So don’t worry about me. Just put some more altitude down will ya?”\n\n“Why? Not like going higher makes me faster. It was already higher than the mountain, ALMOST higher than the mega trees. Honestly I’m surprised that the air hasn’t gotten too thin to breathe yet.”\n\n“It’s a shortcut to your wedding, save some time.”\n\n“How is UP a shortcut?”\n\n“Lapis, you can’t tell me you never noticed the horizon situation.”\n\nThat was fair enough. Genetics wasn’t the only thing in this land that was distorted, so was space. The horizon line didn’t seem to exist, instead you seemed to just be able to see forever until things faded into bluish fog. She had noticed when she first got here, but hadn’t thought about it for some time. “Right that. You know what’s up there?”\n\n“Of course. I’m a grandma after all, been about plenty long enough to study this place.”\n\n“On THAT point… I know I’ve met your kids, a lot of then, and they’re adults and all but you could still pass for 25.”\n\nKate shrugged, “That I’m less sure on. It seems having lots of, shall we say, genetic diversity, in you slows aging down, though it will likely be decades yet before I’m positive how MUCH it slows down.”\n\n“Unless it stops entirely” Lapis mused half to herself flapping to gain more air, “I have quite the supply of alternate forms at this point too.”\n\n“Maybe it does. Well either way I hope you and Rhae have long lives and hundreds of eggs.”\n\nLapis shutters for a moment, wings shuttering and losing a few feet of altitude before she caught herself, “I’m going to lay EGGS!?”\n\nKate wobbled but managed to stay up in her surfing position, “You’re a DRAGON aren’t you… at least now. After that I think I’ll stick to having my hubby’s kids only for awhile.”\n\nLapis wasn’t sure whether to cringe or laugh at the idea of birthing bark, in the end she settled on a laugh. Her upward speed was waning noticeably, she also felt heavier, as did Kate on her back, “What is….”\n“Gravity… or what passes for it here. The ‘Sun’ is a repulsor or something, and the closer you get more it pushes.\n\nLapis look at it, seeing the shifting and glowing curved and crystalline lines in its shifting shape. The only constant was the bright light, only now starting to slowly dim in the early afternoon. “What is it? A white hole? I want to know.” Lapis flapped hard but wasn’t making progress towards it and her wings were getting tired. “Dammit”\n\n“See. Can’t get close. Now that we’re up here though, aim over there” Kate pointed, “Easy glide down and we’ll be there.\n\nWith a long sigh Lapis started the descent. As weird as this place was, admittedly switching to the other side of the world by literally flying close to the sun was a new one.\n\n“Think they’re ready yet?”\n\n“Your fiancée you mean? The officiants? Who is officiating anyway.” Lapis asked, She hadn’t seen Rhae all day after all, bad luck and all that. He had gone ahead with Hazel and Clarissa.\n\n“Other witches I know.” Kate said, “you’ll see some races probably new to you. They agreed to fly in.”\n\n“We could have just stayed in the tree village.”\n\n“They were getting huffy enough about Clarissa being around to not be worth it.” Kate flopped down on Lapis’ back. Laying on her stomach on the back of the larger dragon’s neck, “but that aside. Ready to be Mrs. whatever his last name is.”\n\n“He’ll be taking mine.” Lapis said, “He doesn’t really have one.”\n\n“Ah. Well, congrats” Kate said tussling Lapis’ mane and giving her a scratch, “not much longer now.”\n\nLapis almost mewled at the scratches and twirled in the air a little, “No not much longer. Chapter 34: Casual Flight

“So, then I said yes and fucked him silly…”

“Do I get details on the ‘fucked silly’?”

“You perv” Lapis said looking back at the forest witch that was presently riding her.

Literally in this instance.

Kate shrugged, “Well we live in the shapeshifting fuck forest, so it comes with the territory.”  She shifted her footing on Lapis’ back. Arms spread wide and bracing against the wind.”

“You’re not worried about falling off?” Lapis asked as she flapped.  Having someone riding on her back was concerning enough, given how far up they were, but this one had insisted on standing upright and basically ‘surfing’ on her back.

Th unconcerned sergal woman shrugged, “I probably have more forms than you, and can certainly grow wings if I needed to. So don’t worry about me.  Just put some more altitude down will ya?”

“It’s a shortcut to your wedding, save some time.”

“Lapis, you can’t tell me you never noticed the horizon situation.”

That was fair enough.  Genetics wasn’t the only thing in this land that was distorted, so was space.  The horizon line didn’t seem to exist, instead you seemed to just be able to see forever until things faded into bluish fog.  She had noticed when she first got here, but hadn’t thought about it for some time.  “Right that.  You know what’s up there?”

“Of course.  I’m a grandma after all, been about plenty long enough to study this place.”

“On THAT point… I know I’ve met your kids, a lot of then, and they’re adults and all but you could still pass for 25.”

Kate shrugged, “That I’m less sure on.  It seems having lots of, shall we say, genetic diversity, in you slows aging down, though it will likely be decades yet before I’m positive how MUCH it slows down.”

“Unless it stops entirely” Lapis mused half to herself flapping to gain more air, “I have quite the supply of alternate forms at this point too.”

“Maybe it does.  Well either way I hope you and Rhae have long lives and hundreds of eggs.”
