Panthora was the largest multi-race city in the whole world, starting next to the ocean and going deep into dry and high mountains. It was also the most advanced city the planet had to offer, containing districts covered in snow, or rainforests. Massive walls separate the areas of the city to keep the climate upkeep manageable.

Any anthro that ever entered the city after its creation reacted similarly, pure awe. It was a marvel of ingenuity and a sign of peace and prosperity. Whatever race you belonged to, you would find your place. Polar bears just needed a short train ride to meet gazelles, alligators, or tigers in their own little home, made exactly to their needs.

One of those Tigers named Adrian was currently working out in his favorite gym in the Jungle district, constant rain outside gave him the right mood to develop his body. He was rather big for his race’s size and his body was well shaped, but all of that was at the cost of his general intelligence as he rather spent training than learning. He was not a total moron, but he could by far not be called intelligent. 

He made up for that, by being a really nice guy, generally loved by other gym members as he was always up to help newcomers or old members alike. Being so loved, he knew people all over the city, loving to explore it ever since the 23-year-old was born here. While being so loved, he was still single, the reason being that he was fully gay, not one straight fiber in his body. Seeing that being gay was openly accepted but still not fully integrated, he had a hard time finding a partner.

Adrian had a special day today though because he would finally meet two of his best friends for the first day tomorrow. He had two online friends which he considered his best friends out of all the people he knew. Yes, Adrian was loved, but few in the gym could fully connect and all the others were just nice, not more. 

The other two, however, were special, when he met them online out of boredom, he immediately connected with them. 

One of those friends was actually from the same school as Adrian, but they never met in real life, having different schedules thanks to a small age difference. 

That guy was Shigeo and he was sitting at home, playing a videogame he just got, nervously fidgeting with the controls, barely managing to get to the end of the level as he tried to keep calm.
He was a 20-year-old panda with a nice fluffy and budging belly. Shy and geeky, the panda was almost the exact opposite of Adrian, but that was what brought the two together. The shy panda was also gay, but other than Adrian, he was still in the closet, his upbringing still being rather old school.

Shigeo’s shy, drawn-back, introverted personality pulled Adrian closer and made sure that the two were hitting it off almost immediately. 
The fact that Shigeo was from outside of the city, an exchange student, only caused more interest from the other two friends in the little group.

After many talks, chats, and plans, the other two finally managed to convince Shigeo to go out and meet them, Adrian being the leading force in the convincing attempts as their last member took some convincing of his own.

To the far South of the city was what was widely known as the rodent district. One of the districts with the largest population, but the smallest surface area. 
Inside the district were multiple skyscrapers of normal size with so many small windows it was very hard to count them. The towers were converted to have space for a lot of the rather small rodent population.

All around the towers were much smaller houses, at most reaching up to a bigger species's hips if they were to walk through the district.
All of them look like sturdy overengineered dollhouses.

The population mostly traveled on the roads but some also took the sky trains, trains hanging upside down on rails, supported by the roofs of the buildings that got built inside the districts thanks to the massive population and the much easier time to build a marvel of engineering for that size, opposed to the bigger races.

Inside that district lived Bret, a young 13-year-old Rat boy of rather small stature, even smaller than others of his size. The young boy was a nice light brown fur color and thanks to his young years, he was still unaware of his own orientation.

Bret was almost as stressed about the meeting between him and his friends as Shigeo was for multiple reasons.
The first is that he never told his friends what he was. They didn't know he was what was known as a micro, one of the tiny races, and they didn't know of his young age either. All he ever told them was that he was not keen on exploring the city and that he was male. 

Nonetheless, somehow his loner personality caught Adrian’s and Shigeo’s attention, and they continued to hang out with him online to the point where Bret forgot about the massive fact that he was afraid of leaving the rodent district. He heard many horror stories of people dying, getting crushed under the feet of bigger races to even getting eaten by larger predator races. He didn't know how true they were, but that didn't change the fact that he was quite afraid and the thought of meeting his friends outside gave him slight panic.

Bret walked around his room nervously, dreading tomorrow, worrying how his friends would react to the revelation, and hoping that nothing bad would happen.

Meanwhile, Shigeo stopped playing, looking around the room that he was offered for being an exchange student. it was nice and spacious but the bamboo poster and the mini bamboo plant were a weird present he received when he first arrived. He knew of the general belief that pandas loved bamboo, and that wasn't wrong, but that was like hanging up a poster of fries or microwave carrots. No one decorates their house with that.

He didn't feel like taking it off though, the people meant well, at least he hoped. 
Thinking about tomorrow, he was getting excited. After they finished their plans of meeting, he noticed that there was a convention in town for all game, movie, and anime lovers. As much as he was into books and anime, he definitely wanted to bring his friends there. Adrian also mentioned them going to look at his favorite gym, and Bert, the mysterious one of their group mentioned a movie in the cinema he wanted to watch too.

The day was bound to be exciting and entertaining. That being said, it was getting late and he was much too excited to risk not getting any sleep, so he went to bed, trying to push away his mix of anxiety and excitement.

Adrian has arrived at home as well, taking a shower after his workout. He was just as excited as the others, hoping that the next day would end wonderfully. What he was especially interested in was how his friends looked.

He and Shigeo were quite sure that Bret was a younger fellow, his way of writing in their chats giving that away, but they didn't know how young, or even what race he was. 

After the shower, he tried off using the shower-sized dryer that he bought to be put into his shower. It wasn't cheap but thanks to him working a nice job on the side to studying, he was able to afford a few nice things.

And it was definitely preferable over using a tiny hair dryer or letting the fur dry on its own. That was always a hassle when he was younger.

Finishing up, he entered his bedroom, spotting his wall-sized scratching post, and wondered if he should put it away, not wanting to scare them if they ended in his home. After all, he knew that Shigeo was a panda, but if Bret was a prey animal, it might scare him instinctually. 

Deciding it was for the best, he put it into his walk-in dresser. Even if his looks told a different picture, he was a nice and empathetic person.
After that, he went into his bed as well, trying to get as much sleep as he could to make sure he had the power the next day to be his best.

It didn't take long for the next day to appear, or at least they didn't notice it as all three of them slept surprisingly well even with all the anxiety and excitement that each of them felt. Adrian was the only one who was only excited. 

Getting up, Adrian dressed in his most comfortable, meet friends, clothes he had, loose shorts reaching his knees, a hoodie with his gym's logo on the back, and simple sneakers wrapped around his paws. He wasn't a fan of shoes, like most predators, since the shoes had to fit their paw's shapes without slipping off, and they took quite some feeling away from them as well, but it was common courtesy to wear shoes. 

Getting out of his house, he made his way to the meeting point they talked about, a little coffee shop in the eastern climate district. It was the closest to Shigeo and the temperature was suited and comfortable for all of them. 

Walking up to the tram station, he got on, waiting as it slowly made its way to his next stop, one of his favorite transportation modes in the town, the water train. It was a train, that instead of on tracks swam on an artificial river and was surprisingly fast for basically being a very long boat. However, even if it was fast, it was still the slower of the many ways of moving around the town. The reason he loved it so much was how calm and nice it was to ride on it.

Getting off of the cable car, he walked over to the train that just arrived and opened its doors. Another of the town's many marvels was its perfectly timed public transport system. All of them somehow working together.

While Adrian was on his way to the coffee shop, Shigeo was already there, living quite close to it. When they talked about where to meet, he immediately jumped to the decision to go there as they had his favorite sweet from his home country. So it was no wonder that Shigeo was already sitting down eating his sweets while he waited for the other two.

Bret on the other hand had a harder time reaching his goal. He was still standing at the BIG gate out of his district, swallowing hard as he looked at the approaching Bus that he decided to use. Thankfully for him, most public transports were suited for them to use even with their small size, but that didn't change the fact that it was still quite scary for any first-time user of such massive vehicles.

Giving himself a last push, he rushed to the bus, barely entering as the door closed behind him. Paying for his ticket, he, sat down, slightly shaking, and looked out of the window. 

A bigger and older Mole-rat sat next to him. Like many of his race, he had quite bad vision but he did feel Bret's anxiety and looked at him.
“ Hey there young man. First time driving out into the big world? Don't worry, just keep your head on your shoulders and it will be all fine. It's not as scary as they make it out to be.”

Bret looked at the old man and slightly calmed down. “u-uhm thanks, yes. i-i will be fine.”

He did stop shaking as much as before but his anxiety was not fully gone. But at least he could focus on reaching his target. The thought of how they would react to seeing him did keep him uneasy though.

Adrian soon reached the coffee shop and walked in, looking around before he spotted the only panda that was currently in it. Walking up to him, he smiled at him. “Shigeo I assume?”
Sitting down on the table, he saw Shigeo look at him, away from his second little snack that he was at now, and smile.

Shigeo was seeing Adrian for the first time and his first impression was quite, good. he blushed a little as he saw the well-built body of his friend.
“A- uhm yes. Yes. Adrian, I take it then. It's good seeing you for the first time after all the online chats we had.”

Adrian saw Shigeo slightly blush through his cheek fur and smiled at him. The panda scratched his neck nervously. 
“It's good to see you too my friend. Has Bret already arrived?” 


Shigeo shook his head. “ No, I just hope he is coming. he always felt like the total loner type, he didn't even tell us what he was yet. What do you think he might be? Maybe he is from one of those more skittish preys and is afraid?”

Adrian shrugged, giving Shigeo a bright careless smile, showing some of his fangs. “ I am sure he is fine, you will see.” 

The smile caused Shigeo to blush again and look back down on his plate. “ U-uhm, do you want something to drink too or should we wait?”

The buff tiger leaned back.” I will wait, let us drink together. He still has some time till the date we set.”

Meanwhile, Bret was dreading to leave the bus as he had to walk quite a bit to reach the next one on the other side of the parking lot. Thankfully, the old man put a hand on his shoulder before stepping out, giving him the push he needed to get out as well. 

Taking a leap into the unknown, he looked around, seeing many big races walking around without even paying attention to him. As he walked closer to the big bus, he saw an older rat looking at him and motioning to the side where he saw an especially marked path to the other busses. Not a single big one even went close to that path, making it safe for any rodents to walk around.

Thanking the old man with a quick nod, he rushed down the path, still looking around nervously before he reached his next way of transport, just barely getting on again. 
The rest of the ride went by without any other problems and thankfully it stopped quite close to the coffee shop.

Leaving the bus, Bret looked around and spotted another of those marked paths right next to the normal sidewalk following closely to the side of the building. Only when he passed doors or alleyways, he had to be careful and before he knew it, the tiny rat boy reached his goal.

Walking in through the massive door, he was immediately greeted by a nice, but massive waitress. 
“ Oh, hello there, How can I help you?” She squatted down and looked at him. 

Bret, still rather afraid, swallowed hard before he spoke up. “ U-uhm, I c-came here to meet some friends. A tiger and panda.”

Noticing his nervousness, the waiter smiled and nodded, reaching down and offering him to jump up on her hands. “ Jump up, they are already sitting on a table, I will bring you to them. Sadly we have no seats for your size that we can put on the big tables.”

She motioned to separate tables on a higher elevation that were specifically made for small races, meaning that, unlike others that have little chairs or tables they put on big ones when needed, they went all the way to make small tables mounted permanently in a safe space.

Bret blushed at her offer and got on her hand clumsily. The small boy held onto her tightly to not fall but she was exceptionally careful and he relaxed as he got carried towards a buff tiger and a plump panda sitting on a table, chatting with each other.

As she stopped in front of the table, the two looked up at her and saw the tiny rat boy in her hands. “ Hello gentlemen, this boy said you were waiting for him. I will put him here, if you need anything call me or I will be back in a few minutes.”

She did just that and let Bret jump off her hand as she lowered him to the table’s surface. 
Looking up, he got really nervous again as the two stared at him. 
“ H-hi.” He froze, all his nervousness back in full blast as he feared them not accepting him or worse.

Adrian was the first to speak as he stared at the boy. 
“ Bret? Wow, I mean we thought you were young but you look like you are 10. I also didn't expect you to be so small. U- uhm, not that I mind, I just didn't expect it.”

Bret swallowed and nodded. “ i-I am 13 and I was worried you guys wouldn’t accept me if I told you I am a micro so I kept it a secret.”

Shigeo leaned closer down, looking at Bret. “ Heh, well, I don't mind either of that, you look cute. And that means there are more sweets for me. Not much you can get down anyway. 
Say, Bret, you look like you had quite a day, you are shaking. Is that just because of us?”

Bret looked down and saw that indeed, he was shaking like a leaf. Adrian noticed as well, but he didn't want to be pushy about it.
“ Well, Bret, let's get you something to drink and a snack first, tell us how you have been. Shigeo and I have already talked a bit.”

Adrian lifted his arm, trying to distract the boy with some food to make him relax a little. The waitress came back quite quickly and took their orders. While Shigeo ordered another little cake, Adrian ordered a high-protein milkshake and Bret took a little cheesecake. Rat size of course. 

Adrian looked back at Bret. “ So, how was your day?”.

Bret took a deep breath, deciding that he didn't want to keep secrets from them, especially after they had just accepted him without any problem.
“Uhm, honestly? I was terrified the whole day and last night. I was afraid you wouldn't like me or that the stories were true and someone would step on me. Or worse.”

Shigeo peeked up at that. “ Step on you? I mean I know that stuff can happen, even for us big ones accidents happen, but I never heard of that. You guys have your save zones after all.”

Adrian nodded. “ I heard that stuff like that was not unheard of when the city got built and wasn't as great as it is now. But that was ages ago. From what I heard from others, pretty much everyone follows the rule to pay attention to you guys. But that makes sense why I see so few of your type out of your district. Don't worry Bret, if you stick with us, nothing will happen to you.”

Bret smiled at them and nodded. “uhm, thanks, guys. That does help. So, what were the plans today again? I know that we wanted to go to the movies, but I was so nervous I forgot the rest.”

Shigeo nodded at that. “ no worries, and we also wanted to go to the convention, i am sure you will love it there too. As for Adrian's idea, he wanted to show his favorite gym to us. I am not the biggest fan of sports, but it might be interesting.” 

Adrian nodded and laughed out heartily. “ well if you guys don't like it we don't need to return. But I am sure you will enjoy the people there. They are all really nice.
Anyway, first, let's eat, then we will go to the gym first, the convention won't start till the afternoon, and the movie should start a bit after we leave the gym. So we have enough time.”

Bret nodded and sat on his tiny butt. Just when he did, the waitress returned and placed their orders in front of them. Bret's cheesecake was quite small just as ordered, giving the waitress a little bit of a hard time to place it down without accidentally dropping it. 

“ Here you go. I hope you will enjoy it. If you need anything else just call.” The waitress's eyes seemed to linger on top of Adrian a little longer than before. It looked like she was checking out his chest and arms. 

Once she left, Shigeo smiled. “ It seems she was checking you out, what do you think.”

Adrian smiled and shook his head. “ She is cute, but not my type, I like someone else more.” His eyes were still on Shigeo, making the panda blush before Adrian looked away and started to drink his milkshake.

“ I-I see. I think I have someone I like more too.”

Soon, the group finished their food and they left the cafe, Bret was sitting on Adrian's shoulder, blushing embarrassed. “u-uhm, you don't have to carry me you know.”

“Of course, I will carry you. I told you, as long as you are with us, nothing will happen to you.”

Shigeo agreed. “ Yeah, don't worry and relax. It's nothing for us.”

Not able to fight it, Bret did relax, letting them carry him to their next destination. They once again took the water train, chatting in it till they got back to Adrian's gym. The constant rain was thankfully blocked by walkway shades, keeping the water off of them.

Entering the gym, they were immediately greeted by Adrian's friends and got introduced. From a big and buff elephant to a slender zebra. 

Adrian led them around and even showed them a little room just for micros. Bret started to like the place too and even Shigeo took an interest in some of the machines. The two tried out some of them and Adrian's friends helped them out. At least Shigeo, as Bret's room was too small for them to go in, so the most they could do was put an arm in and help him lift the weights or show him how a machine works. Bret's favorite was a big wheel to run inside. Lovingly known as the hamster wheel.

“ See guys, I told you you would like it.”

The other two nodded. Shigeo however was the one that reminded them of their next goal.
“ I did like it, but we have to go if we want to catch the movie.” 
Bret nodded. “ Yeah, we have to go, i wanted to see that movie since they released the trailer. I heard a gerbil takes the main lead. I have no clue how that is possible in a movie with macros, but I heard it's really good.”

laughing at his sudden excitement, they left the gym. bret blushed again as this time Shigeo was carrying him. 
Feeling the panda’s fur, Bret had to speak out loud. “ Wow, you are really soft Shigeo, not as hard as Adrian. Uhm, n-not that Adrian is bad.” he felt embarrassed now even mentioning any of that. 

The two older guys just laughing at that. Shigeo answered him. 
“ Well, you see, that guy over there is covered in big and nice muscles, making his short fur feel harder since his muscles are so great.
Meanwhile, I am just soft on the inside and outside.”

Adrian smiled at Shigeo, the barely covered compliments reaching the tiger. “ heh, well, I can make you have such nice muscles too if you come to the gym once in a while. But the way you are now, you are really good for hugs. Or for carrying little cute boys.”

Bret blushed even more, this time the reason for his embarrassment changed.

It took them just a bit to get from the gym to the cinema, entering it, they saw that the movie was about to start and they had just enough time to get the tickets while Shigeo, who still carried Bret, got some popcorn and soda for them. 

The workers were really nice to them, especially Bret. From offering help in deciding on the right food to giving him a tiny pillow and other such things. They even got a discount for him since Adrian decided it was best to keep the boy on their shoulders.

Entering the movie hall, they sat down in their row, waiting for the movie to start. Bret sitting on Adrian's shoulders this time, a soft pillow under his butt. He was once again embarrassed sitting up there, but slowly he got used to it, even enjoying being so high up now.

As the movie started Bret found out why the movie was so hyped. It was a high-action movie with a micro and a macro lead, working together perfectly to get revenge on the son of a criminal boss who killed the macro's pet and destroyed the micro’s car. 

After two hours which felt like only 30 minutes, the excited Bret and Shigeo got up, chatting actively while Adrian just smiled and followed them. All three of them enjoyed the movie greatly. 

“ That was so great, I mean, every action felt so perfect, did you see how he took care of those three people while the other one ran after that a-hole?”

Shigeo nodded. “ I especially love the detail, Did you notice how often he reloaded, not like those other action movies where they have infinite bullets till it was convenient to run out.”

Bret and Shigeo continued to discuss the movie and its many great scenes while Adrian slowly led them out and to the bus stop, where their next goal already awaited.

Sitting down, the two finally stopped talking and relaxed a little. 
Adrian enjoyed listening to the two talk about it too, so he smiled the whole time. “ So you two are finally done? Should I be worried that that's all we are talking about from now on?” 
He teased the two a little, making both embarrassed but soon after he laughed out, showing that he was just teasing them.

While they drove to their destination, Shigeo slowly inched closer to Adrian, Shoulder to shoulder, only to flinch when Adrian moved. Shigeo was quite surprised when Adrian put an arm on the backrest behind him.

Too soon, they arrived at the convention and Shigeo had to get up. The whole day he felt a strange pull towards the tiger next to him and he didn't know why but he felt like he had to get closer to him.

Entering the convention, they got their tickets in the shape of armbands, with Bret getting a waistband with glowing stripes to make sure he was not overlooked. Another detail that showed Bret that the big ones did care about him and the smaller races.

Walking in, the convention was filled with people of all sizes, races, genders, and cosplays.

As they walked around, Bret suddenly squeaked as he saw a big wolf cosplayed as the Gerbil from the movie with an actual gerbil on his shoulder dressed as the big partner who just so happened to be a wolf in the movie.

Adrian laughed out again seeing that. “ Hah, I love that, it fits perfectly. That is funny.”

Shigeo giggled next to them but his attention got pulled elsewhere. The Convention was a mixed one for anyone who loved books, movies, and anime. And Shigeo just so happened to love anime. And it just so happened that they entered the part that featured the anime part of the convention.

Adrian had to run after Shigeo for once as the panda rushed to whatever looked interesting to him. A bag in hand with all the gifts he got from the different stalls. Bret and Adrian followed closely each getting their own little souvenirs. At some point, they even got some alcoholic drinks, even if they had to get Bret something better suited for his age.

While Adrian wasn't the biggest fan of anime, he still enjoyed walking around and found that one or other anime to watch when he felt like sitting down and lazing one day. Bret on the other hand liked anime too, although not as much as Shigeo, and found a few things of interest. 

After quite some time, they went through all of the anime section and went to the movie section next. All three of them stopped at a stall that sold statues, pin-ups, and other things of new movies, the one they watched was also present.

As a token of their friendship, Adrian decided to buy a pin-up for each of them. The Gerbil for Shigeo, his wolf companion for Bret, and the movie logo for himself.

The pin-up for Bret was almost as big as his torso, acting more like a massive poster or wall decoration than a pin-up, but he still loved it, even if he didn't know how to get it home.

The three walked through the movie section some more, getting another drink on the way, taking one hour till they reached the book section. Shigeo once again took the lead in looking through as many as he could with Bret and Adrian following close behind him. 

Shigeo even bought a book for himself, not showing them the title. Which of course only caused the other two to be much more interested in what it was.

“ Come on Shigeo, what is it?” Bret asked over and over again while Adrian looked at the panda and crossed his arms, smiling. “ I would like to know too, is it so embarrassing you can't tell us? Is it a romance book about a knight and his princess?”

Shigeo shook his head and looked away before he sighed, he felt awful not telling them for some reason, but it was really embarrassing.
“ well, i-its a book about a tiger adventurer meeting a panda monk from a distant land and, uhm well, its action and romance.”

The other two could see his cheeks red like tomatoes even under all that fur. Bret had a nice little laugh at that while Adrian grinned from cheek to cheek. “That's a nice story, I don't know why you would be so embarrassed. hehe. A tiger and a panda, huh? I might need to read it too once you are finished.”

After they had their fun at the cost of shigeo, the three finished the last part of the convention, getting a last drink, before they walked out, all three of them feeling happy and quite relaxed. 

Both Adrian and Shigeo feeling slightly lightheaded from the drinks while Bret was just enjoying getting carried and being able to look so far.

Looking up at the sky and then at the time, Shigeo tsked. “ Hey, it's already really late, do we really want to let Bret go home on his own? You guys could crash at my place if you want.”

Adrian and Bret looked at each other before Adrian nodded. “ Yeah, I think that's for the better, what do you think Bret, would your parents allow that?”

Bret thought about that before he shook his head. “ They think I am at a friend's place, if they hear that I am with you guys, they might have a fit.”

Shigeo thought about it while Adrian closed his eyes, trying to think of something too.

Shigeo suddenly found the solution to that though. “ What if Adrian plays the part of your friend's parent? Wouldn't that work? Do they know your friend's parents?”

Bret thought about that before he nodded. “ That might work, they never met his parents, and I wasn't too detailed about which friend I would visit anyway. Uhm, Adrian, say you are Ren's dad. They know little about him, just that we are good friends. And I can ask Ren to cover for me.”

Adrian nodded a big smile back on his face. “ Sure thing, buddy. Let's do this.”

Bret gave Adrian his home number and Adrian called his parents. All that Bret and Shigeo could hear was Adrian's answers.

“ Hello, do I speak with Bret's mother? Yes… No, he is fine. I am Ren's dad and since it's so late they were asking if Bret could sleep over… uhu, yes... yes... no…. Sure thing…. Tomorrow at 12? ok…. Yeah, no problem, I will make sure they behave….. Oh, no he has been an angel actually. Ok, Thanks, ma'am.”

Adrian stopped the call and smiled from one cheek to the other. “ She said yes. Let's go.”

Bret threw his arms into the air, excited. Shigeo smiling as well. “ Perfect. Then I will show you the room I stay at right now.”

Together they walked to the next public transport and drove to Shigeo’s place. It took them another 30 minutes to make a big circle back to the coffee shop and a bit further to the apartment.

Reaching the Building, they entered and Shigeo brought them to his door. Opening up, They saw a cozy room with lots of books and CDs on shelves. It was clear that the panda was quite into those, especially since he collected them after moving to the city as a foreign student.

“ Feel like you are at home. It's not big but it is mine.” Shigeo showed them around, the big bed being the centerpiece of the room. Looking quite comfortable and after they sat on it, also felt like it.

By now, Bret, as young as he was, grew quite tired. “ Hey guys, I think I am falling asleep.”

Shigeo grabbed the boy carefully and put him on a pillow he placed to the side so that they didn't accidentally squish him. “ No worries, get some shut-eye, the day was quite long.”

Adrian agreed with the panda. “ Yeah, rest a bit buddy, we will bring you home tomorrow.”

Yawning, the rat boy dropped onto the pillow and relaxed, resting on it with his eyes shut. 

The other two meanwhile went to the small apartment kitchen and shared a last shot of booze, waiting for the boy to drift off to sleep.
