He walked in, shut the door then leaned against it. His eyes closed and a sigh escaped his mouth.\n\n\t“Bubba!” A voice sounded out causing him to open his eyes. He smiled down at the young foal standing in front of him. He squatted down and she wrapped around his neck. He hugged her back and kissed her short muzzle.\n\tShayla, his sister, is a seven year old foal. Her coat is mostly off white. On her chest is a single large brown spot. The spot covered her chest completely, from her breasts to just above her belly button, it stopped on her sides. If her arms were down to her side, just an inch of white would be seen. Her hind legs were also brown, but her hooves were white. She has emerald green eyes. Her hair white and brown mixed. Her hands were brown but her fingers were white. \t“You’re silly bubba,” she replied. He put his paws on her hips and wiggled her body a little bit, causing her to giggle agains.
\t“I love you Shayla,” he said.
\t“Love you too Jadjay,” she replied and hugged him. He patted her butt and told her to go play with Onai and Luna. Jaden stood up and watched her run out of the living room heading towards the stairs. He headed towards the kitchen and smiled at Willow.
\t“You’re going to make a great father one day,” she said.
\t“You giving me that offer?” He asked smirking.
\t“Haaaa, don’t push your luck Jadjay,” she replied and winked.
\t“I have no idea why she calls me that. It’s not often, maybe a once or twice a day, all other times it’s bubba,” he replied.
\t“She’s happy to be around you,” she replied.
\t“Yeah, she is. I’m more of a father to her than our own father is. I guess that would make me more of a mother too,” he replied.
\t“Well to me, it seems like you’re doing a great job raising her,” she replied.
\t“I try my best. I don’t have a job and don’t get allowance from my parents. But I do take enough money from them to cover the costs for stuff she needs. On rare occasions for items that I want. I take their debit card to buy groceries and clothing. They’ve never asked me about any missing money though. I just figure that they think it’s them spending it,” he explained.
\t“I hate parents who neglect their kids. It’s a huge pet-peeve that I have and the number one reason why I took over the orphanage,” she explained.
\t“Yeah. I’ve been wondering what I’m going to do after high school. She’s not enrolled in school and due to some of her issues, it would be hard for her to stay in school.  She’d miss school most of the time. Stupid parents refuse to enroll her in school because “they can’t be bothered by it” which is total bullshit,” he explained with air quotes.
\t“You’ve proven that you’re a great guardian to her, why not try to get full custody of Shayla? I could help you in that department,” she replied. Jaden looked down at the ground for a moment in silence then sat down.
\t“Get custody of Shayla huh? I wouldn’t even know where to begin though,” he replied.
\t“Jaden, from what I just saw, you ARE her father. She only has one father figure in her life and that’s you. You already know what to do and you’ve been doing a great job at it,” she replied and sat up, laying her forearms against her knees.
\t“She asked me why she’s the way that she is. Early onset of heat, never able to have foals, why she asks for my help for her heat and so on. It broke my heart and really didn’t know what to say, so I just told her it was okay. That she’d find some amazing guy one day who will love her no matter what. I just don’t want to see her hurt going through life,” he said.
\t“That’s what being a father is like. Helping her and cheering her up when she needs it and picking her up and kissing those boo-boos and more,” she replied and chuckled.
\t“You’re amazing and I love you for that Willow,” he said.
\t“JADEN,” she snapped, “knock that off,” she replied and blushed. He stood up and placed his hoof on her shoulder and smiled.
\t“I’m going to get me a drink and go outside for a bit,” he said.
\t“Okay, see you later,” she replied.

\t“Hey Shayla,” Jaden said walking into their bedroom.
\t“Bubba!” She exclaimed. She turned around on the bed and faced him. His arms were behind his back as he neared her.
\t“Guess what?” He said.
\t“What?” She asked back sitting up on her legs.
\t“I bought something for you. Want to take a guess what it is?” He asked smiling.
\t“A new doll?” She asked.
\t“No, not really,” he replied.
\t“Clothes?” She asked.
\t“No,” he replied.
\t“I kitty?” She asked.
\t“Sadly no. We wouldn’t be able to care for a kitty right now,” he replied.
\t“I don’t know. What did you get me?” She asked. He smiled and pulled out a stuffed ocelot plush animal and handed it to her. Her face lit up with a huge smile. She looked at it then hugged it. After a few seconds she jumped towards Jaden and hugged him tightly.
\t“I love it bubba,” she replied still hugging his neck with the plush in her hoof.
\t“I’m glad that you like it. I saved up for that over the past couple of months,” he replied.
\t“I’ll take care of it forever,” she replied sitting back down to the bed.
\t“I know you will,” he replied. He sat down as she started coughing. She continued coughing for a moment until he patted her back a few times.
\t“Thanks bubba,” she replied.
\t“You’re welcome Shayla,” he replied then kissed her.
\t“So what you want to do?” He asked.
\t“Wanna draw and color with me?” She asked holding paper and crayons up.
\t“I don’t know. You’re a much better drawer and colorer than I am. Like a billion trillion gazillion times better than me,” he replied and smiled.
\t“Bubba! Is that a real number?” She asked.
\t“Kind of. Billion and Trillion are, but gazillion is made up,” he replied.
\t“Its a big number right? More than 100?” She asked.
\t“Oh yes, much much much much more bigger than 100,” he replied. He took a piece of paper and a crayon and wrote down 1-0-0 on it, then wrote out a billion and then a trillion. Shayla’s eyes widened as he continued drawing out zeroes on the paper. He showed her the billion and then the trillion. She looked on in awe as he taught her other giant numbers. Five minutes in she moved into his lap and watched him from there. He spent over half an hour teaching her all these numbers and showing her how big they were. She asked how math worked. She could do simple addition like two plus two or four plus four but she wasn’t able to do subtract easily. She stretched and yawned a short time later then rested her muzzle against his left arm as he continued teaching her basic math. It wasn’t long until she fell asleep with the ocelot plush in her arms.

\tJaden laid her down carefully. He pulled her pants and shirt off, then put her pajamas on. He smiled at the light pink colored clothing with various fruits and vegetables on them. She had picked them out just a few months ago when the two of them went shopping together. He leaned down and kissed her muzzle then he scooted underneath the blanket and pulled her into his embrace.

\t“Bubba, I’m cold,” Shayla said as they walked down to the store. It’s late November and snow already covered most of the ground.
\t“Okay,” he replied stopping. He squatted down and unzipped his jacket and pulled her inside. He kissed her head then zipped his jacket back up. “How’s that?” He asked.
\t“Still cold,” she replied.
\t“Give it a few minutes,” he replied and pulled his arms tighter, pulling her closer to his body. After another twenty minutes of walking they stepped into the heated super-store. Jaden shivered as he sat down on the bench just inside the entrance. The room was loud with air-blowers running, aimed at the door to prevent the outside cold, frigid air from coming inside while keeping the warm air inside. Jaden fumbled with the zipper for a moment before finally getting it unzipped. After Shayla placed her hindhooves the floor he released his embrace and let her go. She turned around and smiled at her brother. She had a jacket on, but it had a few holes in it. Jaden’s wasn’t much better, but at least it didn’t have holes it in the front. Even though they were inside she was still shivering. He pulled her close and rubbed her arms trying to warm her up. After a few seconds he pulled her onto his lap and held her in a hug then covered her with his jacket again. After about ten minutes, and a couple dozen furs looking at them as they walked by, Shayla had warmed up.
\t“You doing okay now?” He asked.
\t“Yes,” she replied.

\tJaden stood up and lowered her down to the floor then took her paw. They grabbed a cart and headed further inside. She would often look down and make sure she wasn’t going to trip over her over hooves.

\tThey walked around the store for fifteen minutes just looking at different items. He looked over at Shayla who was holding onto the side of the cart as they walked down the aisle. Her chest was raising and falling, it appeared to be labored. She covered her mouth and coughed a few times then started breathing hard. He stopped walking and took her hoof. He pushed a few items aside on a bottom display shelf and sat her down.
\t“Breath deeply sweetheart,” he said rubbing his thumb against her cheek. He patted her jacket pockets for her inhaler. Failing that he checked her pants.
\t“You don’t have your inhaler,” he said.
\t“I- *coughing fit* forgot,” she said as tears formed in the corner of her eyes.
\t“Shayla,” he said. He pulled out his phone and clicked on a name.
\t“Willow. Where are you at?” Jaden asked after she answered.
\t“Oh good. That spare inhaler that I left at the house, can you rush that down to Lal-mart here in town please? Shay-
\t“Okay thank you,” he replied. He picked her up and carried her down the aisle to the fabrics. They have a large counter and table there for cutting materials. He walked up to the counter and looked at the employee.
\t“Move the things please. She’s having a minor asthma attack,” he explained. The female boar nodded and moved everything towards one side. He laid her down and stroked her face.
\t“Keep trying to breath in deeply baby,” he said.
\t“Should I call for an ambulance?” The boar asked.
\t“No, not right now. A friend is rushing down here with a spare inhaler,” he explained.
\t“Okay, I’ll be here, if I can do anything to help let me know,” she replied.
\t“Thank you,” he replied.

\tFifteen minutes later his phone rang, he grabbed it and answered.
\t“Yeah. Fabrics. Hurry Willow,” he replied as he watched Shayla clutching her chest, tears streaming down the side of her head. Just two minutes later Willow rushed up to him.
\t“Here,” she said handing him the inhaler. He placed it in her mouth and pressed the cylinder down. Shayla inhaled deeply as it flowed into her mouth. After ten seconds he pressed it again. She took in a deep breath in and shot up to a sitting position.
\t“Lay back down Shayla,” he said. She nodded and laid back down. He pressed the cylinder and she took in a deep breath once again.
\t“She should go to the ER Jaden,” Willow suggested.
\t“We don’t have insurance anymore. Stupid parents lost it after failing to get a job last month,” he explained.
\t“Jaden, do not put her at risk of death or further injury. I’ll drive you both there and pay for it,” she said. He closed his eyes and nodded.
\t“Thanks Willow,” he replied opening his eyes.
\t“Thank you for letting us use your table ma’am,” Jaden said to the boar.
\t“No problem. I hope she gets better. She’s a sweetheart,” she replied. Jaden picked up Shayla in his arms and turned around to follow Willow. He stopped and turned back to the boar. There’s a cart that has blankets, some food and some other items in it. It’s on the aisle with the trash bags and stuff.
\t“I’ll have it taken care of, thank you and good luck,” the boar replied while straightening out the table.

\t“Jaden why are you and Shayla doing out so late. Especially with so much snow on the ground?” Willow asked sternly as the turned onto the interstate.
\t“We needed supplies Willow. Some food and more blankets. It was freezing at home” Jaden explained.
\t“Jaden, next time call me or Fang or Vapor. Don’t ever walk in this cold and snow with her. You know she can’t handle the cold like we can,” she stated. She looked in the rear view mirror at the young foal laying down. She was buckled up with the middle seat belts around her waist. She was sleeping.
\t“Sorry Willow. After that last time with us, it felt like you… I don’t know. It felt like you didn’t want me around. Like I overstayed my welcome,” he said.
\t“Jaden. I love you being around. But you were around for like four days straight not leaving my side. I’m not ready for Fang and everyone to know about us,” she explained.
\t“Willow,” he chuckled, “they already know that we’re sleeping together. They know that we’ve been going on dates,” he said.
\t“Not officially Jaden. Yeah, they know that we’ve had… well, sex, but not the dates or anything like that,” she replied whispering.

\tJaden pulled out his cellphone and clicked an icon and then an entry.
\t“Hey Jaden, once you’re done with that date with my mom, call me back bro,” Fang’s voice spoke out on the phone.
\t“They’re not stupid Willow, they know we’ve been dating for like two or three months now” Jaden said.
\t“Fine Jaden. We’ll officially tell them tomorrow,” she replied. Jaden leaned across the center console and kissed her cheek then leaned back in the seat.

**5 hours later**

\t“Thank you Willow,” Jaden said, “for everything.”
\t“No problem. I’m glad that she’s feeling better and it wasn’t a full-on attack,” she replied.
\t“Me too,” he replied.

\tJaden leaned over on the bed and kissed her. She placed her paws on his face and locked him into a kiss for a moment. He smiled after they broke away from the kiss.

\t“I should go check on Shayla. I’m going to sleep with her, just in case,” he said. He pulled the sheets off of him and slid off the bed. He picked up his pants and slipped into them. He looked back at Willow who smiled at him and waved him out of her bedroom, silently telling him to “go.” He left the room and walked down to the second floor. He quietly opened the bedroom door and entered it. He used the waning moonlight to find his way to the bed. He pulled the covers back and slipped underneath the covers. He sat up and looked down at her. She was soundly sleeping. He place his hoof on her chest feeling it. It was rising and falling at a proper and consistent rate, her heart rate was good too. He scooted down and covered up and quickly fell asleep as it neared six AM.

\t“Hey, um, thanks for letting us stay over again. I know we’ve been over here a lot and overstaying our welcome. It’s been a pretty tough year for Shayla. For me too I guess. On the plus side, she seems to like Luna, which has really opened her up,” Jaden said to Fang and Vapor. They were all sitting in the sitting room. Jaden was near the fireplace staring at the round aquarium.
\t“Jaden. Don’t worry. You’re our best friend. We just wish you had told us about your sister’s health issues a long time ago,” Fang said.
\t“I. I just didn’t want to ask you for help and didn’t want you to worry about her and me. I didn’t want to make it feel like I was taking advantage of you. I know you wouldn’t think that but it’s still odd for me to ask for help,” he explained.
\t“Jaden, don’t worry about it,” Vapor said.
\t“I uh. Well. Dammit. Thank you for paying for that heat cycle medication for Shayla. I can’t thank you enough,” he said.
\t“Jaden, we don’t mind helping others. Especially those that need or deserve help,” Vapor said.
\t“I know,” he replied.

\tThe three of them turned their heads as Onai, Luna came rushing out of the living room and up the stairs. Shayla was behind them by around ten feet. She stopped for a few seconds to take a few breaths before continuing to run.
\t“Hey! No running!” Fang shouted at the three. Just a few seconds later Onai poked his head through the balusters of the guard rail on the second floor.
\t“Christmas cartoons, watching in gaming room,” he shouted then rushed off.
\t“Jeez those cubs,” Fang replied.
\t“I’m kind of jealous of that gigantic TV in that room,” Jaden said.
\t“Yeah it’s nice for a short time until you go cross-eyed. Anyway, how are you and my mom working out?” Fang asked.
\t“I don’t know. She’s been kind of distant in the past week or two,” he replied.
\t“Well, it’s four days before Christmas. She’s been extremely busy for the past three or four weeks getting everything set up for it at the orphanage, Wolfe and Fox and here. And that night you and Shayla walked to the store, really pissed her off,” Vapor explained.
\t“Yeah, I know. I screwed up that night. It was so late already, I didn’t want to bother any of you, but that backfired on me. Spent half the night in the ER with Shayla and your mom,” he replied.
\t“She’s over that now Jaden. Just don’t do that anymore, just call one of us. We’re more than happy to drive you and Shayla anywhere you need to go,” Vapor replied.
\t“Trust me, I won’t. I even keep two spare inhalers, one in my pants and one in my jacket. I even put one in my school backpack,” he replied pulling out the inhaler in his pants pocket then his jacket.
\t“Good idea,” she replied.
\t“I was so stupid for not double checking that she had her inhaler. I was ten times stupid for not having one with me,” he replied.
\t“Don’t worry about that now Jaden. It happened and it’s over. It was an accident. She’s doing just fine now,” Fang said.
\t“Yeah I know,” he replied then stood up. “Care if I get a bite to eat?”
\t“Nope, make yourself at home,” Vapor replied. Jaden walked up to her and kissed her muzzle.
\t“Thank you both for the help,” he replied then left the sitting room.

\t“Jaden we need to talk,” Willow said.
\t“Oh-okay about what?” Jaden asked walking out of his house.
\t“Are you free right now?” She asked.
\t“Well, Shayla’s sleeping,” he replied shutting the door.
\t“Will she be okay to be here without you around for a bit?” She asked.
\t“Yeah. I told her that I might go out while she was sleeping,” he explained.
\t“Okay. Get in my car,” she said and walked away.

\tThe two of them sat down in a booth at Norbert’s Diner, just ten minutes away from his house. A female jaguar waitress walked up to the two and handed them a menu.
\t“Welcome to Norbert’s Diner. I’m Deanne. Can I get you two drinks?” She asked.
\t“Coffee, black, no sugar,” Willow said.
\t“Okay. And for you?” She asked.
\t“I guess the same,” Jaden replied.
\t“Okay. I’ll have it out in a minute. Take a few minutes to decide what you want,” she replied then walked away.

\t“Is everything okay Willow?” Jaden asked.
\t“Mostly. Just really busy with the orphanage and Wolfe and Fox with the fiscal year-end cycle. Lots of paperwork, numbers and finances and stuff like that,” she explained.
\t“Sounds boring,” he replied.
\t“Yeah. Tedious and time consuming as well,” she replied as the waitress came back and sat the two coffee cups down.
\t“Ready to give your orders?” She asked.
\t“Sausage omelette with Mexican four-cheese, green bell-pepper, onions, mushrooms, all Sautéed. A dash of chili powder and a dash of garlic powder, salt and pepper. A buttery flaky biscuit and a cup of white gravy,” Willow stated.
\t“That. That sounds amazing,” the waitress replied and smiled.
\t“It’s really tasty, you should try it sometime if you can,” she replied.
\t“I’ll will. And for you honey?” she asked.
\t“Just two breakfast burritos and hot sau-, nevermind hot sauce is here. Just the breakfast burritos,” he replied.
\t“Okay. Your orders will be out soon. If you need more coffee just call for me,” she replied then left towards the counter and behind it.
\t“So, you said that you needed to talk to me?” Jaden asked picking up six sugar packages.
\t“Yeah,” she replied watching him pour in all six packets then grabbing two more.
\t“You know, you’re going to get another cavity or more if you keep using so much sugar,” she warned him.
\t“Yeah, but coffee is horrible without it,” he replied.
\t“It’s not bad,” she replied taking a sip from her no sugar coffee. “Plus, I don’t want to spend another $3,000 on you if you do get another cavity,” she added looking up at him.
\t“Yeah. Um, thanks about that. You, Fang and Vapor have helped Shayla and me out a lot last year. Too much help for my liking,” he replied.
\t“We don’t mind helping out Jaden. You know that,” she replied.
\t“So, tell me what did you want to talk about,” he said sitting the cup down.
\t“In a little bit, let’s just chat for a bit then eat,” she replied.
\t“You’re making me nervous, to be honest, Willow,” he replied while he ran his finger around the cup rim.
\t“Jaden, everything’s okay” she replied.
\t“I don’t know. Your eye’s are telling me otherwise,” he replied, “they’re sad, defeated.”
\t“That bad huh?” She asked. He nodded in reply.
\t“Just tell me please,” he replied.
\t“I’m going to be busy for the foreseeable future. I think it’s best if we go our separate ways,” she replied and sighed.
\t“Oh. I, uh. I wasn’t expecting that,” he replied as his shoulders dropped.
\t“Maybe we can resume later. I just need time to think about some stuff,” she replied. Jaden looked at the waitress carrying their plates over to them.
\t“Okay Willow,” he replied.
\t“Thank you,” Willow said to the waitress.
\t“Th. Thank you,” Jaden replied looking at his plate. The waitress nodded then left. Willow picked up her fork and cut into the omelette then began eating. After a couple of minutes she looked up at Jaden.
\t“So you’re feeding me then breaking up,” he said.
\t“I’m not breaking up with you Jaden. I need a few months to take care of business. The orphanage, my store and Wolfe and Fox comes first before fun,” she said.
\t“So. I’m just a toy to you,” he said and looked out the window of the train car.
\t“No Jaden that’s not what I meant. You’re my boyfriend. But I need a few months to work on finances. It’s hard enough with everyone already at home. It’s hard for me to concentrate with you around. When you’re around I just want to be next to you. Even when you’re not around I can barely concentrate,” she said and explained in further detail. After fifteen minutes of back and forth, Jaden stood up took a few steps away but turned back around.
\t“Next time don’t say “we should go separate ways” Willow. In my generation terms that means we’re breaking up,” he said then walked to the door. He pushed it open, sending the door outwards hard. Willow watched him walk past the diner heading in the direction of his house. She exhaled and sunk down in her seat a few inches, staring up at the ceiling. A few minutes later the waitress walked up.
\t“Need anymore coffee ma’am?” She asked.
\t“No. Just the check please, and a time machine to thirty minutes ago,” she replied.
\t“I’ll have the check to you right away, but we’re fresh out of time machines though” she replied.
\t“Thanks,” Willow chuckled. The waitress turned around and headed back to the counter. A couple of minutes later Willow dropped forty dollars on the table for the twenty dollar meal. She gathered her purse and left.

\t“Time for your bath Shayla,” Jaden said walking into their bedroom.
\t“No bath to night bubba,” she whined.
\t“Don’t be like that. You want to smell good and not like stinky trash, right?” He said.
\t“Okay bubba,” she replied standing up shakily. He took her arm and walked into the bathroom with her. The tub was already filled with bubbles galore. He helped her strip down, then himself. He took her in his arms and stepped into the tub then sat down. She sat in his lap while Jaden rubbed the rag around her back then up and down her arms.
\t“Bubba, when will we go back to Luna’s?” She asked.
\t“I don’t know Shay. They’ve been really busy with a lot of stuff including school,” he explained while rubbing the rag down her legs.
\t“Oh okay,” she replied.
\t“You had lots of fun with Onai and Luna didn’t you?” he asked.
\t“Yeah. They are fun,” she replied then coughed six times.
\t“You okay? You need your inhaler?” He asked patting her back.
\t“I. I’m okay,” she replied.
\t“You need to tell me if you’re not feeling right, Shay. Don’t try to be strong for this,” he said wiping her muzzle off from the spit and drool.
\t“I’m okay, really,” she replied.
\t“Okay,” he replied dipping the rag into the water. She went silent as he started washing her chest.
\t“Bubba, I’m going to die, right?” She asked. He sighed and lowered his arm into the water, releasing the rag.
\t“I don’t know Shay. But you shouldn’t think like that. You need to think positive and stay strong to recover,” he replied.
\t“Is there anything that can help me?” She asked.
\t“You’re taking the medicine. It’s our best hope right now, thanks to Fang, Vapor and Willow,” he replied hugging her.
\t“Okay bubba, I’ll be strong as you,” she said and hugged his arm.
\t“That’s the spirit,” he said and kissed the back of her head.

\tAs he ran the rag around her stomach the bathroom door opened up. Their mother stumbled in and sat down on the toilet. Jaden glared at her.
\t“Hows -hic- my foals doi… -hic- …ing?” she asked swaying.
\t“Fine. Just fine,” he replied glaring at her. Shayla looked at her, silently, while she swayed back and forth. A moment later she stood up and stumbled back out of the bathroom.
\t“Fucking bitch,” Jaden scowled quietly. Shayla turned around in his lap and smiled at him.
\t“What?” He asked.
\t“Bubba. I um. Can we. Do what we did before? Before the heat medication?” She asked.
\t“I don’t know Shay, you don’t need to do that anymore,” he replied.
\t“Please bubba? Just one time. I enjoyed it when we did that,” she replied.
\t“Sure Shayla,” he said and ran his hoof down her head. She smiled brightly and scooted back. She rubbed his penis to get his erection. She soon lifted up and he lined himself up. \t“I just needed some extra time to figure some things out,” Willow said.
\t“Do you love me Willow?” Jaden asked.
\t“I don’t know. Maybe. I do love you but I’m not sure that I LOVE you,” she replied.
\t“I understand Willow. You’re still not comfortable with younger males,” he replied.
\t“I’m comfortable being around and with you but it’s still awkward for me out in public, I suppose,” she replied.
\t“Are we still going to be girlfriend and boyfriend?” He asked.
\t“Yes,” she replied.
\t“Okay,” he replied with a smile, “I guess small steps are always good.”
\t“They are,” she replied.

\tAfter the two finished eating lunch, Willow dropped money on to the table and the two of them left the restaurant. Willow took his hoof in her paw and walked out to the car with him. They both got in and got ready to leave.

\t“Jaden, it’s not like that I don’t love you. I do. But with part of my past, I just don’t want to feel like I’m taking advantage of you. I don’t want you to look back and think that I was doing wrong with you,” she explained.
\t“I would never think that Willow. You’re the most responsible and caring adult that I’ve ever known. I know it took a lot of thought and decision from you to even give me a chance to be with you. No matter what happens with us, I will always cherish the time we were together,” he replied.
\t“You know, you might be more mature than Fang and Vapor, even though they have cubs of their own,” she replied and chuckled.
\t“How’s that?” He asked.
\t“Shayla, for one. You care for her the best that you can in a shitty home situation. You take time to understand mature topics and learn from mistakes,” she explained and listed a few more things.
\t“Thank you Willow. Just being told that makes me feel like my pain and suffering is all worth it. I just wish that I could take all of Shayla’s pain and suffering for myself,” he replied.
\t“I know you would in a heartbeat. It’s admirable of you to want to do that,” she replied as she pulled into the garage and put the car in park.
\t“Thank you for lunch Willow. I’m sure Shayla will enjoy this hamburger. I just wish that she was feeling better to have come with us,” he said.
\t“Hey, um, Fang, Vapor and I talked. We want you and Shayla to stay here for a while, as long as you and her want to. That way, if anything happens we can get you to the ER quickly,” she said.
\t“Thanks Willow. Shayla really loves being here. Being able to play with cubs of her own age. I’ve never seen her so active before. Her being able to get up and run around like she’s been doing, when she’s not sick. It’s amazing to see. Even if she’s only able to run for more than twenty feet before having to stop. Luna and Onai are so caring and patient with her too. The other day she was having one of her coughing fits and Luna was patting her back and saying she would be okay. I had heard her coughing and I was already on my way to her when Onai ran to me to get her inhaler. I let him take the inhaler and showed him and Luna how to use it properly,” he said.
\t“They’re smart cubs, like their parents,” she replied.
\t“Yeah, they are,” he replied.

\tWillow leaned across the center console and kissed him for a moment before pulling away. “I do love you Jaden,” she said, garnering a smile from him.
\t“I know you do,” he replied then kissed her again.

\t“Thank… you bubba,” she said. She lifted her fingers and looked at his semen on them. She rose her paw to her nose and sniffed. “It smells like you bubba,” she said.
\t“You’re welcome,” he replied and chuckled then smiled at her. He sat up and wiped her crotch and vagina off before putting on her panties and getting her dressed for bed. Before covering her up, he wiped her fingers clean of his semen.
\t“Bu… Bubba,” Shayla said quietly, “can… ~heavy breathing~ we look at… stars?” Shayla asked weakly.
\t“Yeah, of course. Anything you want,” he said. He sat up and stood up from the bed. He picked her up then carried her to the double french doors and opened them. The warm air hit both of them as the doors opened up. He walked outside and sat down on the deck then repositioned her in his lap. His arms rested around her arms and his paws in her lap.
\t“How’s this?” He asked.
\t“It… It’s good,” she replied.
\t“If you feel uncomfortable or any pain, tell me okay,” he replied.
\t“Bubba, tell me ~cough~ star shapes again … please,” she asked.

\tHe looked up and pointed at one constellation.
\t“This one is Ursa Major, the Great Bear, or mainly known as the big dipper,” he said drawing out the shape in the sky.
\t“I. I like … that one bubba,” she said as tears formed in her eyes. Her breathing started to become shallow.
\t“What… What’s the … the ~cough~ hero one?” She asked laying her head against his shoulder and her muzzle against his chest.
\t“That’s over there. That’s Hercules. He was a hero in Greece. The Greek empire was around many many hundreds of years ago,” he explained.
\t“What… What are ~cough cough cough~ the others?” She asked, he ran his hoof up and down her chest.

\tJaden walked into the living room with Shayla across his arms. He was silent as he walked in. Vapor looked up as he stepped down from the steps. He stood there silently as tears flowed down his face. He looked at Willow.
\t“Wil-Willow,” he managed to say. She looked up at him, her shoulders dropped. She stood up and walked up to them. She placed her paw on Shayla’s chest then neck. She looked like she was sleeping. Willow shook her head and walked away into the kitchen.
\t“Is she?” Vapor asked standing up. He nodded as more tears flowed. He gasped for a breath of air as his breathing became heavy, trying to keep from crying outloud.
\t“Come on Jaden. I’ll drive to the hospital,” Willow said stepping back into the living room.
\t“Want us to come to Jaden?” Fang asked.
\t“No,” he said, “just take care of your cubs.” He turned around then started following Willow into the garage.
\t“I’m so sorry Jaden,” Both Fang and Vapor said as he walked up the steps.

\tJaden was sitting in the grass next to the gravestone. He held the stuffed ocelot plush in his paws. He had been sitting there for four hours, silently crying, grieving. His coat on his face was matted with dry tears. His stomach grumbled from hunger. The sun was high in the sky. His parents nowhere in sight. After the funeral, they left town oddly sober, leaving everything behind. Jaden cursed them at the funeral for their horrible parenting. Saying they could have saved her if they had even tried being responsible parents instead of being drunk day in and day out.

\tAn hour later a paw landed on his shoulder. He sniffled and looked up. Willow stood there for a few seconds before sitting down beside him. He leaned against her arm and cried. She placed her arm around him and pulled him close. They sat there for another hour while he clutched Shayla’s stuffed ocelot.

\tWillow took his wrists and pulled him up. She walked beside him as they headed towards her car. After arriving at the car he sat down inside and stared blankly at her dashboard until she started the engine.

\t“What am I going to do Willow?” He asked.
\t“I don’t know Jaden,” she replied.
\t“I miss her so fucking much,” he replied.
\t“I know you do honey,” she replied.

\tHe looked at the stuffed ocelot in his paws as Willow pulled onto the road. He sat it on the dashboard and continued staring at it.

\t“Why didn’t nothing happen to our shitty parents. They shouldn’t be free to walk around and drinking,” he said.
\t“You know I tried to get help. The police wouldn’t do anything since she wasn’t being fully neglected. Since you were caring for her, as her legal guardian in the past few months,” she replied.
\t“I know that but…” he said and started breathing heavily for a few seconds. “Fuck them Willow. I hope they burn in hell, if it even exists.”
\t“Yeah,” Willow replied. She placed her paw on his leg and squeezed. He looked over at her. She smiled at him for a couple of seconds, which caused him to smile back.
\t“Don’t beat yourself up over this Jaden. You knew she only had half a year left when we took her to the ER that night. It wasn’t you, it wasn’t her. It really wasn’t even your parents fault. It was the inoperable birth defect that caused this Jaden. You’ve known about this since she was one years old Jaden, or that’s what you told me that night,” she said.
\t“I know … but … it…” he said and started crying. “doesn’t make… it any… better tho-though. He dropped his head into his hooves and cried all the way back to the Wolfe’s house.

\tWillow laid him on the bed and covered him up then kissed his muzzle. He laid there breathing taking deep breaths. He held the ocelot plush against his chest. No one would be able to take it without a fight to the death by him.
\t“Did… Did I tell you what Sh-Shayla called me before she passed away?” He spoke up.
\t“No you didn’t honey,” she replied.
\t“D… Daddy bubba,” he said and teared up.
\t“Oh Jaden,” she replied.
\t“It made me feel really good for a few seconds until she went limp,” he replied.
\t“You were her best daddy. She loved you so much Jaden. You made her feel alive and well. She felt only love from you until that last second,” she replied.
\t“Thank you… Willow,” he said and rolled over onto his side. Willow walked to the door and looked back one last time before stepping out, shutting the door behind her.

\t“Willow. Thank you,” he said, “… for everything. I loved our time that we had together. The good and bad and sad. I don’t even know if I’d still be here if it weren’t for you, or Fang and Vapor. You all helped me so much in the past year and since Shayla died. I’ll never be able to repay that back.
\t“You don’t have to Jaden. I loved our time together as well. I’ll never forget it,” she said and kissed him.
\t“I umm, I guess this is goodbye,” he said, “for now at least.”
\t“You take care of yourself Jaden. Take care of her plushy,” she replied.
\t“I will. It’s something that I’ll always have with me,” he said.
\t“I love you so much Willow. So so much. I’m so sorry for just up and running away like this,” he said.
\t“You’re not running away Jaden, far from it. You’re doing this for grieving,” she said, “… and I love you too. I really do love you Jaden. I hope to see you again some day.”

\tHe took a step back and looked at the white envelope in his hoof. It had a debit-card in his name, the account has twenty-five thousand dollars in it, from Willow. “Thank you for the money Willow. It’s going to help me keep that promise that I made to Shayla. To go around the US and see all the landmarks that she wanted to see. The grand canyon, the Statue of Liberty, Mount Furmore, the Alamo in Texas, the giant battleships and the nuclear submarines and dozens of others that I taught her about in the past couple of years. I’m not going to break that promise. Shayla, the Ocelot, here, will be take her place, in her memory.” he said lifting up the plush toy.
\t“That’s a good promise to keep Jaden,” she replied.
\t“Yeah. Yeah it is,” he replied then looked behind him as the taxi honked after pulling up.
\t“Goodbye Jaden. Call us sometime okay?” Willow said.
\t“Yeah. I will,” he replied. He hugged Willow then Fang and Vapor who was standing next to Willow.
\t“I’m going to miss you Jaden,” Vapor said.
\t“Me too,” Fang added.
\t“Thank you all for being such a good friend to me. I love you all,” he said. He grabbed his single suitcase and headed towards the road. He placed it in the trunk and moved up to the back door and opened it. He stopped and looked back and waved at his long time friends and basically his family.
\t“Bye,” he yelled out then entered the taxi.

\tWillow, Fang and Vapor watched from the driveway as the taxi pulled away then disappeared down the road. Willow walked back into the house and sat down. She breathed in deeply and wiped tears from her face. Fang and Vapor walked in a moment later and sat down. Vapor looked over at Willow who was breathing shallowly. She stood up and walked over to Willow and squatted down.

\t“Willow. I had this made for you and Jaden. I gave him his last night,” she said handing her a little blue box. She opened it and pulled out the necklace. She pressed the clasp on the locket and it sprung open. There was a picture of Willow and Jaden sitting next to each other smiling, on one side. The other side had a face picture of Jaden.
\t“Thank you Vapor,” she replied and put it around her neck then hugged Vapor.
\t“You going to be okay mom?” Fang asked.
\t“Not right now baby. But I will be in time,” she replied.
\t“We’re here if you feel the need to talk,” he replied.
