My partner, a female Pikachu named Aki, shivered and tried to hug herself warmer. I couldn't help but find it a bit cute, and again I had to struggle to dismiss the thoughts in my head. I used to be a human, so falling for a Pokemon...even if I was currently a Riolu, apparently thanks to Hydreigon, it just wasn't right.\n\nThose objections never did stop my growing attraction for her, especially after our extremely insane rescue mission. She spoke, her slightly sing-song voice pleasing on the ears, even with the chattering. \"Tsurugi...something isn't right, it's getting so cold, but we just left the desert...\"\n\nI just passed it off as another oddity of this world, but since Aki brought it up, a tingle of worry crept along my skin. \"Not to worry,\" Hydreigon said, optimistic as always, \"it's probably nothing, and we're almost-\"\n\nHe never got a chance to finish that sentence when an Ice Beam crashed into him out of nowhere, leaving what looked like an ice sculpture of him. All that remained of him after that were some crystals of ice, scattered into the wind, while Aki and I just stared in silence for a good minute.\n\nAfterwards, I just fell to my knees, screaming at the top of my lungs as I dug my paws into the sand, feeling tears start to drip down my cheeks. \"HYDREIGON!!!\" Without thinking, I rushed him, hearing Aki call from behind me to stop, but it was muffled in my throbbing ears. I could feel power well up in my palm, but before I could even get close, Kyurem suddenly whipped his tail and threw me into a dune without effort. The sound of a striking Thunderbolt told me that Aki had retaliated.\n\n\"Tsurugi, hang on, I'll-\" Her sentence was cut short when Kyurem took a couple of steps and pinned her under one of his massive feet.\n\n\"I was planning to spare her once I got rid of you, human, but she's angered me.\" I struggled back onto my feet, wincing with a whimper and going back down onto one knee.\n\n\"Let her go...\" I tried to say that in a commanding way, but fear and desperation crept into my voice, making it falter.\n\nHe obviously noticed, laughing so hard that he threw his great head back. \"What will you do to stop me, human?\"\n\nI opened my mouth, but barely any words came out, before I clenched my fist and fired off an Aura Sphere at him, the first I was ever able to conjure, ironically enough. Something in the back of my mind told me it was amazing enough that a Riolu could use the attack, but it was useless against the dragon. He simply opened his jaws and ate the ball of energy, even burping to mock me.\n\n\"I could never get full off of such a light snack, and while you two won't really be much better, well...\" He grinned maliciously, my eyes widening as I heard his intent. \"You'll just have to do.\"\n\nI could only utter out incoherent mumblings, until my voice cracked and I managed to squeak out, \"y-you're going to...eat us...?\"\n\nHe grinned evilly, blasting my legs to freeze me to the spot before I could even realize what was going on. Kyurem then lifted Aki into the air over his gaping maw, and she looked at me with tears in her eyes, but that everlasting smile firmly planted on her lips. \"I'll be okay Tsurugi...you'll save me, and everyone...\"\n\nMy vision went blurry with my own tears when he dropped her in and snapped his jaws closed. I could very faintly hear her cries, for me, for help, for him to stop, but they seemed to fall on deaf ears as I watched him roll her around on his tongue like some piece of hard candy, sucking on her fur to get the full flavor. Her struggles must have died down, because the next thing I heard was a big gulp, and watched a tiny lump travel down his long, muscular throat, dooming her to the acids of his stomach below.\n\nA light surrounded me as I started to scream out to the heavens, then everything seemed to move in slow motion, and before I knew it, the ice around my feet shattered from the sheer force of my speed, and I was using my now larger fists and pummeling the dragon's hide. The word was fresh in my mind, even as I deftly flipped back to dodge another incoming tail swipe. Evolution. I was no longer a weak Riolu, I had just become a Lucario, and I intended to use this newfound power to save her. My love.\n\n\"Spit her back up before I tear open your stomach!\" I never knew I was capable of such a violent statement, but between my desperation and my adrenaline pumping so hard that I could hear my heartbeat drumming in my ears, it didn't surprise me. He looked to me, shocked and obviously dented from that strike, opened his mouth, and said:\n\nPath1: \"Take her back if you can.\"\n\nPath2: \"Alright, come closer and I shall free her.\"\n\nPath1: \"Take her back if you can,\" he replied, firing an Ice Beam straight at me. My evolution had enhanced my speed and agility many times over, and I felt no fear, only an insane desperation. I leapt at him with a Hi-Jump Kick, landing a blow straight into his chin, and hearing some of his icy scales crack on impact. My combo wasn't finished yet, as I fell back in the air to avoid his bite of retaliation, holding my arms out and spinning like a corkscrew. I focused energy I to my arms and let loose a stream of Aura Spheres in random directions.\n\nProbably a little over half of them impacted the frosty sands nearby, leaving miniature craters, the rest found their mark striking Kyurem until he fell to the ground.
