Though death can be an ugly, unfair thing, it can also be welcomed and beautiful, and there are many forms of death.\n\nI drew this thinking about giving up that which is old and dead for that which is pure and alive. I wanted this to be sad and jarring, but only because it's sad that we cling to things that have stopped being alive for us.\n\nI wanted it to be pretty, too, and to represent new growth and vigor, so I drew a lily blossoming inside the spirit, who is happy and empowered after giving up that which no longer serves them.",
