While I didn't envision the exact situation depicted, the characters were who they still are.\n\nThe owner of these girls was a black-market genetics expert, pursuing his study of what we today call \"sentience\" and its limits -- despite the ethical and legal questions. In secret, he succeeded in creating this trio of sentient feral dogs.\n\nAfter they grew up, he let them live independently in \"their own house\" (which he still legally owns). They are doing quite well for themselves, making ends meet with several webcam services -- from adult \"cosplay\", to a \"puppy cam\" style stream from an imaginary breeder.\n\nWhen they're off the air, they'll occasionally schedule a \"personal visit\" with a cam client who they judge is safe and can handle it. But mostly, their only house guest is their owner. The rest of the world just thinks a recluse lives there who orders out all the time.\n\nI don't remember where the idea came from, but I can see a number of influences. One is Disney, despite me not liking most of what they've done in my lifetime. If you can look past the art style, it should be easy to see. Another is a weird piece of Rule 34 Furry art featuring selfcest. Despite my finding it rather \"meh\", it's why they are genetically identical triplets rather than just siblings.\n\nDespite having cloned bodies, this trio developed very distinct personalities. Their names reflect their owner's aspirations for them:\n\n• Faith (right) is kind, strong, and the most vocal of the three. She knows what she wants and will advocate for it, but also has a sense of duty and knows where her bread is buttered.\n• Hope (middle) is exuberant, joyful, and the most \"dog-like\" of the three. She constantly seeks attention and thrives on praise, willing to do anything for both without doubt or shame.\n• Charity (left) is clever, hedonistic, and the most emotionally sensitive of the three. She will take initiative to make sure her happiness and her needs are met -- although sharing with others often feels good, too.\n\nWhen I tried to write their story, however, it stalled surprisingly quickly. Despite not appearing in any of the influences I could identify, these girls felt incredibly familiar. I lost the sense I could contribute something original to the world -- even if it's an original fusion of other ideas.\n\nIt took me a bit of research, but I figured out why: they had been done to death, just not in Furry form. The title of the image is what TVTropes calls this ensemble of characters.\n\nReading the examples page, it's no wonder I wrote it purely through osmosis. It is incredibly common, ancient, and cross cultural. But the description will probably show you why I figuratively threw up at what I'd done, and canceled the story hard.\n\nA while later, though, I saw its value. I had painted the house an ugly color, but the inside of it was still lovely. So I refashioned the idea into something more original. A gender swap, a more \"canine-like\" refocus of the personalities, a more futuristic setting, and bringing ethics to the forefront of the plot made it feel fresh again. That new version is still in development.\n\nNever the less, these girls still whisper to me from time to time. They are just so compelling, however tropey they may me. So the least I could do for them is commemorate a fond moment for their owner with this image.\n\n\nOne weekend, he decided to investigate why they went to the bathroom at such different frequencies, despite having identical bladders that should be pretty large. So, the next morning he asked them to finish their daily water bowls, forego their toilet training, and practice \"being house broken\" like the feral canines in his lab.\n\nAs morning turned to afternoon, Faith became more distant, and occasionally complained. Charity had to be repeatedly sold on the importance, and convinced that holding longer would feel better when she released. Hope, meanwhile, seemed completely undisturbed by any distress her body was in. In fact asked for extra water from time to time to get showered with positive attention.\n\nAll three girls, however, held out. Because all three knew he would get more satisfaction in the end than just his intellectual curiosity.\n\nThe image shows the conclusion: it's not the size of their bladders, but their attitude deciding how full they could get. Like so many other things about them, their urine capacity is a reflection of their personalities.","description_bbcode_parsed":"<span style='word-wrap: break-word;'>Huge shout-out to \r\n\t\t\t\t\t<table style='display: inline-block; vertical-align:bottom;'>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<tr>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<td style='vertical-align: middle; border: none;'>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div style='width: 50px; height: 46px; position: relative; margin: 0px auto;'>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a style='position: relative; border: 0px;' href='https://inkbunny.net/Jacquesrabbit'><img class='shadowedimage' style='border: 0px;' src='https://nl.ib.metapix.net/usericons/small/173/173192_Jacquesrabbit_discicon.png' width='50' height='46' alt='Jacquesrabbit' title='Jacquesrabbit' /></a>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t</div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t</td>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<td style='vertical-align: bottom; font-size: 10pt;'>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span style='position: relative; top: 2px;'><a href='https://inkbunny.net/Jacquesrabbit' class='widget_userNameSmall'>Jacquesrabbit</a></span>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t</td>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t</tr>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t</table> for drawing this for me!<br /><br /><br />This image has quite a meta-narrative behind it.<br /><br />It started with a story idea some years ago.
