  "description": "This is what will be the typical inside view [i](back view)[/i] of the gates in a 6 foot privacy fence I am helping one of my nieces with.\n\nThe grey portion is a steel frame I welded out of 1 inch x 2 inch rectangular tubing. I've already welded the steel gate frames together, though I'm yet to fabricate and weld on the parts for the latching hardware.\nHorizontal wood members will be bolted to welded flanges in the steel frames. Then the pickets will be nailed to the horizontal wood members. \nThe design is so the gates can be latched, unlatched, locked and unlocked at the top of the inside of the gates. The flat steel at the top near the handle with the holes that line up is for a pad lock.\nThe rod making up the latch is 1/2 inch cold roll steel rod. It's not likely that an intruder could reach in and bend 1/2 steel rod to make the gate unlatch...It would be easier to climb the 6 foot high fence.\n\nI've recently thought of the design on the right. \nIt is simple, easy to make, and has only one working part.\n\nWhich design do you like better? ",
