Flushed, Miranda nervously shuffled the papers. It wasn’t that Jules startled her; it was that...\n “Oh, heh, n-nothing. Just worrying that Mrs. Brussard will quiz us or something before we get out. "She had to go home?" Miranda asked. Brandy sat in her seat.
"Yeah, she was sent home!" She said. Miranda adjusted her glasses.
"Is she okay?" the concerned monkey girl asked.
"Dunno. She looked like she was in real pain." Brandy said. Miranda felt that she knew the reason why: her period. “The magician, the freak, the, uh...” Jules looked up, rolling her paw in a circular pattern, “she’s like one of our best friends in the whole wide world forever...”
“Becky?” Miranda said.
“Becky! Yeah, her! She went home with Izzy to make sure she’d be alright.” Jules said, smiling.
“They let her go, too?”
“Yeah, Mrs. Brussard has a soft spot for ‘suffering growing females’ and let Izzy’s bestest friend take care of her since Mrs. McIntosh wouldn’t be home.”
“Where’d they go?” Miranda asked, adjusting her glasses.
“I dunno. Some stupid historic society thing. They left this morning.” Jules said. Miranda thought about heading over to Izzy’s after school, maybe make her feel better with Becky, but then she thought maybe she should just let them be. Besides, she was far too busy with something else.
“Okay...” Mrs. Brussard said, standing up. Miranda looked at the clock; it was nearly time for class to start back up. “Well, I guess I’ll see ya next break!” Jules said, patting her friend’s back and bouncing back up to her desk. Miranda watched, staring at the back of the kangaroo girl’s head, wishing she could psychically convey a message, tell her something, say the thing she’d been wanting to say to Jules for a while now. Even though she figured she would screw it up or be too nervous, Miranda knew how she’d at least like to say it:
Jules, I like you. A lot.
