One the one hand she was stressed from college. Five classes is always a load of work and can get to anyone. Being that she was more advanced she had also gotten herself involved with some research that she was highly excited about, and yet at the same time was somewhat concerned about the implications of it.\n\nThe sponsoring company funding the research was one that no one had heard of but they had given the university a big enough grant to hire a good number of professors and students like her to work on it. The company in question was called “medical mechanica” and was officially working on developing new generation prosthetics for amputees. A goal that someone like Atasi, big into robotics as she was, was more than keen to join in on.\n\nWhat concerned her a bit were the cadavers in the basement.\n\nFacially it made some level of sense. The team included both those with medical expertise and those in robotics, and under standing how real limbs moved would help to design artificial ones to move similarly, but to actually have a corpse fridge felt unnecessary to say the least.\n\nAtasi had tried to put it out of her mind. Her part of the work on the cogs and controllers was fascinating enough and kept her well occupied and not in the same room as the ‘medical’ side of ‘medical mechanica’\n\nStill the stress had been getting to her. One of her new bosses, a tall jackal woman, wasn’t helping. She was pleasant enough, and professional more than personable. Not that that was necessarily bad, but she had the tendency to exaggerate the feelings of otherness the labs could often develop.\n\nLuckily for Atasi she had enough free time to get out and about. Unluckily for her that was how she picked up what she was starting to think of as her ghost.\n\nThe abandoned train station was strange enough. The noises could be brushed off, but the fact that her drone’s sensors had insisted they say something invisible was harder to ignore. A mere glitch surely, but one that had no clear cause. Any test she had run on her little bot had cleared it of any malfunction since that particular event, and she would have put it out of her mind had she not started to feel the presence of something not quite of this world following her.\n\nShe told her self over and over that she was imagining it, but more and more it felt like someone was there, always there, always watching, occluding the air nearby her when she studied or worked. More than once she could have sworn she heard a rustling noise on the edge of her hearing when the hypothetical presence moved. It always moved when she did though and she never was able to touch it, or even prove to herself that it wasn’t just in her head.\n\nThe card swipe access lower labs were becoming worse. While she didn’t feel a discrete presence following her down there, the whole place was just unsettling. and it always felt like the thing was waiting for her when she left to follow her again. Was it the ghost of one of the cadavers they had on ice?\n\nOr maybe did she just really need to relax.\n\nShe was once again oscillating between ‘it’s just nerves’, ‘I’m actually being followed’ and ‘do I need mental help?’ when she had come back to her room one day and saw it.\nWell she didn’t strictly SEE it. what she had seen was her window. Open despite knowing she had closed it, and even if she had forgotten it open, it then proceeded to close on its own. Something it simply did not ever do, she had even tested it, the bearing system was intact, it would NOT move down on its own. Except that it had. She had seen it, she had heard it, and she couldn’t brush this one off as a figment of her imagination.\n\nShe was also currently in the room only because she would have looked insane if she had simply stayed in the hall staring into her own dorm much longer.\n\n“WHAT THE FUCK” the stressed out snow leopard shouted at no one in particular. Class stress, work stress, moral questions, and a bloody haunting! what the heck was she supposed to do?\n\nFlopping in her chair and staring at her overly expensive gaming rig she got so she could run all the simulations her class could require, the CPU was never over 30% usage, and right now it was serving more as a space heater for the dorm room than anything else as the high end graphics processor valiantly rendered her desktop background while she stared at it.\n\nShe eventually began to realize she had to do something. She couldn’t just pretend that everything was fine. Either she was mentally ill or something weird really was going on, but it was very clear that there wasn’t NOTHING going on.\n\nTossing her shirt onto the bed before she started to get too hot sitting next to her baby she dove into the robotics box, which as the name would imply was filled with every extra piece of her various robotics projects that she either didn’t need or wasn’t sure what it was for. Much rustling later and the topless coed came up for air with wires dangling down from her hands and a determined grin on her face.\n\nShe hadn’t seen anything, but her drone HAD, she was certain of it. She wasn’t sure how, but it HAD reacted. and she was going to go through as many rolls of double sided tape as it took to coat her dorm room with every spare sensor she could get her hands on and as many Arduinos as she could wire up to monitor them all\n\nSeveral hours later and her room looked a bit like Charlie’s bulletin board from ‘its always sunny’ but her room was fully monitored form every angle she could think of. Her pc was finally making at least marginal use of its 12 cores monitoring them all and logging anything detected. No way any damn ghost was going to strut around her bedroom unmolested again.\n\nWith a feeling of triumph Atasi leaned back in her chair as her computer logged its data, most just detecting her for now, but she’d have a record going forward. With a start of alarm she realized that she had spend hours with her insane ghost hunting project and non on her much less insane coursework.\n\nWith an audible groan she flopped forward in her chair and dragged out a book to get started on her actual responsibilities. It took hours longer, and by midnight she absolutely hated herself, but was finished. Then tossing off her bottoms to join her top on the end of the bed she flopped down into it and passed out.\n\nPosted using PostyBirb",
