"description": "This is the detailed description of my original species.\nIf you enjoy reading the Wikipedia pages of random animal species, you'll enjoy this!\n\n===========APPEARANCE AND BIOLOGY===========\n\nOrgravids (Pronounced: Or-gruh-vids) are a sapient alien animal species with no Earth-based taxonomic classifications. However, they share many genetic traits with various Earth species: hominids such as Humans, semi-aquatic mammals such as Hippos, amphibians such as Frogs, reptilians such as Snakes, and bovids such as Goats. They even have biological processes similar to that of certain plant and insect species.\n\nIn appearance, an adult Orgravid is 7 feet (213 cm) tall, bipedal, and completely hairless. The head is an oblong oval shape, as are the ears, which fan out and down on either side. The snout is short but large, taking up nearly half of their face. The eyes are wide-set and slightly bulging, usually with a pale blue, gray, or pink colored iris (due to their lack of melanin). While they have very sensitive and accurate hearing, their eyesight is less accurate due to a condition known as \"ocular albinism\" which impairs the the eye's acuity and depth perception.\nOn either side of its crown are two small protruding horn-like nubs. Between these sits the \"temple\".\n\nOrgravids communicate telepathically among themselves by way of the temple, an organ connected to the brain and protected by a hard calcified shell affixed to the top of the cranium under the skin.\nThe temple can both send and receive electro-chemical signals produced by the brain. These signals travel by way of a \"neural flume\", a visually undetectable current that forms between two or more nearby temples. The strength of telepathic connection between individuals corresponds directly to their physical proximity.\n\nThey have cloven hooves at the ends of each arm, and sturdy digitigrade legs featuring rounded foot-pads and 4 hoofed toes.\nThey are considerably speedy on foot, around 40 miles (64km) per hour when sprinting.\n\nAn Orgravid's tail is long and thick, containing high levels of both fat and muscle. It is the strongest, and arguably most vital part of its body. It is the primary means of propulsion in the water, where they can reach speeds up to 50 miles (80km) per hour. The tail can store massive amounts of reserve energy to be used during periods of food-scarcity, comparable to the function of a Camel's hump. Undernourished individuals tend to have very slender tails.\nIt presents with a green coloration near the tail fin, which is produced not by melanin, but by chloroplast cells which produce chlorophyll - allowing them to garner a small amount of solar energy via photosynthesis in lieu of food consumption.\n\nOrgravids have lungs and must breathe air to oxygenate, though they are able to remain underwater for upwards of 30 minutes. Sleeping Ogravids often float with their nostrils just above the water's surface. They also rest their tail fin on the surface in order to passively photosynthesize solar light while resting - a behavior endearingly dubbed \"lilypadding\".\n\nIts torso boasts a distended spherical belly and smooth chest bearing no navel or teats (it is neither a placental nor milk-producing mammal.)\nPelvis / hips and rump are very wide and high-set.\nBetween the legs is a single cavity, comparable to the \"cloaca\" of some Earth species, used for both reproductive and excretory purposes; the visible opening is most commonly referred to as the “vent”.\n\nA healthy Orgravid's skin is hairless, colorless, and smooth/sleek to the touch. It is also notably elastic, able to stretch considerably and return to its original shape with ease.\nThough they have no melanin by nature, living water is often intentionally dyed via any number of natural coloring agents in order to achieve a certain skin hue over time, a process known as \"pigment osmosis\". The natural chemical makeup and quality of living water can also produce coloration, usually in a tint of green, tan, or gray.\n\nThe Orgravid's unique inner biology allows them to reproduce asexually simply by consuming food. A single abdominal organ referred to as the “centrum” acts as both their digestive and reproductive center. A week-long window of fertility called the “receptive period” occurs every three months, during which an ovum is released from the ovaries and into the centrum and several fertility-facilitating hormones are produced.\n\nIf an Orgravid consumes solid food at any time during their receptive period, it will result in fertilization and conception. A fertilized egg will quickly develop and eventually hatch within the centrum -- this initiates labor and results in a live birth. (Ovoviviparity)\nIndividuals sometimes choose to fast during their receptive periods as a form of birth control, but most will gladly remain gravid (i.e. pregnant) for the majority of their adult life.\n\nThey are each able to produce, on average, 100 to 120 individual offspring in total over the course of their short lives, a mere 25 to 30 years on average. Their wide-set skeletal structure and malleable skin allows for swift and relatively painless childbearing. (Though the onset of labor does cause minor to moderate cramping/contracting of the centrum.)\n\nAlmost no recovery time is required before the process may be repeated. Pregnancies last for a single fertility cycle (three months) and result in a newborn Orgravid. Newborns are able to acquire and consume solid food without parental assistance immediately after birth. A calf’s diet consists generally of algae, kelp, and other water-based plant life.\nThey are similar in appearance to adults with the exception of their size and an initial lack of legs. Since calves only have mobility in the water (by way of their tails) young Orgravids live predominantly in the water until they reach maturity. Maturation occurs around one year of life and is marked by the development of legs, as well as the appearance of reproductive hormones which cause intense hunger (akin to the appearance of a sex drive in mating species).\n\nSince they reproduce through a form of parthenogenesis, each member of the species is genetically identical. However, individuals usually gain unique characteristics through variables such as their living environment and diet, as well as congenital physical defects, physical trauma, or through intentional modification (eg. tattooing.)\n\n===========SOCIETY AND CULTURE===========\n\nDue to their telepathic nature, they are deeply interdependent and social creatures who rarely venture too far on their own.\nWhile they are quite sapient and can acquire verbal languages used by other creatures, communicating in this way does not come naturally to them, rendering their dictation very concise and simplified. One-syllable replies and descriptive buzzwords are used whenever communicating in a non-telepathic manner.\n\nWhile Orgravids do have a symbolic written language for the purpose of long-distance or absent communication, it has no oral/audible equivalent. By nature, vocalizations are only used during involuntary emotional expressions (eg. laughing / cries of sadness/fear ) or when trying to locate one another over physical distances too great to establish a neural flume. Their \"calling\" vocalization has a rich and resonant \"lowing\" quality with a far reach both on land and underwater, not unlike a whale's.\n\nOrgravids identify each other via telepathic imprints (equivalent to a name) as well as variances in appearance and scent, and occasionally by their call. They have no cultural concept of sex or gender as they are biologically and socially homogeneous -- other cultures may regard them as androgynous or imbue them with motherly traits, but these concepts are foreign to them.\n\nOrgravids do not have a verbally-translatable name for their home planet, but it is intergalacticly known by several, including \"The Well\" or \"Gaia's Well\". It is a relatively small planet that is largely covered by water (about 89% of the planet's surface) with a small number of sprawling, continent-like land masses featuring mostly lush, wet biomes. It is known as a sanctuary planet of healing and natural harmony. The planet is ecologically uniform throughout, home to only ~100,000 species of flora and fauna in total.\n\nOrgravid society is highly efficient, fast-paced, and predominantly peaceful. They are deeply reverent towards nature - a central theme in their spiritual practices. Much of their time is spent guarding and tending to the environment, as well as farming and foraging for sustenance.\nAdditionally, they are great appreciators of beauty and art, often creating crafts, paintings, and drawings, or decorating themselves with elements of nature to express this passion. Tattooing intricate designs upon the belly is common among adults.\n\nThese aspects of their culture are secondary only to matters of fertility/reproduction, the primary focus of their daily lives.\n\nIdeally, an Orgravid will remain in the same area with the same pod for its entire life, but they will migrate with their community if natural circumstances call for it. Rarely, small groups will venture away from their homeland for exploratory purposes.\n\nDespite being herbivorous, Orgravids have a peculiar drive to swallow other living creatures whole during times when they are not gravid.\nSince they aren't physically able to fertilize with, absorb, or break down meat, the devoured creature passes through the system and is \"delivered\" unharmed within 24 hours. This process is colloquially known as a \"rebirth\".\nDue to their elastic skin, they're able to swallow creatures of a considerable size by stretching the jaw and throat.\n\nThe intentions behind this activity vary - it is involved in many traditional Orgravid spiritual rituals, but is also treated by some as a form of fun and social bonding with other species. They are even able to communicate telepathically with the creatures they consume, regardless of whether or not the creature possesses a temple.\n\nIt is theorized that since an Orgravid’s strongest animal instinct is to be continuously gravid, they posses a natural desire to simulate the experience in between pregnancies.\n\nOther creatures often make pilgrimages to the Orgravids' home land with the intention of willingly participating in a rebirth. The intentions behind this also vary. ",
