Thanks to being a hybrid between a normal anthropomorphic alien and an energy being, his body doesn’t have the natural instinct to absorb it immediately. It takes thirty minutes for his body to start drawing it into his system, which in the meanwhile leaves his entire body overwhelmed with an excess amount. Also as a result of so much energy his coloring becomes oversaturated, almost giving it a faint glow.
