Riley the Riolu was the offspring of two Lucarios, along with his brother Randy, sister Rosa, and two other unnamed siblings. At a very young age, he was crossing the street when a drunk driver struck the family of six, killing his parents, unnamed siblings, and critically injuring Riley and Rosa. Randy managed to get Riley and Rosa to a nearby nursery, where Gunter the Pichu/Pikachu hybrid and his sister Gina were. Immediately, Gunter was worried for Riley and they became best friends from that day forward, despite Gunter already being best friends with Dawnlite the Umbreon, while Randy, who was still a Riolu, lied to Riley and acted like Riley was his son. Dawnlite had been given to Skurry due to an incident where he was nearly killed by Gina unintentionally due to her ignorance, while Gunter was unaware Skurry tormented Dawnlite back at the lab they were held captive in before moving to the house that belonged to Gunter. At one point, Gunter fed both Riley and Rosa a cake which had similar effects to an Everstone, meaning neither of them would never be able to evolve into a Lucario. Riley would always ask Randy about his mom, thinking Randy was his father, and Randy would lie and say she abandoned them. Eventually, Gunter got suspicious of this and secretly proved to Riley that Randy was his brother. Riley was furious about this, and had a mental breakdown and began to cry. Gunter would tell him that Randy was probably trying to protect him since their parents were dead, and Randy was furious with Gunter for telling him the truth, but felt he couldn't hide it any longer. He ended up leaving and was never seen again, so Riley ended up staying near the alleyway where Gunter lived. Gunter knew Skurry liked fetish videos, so he would secretly feed Riley random foods mixed with laxatives and film the aftermath for Skurry, often telling Riley to hold it in. Eventually, things got confusing because of another Riley Gunter knew, who happened to be related to Skurry's best friend Foxy. So, Riley was referred to as Riley R or Riley Riolu from then on. Eventually, Gunter would become  best friends with Riley the Riolu, with his old best friend being Dawnlite.
