how ever, the alien symbiote was at death's door as it had gone too long without a suitable host to fuse with. as it had grown too large to properly host small mammals or insects. it had no choice but to find a human host.
When it finally came across one, the AI of the symbiotic nanite swarm was unable to sustain itself, and with the last moments of it's stable existence, it set a subroutine that told the nanite swarm to fuse with the host it had found, and gradually imprint the capabilities that the host would gain after being fused with the nanite swarm. and as the sludge made first contact with the host's flesh, the AI inhabiting it suffered a critical processing error and terminated itself. leaving the nanite swarm to follow the simple directive they had been given to accomplish.
