She preferred shorts over skirts, barepaw over shoes, and dirt over dolls (unless, of course, it involved burying said dolls in said dirt). So, naturally, when she was requested to wear the dress at a wedding she wasn’t interested in that was now her only entertainment at a reception where she didn’t want to be... there was a little resistance. But, behind the colossal wall of stubbornness and shimmering blue eyes was a sense of empathy — deep down Alannah knew it was important to her father and as such inevitably agreed… on the condition that she get to wear sneakers instead of dress shoes. Consequently, the assertive silver fox cub was by far and large the most noticeable attendee to the wedding. Some might say even more so than the bride in her extravagant white, flowing gown with embroidered flowers lining her collar. Alannah’s simple blue dress was notably contrasted with her scraped knees, bandaids and roughed-up shoes. However, this made her quite the endearing flower girl and the wedding went as smoothly as it possibly could. She had brought a remarkable amount of welcome flair to the otherwise dry, standard dress code on the day of the couple’s union —in fact, if one was to glance over at the bride at the right moment they might have noticed a shimmer of jealousy of the attention the cub was receiving.
“Alannah?” The mention of her name snapped the cub out of her boredom-induced daze. She looked up to see the groom of the wedding she had just pretended to enjoy, glancing sympathetically in her direction. He was a large black Labrador with dark brown eyes that seemed almost black to match his now disheveled suit.
“Oh, ah… hey!” She responded, awkwardly trying to hide her excitement for finally being interacted with. The few other cubs had long gone home, and she had been left with little entertainment as a result.
“You look a little bored…” He said with a small chuckle. She pursed her lips and shrugged in response, followed by a small feeling of guilt that she couldn’t be more enthusiastic like the adults. The groom didn’t seem phased however, and chuckled once more.
“Well, your dad tells me that you like ferals…” He mentioned, cocking his head slightly. Her ears perked in response. “Duke is in the den just downstairs, why don’t you go keep him company? I’m sure he’d be more fun than a bunch of drunk grown-ups.” The Labrador offered with a warm smile.
