It was mother. “What? He seriously did that?! Jen-Jeni. Have you been drinking? What?! Five bottles? Just because they keep filling your glass doesn’t mean you—look, I’m coming to get you. All right? I’ll be there as soon as I can. Okay. Oh-okay. Eh… yes. I still have that as my ringtone. I promise I’ll change it before I leave. Okay. See you soon. I lo—Jen. Bye.” Neko exhaled loudly.\n“What stupid thing did my dad do?”\nNeko sighed. “He made the reservations but never had intentions of being there. Or at least, from knowing Gotoh forever, he probably made them last year after he forgot the anniversary and just noticed the date on his schedule a few hours ago and sent a fax saying he couldn’t make it. Still, no excuse.”\nMy paralyzing gaze was super effective.\n“What? What are you staring about?”\n“Change that ringtone before you go to get mother.”\nA light bulb went off. “Oh. Right.” He flipped open his phone and dropped it to the couch and fell to one knee, putting himself at the same level with me. I looked into his amber-colored eyes and felt my pulse jump a beat. Smoother than buttered silk he slid both paws on either side of my face and kissed my mouth.\nIt was firm.\nAnd deep.\nAnd I lost track of time for at least ten seconds.\n“I’m here for you, Matilda.
