"writing": "Let's talk about a person named Kim.\n\nKim is what you would call an ordinary guy in his 30s. He works an \"essential job\": a full-time grocery worker, bagging stuff for people, updating prices and keeping inventory count. It's a simple job, though, he doesn't like it very much. Some customers are rude and expect way too much for what little role and control he has, but such is life. Even if the customer is always right, it doesn't mean that they're always pleasant. He just want to survive: he wants to pay rent, come home and rest, and continue living. So he does his job without complaining.\n\nWhen Kim gets home, he relaxes and recovers from his contribution to society. Society may this it's an unhonorable or simple job, but it's still a job nonetheless, and one that he deserves to have a break from. After all, economical models of production and consumption are the pulsating blood of society, and the systems in place keeps us tranquilized to prevent societal collapse. Kim has done his part, so when he gets home, he recovers from this contribution. He relaxes like most people, like playing games, builds on his collections, and going to cinemas. Except for one thing.\n\nYou see.. while most people watches tv, play games, or go on adventures... and others have sex, drink alcohol or lavishly spend their earned money... Kim also pleases himself. To them. He does the unspeakable. The forbidden. The unlawful.\n\nAnd what does Kim feel? As he finish, he feels a momentary physical relief, of course, but also a deeper kind of pleasure. A little itch that is scratched and allows him to go on one more day. And that's how he lived up until now.\n\n[q]Kim: Why I did it? I felt better [...] I felt like everything was gonna be alright again.\n[/q]\n\nEverywhere you look, all around us are reminders of our lost youth. Advertising, media, and public sentiment imposes a \"silent desire\": that you should look younger, that you should act careless, impulsive and emotional with your choices, and that you should always experience constant wonder and awe. As if that's the purpose of life. Maybe that is so, after all, since having feelings is such a unique part of existing.\n\nOn the flip side, you're encouraged to buy things to fix these perceived problems: pay for impressive food/transport/leisure services for novel experiences, pay for beauty products shipped halfways across the globe to make you feel younger, and to buy new stuff so you don't look old or outdated. Work as an adult so that you can feel young. But remember the limit to this desire - don't go too far.\n\nSome people have unfortunately done so. Like Kim. What did Kim do to take this desire of youth too far? His background wasn't too abnormal: sure, he was bullied at middle school and didn't have many friends, but he had parents with median income that could sustain a fairly active and curious lifestyle as a child. Kim did, in no way, have a bad childhood.\n\nYet, he participated in this game until he took the forbidden step. Maybe it's because he didn't have someone to care for. Maybe he didn't find confidence in himself to be more ambitious. Maybe he somehow twisted the idea that you should desire other youths instead of making yourself youthful. Who knows? And by that time, the company owned him anyways. All he had was himself, his lack of friends, family and love interest, and his past.\n\n[q]Investigator: Why did you not seek psychological help for this earlier? Isn't it obvious you would do this?\nKim: I-I was afraid of the consequences.\n[/q]\n\nThe forbidden word. P**o. P***phile. MAP. L*licon. Whatever. It makes people horrified and disgusted. It sparks a raw kind of anger in people when they discuss or think about it. The anger is somewhat justified, of course, when real lives have been affected. But not when its fictional characters drawn on paper. But that's another topic.\n\nKim noticed his odd interest back when he was a teenager. He kept it to himself and enjoyed it through drawings. He never intended to hurt someone. But as his age slowly slipped away, year after year, he felt more and more worried about seeking help and its burden: even if he was \"cured\", such as being castrated or locked up, he would still be judged from the label and forced to live with the consequences - it wouldn't matter if he never hurt anyone, as all that would take would be one word and one accusation to ruin his reputation.\n\nNo reasonal person willingly takes this kind of choice that risks their social status and health. No reasonable brain thinks it's a good idea to risk ones livelihood and opportunities on such a touchy and volatile subject. And people like Kim are, for the most part, reasonable. He pays his taxes and contributes day-to-day labor. He respects the common man's life, property, and freedom to express. He plays along with the structure of society and doesn't cause trouble.\n\n[q]Court: Could you explain your background and childhood, Mr Kim? Was there any ever kind of abuse, physical or psychological, from your family, their friends, or other relatives?\nKim: In my experience, it was normal for the most part. I believe my parents didn't want me. They said they got me because they thought they had to. My dad would hit me at my younger years. But I believed that's what happens to every child. I don't think it affected me badly.\n[/q]\n\nKim did grow up with fun adventures to the fun fairs, worry-free weekends and playing games and watching cartoons on the television, although, with occasional domestic abuse. But in the adult life, there's that thought that always comes back. A voice that reminds him of how his life could've been if he put more effort. How he could've made his life better, to be more ambitious and to accomplish more to make his parents proud. To excel at school and become a bigger individual. But no. He became the average guy from all the circumstances in life. He was doomed to become a background character.\n\nOne day, his mother passed away. His last connection to his childhood and family was severed. He felt guilty for how little he cared or knew about her up until then.\n\nMaybe that's what really started this. After all, he began pleasing himself so much, too much, to them after it happened. It was probably because he felt like he had no one to respect, look up to, or care about anymore. After all, who would help him? Who could help? Nobody would want to hear about his illegal, perverted and immoral desires. Nobody would recognize his intentions to fix this and accept his life and reality. He had almost nothing to live for or look forward to. So fuck it, why not go all out?\n\nKim made the biggest mistake a human could do. He decided to do the real deal. He abused a younger person. His conscience was battered enough that he was willing to take this step. After all, what else could he do with uncontrollable confusion? How could he ever handle grief, injustice or longing that he couldn't even recognize or understand?\n\n[q]Court: Please explain your motives for knowingly exploiting and sexually abusing an underage individual.\n[/q]\n\nHere's the thing: the law is completely right. It is always an abuse to have sex with young people precisely because their minds are not fully developed yet. It exploits power structures and has a gigantic risk of creating traumatic memories for them. You can never be truly sure that they're mentally equipped to handle it for years in to the future.\n\nIn fact, it is just as much of an mental abuse as societies' sugars and sweeteners, vaping nicotine, drinking alcohol and overconsumption of beauty standards. And yet, they're approved by society because it's a faceless company exploiting impressionable minds. So when you grow up, you can chalk up bad experiences to bad companies and move on with your life.\n\nBut a person leaves real scars. Your teacher, parent, relative, or neighbor forcing you to do things you don't want. Being exposed to this is horrific for mental development.\n\n--*--\n\nKims moral compass broke from his circumstances. He slipped between the cracks and hurt a child in order to exert control over his own underlying problems. He fucked up, was caught, defeated, and has all the punishment that society expects. No one can or should ever defend the action he took. It was a failure in every concievable way - if you murder, rape, abuse someone it is logical to be put in a cage. But an even bigger failure was that of society.\n\nSociety did the final and ultimate fuck up. In its self-proclaimed quest to do everything they can to protect the younger generation, they would also choose to see, hear and speak no evil and pretend that people like Kim don't exist. That it's an unspeakable concept or subject. A crucial, yet forbidden topic. So much so that the perpetrators, the ones who know before everyone else, can't even help themselves. Any initiative or well-intended worry gets the lid put on and let to boil until it overflows.\n\nThere is no way to manage this by yourself. There's very little public preventive resources, informations, or support lines, and if they do exist, it is still so culturally disapproved that many at-risk probably choose to ignore their problems and hope it goes away. We can't know for sure, because scientific research and knowledge is also stomped on by the stigma. Even after the crime was committed, there is so little focus on what preventive actions or steps to take to help prevent it from happening again.\n\nAt the end, we, as a society, by pretending it doesn't exist, paradoxially make it easier to happen out of our sight and making those we claim to protect be less protected. It will continue to happen to as long as it looks the other way because of the uncomfortableness of the topic.\n\nIt is the sad reality.\nIt's a simple, dumb, and repetitive punishment for the \"evildoers\".\nThis is not helpful and will never be helpful to fully prevent future crimes.\n\nThe solution is to stop being angry, start talking about it seriously and maybe then there can be progress.",
