One offers moral and emotional support while the other provides rational and sensible advise, which is a nice way to display key traits of both Amy and Tails that they are otherwise not really allowed to with Sonic due to how he is sometimes treated as \"too awesome to need help\".\n\nPersonally I don't ship them since I feel that their dynamic works much better as the big sister and younger brother, and keeps their relation in a much more innocent tone.\n\nFrankly, I think it was a mistake from Sega to not have done something with them, since it would not only had allowed Tails to be more than just the character that lives in the Shadow of Sonic, but also allowed Amy to be a more integral part of the main cast, as I think that Cream really never added anything that could not had been achieved by Tails... sometimes I think it was done just to keep Amy away so that Knuckles could be accomodated instead in this \"classic trio\" that to this very date I don't care, like nor find any sense, especially when it's not just the lack of interactions between Knuckles and Tails, but also the lack of a common ground that would give rise to a chemistry, let alone a bond. In contrast, I think Amy makes a more natural connection since she would care for Tails' well being, especially the emotional aspect since this is a kid that despite having found some self-esteem thanks to Sonic, can still be hurt by mean characters that mock him. Likewise, Tails would feel for Amy's (innocent) short-sighted attempts at gaining Sonic's affection, and while he might not fully understand what Amy goes through, he'd still sympathize and provide a friendly ear as well as advise. It would be interesting how they both share their thoughts and even their insecurities when it comes to where they stand in their respective relations with Sonic.\n\nAlso, just like that aspect, it would also be nice to see them work together to help Sonic on his adventures to stop Dr. Eggman. Both characters are more than capable to look after themselves (something Sonic Team seems to forget an awful lot of the times... probably because they don't want for the action to be shared by non special super-powered snowflake character that turn Super Saiyan) but they also have things of their own that would be nice to see shine again, like Amy's determination despite the odds, Tails doing actual smart thinking to solve things that can't be won through force, etc. But most importantly, is seeing them being brave by having the courage to overcome fear, since only the brave ones feel fear and carry on because they are driven to do the right thing...
