Even Jill is back to her old self. Her good mood didn't last long when Bob returned. He was still mad at her, but remained away from her. He didn't even want coffee from her. During these days, Dixie and Erik saw something new. The weight of every harvest Jill made, no matter how small, was written down by Jade. Back in the office, Jade would go to the website of the supermarket that brings them the groceries. There she looks up the current prices of everything Jill harvested that day. By doing this, Jade can count how much the shelter saves each year. The previous years Jill had nearly a whole months worth of budget saved with the vegetable garden. That might not look much, but seeing the financial problems they had recently, every cent saved counts. They don't tell the BAP this, because then they get less money. They get for each Ani a fixed amount each month. And if a new Ani is send to the shelter, they can ask for a bit extra. But saving a month's worth of money on home grown vegetables, means you have some extra money to spend each year. They can't tell the BAP about this, as when the harvest fails they need to buy extra food. This only raises the question, how it's possible that they didn't had enough money recently. Its only possible if someone stole it, or if someone can't do the bookkeeping. According to Bob, it was Theresa that did the financial side of things. When he started working here, Theresa wasn't really good at it and he helped her with it. For about a year they did it together. He too can't say how the financial problem was possible, as he had no real access to it since he stopped doing it. \n\nWith the latest harvest in the freezer, Jill wants to work outside some more. It's basically her task and she doesn't want to waste a good day. It's now the best weather for some large scale gardening. The vegetable garden is done for today, but the rest of the garden isn't. And now her hand is healed again, she just wants to keep going. She was ordered to make sure her hand gets enough rest for several days, just to make sure its healed properly. But Jill needs some heavy equipment and maybe even the tractor to move it around. This means she has to ask a staff member to move the stuff around as she is forbidden to drive the tractor. She sees this as bullying. Theresa did learn Jill how to drive it, as it was necessary at the time. However, the key needed, can only be given by a staff member. Asking Bob is definitely not going to work. Dixie and Erik might not understand why she needs the key. So that leaves only Jade as an option. Jade knows Jill can drive the tractor, but wants to follow the rules. Jill is forbidden to drive the tractor as she might use it to escape the shelter. Jill knows how to open the gate, so that won't stop her if she really wants to go. However, Jill has proven for years she can be trusted, but that was probably only because of Theresa. The tractor is a bit old and unless you know how to drive it, you will stall it a few times before you even got it out of the shed. I tried once and failed. And I have a driving license. To make it even worse, the mow the lawn, you need to convert the tractor into a lawnmower. If you get a company to just mow the lawn, you will lose a small fortune a year. That is why Theresa did these things herself with the help of Jill. The BAP doesn't really pay for those things. So if you want the garden to look nice, Jill has to do it. Nobody else here knows how.''\n\n``So Jill is the gardener?''\n\n``How it looks now, is my work'' says Jill with pride. ``I have been doing this for several years now.''\n\nErik looks at Jill in disbelieve. Is Jill really doing all the gardening? Is she really that good at it? For several seconds, he runs every scenario through his mind. Then he comes up with a solution.\n\n``Jill, I will give you the key, but I will keep my eyes on you. One mistake and I will sell the tractor personally. You understand me?''\n\n``Yes I do'' answers Jill pleased.\n\nErik reaches behind Dixie and grabs the key. Before Jill can get it, he warns Jill again. One mistake, even looking at him the wrong way, and he sells the tractor and Jill will get a permanent ban on working in the garden, with the exception of the vegetable garden. He doesn't give Jill the key just yet. He walks with her to the shed. There, they convert the tractor into a lawnmower by hooking it up on the back of it. Jill wanted to do that first, as that is the biggest task that is preferably done in a single day. When she is done, she will look what she has to do next. When the conversion is complete, Erik wants to try and drive it out of the shed himself. He stalls it just seconds after he tries to drive forward. He quickly gives up and lets Jill drive. As the ``veteran'', she drives it out of the shed with ease. She lets Erik sit on the front of the tractor and drives him back. The other Ani are a bit surprised to see Jill drive. With the exception of Pippa, they have seen it before. But as Jill rarely drives, it's always a surprise. Pippa is completely surprised. She understands that no Ani in a shelter is allowed to do such things. If that is true, then why is Jill doing it? How is she able to do these things? How can Pippa do them too? What does this all mean for Jill?s place in the shelter?\n\nBecause they can't empty the lawn in the back yard, as the boys are playing there with Bob to make sure they won't fight, Jill has to start in the front yard. She might even have to mow the lawn on the back yard tomorrow, when they are doing their chores. Erik has taken a seat at the front door. He even went indoors to grab a chair from the office. Sitting at the front door, he keeps an eye on Jill. After a while, he gets company of Dixie. She brought some coffee and a second chair. Side by side, they watch Jill drive around like a professional. It is clearly visible that Jill has done this many times.\n\n``How is it going?'' asks Dixie between two sips of coffee.\n\n``It's like looking paint dry.''\n\n``That boring?''\n\n``It is. Without coffee, I might have been falling asleep in an hour or so. How is it going in the office?''\n\n``Not much to do. Jade and Bob are busy with the Ani. All the paperwork is done. I'm now basically waiting for Eva to return from school.''\n\n``You almost wish for problems.''\n\n``Not me'' says Dixie before drinking the last sip of coffee. ``I prefer it like this. No problems, easy work.''\n\n``Want to sit here for a while?''\n\n\"O, yeah. Time to relax for a while.''\n\nDixie places her empty mug on the ground next to her and gets comfortable. In front of her, Jill still rides around.\n\n``Everything ready for this afternoon?'' asks Erik curious.\n\n``All done. We only have to tell the Ani about it. It will be done during lunch.''\n\nFor the rest of the time until lunch, Erik and Dixie stay at the front door and Jill remains mowing the lawn. When it's time for lunch, Jade and the Ani set the table. Only Jill doesn't help, as she is still mowing the lawn. When the others are inside, Jill could mow the grass in the backyard. She doesn't want anybody near her when she drives around. When she is finally called in, she is already mowing the last bit. After parking the tractor next to the backdoor, Jill walks inside. She gives Erik the key, but she needs it back again after lunch. She still has the mow a little bit in the front yard, that she skipped to do the backyard first, and park the tractor back in the shed. When that is done, she is going to relax for the rest of the day.\n\nLittle does Jill know, but her whole afternoon isn't going to as relaxing as she was thinking. During lunch, they get some news. A new Ani is arriving this afternoon. Details remain a mystery to the Ani, but the staff knows. The 15 year old Taylor is send to the shelter. He is a possessive loner. For some reason he is always alone and has no friends. When he has something, he refuses to share it, even it's a ball to play with. They tried to help him in a normal shelter, but they couldn't. They simply don't have the time and expertise to do so. Taylor might not live for long here, but they need to help him.\n\nAfter lunch, a good observer can figure out a something about the new Ani. They don't know if it's a boy or a girl, but when Bob and Erik are preparing a bedroom on the boys side of the building, they know at least that. Jill doesn't see it happen and doesn't hear the gossip about it. She is too busy with mowing. When she got the key back, Erik ordered her to be done before the van arrives to drop off the new Ani. Without knowing a specific time, Jill has to work fast and she doesn't like it. She hates it when she has to rush and do things less good then she wants. Even with rushing, she isn't finished when the van arrives. She is literally mowing the last few meters when the gate opens. If she wants to escape, this is the perfect time. The gate is open and she drives a tractor with enough fuel to reach the city centre. While looking back at the shelter, she sees that Erik and Dixie are waiting at the front door. When the van is past the gate and it closes, Jill puts the tractor back in gear. The gears have three speed settings. Neutral, low and high. A second gearstick is to select forward or reverse. Jill had to pull up the lawnmower and wait for the van to pass, so she put the gears into neutral. While driving, she always keeps it in the low gear. She has to be careful driving around. It's also for things as mowing where you have to go slow, or you will destroy the grass. High gear is more for open roads. Jill revs the engine a bit and steers off the grass. Once on the driveway, she slowly drives after the van. If she would have gotten on the open road, they would have send the police after her. She could even end up in prison for the rest of her live because of it. Back at the front door, the van parked in a bad spot. It's now blocking the path for Jill. She has to park there and wait, of drive through the plants and destroy them in the process. While on the way there, Jill thinks of a lie to explain why she drives around on a tractor, if they ask. She will claim she is just a gardener that is hired to do some gardening. This lie can work, as she wears an old shirt from an actual landscaping company. There is a small logo on the front and a big one on the back. Green Hills landscaping solutions. Jill doesn't know if the company still exists, but she found the shirt once while sorting out old clothes. It was her size and she could buy it. Since that day, it's her work shirt. As slow as she can, she parks carefully behind the van and just waits. She even turns the engine off. From where she is sitting, she has good view on the new arrival. When he gets out of the van, Jill gets bigger eyes. Taylor is a fox too. He isn't the best looking, he is more average, but he's still attractive. She estimates he is about 15 years old. While looking at him, she remembers what her master said. She needs a lover. She once dated Marvin a bit, but he quickly dropped her when she had a few issues with her aggression. How he has his eyes on Snow. The only other she could date is Dave, but he is only 12 and she doesn't really like his aggression towards Marvin all the time. She knows he can be nice, but for now he isn't an option she is willing to take. The only other boy is Timmy. He is definitely not an option. He is cute and cuddly, he is also only 9 and so small. He looks like a toddler next to Jill. While thinking about love, Jill gets comfortable on the tractor. She even swings her feet forward and places them on the front of the tractor. He has more to do then to talk with a gardener, even its looking weird to see an Ani drive around at a shelter. He gets in the van and says goodbye. When he is near the gate, Jade opens it again. After the gate is closed, everybody can take a breath again. This went well, but nobody is willing to repeat it. While Taylor is taken inside, Jill is ordered to clean up. While Taylor is inside the office for a moment, Jill parks the tractor back in the shed. Then she runs inside to change clothes. Because she can't disturb them in the office, she takes the key with her. In her room, she hides it in her closet while she washes herself. Dressed again, she runs downstairs and waits in the living room. Taylor will be introduced in a few minutes. A few minutes later, Taylor is indeed introduced. He is surprised that Jill does live here, drives a tractor and was lying the whole time. While he gets to know the others, Jill passes the key to Erik. He will hang it back in the office. Jill does get a warning. If she ever tries a stunt like today again, it will be the last time ever. For the rest of the day, Jill doesn't want do much. For what she did today, she can't relax just yet. Dixie starts to order her around. She has to make coffee again, the previous pot was drained by Dixie, she has to help in the kitchen later to make dinner and for now, she has to show Taylor around. Dixie places her empty mug on the ground next to her and gets comfortable. In front of her, Jill still rides around.
``Everything ready for this afternoon?'' asks Erik curious.
``All done. We only have to tell the Ani about it. It will be done during lunch.''
For the rest of the time until lunch, Erik and Dixie stay at the front door and Jill remains mowing the lawn. When it's time for lunch, Jade and the Ani set the table. Only Jill doesn't help, as she is still mowing the lawn. When the others are inside, Jill could mow the grass in the backyard. She doesn't want anybody near her when she drives around. When she is finally called in, she is already mowing the last bit. After parking the tractor next to the backdoor, Jill walks inside. She gives Erik the key, but she needs it back again after lunch. She still has the mow a little bit in the front yard, that she skipped to do the backyard first, and park the tractor back in the shed. When that is done, she is going to relax for the rest of the day.
Little does Jill know, but her whole afternoon isn't going to as relaxing as she was thinking. During lunch, they get some news. A new Ani is arriving this afternoon. Details remain a mystery to the Ani, but the staff knows. The 15 year old Taylor is send to the shelter. He is a possessive loner. For some reason he is always alone and has no friends. When he has something, he refuses to share it, even it's a ball to play with. They tried to help him in a normal shelter, but they couldn't. They simply don't have the time and expertise to do so. Taylor might not live for long here, but they need to help him.
After lunch, a good observer can figure out a something about the new Ani. They don't know if it's a boy or a girl, but when Bob and Erik are preparing a bedroom on the boys side of the building, they know at least that. Jill doesn't see it happen and doesn't hear the gossip about it. She is too busy with mowing. When she got the key back, Erik ordered her to be done before the van arrives to drop off the new Ani. Without knowing a specific time, Jill has to work fast and she doesn't like it. She hates it when she has to rush and do things less good then she wants. Even with rushing, she isn't finished when the van arrives. She is literally mowing the last few meters when the gate opens. If she wants to escape, this is the perfect time. The gate is open and she drives a tractor with enough fuel to reach the city centre. While looking back at the shelter, she sees that Erik and Dixie are waiting at the front door. When the van is past the gate and it closes, Jill puts the tractor back in gear. The gears have three speed settings. Neutral, low and high. A second gearstick is to select forward or reverse. Jill had to pull up the lawnmower and wait for the van to pass, so she put the gears into neutral. While driving, she always keeps it in the low gear. She has to be careful driving around. It's also for things as mowing where you have to go slow, or you will destroy the grass. High gear is more for open roads. Jill revs the engine a bit and steers off the grass. Once on the driveway, she slowly drives after the van. If she would have gotten on the open road, they would have send the police after her. She could even end up in prison for the rest of her live because of it. Back at the front door, the van parked in a bad spot. It's now blocking the path for Jill. She has to park there and wait, of drive through the plants and destroy them in the process. While on the way there, Jill thinks of a lie to explain why she drives around on a tractor, if they ask. She will claim she is just a gardener that is hired to do some gardening. This lie can work, as she wears an old shirt from an actual landscaping company. There is a small logo on the front and a big one on the back. Green Hills landscaping solutions. Jill doesn't know if the company still exists, but she found the shirt once while sorting out old clothes. It was her size and she could buy it. Since that day, it's her work shirt. As slow as she can, she parks carefully behind the van and just waits. She even turns the engine off. From where she is sitting, she has good view on the new arrival. When he gets out of the van, Jill gets bigger eyes. Taylor is a fox too. He isn't the best looking, he is more average, but he's still attractive. She estimates he is about 15 years old. While looking at him, she remembers what her master said. She needs a lover. She once dated Marvin a bit, but he quickly dropped her when she had a few issues with her aggression. How he has his eyes on Snow. The only other she could date is Dave, but he is only 12 and she doesn't really like his aggression towards Marvin all the time. She knows he can be nice, but for now he isn't an option she is willing to take. The only other boy is Timmy. He is definitely not an option. He is cute and cuddly, he is also only 9 and so small. He looks like a toddler next to Jill. While thinking about love, Jill gets comfortable on the tractor. She even swings her feet forward and places them on the front of the tractor. As long as the van is parked here, she has to wait. She keeps staring at Taylor while the others are doing the papers and chat a bit. When he looks in her direction, she waves at him a bit playfully. He waves back. He would like to go to her, but he has to stay where he is now.
When the van driver finally wants to go, he spots Jill on the tractor. This makes him curious. How can an Ani in a shelter drive a tractor? He saw her when he drove past the gate, but didn't really thought much about it. He was busy driving to the front door. Now, he takes a good look at her.
``Can I help you with something?'' asks Jill surprised about the attention she gets.
``Do you live here?'' asks the van driver.
``No.''
Jill has to keep nerves under control. Her lies have to sound real.
``I just do some landscaping.''
``Really?'' asks the van driver surprised.
``I would love to get going again, but you're blocking the way.''
Jill and the van driver look at each other in silence for a few seconds. The other hold their breaths. If this goes wrong, they will get some serious problems. Jill looks calm and relaxed, but inside she is about to crack. Then, the van driver had enough. He has more to do then to talk with a gardener, even its looking weird to see an Ani drive around at a shelter. He gets in the van and says goodbye. When he is near the gate, Jade opens it again. After the gate is closed, everybody can take a breath again. This went well, but nobody is willing to repeat it. While Taylor is taken inside, Jill is ordered to clean up. While Taylor is inside the office for a moment, Jill parks the tractor back in the shed. Then she runs inside to change clothes. Because she can't disturb them in the office, she takes the key with her. In her room, she hides it in her closet while she washes herself. Dressed again, she runs downstairs and waits in the living room. Taylor will be introduced in a few minutes. A few minutes later, Taylor is indeed introduced. He is surprised that Jill does live here, drives a tractor and was lying the whole time. While he gets to know the others, Jill passes the key to Erik. He will hang it back in the office. Jill does get a warning. If she ever tries a stunt like today again, it will be the last time ever. For the rest of the day, Jill doesn't want do much. For what she did today, she can't relax just yet. Dixie starts to order her around. She has to make coffee again, the previous pot was drained by Dixie, she has to help in the kitchen later to make dinner and for now, she has to show Taylor around. Jill knows, out of all the Ani, the most of the building. Jill doesn't really mind that. Because, how many times can she hang around a guy she might fall in love with?
Falling in love is just what Jill is doing. Being close to Taylor a lot, sparks something inside Jill. They apparently have lots of things in common. They like a few of the same things. Even though he doesn't have to, he still wanted to help Jill in the kitchen. Later that evening, when Jill is finally going to bed, Jill has pleasant thoughts. About half an hour later, Jill looks out of her room. She gets a big a big smile on her face while she turns the lights off. This night will be good, with maybe more to come.
