"description": "The sound of water gliding over Stella's body barely disturbed the still air as the mouse cut her way across the lake. She moved with finesse and grace, moving swiftly and surely through the tranquil water.\n\nThe presence of the lake was one of the main reasons Stella had agreed to come on this trip. Not that she had minded the idea of a fun getaway with her friends -- far from it. Hanging out in a cabin in the mountains, far from the distractions of civilization? Sign her up! But her main concern had been the swim meet in a few weeks, and nationals looming after that. She really couldn't afford to just take a whole week off of practice. So when her friend Chris had told her that the cabin was by a lake, where she could swim to her heart's content, she dove at the opportunity head first.\n\nThey had been true to their word about letting her have time to get some practice in, too. None of them teased her or bothered her for swimming every day. And this afternoon, when the rest of them had piled into Chris' truck to head down to the nearby town to grab more supplies, none had complained when she said she wanted to stay to get a few more laps in.\n\nIt was idyllic. The whole area was completely quiet except for the rustle of the trees. She couldn't imagine a better place and time for her to practice, free of distraction.\n\nShe was so \"in the zone\" regarding her swimming, she didn't notice the dark shape moving through the water at first. She was about halfway across the lake when she spotted it. She came to a stop, catching her breath and treading water.\n\nAs the shape got closer, Stella realized it was another swimmer. An otter. She was wearing a pair of swim trunks, her slender figure slicing through the water with ease.\n\nStella furrowed her brow. The lake was technically a public space, but this was the first time she had even seen anyone else out here. Where had she come from? Had she parked near the cabin? Or was there another approach to the lake she wasn't aware of? It was definitely possible; Stella didn't know the surrounding area that well. She had thought that she and her friends' group was alone up here, but maybe they had neighbors.\n\nWhile Stella was thinking, the otter had gotten quite a bit closer. A disconcerting thought seized Stella's chest. The otter wasn't just swimming in her general direction: she was swimming straight at her. And while otter's weren't the biggest predators out there, they were still predators!\n\nThe thought of the otter licking her lips raced across Stella's mind.\n\nSwallowing hard, Stella turned and started to swim back towards the cabin.\n\nThe splashing of her strokes filled the now oppressive silence. She threw everything she could into her swimming, trying to stay focused. She couldn't let her technique slip just because she was panicked. She had to move as fast as possible.\n\nShe chanced a glance back. The otter was gaining.\n\nThe otter wasn't even doing a traditional stroke. She was just undulating her body, almost casually, her thick tail thrashing back and forth through the water, and still she gained. Stella could see an excited look in the otter's eye. A look of anticipation.\n\nStella looked forward again. The cabin seemed so far away.\n\nShe gave it everything she had. She threw her arms forward with all her strength, scooping up great handfuls of water to throw herself forward across the lake. But her lungs were on fire, and every muscle was burning. She wouldn't be able to keep up this rate for much longer, but she wouldn't have to. She just had to make it to the shore.\n\nShe glanced back again. The otter was gone.\n\n..Did she give up?\n\nOf course she had. Of course she had. So what if she's an otter? So what if they weren't even allowed to swim in the same competitions as Stella. Stella's the three-time champion in her circuit! All that oily fur and natural ability couldn't hold a candle to years of practice, toned muscle, and finely-honed technique.\n\nThat otter never stood a chance.\n\n... Right?\n\nThen Stella felt a hand wrap around her ankle.\n\nShe let out a loud squeal, a sound that was almost immediately cut off as she suddenly vanished beneath the surface of the water.\n\n--------\n\nChris grinned to himself as he heaved the cooler off the back of his truck. \"Mission success!\" The feline shouted. \"This'll be the best evening of the trip, you mark my words!\"\n\n\"Well, you bought enough beer for it,\" Gavin said, with a wry smirk.\n\n\"Hey, you can't have a vacation without beer!\" Chris retorted. As he started to walk towards the cabin, he glanced back at the squirrel. \"Hey Michelle, would you mind heading over to the lake to see if Stella is still swimming while me and Gavin take the stuff in?\"\n\n\"Sure, I don't mind! Anything to get out of physical labor!\" The squirrel grinned as she bounded around the cabin to head towards the lake.\n\nMeanwhile, Chris and Gavin carried everything inside. As Chris set the cooler on the kitchen counter, he noticed Gavin looking at him. The wolf raised an eyebrow.\n\n\"So, you think if you have enough beer you can score tonight?\" Gavin asked.\n\nChris felt his cheeks flush. \"It's not about 'scoring.' Stella is just... in her own head all the time. Like, she's really into her swimming, and that's great, but I want to help her loosen up. You know, open up a little. That's what beer is for, right? I've got no intentions of letting anyone get wasted.\"\n\nGavin chuckled. \"Yeah, good luck with that, man. I know you've been interested in Stella for a while.\"\n\n\"Yeah, well, maybe this trip will be the chance to finally get her to notice me,\" Chris responded.\n\n\"Um... guys!?\"\n\nChris stiffened. That had been Michelle's voice, coming from outside, near the lake.\n\nChris and Gavin both rushed out. They found Michelle standing by the shore. She was holding something in her hands, what looked like two pieces of purple fabric. Chris was panting by the time he reached her.\n\nMichelle help up her hands, both dripping with water. \"I... I found them by the shore,\" she stammered. \"They had just... washed up there.\"\n\nHanging from Michelle's fingers were both pieces of Stella's bathing suit.\n\n\n-----\n\nI'm in the middle of moving at the moment, so I've been very busy, but I managed to put a little picture together on my phone! Like a few others, this one was done entirely on the phone. And I pounded out a little story for it, too! Hope you enjoy!",
