Days later, Si found the chair around side the liquor store and took it back to the church where it belongs.[/b][/color]\n\nAkello Genet, age 6, is excited about New Years Day 1996. Akello darts across the street and the CFB narrow gauge railway crossing...probably without first checking for trains and motor vehicles. Originally, there were not going to be any fireworks for Akello Genet, his two brothers Zarambo and Jago, and two sisters Rita and Salma on New Year's Day...That's because his parents, Mahfuz (dad) and Kya (mom), wouldn't be able to afford them. However, Valdez Mongoose, who is the ticket agent at the CFB railway passenger depot is a good friend of the Chidio Genet Family, and Valdez has purchased a small amount of fireworks for Akello Genet to share with his siblings. It consisted of a pack of 100 of those tiny bottle rockets that fly up and pop, and a two foot long string of those small Chinese firecrackers...all of which is legal where they live.\nThe hardware store in the village always gets a small selection of fireworks in stock for holidays such as; Angolan National Independence day celebrated on November 11th, Véspera de Santo John (Saint John's Eve) celebrated on June 23rd, and for New Year's Day. The hardware store never carries the larger, more extravagant fireworks because they would be too expensive and many of the locals would not be able to afford them...Thus they sell the smaller, budget fireworks that don't cost much, such as; packs of the tiny bottle rockets, strings of Chinese firecrackers, sparklers, whistlers, smoke balls and lotus spinners.\nWhy Akello Genet is running?...It is to go get the bottle rockets and firecrackers Valdez Mongoose has waiting for Akello at the passenger depot to bring back to the house...It was another friend of the Genet Family who dropped by and notified Mahfuz and Kya that Valdez Mongoose had some fireworks for the cubs to set off and enjoy. \nUpon Akello returning back from the passenger depot with the fireworks, the bottle rockets were divided up 20 rockets for each cub...They come in 10 smaller packs of 10 rockets to the 100 pack. And the string of firecrackers were unraveled into individual firecrackers, then counted out and divided equally among the cubs...Also, Mom and Dad instructed the cubs that firecrackers are to be lit on the ground, and not lit and thrown.\nThe genet cubs had lots of fun lighting off the fireworks that evening that Valdez Mongoose had gotten for them from the hardware store. \n\n[color=#8f5902]The boys who are drinking are local residents of the village. New Year's Day is in the middle of summer in Angola (southern hemisphere).
The boys pass around a 5th of Cockspur rum they bought from Kagiso Genet who is standing in the doorway of his store.
The term "cuca shop" is often used in Namibia to refer to a bar, night club or liquor store (when English is spoken), and with the Cunene Province bordering Namibia, could be that term had made it's way into the nearby Cunene Province.

Sy Aardwolf had referred to that same liquor as a "cuca shop" the time that he lectured Pancho Meerkat for trying to purchase a half 5th of Kwilu rum with money Sy had helped Pancho with to get a train ticket to see his uncle Timon.

Valdez Mongoose, sitting in the turquoise colour chair, offered Adara Linsang a swig of rum.
Adara does not drink alcohol, so she replied, "Obrigado pela oferta. No entanto, vou deixá-lo sozinho", which means, Thank you for the offer. However, I will leave it alone.
Adara, being only 17 at the time, was still a bit young to be drinking alcohol, and Kagiso Genet wouldn't have allowed Valdez to give her some anyway.
By the way...That turquoise colour chair Valdez Mongoose is sitting in somehow made it's way from the church where Si Aardwolf is pastor. Days later, Si found the chair around side the liquor store and took it back to the church where it belongs.

Akello Genet, age 6, is excited about New Years Day 1996. Akello darts across the street and the CFB narrow gauge railway crossing...probably without first checking for trains and motor vehicles. Originally, there were not going to be any fireworks for Akello Genet, his two brothers Zarambo and Jago, and two sisters Rita and Salma on New Year's Day...That's because his parents, Mahfuz (dad) and Kya (mom), wouldn't be able to afford them. However, Valdez Mongoose, who is the ticket agent at the CFB railway passenger depot is a good friend of the Chidio Genet Family, and Valdez has purchased a small amount of fireworks for Akello Genet to share with his siblings. It consisted of a pack of 100 of those tiny bottle rockets that fly up and pop, and a two foot long string of those small Chinese firecrackers...all of which is legal where they live.
The hardware store in the village always gets a small selection of fireworks in stock for holidays such as; Angolan National Independence day celebrated on November 11th, Véspera de Santo John (Saint John's Eve) celebrated on June 23rd, and for New Year's Day. The hardware store never carries the larger, more extravagant fireworks because they would be too expensive and many of the locals would not be able to afford them...Thus they sell the smaller, budget fireworks that don't cost much, such as; packs of the tiny bottle rockets, strings of Chinese firecrackers, sparklers, whistlers, smoke balls and lotus spinners.
Why Akello Genet is running?...It is to go get the bottle rockets and firecrackers Valdez Mongoose has waiting for Akello at the passenger depot to bring back to the house...It was another friend of the Genet Family who dropped by and notified Mahfuz and Kya that Valdez Mongoose had some fireworks for the cubs to set off and enjoy.
Upon Akello returning back from the passenger depot with the fireworks, the bottle rockets were divided up 20 rockets for each cub...They come in 10 smaller packs of 10 rockets to the 100 pack. And the string of firecrackers were unraveled into individual firecrackers, then counted out and divided equally among the cubs...Also, Mom and Dad instructed the cubs that firecrackers are to be lit on the ground, and not lit and thrown.
The genet cubs had lots of fun lighting off the fireworks that evening that Valdez Mongoose had gotten for them from the hardware store.
