Originally, he was an almeer, a demi-human race from Larry Elmore's comic Snarfquest, which was published in Dragon Magazine back in the '80s (the only example of an almeer ever seen was a creature called Geezil). However, when I couldn't get permission to use the names of Elmore's races for a novel I was writing, I changed him to a kobold. He stands four feet tall, has big webbed ears and a flexible beaky snout, and his body is covered with fine golden fur.\nDenvil is a wizard who exhibited a talent for magic at a young age. When he was thirteen, he made the long and difficult journey from his small village of Rynoughu in the Red Mountains to Valek City, a great metropolis on the coast of Torkny Bay, to offer himself as an apprentice to the famous wizard Gartrist the Pantologist.
