"writing": "The Village of Hedonists\nPart 1\nFor Ultilix\nBy Draconicon\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“On an adventure! All of my friends on an adventure!” \n\nLeo hummed to himself, the hood of his robe rising up around his cheeks – did he have cheeks? – and flopping side to side as he grinned and all but skipped through the forest. Every few steps, he’d hold his arm out and look at the compass in hand, making sure that they were still going in the right direction (which they always were), but it always pointed straight ahead. The magician smiled, waving over his shoulder. \n\n“Isn’t this great?!”\n\n“Yeah, yeah, real great,” his first friend, an orange-skinned demon, muttered as he dragged himself through a bush. “How do you fit through all those little gaps?”\n\n“…I don’t know! Tiny shoulders?”\n\n“…Heh. You saying I’m fat?”\n\nLeo started to say something, then stopped himself. He cocked his head to the side, looked his hellish friend up and down, and tried to do the hard thing: consider what he was saying. \n\nThe silence stretched on, and the demon put his hand on his hip, cocking his head to the side, too. \n\n“Uhhh…were you?”\n\n“…Noooooo?” Leo half-said, half-asked, stretching the word out and hoping for a clue to the right answer in his friend’s face. \n\n“Wow, that’s –”\n\n“Alley-oop!”\n\n“’Ey ‘ey, watch it – GAH!”\n\nFrom the other side of the hedge came a pink-furred rabbit. Leo yelped, lifting his arms to catch Wes in a quick-spell – \n\nBut the demon was quicker. An orange hand grabbed the rabbit by the collar before he hit the ground, supporting him by a claw. Leo slowly lowered his arms as the rabbit muttered and the impish rescuer chuckled. \n\n“Could a fatso do that?” \n\n“Lemme go, ya ass!” Wes complained. \n\n“Heheh, what’ll you give me for it?”\n\n“’Ey, I was gonna be nice and tell ya frog-boy’s about to toss everyone else over, but you wanna extort me, be my guest!”\n\nLeo blinked. \n\nThe demon blinked. \n\nAs one they leaped to the sides, dropping Wes the rest of the way. Just in time for – \n\n“GAH!”\n\n“AAAAAH!”\n\nThe sibling dragons came flying over the hedge next, though they held onto each other until they landed. Fortunately for them, they crashed right into a soft landing pad. Unfortunately for Wes, the landing pad happened to be him. Leo winced as the rabbit utterly crumpled beneath the scaly siblings. Whatever the thief’s complaints were, they were almost as buried in the dirt as his face was. \n\nLeo waved at Ruby and Emerald, though neither of them waved back. Ruby was too busy slowly disentangling her nervous brother from herself, patting his back, comforting him, and the blue-scaled dragoness shook her head. Leo didn’t quite understand why Emerald was always so nervous, but he was glad that the green dragon had Ruby around. Ruby always seemed more annoyed than anyone else in the group, but she was so powerful and pushy that she just made things better by being there. \n\n“It’s okay, it’s okay. We’re fine,” Ruby muttered, patting Emerald’s back. \n\n“I-I know. J-j-just surprised.”\n\n“Heh. Caspar would never hurt us, you know that.”\n\n“I k-know, j-just a bit…b-b-bit sudden.”\n\n“Yeah, you two might wanna move. Caspar and the witch-bitch are still coming,” the demon said, looking down at his claws in blasé fashion.\n\n“Fuck being a cushion for that…feline,” Ruby muttered, showing fangs. \n\nEven Leo leaned away a bit at that. He still didn’t quite understand why she hated their newest friend – or, well, he thought the cat was a friend – but she really did. Maybe he’d ask her about that later. \n\nRuby and Emerald darted out of the way. Wes groaned, pushing himself to all fours and shaking his head. \n\n“Nnngh…ow.”\n\n“Wanna bet she lands on him?” \n\n“Gods, I hope so,” Ruby muttered. \n\n“Heh. Leo turns off the spell in the forest if she does; I’ve missed everyone staring at my dick.”\n\n“Is that all you think about, demon?” \n\nDespite herself, Ruby smiled, crossing her arms. \n\n“Fine. I bet you do the cooking later if she doesn’t.”\n\n“Deal.”\n\nThey’re friends getting along! Yay!\n\n“Hup!”\n\nThat was all the warning they got before the black dress and gray fur of their newest friend appeared over the top of the bushes. Wes yelped, rolling sideways, and – \n\nJust managed to get out from under the booster boots that Sofia wore. The dark-furred feline landed with a soft click-thud in front of the bush, brushing her skirt down once more, and the rabbit groaned as he lay on his side. \n\n“Can ya stop that?! I ain’t some mattress for all of ya to jump on!”\n\n“I could make you one,” Sofia said, looking down her nose. “Should I?”\n\n“…Fucking witches…”\n\n“Clear a space!”\n\nSofia and Wes moved quickly. Once they’d joined the rest of the group, Leo waved, despite the fact that there was no way that Caspar could actually see them. \n\n“We’re all good! Come on over! Or, uh, hop, or –”\n\n“Hup!”\n\nA green blur zipped over the bushes, clearing it by a full two feet before the knight came down on the other side. Caspar clanked as he landed, the frog – the tallest of the bunch – looming over them all as he rolled his head from side to side. He smiled down on them, and Leo smiled back. \n\n“Thanks for helping everyone, Caspar.”\n\n“My pleasure, Mage Leo,” he said, bowing at the waist with the same chivalrous – and kinda cool – bow that he did whenever he got thanked. “Is everyone alright?”\n\n“No!” Wes grumbled, still wiping dirt off his face. “Gah. I’ll be eating dirt all night, thanks to you!”\n\n“That’s their fault,” the demon said, nodding at the dragons. \n\n“You mean yours, for grabbing him,” Ruby said. “Speaking of which, I won the bet. So you have to keep…that…hidden for a while longer,” she said, waving her hand in the vague direction of his crotch. \n\n“…Dammit. I forgot.”\n\n“At any rate,” Caspar said, holding up his hand. “Mage Leo, are we close to whatever the compass is pointing to?”\n\n“Oh, right!” \n\nHe’d gotten so fascinated by his friends that he’d almost forgotten what they were doing in the first place. Leo pulled the compass up again, turning in place until it pointed forward again. \n\nRight, this way…this way…ooooh, it’s trembling!\n\nMust mean that they were pretty close now. Amethyst had said that the compass would point to powerful sources of magic, and while they all hoped that it would eventually point them toward…well, whoever had made him, Leo was more interested in finding the magical stuff in the world and helping people deal with it. \n\nAfter all, magic…wasn’t always nice. He wanted to make sure that the world was nice. And fun. And good. And kind. And – \n\n“Leo?” Ruby asked. \n\n“Gah! Sorry, sorry,” he said, looking down at the compass again. “Right, uh…well, it’s…wobbling, so we’re probably really close to something good.”\n\n“Well, lead on,” the demon said, walking up and putting a hand on his shoulder. “Let’s see what’s out there, huh?”\n\n#\n\nThe compass led them to a village, at which point it started to go crazy. The tip pointed straight to the middle of the small collection of wooden huts and thatched roofs, wiggling like crazy. Whatever it was in there, it was big enough to have the compass going crazy. Leo looked at it, beamed, and put the compass in his pocket. \n\n“Let’s go, everyone!” he said, pointing a floppy sleeve toward the village. “There’s magic to find!”\n\n“Yeaaaaaaah, maybe we should find out where we are first?” Ruby said, rubbing the back of her head. “I’ve never heard of a place like this hidden in a forest before.”\n\n“In addition, it might be useful to determine if there is anything sinister about this place before taking action, Mage Leo,” Caspar added. “If there is anything harming the villagers, we should see to them before taking care of the source.”\n\n“Or take advantage of it for a few, heh, payments,” Wes added, the rabbit smirking. \n\n“Wes.”\n\n“Yeah, yeah, frog-boy. Ain’t gonna take that much.”\n\n“Wes.”\n\n“Fiiiine.”\n\nLeo hadn’t thought of that. He would have run right in and figured it out as he went, but his friends were more experienced with how the world worked. They helped him, and even as he lowered his arm in embarrassment, he smiled at them in thanks. \n\nThey moved as a group, passing from the trees to the small dirt paths that ran through the small village. And it was small, much smaller than the town that Ruby and Emerald had called home before they joined the group. Leo guessed that there were maybe ten, twelve homes in the entire village, an inn – and a tiny one, at that – and a small town hall making up the whole place. Half of the houses were spread further out, too, split up by small farms.\n\nTo Leo, it still looked huge after living in the tower his whole life, but everyone else was less impressed. Everyone, that is, except for Sofia. \n\n“This is a place where stuff happens,” the gray-furred cat muttered. \n\n“What do you mean? What kinda stuff?” Leo asked as they walked past the outer bit of houses. \n\n“I mean the important stuff. The private kind of magic that nobody wants anyone to find out about,” she said, shaking her head. “…I like this kind of place.”\n\n“You would,” Ruby muttered. \n\n“H-hey, don’t get t-t-too mean about it,” Emerald said. \n\n“…Sorry.”\n\n“Hmm. It is fine.” Sofia shook her head. “Regardless, keep your eyes open. This is the kind of place where secrets live.”\n\n“Ooooooh.”\n\n“Heh, he’s excited now,” his orange friend said, shaking his head as he looked around. “Me too, honestly. But where are –”\n\n“I smell viiiiisitors!”\n\nThey stopped stock-still as the door to one of the houses they just passed swung open. An armadillo stepped out, his shirt stretched out over a long, broad shell and on the verge of ripping apart. He smiled, though, which made Leo feel more comfortable, at least. The rounded villager walked in a way that made him look like he was rolling over the ground, swaying from side to side like he was on the verge of falling over with every step as he approached them. \n\n“Mmm, new blood. Been a long time since someone came to visit our sleepy little place. I’m Malbar, the local greeter. Haven’t had a chance to actually do my job in a donkey’s years, so thanks for giving me the chance,” he said as he offered his hand. \n\n“Hi!” Leo grabbed his hand and shook it enthusiastically, pumping it up and down. “I’m Leo the Magician, and these –”\n\n“Are his friends,” Caspar said, leaning in and putting his hands on Leo’s shoulders. “And we were passing through the woods when we happened to stumble onto this quaint place. If you don’t mind, where are we, Mr. Malbar?”\n\n“Heh, no need to censor your enthusiastic friend there, sir knight.” Malbar chuckled, shaking his head as he kept up the handshake, much to Leo’s delight. “This little slice of land is Caraton.”\n\n“Please tell me it ain’t for the carrots,” Wes muttered, the rabbit rolling his eyes. “I swear, if that’s what it is –”\n\n“Nah, it’s more for the gems.”\n\nLeo yelped as Wes shoved him out of the way, the pink rabbit going nose to nose with the armadillo. \n\n“Gems?”\n\n“Heh, yeah. We used to have a whole heap of ‘em under the town, and sold a lot of ‘em off. There’s still some deposits, I reckon, but that’s for the young’uns to dig up if they want to. Thing is, I think that they got other interests these days; ain’t much for the old trade up here, not for a while now.”\n\n“Uh-huh. And where’s the mine, eh? Ya got a map or a –”\n\nWes yelped as the usual orange grip around his collar yanked him back, and Leo dragged himself back to his feet. Shaking his head, the magician adjusted his coat and nodded at Malbar. \n\n“Thanks for the greeting! Can we go in or – or is there someone else that we need to talk to first, or –”\n\n“Oh, don’t worry. Caraton will be all kinds of welcoming to new blood. I bet that you’ll get all the welcome you can handle, heh. Go on, kids. Ol’ Malbar will be meeting you at the inn later, I’ll bet you.”\n\n“Thank you, Mr. Malbar,” Caspar said, gently herding Leo and the others way from the house. “We shall keep that in mind.”\n\nThey were a few dozen steps away before the armadillo returned to his house, but Leo’s mind was already racing ahead. What-ifs and wonders and weirdness danced in his mind, and he had a hundred questions already bubbling up. \n\nWhat kind of people lived in Caraton?\n\nWere they friendly?\n\nWere they bothered by whatever the compass had picked up?\n\nWas the compass working?\n\nWas that bird coming their way naked?\n\n“OH GOD!”\n\nRuby’s sudden reaction said yes, Leo thought. \n\nAs the blue dragoness whipped her head up and around, covering her eyes, and as the demon chuckled and stepped forward with his hand under his chin and eyes narrowed in an examining, playful way, the bluebird in question walked right up and bowed at the waist. \n\n“Ladies, gentlemen, welcome to Caraton. May I just say that the seven of you are looking particularly ravishing today?” the bird said. \n\n“Why are ya waving yer dick in my face?” Wes asked, crossing his arms. \n\n“Oh, my deepest apologies, for certain. It’s just the custom here in Caraton; so far from your standard ‘civilization,’ we tend to forgo clothing.”\n\n“Wonderful…just…wonderful,” Ruby muttered. \n\nLeo looked over his shoulder. Emerald had turned so red that he looked like he’d become a completely different gemstone shade, and Caspar was blinking slowly, a faint smile on his face while trying to be polite. Sofia’s eyes had gone wide, her mouth working slowly as if whispering unspoken questions, and the last of his friends – \n\n“I see that one of you has already embraced our ways,” the bird said to the rapidly-hardening demon. “So, would I take that to mean that you’d be interested in a little hospitality, my soon-to-be-friend?”\n\n“Heh, hey, if you’re willing to give it a suck.”\n\n“Oh, you know I would be. You have such a fine shaft, and I’d love it if you were willing to let me do a few other things.”\n\n“Ho ho, if you’re that interested – long as you realize I’m staying on top.”\n\n“I’d have it no other way, of course. Shall I –”\n\n“Hey, I’m not into the whole waiting thing. On your knees, birdbrain.”\n\n“Wow. They’re real friendly here,” Leo said as the bird dropped to his knees and grabbed the demon’s dick. “Should we –”\n\n“Let’s get to the inn first, Mage Leo,” Caspar said. “Then we can figure out if we want to indulge in that kind of ‘fun’ with the locals.”\n\n“Or get a room and pretend it’s not happening. Again,” Ruby muttered. \n\n“Um…y-yeah,” Emerald said. “Just…take a break…and a breather…”\n\n“Oh, um…sure. Yeah! Let’s get a room.”\n\n#\n\n“…Are you fucking kidding me?”\n\nLeo blinked as he looked around the inn’s small common room. Two of the four tables were currently being used for some kinky purposes. One was occupied by a pair of monkeys teasing each other, reaching out with their feet and fingering each other’s pussies, while the other had a lizard and a wolf frotting with one another. \n\nRight there. \n\nIn the open. \n\nLeo didn’t have a problem with it, but he knew that Ruby wasn’t so keen. He looked at her and patted her shoulder. \n\n“It’s okay. We’ll get a room!”\n\n“…Thanks, Leo.”\n\nThey passed between the tables, the sound of casual sex filling their ears. He paused to look at the monkey girls, watching as they worked their flexible toes into each other with a strange, different sort of ease, only to get gently tugged along by Caspar before he could say anything about it. \n\nHe wasn’t entirely sure what he would have said, of course, but he supposed that was probably for the best. They were having fun, after all. Didn’t want to interrupt a good time. \n\nOnce they got to the far end, they finally got the attention of the innkeeper, an older male of the leopard persuasion. He cocked his head to the side, wiping down his countertop with a growing smile on his muzzle. \n\n“So, what brings you newcomers to Caraton?”\n\n“Magic!” Leo said, throwing his arms up with a grin. “Hi! I’m Leo the Magician, and I’m looking for magic!”\n\n“…Well, not the answer I was expecting, but better than another treasure hunter come to visit,” the leopard said, shaking his head. “Anyway, this place ain’t that big, but I got a couple of rooms for let. Three gonna be fine between you?”\n\n“That’s fine.” Ruby patted the counter. “Keys now. Please.”\n\n“Hold your horses. We need payment first. Now, much as I’d like to be like the other patrons here –”\n\n“Mmmmph! YES!” one of the monkey women shouted. \n\n“Can’t really run an inn on cum and pleasure, can ya? So, whatcha got? I’m a pretty reasonable cat.”\n\nMoney was one of the things that Leo still didn’t understand. Oh, the concept of trading money-value for item/service-value he understood well enough, but Wes said that there was more to it than just what one person wanted for what the other did. There was something called ‘value,’ and you shouldn’t give more than what the other thing was worth, even if you really, really wanted the thing. \n\nMust be why the rabbit held onto his money so tightly or something like that. Who knew, really?\n\nSo, he stepped back and let Wes do the talking. The rabbit started muttering to himself as he always did, but that just meant that he was grumpy. He was never that happy…or at least, he didn’t look like it. \n\nAs his friends negotiated with the big guy, he looked back at the common room. As much as his friends weren’t happy about the other people having sex in public – even Caspar had seemed surprised by that – it felt almost normal to him. Heck, it felt like being back in the tower in some ways, where everyone just had fun and nobody was all that bothered about it. There was none of that need to be dressed up, covered up, or anything. It had been just them – well, them minus Sofia – and that had been great. \n\nIsh. \n\nGreat-ish. \n\nLeo walked over to one of the empty tables and sat down, putting his head in his hands as he thought about it. Ruby had never been happy about the whole naked thing – but he’d fixed that. He’d done a lot to fix that, and she was happy with him now. No more anger, no more messing up – \n\nHe was fine. \n\nThey were fine. \n\nThey were all happy. \n\nHe smiled. That was a good feeling, just knowing that his friends were happy, and more, that they were happy with him. That was the best part about all this. He had friends, and they liked him, and being with him, and – \n\n“Ah!”\n\nHe blinked, staring at the white rope of goo that splattered over the table. He hadn’t been paying attention, and it was pure luck that the lizard’s cum from a table over hadn’t hit him. The lizard and wolf sagged down, panting as they lay against each other, and the wolf looked up and smiled. \n\n“Hey, sorry about that. Didn’t see you there.”\n\n“Oh, no problem! I’m Leo the Magician!”\n\n“Heh, nice to meet you. I’m Saul, and this is Wric,” the wolf said, nodding down at the lizard pressed against him. “We’re not locals, either; we were passing through a few months ago and decided to stick around.”\n\n“Oh? Are you together?”\n\n“Well, we weren’t, but we thought, what the hell, see what it’s like. Isn’t that right, Wric?”\n\n“Mmmph…I just like fucking,” Wric said, chuckling. “And it got even better when I got here.”\n\n“Was that from the magic?” Leo asked. \n\n“What magic?”\n\n“Oh, the magic that –”\n\n“Leo!” \n\nThe magician whipped his head around. Caspar had the room keys in hand and was waving them over his head. Leo nodded, giving a vague thumbs-up through the robe’s long sleeve, then turned back to the playful pair. \n\n“I gotta go, but let’s talk more in a bit! You’re interesting!”\n\n“Heh, sure, little guy, sure,” Saul said.\n\n#\n\nThey ended up splitting rooms. Emerald and Ruby would be in one room – possibly with Sofia, if they didn’t end up killing each other – while Leo was going to share a room with his first friend, once he was done getting his cock sucked somewhere out in the fields. Wes and Caspar would be in the last room, and either he or Caspar and Wes might end up sharing with Sofia if things went badly. \n\nFor now, though, they were all gathered in Caspar and Wes’s room, sitting around the beds and on the floor. Leo was in the middle, looking down at the compass again. \n\n“You’re sure it’s somewhere in the village?” Ruby asked, leaning her head on her hand. “I mean, it’s not…impossible, but couldn’t this just be a whole thing where everyone’s just all stupid-horny instead of something magic?” \n\n“’Ey, I had to spend money on these stupid rooms – none of you bozos has anything to spend – so we’re staying here for the week I paid for. Just because you don’t like the look of anyone here…”\n\n“…Ugh. Great. Another week stuck around horny nudists…”\n\nLeo kept staring down at the compass, watching as the needle kept shaking. It was swirling so much that it was impossible to tell just where the magic was; all he could say was that it was probably somewhere close to the inn, or at least near the center of the village. \n\n“Mage Leo?”\n\n“Huh?” He whipped his head up. “What?”\n\n“Are you okay?”\n\n“Oh, just thinking a lot. I mean, there’s a lot of magic here, and it’s not bad magic –”\n\n“If you’re interested in living like…that,” Ruby muttered. \n\n“Oh, but even if it’s not something you want, it’s not bad. I mean, it’s bad, but it’s not bad. I mean…” Leo groaned. “I mean, it’s not – it’s not bad like a bad-guy. It’s more ‘bad’ like ‘awww, that was a bad day.’ Does that make sense?”\n\nRuby blinked at him. He wasn’t explaining this right. \n\n“It’s like, um, it’s really powerful magic. I mean, look at the compass,” he said, passing it around. “If it’s making the compass do that, then that means it’s really, really strong. And the people here aren’t bad, but – they’re not normal, right?”\n\n“Noooooo,” Caspar said, rubbing the back of his neck. “Not really, no.”\n\n“I didn’t think so. So, that magic is probably making them do things. Weird things.”\n\n“Horny things,” Sofia muttered. “And I said it before, and I’ll say it again. This is the kind of place where stuff happens.”\n\n“Stop trying to make stuff happen. You’re never going to make ‘stuff’ happen,” Ruby said. \n\n“It sounds good.”\n\n“It sounds pompous.”\n\nTHUNK!\n\nThe impending fight was interrupted by the door swinging open. Leo whipped his head around again and stared at the missing member of their party, dick swinging back and forth between his legs and – for once – completely soft, still just a little damp from the fun that he’d had out there. \n\n“Man, I love this place,” the demon said as he walked over, taking a seat on the bed with Caspar and Emerald. “Everyone’s up for everything. And I thought that the tower was as casual as it could get.”\n\n“…I don’t even want to know,” Ruby said, holding up her hand. \n\n“I…m-might,” Emerald muttered. \n\n“Heh, we’ll talk about it later, when it won’t bother your sister.” He sighed, leaning back with one leg over the other, almost but not quite showing himself off. “Anyway, what’s the plan for staying here?”\n\n“I don’t know about you bozos, but I’m gonna look for that mine,” Wes muttered, leaning back with his hands behind his head. “Ain’t like they’ll have a ton of loot down there, but it’ll be more than I got.”\n\n“You’re going to steal from the people we’re trying to help?” Caspar asked. \n\n“Duh. It’s not like I wanna lose money on this trip.”\n\n“…You are incorrigible. One of these days, you’re going to learn that there are limits to what you can get away with.”\n\n“Yeah, well, that day’s a long way off,” Wes said with a nonchalant chuckle. \n\nEveryone else rolled their eyes, even Leo, though his was more an imitation. It just…kinda felt right. \n\n“Anyway,” Ruby said. “I’m going back downstairs; maybe they’ve stopped…having sex for a while. Should be a meal we can get…or at least a drink.”\n\n“I’ll c-come too,” Emerald said. \n\n“I’ll go, too,” Sofia said, perhaps a little too quickly as she hopped down from the bed. “I mean. I could eat.”\n\n“Well, perhaps we should all go,” Caspar said. “Safety in numbers and all that. Yes?”\n\n“Heh, yeah right,” Wes muttered, rolling onto his side. “You guys do what you want; I ain’t paying for more food. I got rations and I got my water. You guys go waste your time and money on it.”\n\n“It comes with the room,” Sofia said. \n\n“That’s what they say. I ain’t buying it.”\n\n“Suit yourself. Leo?” \n\n“Um…I’m going to go to my room for a bit. I want to read for a while.”\n\n“You okay?” the demon asked, sitting up from the bed. “You’ve been a little quiet since we got here.”\n\n“I’m fine. Probably.”\n\nThat familiar arched eyebrow under infernal horns conveyed much more concern than Leo imagined any demon ever had for other mortals. He squirmed in his robe, looking away after a few seconds. \n\n“It’ll be okay. I’m just thinking about a lot of stuff.”\n\n“Anything you want to talk about?”\n\n“Not yet. I just want to read up about this place. Maybe the innkeeper has a book or something about it. Or – or something else interesting.”\n\n“Okay, suit yourself. But we’ll be back in a bit, heh.”\n\nWith a final pat on his shoulder, Leo was left alone with Wes. The rabbit wasn’t saying anything either, which meant that he probably wanted to be left alone. Leo said his goodbyes, left the room, and walked down the hall to the other room that they’d booked. \n\nIt was a small thing with just one bed. He looked out the window for a moment, staring at the trees, and then gave the compass one more look. Still spinning. \n\n“You’re not helping,” he grumbled, then hopped onto the bed. “Okay. Books, books, books…where would I keep the books…”\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe End\n\nSummary: The first of a small series of stories involving Leo the Magician, owned and created by Ultilix. All of my friends on an adventure!”

Leo hummed to himself, the hood of his robe rising up around his cheeks – did he have cheeks? – and flopping side to side as he grinned and all but skipped through the forest. Every few steps, he’d hold his arm out and look at the compass in hand, making sure that they were still going in the right direction (which they always were), but it always pointed straight ahead. The magician smiled, waving over his shoulder.

“Isn’t this great?!”

“Yeah, yeah, real great,” his first friend, an orange-skinned demon, muttered as he dragged himself through a bush. “How do you fit through all those little gaps?”

“…I don’t know! Tiny shoulders?”

“…Heh. You saying I’m fat?”

Leo started to say something, then stopped himself. He cocked his head to the side, looked his hellish friend up and down, and tried to do the hard thing: consider what he was saying.

The silence stretched on, and the demon put his hand on his hip, cocking his head to the side, too.

“Uhhh…were you?”

“…Noooooo?” Leo half-said, half-asked, stretching the word out and hoping for a clue to the right answer in his friend’s face.

“Wow, that’s –”

“Alley-oop!”

“’Ey ‘ey, watch it – GAH!”

From the other side of the hedge came a pink-furred rabbit. Leo yelped, lifting his arms to catch Wes in a quick-spell –

But the demon was quicker. An orange hand grabbed the rabbit by the collar before he hit the ground, supporting him by a claw. Leo slowly lowered his arms as the rabbit muttered and the impish rescuer chuckled.

“Could a fatso do that?”

“Lemme go, ya ass!” Wes complained.

“Heheh, what’ll you give me for it?”

“’Ey, I was gonna be nice and tell ya frog-boy’s about to toss everyone else over, but you wanna extort me, be my guest!”

Leo blinked.

The demon blinked.

As one they leaped to the sides, dropping Wes the rest of the way. Just in time for –

“GAH!”

“AAAAAH!”

The sibling dragons came flying over the hedge next, though they held onto each other until they landed.

Leo waved at Ruby and Emerald, though neither of them waved back.

“It’s okay, it’s okay. We’re fine,” Ruby muttered, patting Emerald’s back.

“I-I know. J-j-just surprised.”

“Heh. Caspar would never hurt us, you know that.”

“I k-know, j-just a bit…b-b-bit sudden.”

“Yeah, you two might wanna move. Caspar and the witch-bitch are still coming,” the demon said, looking down at his claws in blasé fashion.

“Fuck being a cushion for that…feline,” Ruby muttered, showing fangs.

Even Leo leaned away a bit at that. He still didn’t quite understand why she hated their newest friend – or, well, he thought the cat was a friend – but she really did. Maybe he’d ask her about that later.

Ruby and Emerald darted out of the way. Wes groaned, pushing himself to all fours and shaking his head.

“Nnngh…ow.”

“Wanna bet she lands on him?”

“Gods, I hope so,” Ruby muttered.

“Heh. Leo turns off the spell in the forest if she does; I’ve missed everyone staring at my dick.”

“Is that all you think about, demon?”

Despite herself, Ruby smiled, crossing her arms.

“Fine. I bet you do the cooking later if she doesn’t.”

“Deal.”

They’re friends getting along! Yay!

“Hup!”

That was all the warning they got before the black dress and gray fur of their newest friend appeared over the top of the bushes. Wes yelped, rolling sideways, and –

Just managed to get out from under the booster boots that Sofia wore. The dark-furred feline landed with a soft click-thud in front of the bush, brushing her skirt down once more, and the rabbit groaned as he lay on his side.

“Can ya stop that?! I ain’t some mattress for all of ya to jump on!”

“I could make you one,” Sofia said, looking down her nose. “Should I?”

“…Fucking witches…”

“Clear a space!”

Sofia and Wes moved quickly. Once they’d joined the rest of the group, Leo waved, despite the fact that there was no way that Caspar could actually see them.

“We’re all good! Come on over! Or, uh, hop, or –”

“Hup!”

A green blur zipped over the bushes, clearing it by a full two feet before the knight came down on the other side. Caspar clanked as he landed, the frog – the tallest of the bunch – looming over them all as he rolled his head from side to side. He smiled down on them, and Leo smiled back.

“Thanks for helping everyone, Caspar.”

“My pleasure, Mage Leo,” he said, bowing at the waist with the same chivalrous – and kinda cool – bow that he did whenever he got thanked. “Is everyone alright?”

“No!” Wes grumbled, still wiping dirt off his face. “Gah. I’ll be eating dirt all night, thanks to you!”

“That’s their fault,” the demon said, nodding at the dragons.

“You mean yours, for grabbing him,” Ruby said. “Speaking of which, I won the bet. So you have to keep…that…hidden for a while longer,” she said, waving her hand in the vague direction of his crotch.

“…Dammit. I forgot.”

“At any rate,” Caspar said, holding up his hand. “Mage Leo, are we close to whatever the compass is pointing to?”

“Oh, right!”

He’d gotten so fascinated by his friends that he’d almost forgotten what they were doing in the first place. Leo pulled the compass up again, turning in place until it pointed forward again.

Right, this way…this way…ooooh, it’s trembling!

Must mean that they were pretty close now. Amethyst had said that the compass would point to powerful sources of magic, and while they all hoped that it would eventually point them toward…well, whoever had made him, Leo was more interested in finding the magical stuff in the world and helping people deal with it.

After all, magic…wasn’t always nice. He wanted to make sure that the world was nice. And fun. And good. And kind. And –

“Leo?” Ruby asked.

“Gah! Sorry, sorry,” he said, looking down at the compass again. “Right, uh…well, it’s…wobbling, so we’re probably really close to something good.”

“Well, lead on,” the demon said, walking up and putting a hand on his shoulder. “Let’s see what’s out there, huh?”

#

The compass led them to a village, at which point it started to go crazy. The tip pointed straight to the middle of the small collection of wooden huts and thatched roofs, wiggling like crazy. Whatever it was in there, it was big enough to have the compass going crazy. Leo looked at it, beamed, and put the compass in his pocket.

“Let’s go, everyone!” he said, pointing a floppy sleeve toward the village. “There’s magic to find!”

“Yeaaaaaaah, maybe we should find out where we are first?” Ruby said, rubbing the back of her head. “I’ve never heard of a place like this hidden in a forest before.”

“In addition, it might be useful to determine if there is anything sinister about this place before taking action, Mage Leo,” Caspar added. “If there is anything harming the villagers, we should see to them before taking care of the source.”

“Or take advantage of it for a few, heh, payments,” Wes added, the rabbit smirking.

“Wes.”

“Yeah, yeah, frog-boy. Ain’t gonna take that much.”

“Wes.”

“Fiiiine.”

Leo hadn’t thought of that. He would have run right in and figured it out as he went, but his friends were more experienced with how the world worked. They helped him, and even as he lowered his arm in embarrassment, he smiled at them in thanks.

They moved as a group, passing from the trees to the small dirt paths that ran through the small village. And it was small, much smaller than the town that Ruby and Emerald had called home before they joined the group. Leo guessed that there were maybe ten, twelve homes in the entire village, an inn – and a tiny one, at that – and a small town hall making up the whole place. Half of the houses were spread further out, too, split up by small farms.

To Leo, it still looked huge after living in the tower his whole life, but everyone else was less impressed. Everyone, that is, except for Sofia.

“This is a place where stuff happens,” the gray-furred cat muttered.

“What do you mean? What kinda stuff?” Leo asked as they walked past the outer bit of houses.

“I mean the important stuff. The private kind of magic that nobody wants anyone to find out about,” she said, shaking her head. “…I like this kind of place.”

“You would,” Ruby muttered.

“H-hey, don’t get t-t-too mean about it,” Emerald said.

“…Sorry.”

“Hmm. It is fine.” Sofia shook her head. “Regardless, keep your eyes open. This is the kind of place where secrets live.”

“Ooooooh.”

“Heh, he’s excited now,” his orange friend said, shaking his head as he looked around. “Me too, honestly. But where are –”

“I smell viiiiisitors!”

They stopped stock-still as the door to one of the houses they just passed swung open.

“Mmm, new blood. Been a long time since someone came to visit our sleepy little place. I’m Malbar, the local greeter. Haven’t had a chance to actually do my job in a donkey’s years, so thanks for giving me the chance,” he said as he offered his hand.

“Hi!” Leo grabbed his hand and shook it enthusiastically, pumping it up and down. “I’m Leo the Magician, and these –”

“Are his friends,” Caspar said, leaning in and putting his hands on Leo’s shoulders. “And we were passing through the woods when we happened to stumble onto this quaint place. If you don’t mind, where are we, Mr. Malbar?”

“Heh, no need to censor your enthusiastic friend there, sir knight.” Malbar chuckled, shaking his head as he kept up the handshake, much to Leo’s delight. “This little slice of land is Caraton.”

“Please tell me it ain’t for the carrots,” Wes muttered, the rabbit rolling his eyes. “I swear, if that’s what it is –”

“Nah, it’s more for the gems.”

Leo yelped as Wes shoved him out of the way, the pink rabbit going nose to nose with the armadillo.

“Gems?”

“Heh, yeah. We used to have a whole heap of ‘em under the town, and sold a lot of ‘em off. There’s still some deposits, I reckon, but that’s for the young’uns to dig up if they want to. Thing is, I think that they got other interests these days; ain’t much for the old trade up here, not for a while now.”

“Uh-huh. And where’s the mine, eh? Ya got a map or a –”

Wes yelped as the usual orange grip around his collar yanked him back, and Leo dragged himself back to his feet. Shaking his head, the magician adjusted his coat and nodded at Malbar.

“Thanks for the greeting! Can we go in or – or is there someone else that we need to talk to first, or –”

“Oh, don’t worry. Caraton will be all kinds of welcoming to new blood. I bet that you’ll get all the welcome you can handle, heh. Go on, kids. Ol’ Malbar will be meeting you at the inn later, I’ll bet you.”

“Thank you, Mr. Malbar,” Caspar said, gently herding Leo and the others way from the house. “We shall keep that in mind.”

They were a few dozen steps away before the armadillo returned to his house, but Leo’s mind was already racing ahead. What-ifs and wonders and weirdness danced in his mind, and he had a hundred questions already bubbling up.

What kind of people lived in Caraton?

Were they friendly?

Were they bothered by whatever the compass had picked up?

Was the compass working?

Was that bird coming their way naked?

“OH GOD!”

Ruby’s sudden reaction said yes, Leo thought.

As the blue dragoness whipped her head up and around, covering her eyes, and as the demon chuckled and stepped forward with his hand under his chin and eyes narrowed in an examining, playful way, the bluebird in question walked right up and bowed at the waist.

“Ladies, gentlemen, welcome to Caraton. May I just say that the seven of you are looking particularly ravishing today?” the bird said.

“Why are ya waving yer dick in my face?” Wes asked, crossing his arms.

“Oh, my deepest apologies, for certain. It’s just the custom here in Caraton; so far from your standard ‘civilization,’ we tend to forgo clothing.”

“Wonderful…just…wonderful,” Ruby muttered.

Leo looked over his shoulder. Emerald had turned so red that he looked like he’d become a completely different gemstone shade, and Caspar was blinking slowly, a faint smile on his face while trying to be polite. Sofia’s eyes had gone wide, her mouth working slowly as if whispering unspoken questions, and the last of his friends –

“I see that one of you has already embraced our ways,” the bird said to the rapidly-hardening demon. “So, would I take that to mean that you’d be interested in a little hospitality, my soon-to-be-friend?”

“Heh, hey, if you’re willing to give it a suck.”

“Oh, you know I would be. You have such a fine shaft, and I’d love it if you were willing to let me do a few other things.”

“Ho ho, if you’re that interested – long as you realize I’m staying on top.”

“I’d have it no other way, of course. Shall I –”

“Hey, I’m not into the whole waiting thing. On your knees, birdbrain.”

“Wow. They’re real friendly here,” Leo said as the bird dropped to his knees and grabbed the demon’s dick. “Should we –”

“Let’s get to the inn first, Mage Leo,” Caspar said. “Then we can figure out if we want to indulge in that kind of ‘fun’ with the locals.”

“Or get a room and pretend it’s not happening. Again,” Ruby muttered.

“Um…y-yeah,” Emerald said. “Just…take a break…and a breather…”

“Oh, um…sure. Yeah! Let’s get a room.”

#

“…Are you fucking kidding me?”

Leo blinked as he looked around the inn’s small common room. Two of the four tables were currently being used for some kinky purposes. One was occupied by a pair of monkeys teasing each other, reaching out with their feet and fingering each other’s pussies, while the other had a lizard and a wolf frotting with one another.

Right there.

In the open.

Leo didn’t have a problem with it, but he knew that Ruby wasn’t so keen. He looked at her and patted her shoulder.

“It’s okay. We’ll get a room!”

“…Thanks, Leo.”

They passed between the tables, the sound of casual sex filling their ears. He paused to look at the monkey girls, watching as they worked their flexible toes into each other with a strange, different sort of ease, only to get gently tugged along by Caspar before he could say anything about it.

He wasn’t entirely sure what he would have said, of course, but he supposed that was probably for the best. They were having fun, after all. Didn’t want to interrupt a good time.

Once they got to the far end, they finally got the attention of the innkeeper, an older male of the leopard persuasion. He cocked his head to the side, wiping down his countertop with a growing smile on his muzzle.

“So, what brings you newcomers to Caraton?”

“Magic!” Leo said, throwing his arms up with a grin. “Hi! I’m Leo the Magician, and I’m looking for magic!”

“…Well, not the answer I was expecting, but better than another treasure hunter come to visit,” the leopard said, shaking his head. “Anyway, this place ain’t that big, but I got a couple of rooms for let. Three gonna be fine between you?”

“That’s fine.” Ruby patted the counter. “Keys now. Please.”

“Hold your horses. We need payment first. Now, much as I’d like to be like the other patrons here –”

“Mmmmph! YES!” one of the monkey women shouted.

“Can’t really run an inn on cum and pleasure, can ya? So, whatcha got? I’m a pretty reasonable cat.”

Money was one of the things that Leo still didn’t understand. Oh, the concept of trading money-value for item/service-value he understood well enough, but Wes said that there was more to it than just what one person wanted for what the other did. There was something called ‘value,’ and you shouldn’t give more than what the other thing was worth, even if you really, really wanted the thing.

Must be why the rabbit held onto his money so tightly or something like that. Who knew, really?

So, he stepped back and let Wes do the talking. The rabbit started muttering to himself as he always did, but that just meant that he was grumpy. He was never that happy…or at least, he didn’t look like it.

As his friends negotiated with the big guy, he looked back at the common room.

Ish.

Great-ish.

Leo walked over to one of the empty tables and sat down, putting his head in his hands as he thought about it. Ruby had never been happy about the whole naked thing – but he’d fixed that. He’d done a lot to fix that, and she was happy with him now. No more anger, no more messing up –

He was fine.

They were fine.

They were all happy.

He smiled. That was a good feeling, just knowing that his friends were happy, and more, that they were happy with him. That was the best part about all this. He had friends, and they liked him, and being with him, and –

“Ah!”

He blinked, staring at the white rope of goo that splattered over the table. He hadn’t been paying attention, and it was pure luck that the lizard’s cum from a table over hadn’t hit him. The lizard and wolf sagged down, panting as they lay against each other, and the wolf looked up and smiled.

“Hey, sorry about that. Didn’t see you there.”

“Oh, no problem! I’m Leo the Magician!”

“Heh, nice to meet you. I’m Saul, and this is Wric,” the wolf said, nodding down at the lizard pressed against him. “We’re not locals, either; we were passing through a few months ago and decided to stick around.”

“Oh? Are you together?”

“Well, we weren’t, but we thought, what the hell, see what it’s like. Isn’t that right, Wric?”

“Mmmph…I just like fucking,” Wric said, chuckling. “And it got even better when I got here.”

“Was that from the magic?” Leo asked.

“What magic?”

“Oh, the magic that –”

“Leo!”

The magician whipped his head around. Caspar had the room keys in hand and was waving them over his head. Leo nodded, giving a vague thumbs-up through the robe’s long sleeve, then turned back to the playful pair.

“I gotta go, but let’s talk more in a bit! You’re interesting!”

“Heh, sure, little guy, sure,” Saul said.

#

They ended up splitting rooms.

For now, though, they were all gathered in Caspar and Wes’s room, sitting around the beds and on the floor. Leo was in the middle, looking down at the compass again.

“You’re sure it’s somewhere in the village?” Ruby asked, leaning her head on her hand. “I mean, it’s not…impossible, but couldn’t this just be a whole thing where everyone’s just all stupid-horny instead of something magic?”

“’Ey, I had to spend money on these stupid rooms – none of you bozos has anything to spend – so we’re staying here for the week I paid for. Just because you don’t like the look of anyone here…”

“…Ugh. Great. Another week stuck around horny nudists…”

Leo kept staring down at the compass, watching as the needle kept shaking. It was swirling so much that it was impossible to tell just where the magic was; all he could say was that it was probably somewhere close to the inn, or at least near the center of the village.

“Mage Leo?”

“Huh?” He whipped his head up. “What?”

“Are you okay?”

“Oh, just thinking a lot. I mean, there’s a lot of magic here, and it’s not bad magic –”

“If you’re interested in living like…that,” Ruby muttered.

“Oh, but even if it’s not something you want, it’s not bad. I mean, it’s bad, but it’s not bad. I mean…” Leo groaned. “I mean, it’s not – it’s not bad like a bad-guy. It’s more ‘bad’ like ‘awww, that was a bad day.’ Does that make sense?”

Ruby blinked at him. He wasn’t explaining this right.

“It’s like, um, it’s really powerful magic. I mean, look at the compass,” he said, passing it around. “If it’s making the compass do that, then that means it’s really, really strong. And the people here aren’t bad, but – they’re not normal, right?”

“Noooooo,” Caspar said, rubbing the back of his neck. “Not really, no.”

“I didn’t think so. So, that magic is probably making them do things. Weird things.”

“Horny things,” Sofia muttered. “And I said it before, and I’ll say it again. This is the kind of place where stuff happens.”

“Stop trying to make stuff happen. You’re never going to make ‘stuff’ happen,” Ruby said.

“It sounds good.”

“It sounds pompous.”

THUNK!

The impending fight was interrupted by the door swinging open. Leo whipped his head around again and stared at the missing member of their party, dick swinging back and forth between his legs and – for once – completely soft, still just a little damp from the fun that he’d had out there.

“Man, I love this place,” the demon said as he walked over, taking a seat on the bed with Caspar and Emerald. “Everyone’s up for everything. And I thought that the tower was as casual as it could get.”

“…I don’t even want to know,” Ruby said, holding up her hand.

“I…m-might,” Emerald muttered.

“Heh, we’ll talk about it later, when it won’t bother your sister.” He sighed, leaning back with one leg over the other, almost but not quite showing himself off. “Anyway, what’s the plan for staying here?”

“I don’t know about you bozos, but I’m gonna look for that mine,” Wes muttered, leaning back with his hands behind his head. “Ain’t like they’ll have a ton of loot down there, but it’ll be more than I got.”

“You’re going to steal from the people we’re trying to help?” Caspar asked.

“Duh. It’s not like I wanna lose money on this trip.”

“…You are incorrigible. One of these days, you’re going to learn that there are limits to what you can get away with.”

“Yeah, well, that day’s a long way off,” Wes said with a nonchalant chuckle.

Everyone else rolled their eyes, even Leo, though his was more an imitation. It just…kinda felt right.

“Anyway,” Ruby said. “I’m going back downstairs; maybe they’ve stopped…having sex for a while. Should be a meal we can get…or at least a drink.”

“I’ll c-come too,” Emerald said.

“I’ll go, too,” Sofia said, perhaps a little too quickly as she hopped down from the bed. “I mean. I could eat.”

“Well, perhaps we should all go,” Caspar said. “Safety in numbers and all that. Yes?”

“Heh, yeah right,” Wes muttered, rolling onto his side. “You guys do what you want; I ain’t paying for more food. I got rations and I got my water. You guys go waste your time and money on it.”

“It comes with the room,” Sofia said.

“That’s what they say. I ain’t buying it.”

“Suit yourself. Leo?”

“Um…I’m going to go to my room for a bit. I want to read for a while.”

“You okay?” the demon asked, sitting up from the bed. “You’ve been a little quiet since we got here.”

“I’m fine. Probably.”

That familiar arched eyebrow under infernal horns conveyed much more concern than Leo imagined any demon ever had for other mortals. He squirmed in his robe, looking away after a few seconds.

“It’ll be okay. I’m just thinking about a lot of stuff.”

“Anything you want to talk about?”

“Not yet. I just want to read up about this place. Maybe the innkeeper has a book or something about it. Or – or something else interesting.”

“Okay, suit yourself. But we’ll be back in a bit, heh.”

With a final pat on his shoulder, Leo was left alone with Wes. The rabbit wasn’t saying anything either, which meant that he probably wanted to be left alone. Leo said his goodbyes, left the room, and walked down the hall to the other room that they’d booked.

It was a small thing with just one bed. He looked out the window for a moment, staring at the trees, and then gave the compass one more look. Still spinning.

“You’re not helping,” he grumbled, then hopped onto the bed. “Okay. Books, books, books…where would I keep the books…”

The End

Summary: The first of a small series of stories involving Leo the Magician, owned and created by Ultilix.
