I know a few of you were wondering if she'd ever get that kid out of there. Thanks Chai - it's wonderful. :)\n\n-- Begin Story Snippet --\n\nHolly took a deep breath and pushed with all of her might. It seemed like she was doing this forever, and the kid didn't seem to budge. The midwife looked on with a pleased, encouraging look as she says, \"This is the part you want to take it slow... just letting everything stretch\". \n\n'SLOW?!' Holly thought in a panic, 'how much slower can it be, I've been pushing forever and it hurts!' she almost whimpered, her expression almost speaking her thoughts. She remembered her reaction to seeing childbirth in her Lamaze class, and thinking 'No way... that can't fit down there, no way...\" and now she was in that situation, facing down just such a challenge.\n\nThe midwife very carefully massaged her intimate parts with her finger, as if to try to get Holly to stretch just a little more, before she says, \"...we don't have to stick with the 'no cutting' thing... it might help speed things up as this kid has a big head...\" with a slight grimace. The assistant looked on silently, petting Holly's left leg as she helped Holly hold it in the drawn up position.\n\nHolly whimpered and looked over at Tom, as if to ask permission. Tom noticed, and said, \"Oh no... it's not my body, I can't make that decision for you, love... I love you, and you can do this... and if you think it will help then don't let me tell you how to do this...\" He knew very well that she asked him to be the firm line on her wishes, but he hated seeing her suffer.\n\nHolly thought, and muttered, \"No...no...don't... don't wanna\" as the midwife nodded. Time and events seemed to run together, one push ran into the next, as the whole breath-push-stretch-relax-lather-rinse-repeat thing seemed to become the painful new 'normal'\n\nHolly wanted it all to end, for this kid to be born... or to at least wake up and find it all a bad dream... but then she'd be pregnant again, and no closer to meeting her child, no closer to fitting in her normal clothing, no closer to seeing her feet...  her thoughts drifted far before a baby's first cries snapped her back to the here and now.\n\n\"Wheeyyyaahh! Wheeyyyaahh! Wheeyyyaahh!\" she heard as her belly deflated like a souffle taken out of the oven too soon, her outtie navel falling back to a lazy innie as the midwife held up a crying, flailing, and very wet baby, \"Guess who's HERE!\" as she slipped the baby to Holly's outstretched hands, setting the baby on her belly.\n\nTom just watched, awe-struck, and just a little queasy. He had almost lost his lunch when seeing the birth in the Lamaze class, and that was on a television screen. He had just seen, and been a part of, the whole shebang in real life, in person, in living-breathing-stereo.
