One side effect of living in a town so small that one girl with a pouch was enough to handle all the mail requirements. Having wings helped of course but still, the commune being as small as it was meant that sometimes she just DIDN’T have mail to deliver.\n\nRolling out of bed she stretched and decided to go for a bit of a hike. It might be a bit dark but she knew the local trails well enough, everyone in the naturist’s commune she lived in was pretty outgoing as far as hiking in the woods goes. Likely goes with the territory, the sort of person who moved to a 100% clothing optional town wasn’t much of a shut in by definition. It was a warm evening too so she’d have no trouble going out in the buff, and her pouch was great for carrying a flashlight and a snack.\n\nLapis trotted along the mostly abandoned lanes giving a wave to the few people she saw on her way out of town and started up the woodland trail. She loved the feeling of the night air caressing her body, her cheeks, her neck, her back and tail, and of course over her breasts and between her legs too. She even took a moment to lift the girls up to let that sweaty spot under her boobs air out thoroughly. She didn’t understand the folks who lived in cities. She couldn’t stand that sort of thing. So stuffy, and on top of that they wore things like skinny jeans, SKINNY JEANS, and, horror of horrors, underwire bras!!! Lapis really could not understand why her way of life was so limited to fringe communities like hers.\n\nShifting out of that thought pattern she picked up the pace a bit. Trotting along at a reasonable clip letting her wings air out behind her. She could glide through the air on the way back if she got tired, a proper jog was the real way to get her energy out.\n\nThe night darkened as she went. She didn’t dig the flashlight out though. Even if she lost the trail she felt confident in finding it again. OR all else fails she could just fly. Towns glowed at night from the air. She expected that it should not be hard to find civilization on the wing.\n\nWhat she didn’t expect is finding herself stumbling upon a cave of some sort. Sure there were SOME caves in the hills, but not this close, at least that she remembered. Was she off trail already? No matter she had her light and doing some light exploring couldn’t hurt could it? She pulled the flashlight out of her pouch flicked it on and strode into the cave.\nIt didn’t’ have the largest entrance. She wondered if that’s why she hadn’t been aware of it before, but inside it got big, fast. She was almost stunned by the height of the ceiling and made a mental note to tell all her friends about it when she got back.\n\nUnfortunately she was a little too busy looking up and suddenly her foot slid out from under her.\n\nWith a yelp she face planted and started to slide down a rather steep slope deeper into the cave. Her claws skittered over the smooth stone and she had just started to get her wings to open when she reached the bottom and thudded to a stop.\n\n“Ow ow ow ow ow.” She winced getting up and giving her bosom a rub. She had slid on her stomach meaning the girls were dragged over the sold rock a good ways as she slid. She supposed that that was one reason that one wouldn’t go caving in the buff. She staggered up and was about to go about figuring out how to get back up when she heard a noise. Not a noise of pebbles skippering down a sloe but of something a alive sliding its way through the cave.\n\nShe grabbed at her flashlight from where it had fallen and shone it around at random trying to see, anything, that might be, seen.\n\n“Who’s there” She squeaked out as shadows started to move. Then at the sound of her voice they rushed towards where she was. Fast. To fast to run. She screamed and threw the flashlight in a panic as she tried to turn and .. and what? clime the smooth slide she couldn’t stop herself form sliding down earlier? She clawed at it but froze when she felt the thing behind her.\n\nWhatever she expected it to do, whatever noises or horrible outcomes she pictured, she dind’t really expect it to talk.\n\n“Are you real?” The thing asked.\n\nLapis froze, facing away, “i.. I.. I…” She stammered beginning to turn around\n\n“Oh… so you’re an animal too?” The voice continued. Though by this time Lapis could see it. It was…\n\nWhat the heck was it?\n\nIt looked like a snake. An immense snake. but with the upper body of … what a shaved cat? its scales gave way to furless pink skin and a flat face. It had hair on its head and was clearly female judging from its endowments, but she couldn’t place what the hell she was looking at.\n\n“I… I’m not an animal” lapis replied at last.\n\n“but you.. look like one, How can an animal talk, and walk upright?” The voice asked.\n\n“Hey. I’m not an animal! and you can’t even walk at all Snake… thing….”\n\n“I’m not a snake!” The creature shouted, sending another spike of fear jolting through Lapis who jumped back and stumbled onto her butt.\n\n“ow” She groaned and rubbed her tush.\n\n“Sorry. i… ok… I’m sorry please don’t’ leave I need to talk to anyone, even a…. fuzzy dragon with boobs? I’m sorry what the heck are you?”\n\nLapis looked up at the strange woman. She seemed sincere enough, even if she was some snake freak, and she did seem sorry for what she said. So taking a deep breath Lapis responded, “My name is Lapis. I’m a bit of a cross between a Kanagroo and a bat, but I do get compared to a furry dragon a lot.”\n\n“How can you talk?”\n\n“What the heck do you mean how can I talk? Same as you”\n\n“I imagine there some, uh, person in there too?”\n\n“OK that’s the second time you’ve implied I’m not a person, Lady.” Lapis grumbled, “Where do you get off saying something like that, bitch!”\n\n“Uh s-sorry. I just.. well I guess IM still more human than you.”\n\n“What the devil is a ‘human’?”\n\nThe furless flat faced snake, cat, thing, froze at that. She stared at Lapis in disbelief. “You .. you don’t know what a human is? h-h-h-how? how can you not.. I.. I am.. was… one, before.. before my” She paused to gesture down at her snake body extending below her hips, “I was one before my legs got replaced by this snake, body, thing..”\n\n“So I guess this furless cat half is this ‘human’ thing you mentioned?”\n\n“Furless cat?”\n\n“Well I don’t know what else to describe you as!” Lapis said exasperated, “Who has a flat face like that? or total lack of fur outside of your hair? I mean the lizard folk don’t have fur, btu you aren’t one of those so.. Don’t your tits get cold without the insulation?”\n\nThe girl blush at the last observation and covered her bosom with her hands, “They do yes. If I could find some clothes I would, but I’ve been alone in this cursed forest for so long.”\n\n“Cursed forest?” Lapis asked confused, “I don’t know about that, but we cant’ be too far from my commune. We just need to get back up the slope here and leave. May not the be best place to get clothes, but it’s a start to not being in the forest anymore.”\n\n“Up the slope?”\n\n“Ya I slid down it earlier when I tripped and… why are you looking at me like that”\n\n“Lapis” The girl bent and picked up the flashlight form where it had fallen, “There’s no ‘up’ there” She shone the flashlight up the slope were lapis had just recently slid down. It ended at the ceiling.\n\n“No no no no no that is NOT possible” Lapis grabbed the light and shone it all over scanning the walls and ceiling of the entire room, but to no avail. There simply was no opening that she could have come thorough. “But I fell. That’s how I got here.”\n\n“Ya.. I got lost too. and I could have sworn I knew the way back but could never find it. I thought.. For a long time I thought I had just gotten lost, but… I think the cave closed of my return somehow. And I think it did the same to you”\n\n“That’s not possible!” Lapis nearly shouted.\n\n“Nether is half my body getting swapped around” The ‘human’ snake said, “But I’ve been all over this cave day and night and I have never found a way back home. I have found numerous ways out, but they all lead to… not the same place I was when I when in.”\n\n“The ‘cursed forest’?” Lapis asked nervously\n\n“ya. its full of… things.. some normal looking but many look like combinations.. like me and you, and many aren’t exactly nice.”\n\n“I was born this way ok, lets get that out of the way now” Lapis said, “I may be a roo-bat hybrid but that’s just cause that’s who my parents were. I haven’t been, scrambled, or anything”\n\nThe girl sighed, “Yet at least, and I guess where you’re from, both Bats and Kangaroos can talk and walk on two legs”\n\n“Of bloody course they can, so can wolves and foxes and deer and dragons. I’m not a daughter of ferals!”\n\n“Sorry. Uh. its just.. where I’m from. Other than humans.. everything is a.. er ‘feral’”\n\n“Seriously?! They are ALL the 4 legged animal type? no people at all? How am I Supposed to believe that you crazy snake thing!”\n\n“Other than humans no… they aren’t smart. all just animals” The sighed, “And my name is Hazel incidentally”\n\n“Alright. fine” Lapis tried to calm down, “Hazel. Chapter 2: A long walk
Lapis couldn’t sleep.
She wasn’t quite sure WHY she couldn’t sleep, just that she couldn’t.
