This is a tale of dragons unseen. A people surrounded by myth and legend, their entire culture a mystery to others. They are known as the Shadows, a race of dragons who appear when disputes need to be settled, wars ended, and dictators toppled. Legends say that when a Shadow shows itself one had better listen to what it has to say, they speak softly, so listen carefully. Their wisdom is ancient and their wrath great, so the tales are written. Mobius stared out across the burning city beneath him, his people crying out in pain as the enemy marched through his streets, killing his people. Again he looked over at the table beside his bed to the knife laying there and contemplated its use. He had already lost, his guards were dead and soon the enemy would be storming his house to kill him. His mind raced, debating on taking his own life to end it quick or face the wrath of his enemies in battle. Either way he would be dead the next day, there was no other outcome. He again thought back to the events that had transpired, wondering where he had gone wrong. It had seemed like such an innocent thing, accepting the refugees into his city. Able workers, they quickly began pulling their weight and were even praised for their diligence until one day about a month after their arrival a messenger brought a letter to the house. The note stated that the refugees were actually escaped war criminals and were to be turned over to the representative bearing the letter for judgment. Knowing that this meant the deaths of all the refugees, Mobius instead sent back a letter of his own stating that the ones in question had arrived seeking refugee status and had been granted asylum within the town and proof of their deeds would be required before any actions would be taken. After sending the letter, Mobius had contacted each of the refugees in person, disguised as a messenger. He learned that the truth of the matter was that the refugees were actually a deposed monarchial family from the land of Names, far to the west. They had escaped in the night and fled east until they had come upon his town and here is where they stayed. Their own city had been claimed by a dictator obsessed with power and greedy to boot. His first actions had been to order the death of the prior monarchy and an increase in taxes to pay for the campaign, most of this money ending up in his own pocket as his mercenary bands roamed the streets looking for 'survivors and dissidents' that they could make examples of. Another month had passed since the letter had arrived and Mobius nearly forgot about the trouble until another messenger arrived, this time accompanied by a guard detail. This time, the letter was much more ominous, reading that if the traitors were not turned over immediately then they would be retrieved by force, no guarantee to the safety of the townspeople was given. Mobius called a meeting of his council leaders, and their decision was to ask the refugees to move on to save the town. It was a hard decision, and one not made lightly since the refugees had become a happy part of the community and they would be greatly missed. A secret order was also given, that once the trouble with the land of Names was over, the refugees could then return, their home would be preserved for that day by the neighbors and life would continue as it had before. The family, after hearing the news readily agreed to the terms, even before reading the secret orders. Later that day they left the town headed east once more towards another nearby city this time in the land of Iron, a note carried by the head of the family explained their situation and was to be presented to the Baron who lived there. The note was written by Mobius, the Barron a distant cousin who was an honorable man. He would protect the refugees until the land of Names was quiet once more. A week later, a garrison from the land of Iron had arrived to support Mobius should the armies of the land of Names follow through with their threat. When the army of Names did show up nearly two months later, the fighters from the land of Iron stood aside while they broke through the gate and entered the city, leading up to the current situation. Mobius shook his head, not sure what had transpired to cause the army his cousin sent to stand aside, his people slaughtered like cattle below him in the streets for no reason, his guards unable to deal with the massive assault had either fled or died protecting their own loved ones. A banging downstairs, they must be attempting to break down the door to enter the house. Again, Mobius looked towards the knife and contemplated taking matters into his own hands. He reached for the knife, the cold metal gleaming in the light of the fires breaking out across his town. Mobius carried the blade to his anteroom, the seat where he had negotiated trade deals, settled disputes, and even written the town charter sat vacant now at the far end of the hall, a fitting place to end it he decided. Mobius took his seat behind his desk, the knife resting in his lap as he waited for his assailants to enter, his intent was to meet their challenge then take away their prize by killing himself in front of them. It was the only thing he could do to defy his oppressors further, a messenger had already been dispatched when the fighting began to tell the neighboring towns and cities of his cousin's treachery. A loud crashing sound of splintering wood from the front door drew his attention, the sounds from outside falling away as a shadow swept over the room. Silence fell as the shadows in the room seemed to draw into a single point by the door, forming into a small humanoid figure roughly 5' tall wearing a multicolored robe in the traditional arbitrator style. Through the window the fires continued to rage, smoke and flames partially obscuring the view. The figure stepped forward, extending a claw like hand towards Mobius. "My name is Valkor, I represent the Shadows and will arbitrate this meeting on your behalf. One of your subjects entered into a pact with us to end this fight and we are here to finalize the terms." Mobius stared at the creature for a minute, his mind racing as he thought to himself 'the Shadows? Here?! Why would they come now, they are only legends and yet here one is, talking to me. Who could have called them, and why?' He reached down for the knife, watching the creature for any reaction as he forced himself to speak slowly and calmly. "You say you are of the Shadows, why have you come here? Who called you and for what purpose?" Valkor shook his head, looking towards the window "Your town burns, Mayor, and you ask why were are here? I will tell you what I can, briefly, then you must make a choice. A child is the one who called us here, who they are is unimportant. They are alive, and will remain so no matter what happens here in this room today that much I can assure you of. As I speak your remaining populous is being held in suspension along with those intent on your destruction. If you so choose, I will turn away your enemies and protect your people against any further aggression by this adversary and all I ask in return is something that until moments ago you were willing to throw away." He turns towards Mobius, his eyes shining from beneath his hood. "In return for your remaining time, we the Shadows will protect your people for a period no less than 20 of your years. Is that acceptable to you, yes or no." Mobius looked at Valkor, unable to hide his shock at what he was hearing. "You will cast aside my enemy, save my people, and all you want is my life? I was ready to give that the moment our enemies entered our town but now that you put it so bluntly... it is a hard thing to just give up." Valkor nods his head "then your answer is no? I must have an answer of yes or no, and I remind you Mayor, that your town is still burning and there is nothing we can do about that until we receive your answer." Mobius shakes his head, sinking down in defeat in his chair. "I must do what is best for my people, my answer is yes. Save them, please." Valkor nods again, his eyes momentarily glowing a brilliant blue then the house shakes as a fierce wind tears across the town, extinguishing the fires all at once. An eerie silence falls and Mobius walks over to the window. Down below in the street his people are cautiously grouping together near his house, shadowy figures guiding them and tending to the wounded as those from the attacking force either turn around and walk away towards the main gate or fall to the ground, nothing left but a pile of scraps surrounded by shadow. He looks over at Valkor and asks "What is happening to them?" Valkor looks out the window and smiles "We gave them a choice. They can leave and no harm will come to them. Those who attacked us or attempted to attack others well, we took their time." Marius gulps and watches as yet another enemy soldier collapsed into nothingness. "Is this my fate then, to become nothing but a pile of clothes when this is all over?" Valkor shakes his head "It very well may be, but your time is not mine to take. Upon agreeing to the terms of our contract, a Shadow was appointed as guardian of this town. Your time belongs to him and only he may make claims on it. He will arrive shortly and it will be up to him how he uses the time you have left, either in service to this town or if he deems you unworthy of continued rule, he will take your time and appoint another in your place. That is the way we have done business for tens of thousands of years, and so shall it continue." Outside the town, just beyond the wall a large form of a giant dragon could barely be seen curling its massive body around the town as it landed, Valkor nodding in its direction. "I believe that your resident has arrived. My job here is now finished, but I will remain if you so wish to witness your first meeting with your resident Shadow, if you so wish it recorded." Mobius looked at the giant form, then over at Valkor for a moment before returning his gaze to the window. "I think I would prefer the meeting to be private, if that is fine with you. I would hate to take up more of your time, seeing as how mine is no longer my own to spend..." He trails off as another form materializes in the room, this one slightly smaller than Valkor, its robes pure black like that of an undertakers though it carried no weapon. The Shadow stepped forward, glancing over at Valkor a moment before turning his attention to Mobius, the form of Valkor already beginning to dissipate as the creature pulls back its hood, revealing a youthful face, his eyes rapidly swirling with multicolored hues ranging from green to a soft yellow. He steps forward, holding out a claw to Mobius, reaching through what was left of Valkor in the process, scattering the last remnants of the other being. "My name is Koby, I will be watching over this place. You are Mobius yes?" Mobius nods, looking down at the offered claw then swallows his fear and reaches out his own hand, taking the claw in his grasp. A slight tingling sensation shoots up his arm at first contact, the claw in his hand seems solid enough and the scales are warm to the touch, nothing what he expected. He looks over at Koby and asks "So what happens now?" Koby gives looks up at Mobius. "I have looked inside your mind, and I have made my decision to allow you to continue to act as Mayor. You are kind and the people look up to you, even rely on you when times are tough. I have searched your memories and have found in you the qualities that will make this town prosper under your rule, something I can not say for many that have been placed under my care. As such, the time you have promised us will remain with you until I decide otherwise. Should it become necessary to remove you from your position I will do so, however I do not foresee this happening and should my time here run out before yours does then I will consider the possibility of returning what time you have left in return for services rendered. As for myself, I will require a room of my own while I am here. Please let me know when this is available. Also, any matters that require mediation I will be at your disposal should you see it necessary but know that my price will vary based upon the situation." Mobius looks at Koby, unable to speak only nod warily. Moments of silence pass before Mobius finally manages to speak. "I will prepare you a room at my house, or if you have another place in mind then I will make any necessary arrangements immediately. Please, make yourself at home while I see to my people." He takes a step towards the door but a tug on his hand stops him. He looks back at Koby, his eyes betraying the fear he felt creeping down his spine. Koby releases his grasp and shakes his head slowly. "You may go to your people, however my brothers and sisters are taking care of their needs at this time as well as working to repair your town to the condition it was in prior to this night. I regret your losses and those of your people but these times are past now, it is time to look towards the future. Go now, see to your subjects and when you finish I will await your return here." He moves over to the desk, picking up the discarded knife and tossing it away into a corner, the blade clattering against the stone as it lands, Koby taking a seat behind the desk and watching Mobius. Outside, hundreds of tiny draconic forms scurry about, some rebuilding damaged houses others caring for the injured and yet more bringing supplies for both groups, the large dragon still surrounding the outer wall, its head resting so that it is able to peer through the front gate into the town, seemingly content to watch the reconstruction in progress from its position. Mobius shakes his head to clear his thoughts then moves to check on his subjects as he was instructed. The next day dawns, life returning to normal for those who survived the previous night. The dragons true to their word had returned the town to its previous condition, no signs of the previous night remained aside from the numerous graves that now resided out in the cemetery, each adorned with a headstone naming the deceased and adorned with a symbol of a dragon in recognition of the price they paid for those who remained. Just before the first light of dawn all the smaller dragons had vanished, the large one outside the town taking wing and vanishing into the distance at great speed. Mobius watched them all leave, a feeling of relief passing over him until he noticed the form watching him from the window of his own house. He spent the first dawn hours going door to door and taking count of how many remained, who was lost and what if anything was missing. Once he finished he looked over the numbers, astonished that only a small number, about 10% had actually perished in the attack. He looked again towards his own home, debating on finding another place to sleep then deciding it best to face what would inevitably come to pass headed for home. Upon his arrival, Koby greeted him at the door. "I see you took census, any problems to report?" Mobius shook his head as he entered the house, closing the door and hanging his coat on a hook next to the door. "It could have been much worse, I was expecting many more losses than we had, and through some miracle we suffered no lasting injuries. The aid your people gave to mine was nothing short of miraculous, judging by the reports I was given there were many with fatal injury that were not only saved but are now able to return to work with only minor aches and pains to remind them of last night. I would not have believed it if I had not been there, some of the things I heard about sounded almost too far fetched to be true to anyone who hadn't witnessed it first hand." He yawned and stretched, heading off towards his own room as he called back "I must rest now, but feel free to use any room you like until I can find more suitable quarters for you. Good night." Koby watched him go and shook his head, reading over the report and making corrections where needed, omissions where required. That task done he headed to the one vacant room he had found while Mobius was out and began setting up the space to suit his needs, there was a long road ahead and there would be plenty of time later to see to the details. Two years pass, Mobius and the townsfolk become used to having a resident Shadow and life returns to normal, the events that transpired fading with time into memory, never forgotten but no longer a part of daily life. It is during this time that Mobius discovered that the Shadows had the ability to summon tiny avatars, miniature copies of themselves to perform tasks and with Koby's permission began assigning tasks to the little creatures to aid in the daily routine. It was one of these occasions that Mobius learned a valuable lesson about the Shadows, one that he would never tell anyone as long as he lived but would remain etched in his mind until his final days. On that day, he had asked to have a message delivered to one of the shop keepers. It was a routine request, and Koby had obliged readily enough by conjuring up one of his four avatars to deliver the note. The creature, standing no more than a foot tall had taken the note and run off towards the shop, as usual sticking close to the buildings and back alleyways, always avoiding the main roads. He had seen it time and again but when asked the only response Koby would give in reference to these strange habits was that 'They had their own way of doing things.' Mobius took this answer and considered the topic closed until later that day when he witnessed an amazing sight. The avatar that had taken his letter to the shop owner was returning with a reply, sprinting down a back alleyway as they always do. Mobius stepped out of the way to let the little creature pass by, then watched it run off in the other direction until suddenly a stray animal stepped out of nowhere directly into the path of the creature. The little avatar didn't skip a beat, instead it charged straight through the animal, its body becoming insubstantial as it passed through the beast and reforming on the other side, the message tossed playfully into the air and caught again once the obstruction was passed. This alone would have been only a slight surprise as Mobius was used to the little creatures vanishing through solid walls in an effort to complete their tasks with the most efficiency possible. The astonishing thing was what happened moments later. A beam of sunlight burst through the clouds directly in front of the tiny creature, its momentum too great for it to stop as it attempted to dodge around the sudden obstacle, the letter clutched in one claw as the creature attempted to use it as a shield against the light. Moments later the sun again disappeared behind the clouds, the avatar lay crumpled on the ground missing an arm, a leg, and a good part of its central mass and tail where the sunlight had caught it. Mobius ran over to see what he could do but the creature just held out the letter and gave him a weak smile before dissolving into wisps, the letter drifting to the ground. Mobius picked up the letter and turned towards the house, then tucked the letter inside his coat as he continued on his way. That night, he found the letter in his pocket and asked Koby about the incident he had witnessed. Koby admitted that the avatars were susceptible to light, and that was the primary reason for their strange behavior. The next thing he said however, would never be recorded nor told to anyone as long as Mobius lived. Koby looked at Mobius a moment then sighed "Why did you not bring this to me sooner? I watched you pick up the letter as I was dissipating and yet you only now bring this to me." Mobius looked at Koby with surprise "Wait, you saw that? But I didn't see you, in fact I have never seen you leave this house the entire time you have been here." Koby sighed and looked towards the window, the night sky shining with stars. "My people have the ability to create the avatars, as you learned quite quickly and have made good use of. I do not mean to say you take advantage of them, I would not allow that but you do make use of me when it is convenient. What you apparently don't know is that I can see and hear everything the avatar does, I gain its memories and experiences when it returns to the elements and I am in constant mental communication with them at all times. Yes, I knew you were watching when my avatar died, yes I was there watching you and I know you took the letter. What I don't know is why it took you so long to bring it to me or why you failed to mention right away about the death of my avatar." Mobius thought about it a moment before answering "I was on a way to a meeting when I ran into the avatar. It was pure chance that I witnessed the event at all and after the avatar... dissolved, I took the letter with me. I was already running a little behind and had forgotten about the letter until I found it just now in my coat. Reminded of the event I came here and we had this conversation. I apologize if I have caused any problems with the late delivery." He held out the letter, a confused look on his face. "If I may ask, I thought the avatars of yours were mere constructs, how can something like that die? I mean, I have seen them run through walls and other solid objects before, what is the difference between that and simple sunlight?" Koby took the letter, opening it and reading the contents as he replied "What you consider simple sunlight is quite different to me. My people live in the darkness, our home has no light as our star long ago went dark. We live our lives in the darkness, and sunlight is toxic to us if we are not ready for it. Creating an avatar that is resistant to the effects of sunlight is simple enough but to create one that can survive direct sunlight is something quite different entirely. Yes, they could repair damaged limbs by absorbing energy from nearby shadows but that takes a lot of energy and focus on the part of the controller and since you were already there I figured it would be best to leave the letter in your possession rather than spend the energy to repair the avatar. I know you remember our bargain when we first met, and every time I summon an avatar it drains off a little of the time you paid to us. If I had repaired the avatar, it would have cost you months, if not years of your life and I am sure you would not want me wasting your time with such frivolous things. If you hadn't been there, it would have been easier to place the letter someplace safe, dissolve the avatar and return with another to retrieve it. I just skipped a step and passed it off to you thus saving you a few days time by not requiring the creation of yet another avatar." Mobius looked on in shock. "You mean that my life is being shortened every time I ask you to create one of these avatars?" Koby nods absently, continuing to read. "Yes, a few hours at most but it does have a cost in energy to create a living entity of this nature able to withstand indirect sunlight and the ability to follow simple instructions without direct control." He looks up from the letter, frowning at the look he is being given. "If you want me to stop using them I can, it was by your request that I did so in the first place and I have limited myself to a maximum of four avatars at a time to preserve what time you have remaining." Mobius just shakes his head, taking a seat and thinking over what he just heard. "You mean the reason I always become tired when you use the avatars is because they draw their energy directly from me? No wonder I get so tired, I have been relying on the little creatures a lot in the past to conserve my energy and now I find that doing so actually is costing me more in the long run than just doing the tasks myself. Forgive me, but this is a lot to take in and I'm not really sure I completely understand it all even after your explanation." Koby nods, setting the letter aside and pulling out an avatar, instructing it to go fetch tea for the two of them. The little creature scampers off to the kitchen, Mobius looking after it with wide eyes. "Wait, you use my energy to summon avatars when I am not around or ask for it? Just how much of my life do you intend on using for frivolous things?" Koby looks at Mobius, a confused look passing over his face for a moment before he smiles "Oh, I did not use your time to summon that one, only the ones you request are powered by your time. I can bring them forth using my own energy to do tasks for me, and in this case that particular avatar is right now fixing us some tea so we can relax and finish this conversation, you looked like you needed it." Mobius sighed, resting his head in his hands. "Just when I think I have your kind figured out there is always something more. When you first arrived, I thought the Shadows were an invincible force, your kind appeared out of thin air, drained the life out of the ones who attacked my town and in one night turned a war torn town back to its proper form with what seemed like very little effort. I know now that most of what I saw were avatars, how many lives were spent saving the lives of my people? How many died to bring about the miracles of that night?" Koby waited, but it seemed as though Mobius had asked all he was going to. "Well, to be completely honest the energy that was spent that night would have amounted to the total life energy of roughly 7,652 people of average life expectancy. However, the avatars used were those of my brethren, and as such were drawing directly off of their life force. Since most of my race can control 4 to 6 avatars with no detrimental effects, and knowing that there were avatars from at least two clans present that night I would guess that the total life force spent on the event in question would equate to roughly 5 to 7 lifetimes of your people. That night we drained the time of 37 of your enemies and that energy was divided between those who were aiding in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of your people so in all fairness that debt was repaid in full at the time of the event. Your continued debt to us is still outstanding and I have seen no reason so far to call in my marker. You are a good Mayor, and I hope that you will be able to keep this conversation between us. I would not like to have to rewrite the legends about our people, yours have done a fair job so far and we prefer not to meddle in such affairs but if word ever got out about my kind having any sort of weakness, either real or imagined it could have disastrous consequences as I am sure you can speculate." He looks up as the avatar enters the room again, taking a cup of tea for himself, motioning for Mobius to take one as well. "I think you have the answer you were truly looking for, now I would like to be alone for a while. I expect the usual report on my desk in the morning." Mobius took the offered cup, taking it with him as he headed off to bed, his mind working over what he had learned and after contemplating it many times decided that it truly was best that he keep the secrets he had been given to himself, for the sake of his own life as well as that of whoever he told it to. The time is now 8 years after the arrival of Koby of the Shadows, the refugees finally return to the town, bringing with them tales of both betrayal and kindness. They tell of how one of the knight captains ordered them gathered up one night and taken to what was supposed to be a safe place only to find they were being delivered instead to the representative of the land of Names. The Barron however had found out about the betrayal and had his own guards stationed just down the road. After their rescue they had been moved into hiding, the knight captain was found dead the next day, his throat cut and his purse overflowing with coins from the land of Names. No questions were asked and it was assumed that the disappearance of the refugees was related to the event but no actions were taken to follow up the matter. Now they had returned, as the land of Names had become engrossed in a conflict on one of their other borders and had once again seemed to forget the refugees existence and it seemed safe to return to the one place they had felt at home after the whole conflict began. The townsfolk welcomed their return, and Mobius sent out formal letters with the updated events to those who he had messaged before to clear up any misunderstandings. A celebration was held in honor of the refugees return and no mention of the events that led up to the current situation were made. Later that night the refugees were summoned to the Mayors house to meet with the Mayor's guest and to tell their own accounting of the events that occurred years ago. Koby sent out an avatar and in the following weeks confirmed all that had been told down to the last details. He entered these findings into his journal along with all the other notes he had kept on the events that transpired during his time here, ending the report with the daily market figures. Two years later the land of Names returned to the town with an even greater army. An army of 3,000 men marched against the town and were met at sunset in the fields just outside the town by a lone small dragon. One hour later 300 men lay down their weapons and walked away as the dragon returned to his town, leaving behind him 2,700 piles of armor and dust. That night Koby slept for the first time in years, his belly full of the life force he had drained that night, the countless avatars he had conjured forth but a drop against the sea of his feeding. Again tales of the Shadows began circulating the lands, and the story of the town that had sold itself into their protection. Mobius would later ask Koby about the events, but the only response he would get back from him was 'I took care of it. They will not be coming back and if they do then it will be delicious.' It is now 14 years since the arrival of Koby of the Shadows, the land of Names was conquered by a neighboring land following the destruction of their armies at the battle of Mobius. A messenger from the land of Oaks, the victor in the battle and an old ally to the prior monarchy in the land of Names brings a letter to the refugees asking them to return and take their rightful place as the leaders of the land of Names. A few remain, those who had made families for themselves while the rest return home, bringing with them the stories of their time in the town of Mobius, and legends of the creatures known only as the Shadows. 20 years have passed, the town of Mobius has expanded over the past 4 years into a small city now named after its Mayor. The people who live in the city if Mobius will say that they live in the land between the land of Iron and the land of Names but outside the city there is only one name ever mentioned. The land of Shadows. Mobius is now and old man, the time he had paid so many years ago almost gone, his body unable to support its own weight he is now bed ridden. Koby is by his side always, the two of them having become close friends in the time they spent together. Mobius calls Koby in one day, the pain in his body alleviated by the medicine that the dragon somehow produced from a small sampling of local herbs. "My friend, it has been 20 years and I still remember the contract that was agreed upon so long ago, along with your promise. I am dying, and I know it is well within your power to take what little time I have remaining from me as our contract states. My only request is now that the contract is fulfilled that I be allowed to die free of any obligations. I want to die free. I know you do not treat me as a servant but for the last 20 years you have held my life in your hands. All I am asking is that you give me what time I have remaining so I may die knowing that my time is once again my own, to do with as I choose. Can you do that for me?" Koby places his claw on the old mans shoulder, calling forth an avatar to fetch some tea and another dose of medicine for his ailing friend. "My dear friend Mobius, I would be happy to give you what time you have remaining, but alas it is beyond my power to give what no longer exists. Six years ago, the land of Names fell to the land of Oaks and at that time our agreement was fulfilled and I returned to you the time you had remaining. I have been by your side ever since, and in the last year as your own time was running out I began giving you my own time to sustain you. I waited for this day, knowing that some day you would ask me just such a question. You have given your time, your life, to helping the people of your town grow and prosper. This land is now a great city and you have lived to see the end of your contract with my people. As a final gift I bestow upon you one more week of time, and at the end of that week you will die. I will remain by your side if you so wish it, to record this time, the days of Mobius. I would also like to tell you that a vote has been passed in the city, and your title as mayor has been changed to that of Barron of Mobius city. It is up to you to appoint a successor, I can have the candidates brought before you for selection whenever you desire." Mobius listens to his friend's words, silent tears running down his cheeks as he realizes what these words mean. Silence falls between them, then after a few brief seconds Mobius raises his head to look his friend in the eye. "Yes, I would like you to remain, that would mean a lot to this dying old fool. Too blind have I been these past years to realize just how much you have done for me and my people, I just wish I knew a way to make it up to you. will you ever forgive an old foolish man his vanity?" Koby gives Mobius a gentle squeeze on the shoulder. "I forgive you my friend, now about that successor..." One week later Barron Mobius died in his sleep, the Shadow that had been at his side for 20 years also vanished the same night, the next Barron, a young descendant from the land of Names just barely in his 20's gave a long speech at the funeral, his teary eyed account of his time in the land of Names, his arrival in Mobius and his subsequent re-arrival, along with his personal accounting of the man named Mobius and the Shadow that followed him became a legend in the city, spread far and wide. A statue of Mobius was erected in the town square on the one year anniversary of his passing, and at his side was a small dragon, the legend of the shadows written on the tablet beneath the statue so that all may remember.
