Each massive steppe is home to an entire race of mortals, few of which have even seen the peoples of the other steppes due to the tremendous vertical climb that separates each one. Religious scholars of the land suggest that those who live a vituous life are reborn in the next upon a higher steppe, while the sinful fall to a lower one. \n\n[b]Dojja [/b](Gnoll Fighter) was born in the squalor of the dusty badlands of Jakar, one of the lower steppes. Like most gnolls of the plains, he's grown up too concerned with day to day survival to consider the nature of the world, and has done his best to live his life as a jovial, boistrous friend that others can rely on. While he isn't bright, even compared to other gnolls, he's blessed with a strong body (and odor) that makes him quite capable in combat. After the party awoke a pair of god-like Asura twins, Dojja made the mistake of laying hands upon them, soon finding himself parted with that hand.\n\n[b]Godi [/b](Fuu Wizard) was born in the temples high atop the mountains of Pragya, among one of the highest Steppes. While most of his people studied in monastic traditions laid out by the secretive holy beings of Nirvana, one Steppe above, Godi found himself growing obsessed with the forbidden lore of the lower Steppes as he grew up, eventually stealing away to explore them himself to further his research.\n\n[b]Cypress [/b](Kitsune Warlock) was born in the deep, dense forests of Leng, one of the central-most Steppes of Duwang. Like many of the individualistic Kitsune who wander the Steppes, he soon found himself embroiled in shenanigans as he joined a trading troupe travelling to the lower plane of Div, where he was shanghaied and sold as a slave to the Forsaken. It didn't take the charmer long to wriggle his way free of bondage and set out on a new adventure with his growing band of companions, eventually learning that the dark whispers he drew his magic from marked him as the chosen Vassal of the Seeker, one of the great Kami of Leng.\n\n[b]Nerium [/b](Forsaken Druid) grew up as the pleasure slave of a fat, slovenly Forsaken Lord in one of the only large settlements able to survive within the brutal hellscape of Div. He grew to enjoy the company of animals and vermin more than people, and longed to set out and explore the natural world he was locked away from. He teemed up with Cypress to escape from Div, eventually getting beheaded by a maddened Gnoll chieftain during their adventures, and being raised as an undead abomination. He soon found a path that allowed him to explore the less-savory aspects of nature with this rotting body of his, becoming a master of death, decay, and disease.\n\n[b]Azazel [/b](Forsaken Rogue) jumped ship from being the servant and accountant to the same Forsaken Lord that had enslaved Cypress and Nerium in order to find a new life for himself on the higher Steppes, sabotaging the ancient mechanism used to climb up from Div to ensure they could not be followed. In his time spent with the party, the sassy know-it-all eventually found himself developing feelings for Nerium - fighting to defend the danger-prone druid even after his passing.\n\n[b]Dantalion [/b](Forsaken Mystic) was the last member to join the party, accompanying them on a journey to the sacred lost city of Shambhalla.
