Vicky smiled and said, “Congratulations Beth”. Beth said, “You already told me that”. Vicky pulls out a pregnancy test and said, “Look at this”. Beth shrugged. “I still need to go to the doctor. So, what about you?” Vicky shrugged and said, “I haven’t been sick like you. But I’m happy”. Beth smiled and said, “Not ever girl gets morning sickness. Some of you bitches are lucky” as she walked away crying. Vicky tried to comfort her but got a slap across the face.
Beth hugged her and said, “This must be the hormones”. Confused, Vicky said, “Kind of early ain’t it? I mean we ain’t even showing” before she tries to leaves. Beth gasps and says, “Oh God, you said we. When did you take a test?” Vicky turned and said, “The test I showed you was mine, not yours. I had no idea you took one, also” Beth interrupted her with a hug and said, “We have to do something. What do you want to do?”
Vicky said, “There is a smoothie place that opened downtown. Want to try it?” Beth smiled and said, “Sure”. She grabbed her purse and said, “My heart is racing”. Vicky nodded and said, "What are your parents going to say?” Beth replied, “That’s the scary part” with a sigh. “I told them we’d be running up there this weekend on the train”. Vicky smiled and said, “I’ve always wanted to ride a train”. Beth said, “My parents own part of the tracks”. Surprised, Vicky asked “What don’t they own?” “A country” replied with a chuckle but then thought of something. “Oh, wait” she before shaking her head. “No, an island doesn't count”. Vicky blinked and said, “They own an island?” “Two. But the second is for preservation. It’s an animal reserve”. “Why do they own an animal preserve?” Beth replied, “Tax write off for the other island”.
Vicky sat down on the couch and turned on the TV to the local news. A red fox with her hair combed back and light red fur was on location, talking about a homicide that happened at a convenience store. Beth sat next to her and asked, “When do you want to go out? I’m kind of thirsty”. Vicky kissed her and said, “Let's go” as she grabbed her purse and they left. Once in the car, Vicky turned to a country station.  “So how long before we start showing?”
“Maybe after a few weeks. It's different for each woman” replied Beth as she changed the station to a pop song. “How do you listen to that kind of music?” “It's what I grew up with back home” said Vicky as she sat back in silence for a moment. “So are we gonna raise the kids as twins?” Beth giggled and said, “If they are born on the same day maybe. That's why I wanted us to be impregnated by the same male. That way they would be siblings no matter what”. Beth finished talking as they pulled into the parking lot in front off a small red building with a yellow awning. The window has pineapples and other fruit in the windows.
As they got out of the car, Beth said, “I see lots of people leaving here, but never actually staying. I hope that’s just a smoothie place thing”. Vicky laughed and repeated, “'Smoothie place thing'? Have you never had one?” “When I was a kitten, our cook made me one once. That was it” Vicky asked, “So when we get married, does that mean I’m rich also?” Beth sighed and said “Yep. But before you're official, we have to go to the country club for dinner”. Vicky laughed but Beth said, “That wasn’t a joke. Dad has a ceremony he’ll do. I had to do it when I was thirteen. That’s when I met my future husband for the first time, officially. We’d met a few times but that was the official introduction. I wanted to go to the dance with a boy I was friends with, but they said no”
They walk up to the counter and Beth ordered, “A banana apple pineapple twist”. The cashier nodded and asked Vicky, “And for you?” Vicky replied, “What she had”. The cashier nodded and said, “Right up” before calling the order to the person working the prep area.


Vicky and Beth walk over to a table and sat down. Vicky looks around and said, “Place is dead”. The woman replied, “Most grab and go. They’re health nuts”. Vicky smiled at Beth and said, “I’m nervous about meeting your family. Why did you leave them?  Did you have a falling out?” Beth shrugged and said, “Like I said, I wanted to live my own life. They’re okay with it actually. We talk about once a month. And yes, they ask about you every time”. Vicky asked, “Why have you never told me or asked if I want to talk to them?” Beth sighed and said, “I just never have”. “Two Mr. Sun shines” called out the drink maker. Vicky laughed and said, “Wouldn’t something with sunshine in it have lemon?” The employee said, “I didn’t name them. The owner that lives on the other side of the country and I’ve never met but signs my checks named them”. Beth and Vicky grabbed their drinks and left.
Back in their car,  Vicky says, “That place gave me the creeps and that chick was rude”. Beth starts the car and says, “Probably bored. I mean, even we left”. Vicky said, “Well might as well not change the pace if that is a smoothie place thing”. Beth laughed and backs out of the parking space. She changed the station to rap before driving off, smiling.
Vicky looked at her and said, “Oh, Hell no” and turned the radio to a heavy metal station. Beth nodded and said, “Now this, I can get into. You know most metal is based off of classical riffs?” Vicky frowned and turns it back to the country station. “You ruin a girl's fun” said Vicky as Beth turned onto the main road. Beth then said, “Also, do you know there are some people that try to make a metal religion called the metal church”. Vicky sighed as she looked out the window and said, “Never knew you were a metal head”. Beth replies, “Yeah. I once dyed my hair jet black and started wearing leather”. “Is that why your hair is still black and you wear a leather jacket?” ”The jacket I did wear then. The hair is my natural color. Just not a dark black”.
Vicky changing the subject by asking, “So when do we leave?” Beth replied, “Tomorrow”.
