her. He silently turned forward. “What were you doing?” Nevin asked.\n “I was teaching them tradition, sir.” Becky said, “The old Stenish way of showing respect to someone at their door.” Nevin smiled and waved a paw.\n “That turning at the door tradition is fairly antiquated, yes? Just your presence here is respect enough.” He continued, walking back into his ‘office,’ Izzy guessed. Tay looked at the others, shrugging. Maybe he was starting to feel a bit humbled by the place, Izzy figured. “Come in, children; come in.” \n Becky stood a bit still, probably feeling a little sting of the moment not turning into what she expected. Jules pranced by, whispering to the raccoon, “told ya he fancied me…” Just as fast as Becky physically responded to the words, Jules was far from her, the sneer of ‘next time’ on Becky’s teeth. The group sat down and listened as Nevin explained the ritual.\n Izzy tried her best to follow what Nevin said would take place during the bonding, though some of it she understood. She knew it would be over the course of 3 days, which on Ireos were about 29 Earth hours, 17 Earth minutes long each. Izzy was glad Becky’s phone at least was able to switch to Irean time, even during flux, and counted time in Earth hours alongside what Becky called ‘Irean Hours,’ explaining how the time keeping was a completely different concept from Earth, involving calculations between the two moons of Ireos and their relation to the local star that went over Izzy’s head. So, to the kids, the ritual would be on and off for roughly 87 hours, 51 minutes Earth time, thankful for the time free between ‘segments.’ \n They were going to spend nights in a hotel meant for royalty, dignitaries and holy figures, very nice and very fancy. Becky was lending the twin couple her own hotel suite while she and Jules too lesser, but still high-end suites nearby. Izzy was relieved; she wouldn’t have to spend any nights apart from Tay. Izzy was reminded of Tokyo, New York City, Seattle, Sydney, any large cities of multiple cultures and customs, but it felt… better, cleaner. The platform slowed as it approached a station on the edge of the gardens. The platform stopped in a room behind glass, which opened with a whoosh of cold air. Izzy suddenly felt very glad to be wearing essentially a hoodie as she could tell now that it was snowing outside. “Oooh, snow!” Jules exclaimed.\n “Were we not…” Izzy looked back as they deboarded the platform, “I thought we were already outside.” Crowds somewhat similar to those on the Cruz Vacia passed by, some loading onto the platform and other platforms, some clustering around each other, talking, some exiting just as Izzy and friends were, approaching the cold outside where the open city skyline was. At first, Izzy thought everything in the city was just white-capped, but then her eye caught something: a tiny movement of white; it really was [i]snow![/i] “It’s snowing!” she exclaimed before fully realizing she had spoken.\n “Yeah,” Becky started, “Ireos experiences seasons like winter, just as Earth does. Funny how similar it is from where we left home, huh?”\n “Wait, what do you mean ‘seasons [i]like[/i] winter?” Izzy asked, eyes darting from flying car-like things to floating traffic light-kinda things, “What else is there?”\n “Well, Ireos has a tilt like Earth, but it’s slightly more than Earth, allowing not just summer and winter and the in-between, transitional seasons fall and spring, but there are distinct…” Becky’s pause was accompanied by a slow eye roll of concentration, “‘shades’ of each season, even flip-flopping a few times, that’s when they get what I call ‘Reverse Spring’ and ‘Reverse Fall.’”\n “Ooh, what’re those like?”\n “When the spin causes the tilt to reverse, the season order reverses, so after winter would normally be spring as it warms up and life come out of hiding to begin again when, in a reversal year, summer turns back into a fall-like spring, messing with the biology of some species with the sudden, unexpected cold. High Priest Nevin and the Amorian Temple

        “I can’t believe we’re here to do your bonding, Izzy.” Becky said, shivering and looking around as the dolphin greeter led them through the enormous chamber with red velvet-y walls, a white marble-like floor and tall stained glass windows lining the walls that went all the way up to the ceiling, depicting scenes of Melissa doing various acts of either kindness, greatness, reverence and severe battle against dark looking entities.
