While the sun is barely rising above the horizon, everybody is still vast asleep. Only those who are working early, are waking up. In the Ani shelter and luxurious country estate Fallstaf Manor, for a brief second, an alarm clock goes off. Its barely 6:30 in the morning, but one of its residents is already getting out of bet. As a place where troubled, and often traumatized, Ani live, you might expect the someone of the staff is the first to get out of bed. It's not. It's the fox Ani Jill. With her 20 years, she is the oldest Ani that lives her. She came here about 5 years ago. She was a wreck with an aggressive personality disorder, APD for short. She lived 14 years, since she was born, as an illegal pit fighter. It was only because the police raided the building that she was found, otherwise she might still be fighting today. After spending about a year in a special behavioral institute, she was given permission to go to Fallstaf Manor. It's a special shelter where Ani like Jill have to live for several years before they can go to a normal shelter. And its only there, that an Ani can go to school and such. Jill never went to school and could only learn from old schoolbooks she could get from shelter owner Theresa. Jill likes Theresa. She is the mother Jill never had. Theresa was the only one who wanted to give Jill a chance after she could leave the institute. Others said she was too dangerous. Some even said she just had to go to jail for the rest of her life.\n\nJust like every morning, Jill is already up before everybody else. She dresses up quickly and goes downstairs. In the kitchen, Jill starts making coffee. She knows that Theresa will be up in about 15 minutes. When the coffee is dripping in the pot, Jill goes to the front door. She unlocks it and goes outside. After stretching a bit, she starts with her morning routine. Every day, she runs at least 4 laps around the building followed by some more stretching and various other activities. She likes to alter these every day. Sometimes she does some boxing moves and another day she does pushups. It doesn't matter for her what kind of weather it is outside, Jill still goes outside to sport. She even runs all the way to the gate, to get the newspaper from the mailbox. She then puts it in the mailbox of the front-door. Theresa will then get it from there. By the time Jill is done, she has about 30 minutes to wash herself before breakfast. The other Ani don't even know what Jill is doing so early. They only know she is already washed and dressed by the time they get out of bed.\n\nWhile Jill does her exercises outside, inside, Theresa is getting out of bed. After washing and getting dressed, she walks slowly to the front-door. There she smiles as she sees the newspaper in the mailbox. She grabs it and goes for the kitchen. There she finds a full pot of coffee. After filling a mug and taking a sip, she tastes the delicious taste of hot coffee, almost made to perfection. She thanks Jill for making this. If she didn't had Jill to make these pots of coffee, she wouldn't have any idea how to get through the day. Jill makes most of the coffee during the day and has learned how to make some of the best coffee you can think off. After taking another sip, Theresa takes a seat at the dinner-table. She just has enough time to read the newspaper before everybody gets out of bed for breakfast. Every now and then, she can see in the corner of her eyes Jill run by one of the windows. She will be done any time now. By the time Theresa is at the last page, Jill walks in, wearing shorts and a shirt. Sweat stains underneath her arms and on her back.\n\n``Good morning'' says Theresa before taking the last sip of coffee. ``Good coffee.''\n\n``Thanks. Breakfast in 30?''\n\n``Yes.''\n\nJill turns around and says she is back in 20. She takes a quick jog upstairs. Downstairs, Theresa walks to the office. The rest of the staff arrives around 8:15. Until then, Theresa is the only staff-member at the shelter. She is the only one that lives here. The others, Jade and Bob, live in town. They have families there. Theresa doesn't. In a way, Jill could be seen as her daughter.\n\nIn the office, Theresa starts up her computer. She wants to get a bit of a head start before the others arrive. In the 30 minutes she has until breakfast, she might be able to read a few emails and even answer them too. Just like always, there are a few emails that need her immediate attention. And one of them pops out. It's from the Bureau for Ani Placements, the government agency that regulates and oversees all Ani that live in shelters, prisons and institutes or are going to live there. They also control all funding for the shelters. In a way, they are Theresa?s boss. Today the email is about a possible new Ani for the shelter. Theresa got a short version of the girl?s file. Page one is a picture of a feline, definitely a Lynx, with grey fur and brown hair and she doesn't look happy. She looks mad. Theresa quickly looks further. If the picture is an indication about the girl?s personality and possibly problems, it's a red flag. Theresa gets right. The girl, named Pippa, is a bit of a problem. She is 14 and has tried to strangle a staff-member in the previous shelter to get out. Pippa doesn't like others. She doesn't like rules. And she definitely doesn't like shelters. The previous one was a normal shelter, as there was no indication that Pippa was dangerous. She was just a homeless girl who got on the wrong side of the law as a thief. Instead of sending her to prison, she was send to a normal shelter from where she eventually could go to school and become a normal citizen. Pippa had other ideas. From day one she was a dangerous rebel that didn't hesitate to beat up others. When that didn't give the result she wanted, she used a shirt to try to strangle a staff-member. She got arrested and locked up at the police station. If Theresa can't help her, she goes straight to jail for an attempted murder without any chance of release. No other shelter is willing to help her. Theresa reads and rereads the file. She can't believe that a young girl is capable of strangling someone. She fears that Pippa is filled with problems. Problems that even she can't fix. Suddenly, there is a hard knock on the office door. Theresa even scares of it. She quickly looks up and finds Jill at the door.\n\n``Interesting emails?'' asks Jill playful.\n\n``Just some work emails.''\n\n``Breakfast is ready in a few minutes.''\n\nTheresa looks at the clock on the screen in front of her. She completely missed the fact that the other Ani are already downstairs and setting the table. She quickly follows Jill to get her much needed breakfast. While Jill and Theresa are already awake, the others are barely awake. Some want to sleep in, but Theresa won't let it happen. Every meal is made and eaten together. They have to get out of bed at 7:15 for breakfast and every Ani that is a minor, goes to bed at times that Theresa orders. There are only two Ani who can make their own bedtime. The first is Jill, as she is already 20. The second is the white furred canine Marvin. He is 17. The others often hate them for it. They too want to stay up late, but rules are rules. In about a year, Jill and Marvin are joined by the lovely blond white furred feline Snow. She is 15 and already counting the days to her sixteenth birthday. Then, she can stay up late too, unless she gets send to a new shelter. There, they might have different rules and she can go to school. That would mean she has to go to bed early too, as she has to get up early again for school. Little does everybody know, Snow has been sneaking around the shelter late at night several times. She has seen what Jill, Marvin and Theresa are doing when the others are gone to bed. She thought very different things would happen, but there was nothing. They just watched a movie, eat some popcorn or potato chips and chatted with each other. She doesn't understand why she can't do that too. Many nights, she has been awake, thinking about it. She still hasn't figured it out yet.\n\nBreakfast is eaten mostly in silence, as most are still half asleep, but some are chatting a bit. Jill, who sits next to Theresa, usually remains quiet. She isn't a talkative person. Theresa usually talks, but not today. She keeps thinking about that email she got. She needs to have a staff meeting about it.\n\n``Your are unusually quiet'' says Jill soft to Theresa.\n\n``Just a lot on my mind today.''\n\n``Nothing bad, I hope.''\n\n``Some is.''\n\n``Good luck with that.''\n\nTheresa leans a bit closer to Jill.\n\n``After breakfast, come to the office. I'll show you.''\n\nJill gives Theresa a surprised look. She usually doesn't share anything from the emails, unless it directly involves Jill. For the rest of breakfast, Jill wonders what is going on. She even gets a bit of an uncomfortable feeling from it. She would love to ask what is going on, but Theresa is quiet again and Jill knows that she doesn't share any work related information at the table.\n\nDirectly after breakfast, Jill follows Theresa to the office. The others go upstairs to wash themselves and to get dressed. Only Snow stays behind. Her main problem is a massive minority complex. She never goes to the bathroom if there are others, and she shares the girls bathroom only with Jill. While they go upstairs, she cleans up the table. When she is done and walks to the stairs, she hears Theresa and Jill talk. The office door is open. She stops to listen.\n\n``I still can't believe it'' says Jill. ``This must be a joke or something.''\n\n``It's from the B.A.P., so I doubt it's a joke.''\n\n``If she is so dangerous, why not send her to jail immediately?''\n\n``I don't know. Maybe they want to give her a second chance.''\n\n``I wouldn't.''\n\n``No?''\n\n``Never. Someone like her, has to go to jail. What if she succeeds? Who is then guilty? She? Or the staff of the shelter she lives in? If she tried it and failed, she will try again.''\n\nSnow doesn't understand. About who are they talking? A new girl for the shelter? Can Jill decide if she comes here? Suddenly, Jill says she hears something just outside the office. Snow quickly runs for the stairs and hides there. While she stays quiet, Jill looks outside the office, but sees nothing. When Jill walks back in the office, she says she often wonders if the building is haunted or something. At the stairs, Snow curses in silence. She had to be more careful. She knows an Ani has good hearing and Jill must have heard her. As quietly as she can, she goes upstairs too. In her mind she keeps thinking about what she heard. In her room, she grabs what she needs and goes to the bathroom. She is barely brushing her teeth when Jill walks in. She too is going to brush her teeth. This gives Snow an uncomfortable feeling. She has a minority complex and is also shorter than other girls of her age. Its only because she has breasts, otherwise you might see her as a 13 year old. When standing next to Jill, her short size makes Jill even bigger. Jill is big, but you have to say tall when she is around. Jill is as tall as a door and muscular enough to be as wide as one too. Jill holds the world record of tallest Ani ever recorded and often curses her length. Snow always feels like a little child next to Jill. She knows Jill is only brushing her teeth, so she slows down and waits until Jill leaves again before she washes herself. When Jill is gone, she quickly washes herself and rushes to get dressed. She almost runs downstairs. By now, Theresa is done making a list of chores that have to be done today. Every Ani has at least 2 chores to do, next to things as doing their laundry. The list is hung up on a message board next to the office. Every Ani gathers to see what they have to do. The quicker they do it, the quicker they can do what they want. Some are happy with their chores, some are not.\n\nJill: floors and garage.\n\nSnow: girls bathroom and toilets.\n\nMarvin: floors and garbage.\n\nTimmy: garage and dusting.\n\nDave: boys bathroom and garbage.\n\nEverybody sees that Marvin and Dave are put together for the garbage task. They all know, it might end up in disaster. Marvin is territorial and insecure. The 12 year old canine Dave shows aggression and wants to be the boss over Marvin, despite his shorter size. Theresa doesn't really like it when she has to put them together, but they must learn to live as friends. They are lucky, though. Garbage is one of the most simple chores you can get. It's just putting the garbage dumpsters outside so that the truck can empty them and when they are empty, take them back inside. Snow isn't so happy. Doing a bathroom on your own takes several hours and she has to do all the toilets on the ground floor too. It has happened several times that the boys left a ``gift'' behind. Snow isn't going to clean that up. With no saying in who does what, they just get to work. Marvin and Dave take out the garbage, and have one of their fights. Snow begins with the toilets as they are still relatively unused today. Timmy and Jill quickly sweep the floor of the garage. They want to be done before Bob and Jade arrive. Jade rides a bicycle and Bob a car. Both park it in the garage. While you can move a bicycle, you can't move a car. They are barely done, when the garage door opens and Jade and Bob drive in. With the garage done, Jill and Timmy go to the utility room. There, they find Marvin. They get what they need and start in the living room. When Timmy is tasked with dusting, Theresa always puts Jill in that room too. Only she can lift the little tiger up, so that he can dust the higher areas. Timmy is only 9, so he can't reach everything. Timmy is small enough and light enough, to sit on Jill?s shoulders. Sometimes, Jill and Timmy swap their chores, as that is more convenient. While Jill helps Timmy, Marvin starts vacuum cleaning the carpet. With Timmy done, Jill picks up a bucket and the mop. By now Marvin is done with the kitchen, so Jill can mop the floor. With that done, Jill brings it to Snow, who needs it to mop the toilets. An hour later and most Ani are done with their chores. Jill and Marvin did the floor in the office, on the stairs and upstairs too. Everybody knows that when the vacuum cleaners are upstairs, you do you room too. Dave and Snow even stop with their chores, to do their rooms quickly.\n\nIn the office, they had a staff meeting. They started as soon as Marvin was done with the floor in the office. They spoke about Pippa and all the problems she might have. Near the end, they even called in Jill. Normally, an Ani like Jill has nothing to do at a staff meeting. However, they all realized that Jill might be the only one who could control Pippa if it would go wrong. Not only is Jill much larger then Pippa, Jill?s history as a pit fighter made her very strong too. They have seen her lift op Snow directly from the ground with just one arm. If Jill is that strong, Pippa might not be much of a challenge. The four of them decide to give Pippa chance, even though Jill is against it. Jill does agree with giving Pippa a few weeks as probation. If she fails in those weeks, she goes to prison immediately. With everything discussed and arranged, Jill leaves the office. She is ordered to keep quiet about things. Theresa will make tell the others what is going to happen. She will do this during lunch.\n\nTheresa keeps her word. During lunch, she explains everything about Pippa, including what she did in the previous shelter. Everybody gets silent. They are afraid. One by one, they look at Jill. The only one who might be able to handle her. They all know she is strong, but nobody has ever seen her full strength. The last time she used her full strength, she was still a pit fighter. Jill only hopes it won't come that far. All they can do now, is counting down the time until Pippa arrives. The police should drop her off in a few hours. In the mean time, they prepare a bedroom for her and they make sure they have enough to eat for dinner. And then it's finally time. The intercom rings. Someone is at the gate and it's not the local supermarket, as that was yesterday, or the garbage collectors, as they picked that up before lunch. Theresa, Jade and Bob go to the front door. All 3 want to be there when Pippa arrives. Jill is standing by near the office door. The others are in the living room. Snow made sure they have an escape route out. She made a clear path to the back door and unlocked it. None is saying a word, but they all listen carefully. They hear talking and a car or a van stopping at the front door. By listening at the sounds, they hear that the front door is open. Sudden, their worst fears become real. Bob asks for Jill?s help. They all hold their breaths and Snow is already ready to run for the back door. Then, Jade comes in, carrying a bag. She is followed by Bob. Just seconds after him, Jill walks in with Pippa swung over her shoulder, followed by Theresa. There was no fight of any kind. Because they knew Pippa was a threat, they drugged her. Right now, she is barely awake and even less aware of what happens around her. Jade drops the bag on the floor and orders the couch to be cleared. Without any hesitation, Jill places Pippa on it in a sitting position. However, Bob suggests that Pippa might be better of laying down. After a quick repositioning, Pippa doses of in a deep sleep. She is drugged enough for her to sleep for a few hours. She won't wake up until after lunch. While everybody eats lunch, Pippa is snoring on the couch.\n\nAbout an hour after lunch, Pippa is finally waking up. She tries to sit up straight. Just too be sure, most are out of the living-room. Jill is still there, to make sure Pippa doesn't do anything crazy. Jill sits in one of the chairs close to Pippa.\n\n``How is she doing?'' asks Bob when he checks on Pippa.\n\n``She is waking up'' answers Jill without looking at Bob.\n\nPippa, who finally sits up straight, hears people talking. With sleepy eyes she turns her head to where the talking comes from. To see better, she rubs her eyes a bit and blinks a few times. She sees an adult fox Ani sitting in a chair with an older non-Ani man standing next to her. The room itself is luxurious, but looks a bit old fashioned. She has no idea where they took her. The last thing she knows was that she was in the prison cell and they shot her with a tranquilizer gun. It hurt. Then, it was all blurry and dark. When the narcotic haze has finally left her head, she sees the back door. She quickly jumps up and runs for it. Jill reacts fast and sticks out her left foot. Pippa misses this and stumbles over it. When Bob wants to help her get up, she swings her right fist at him. He jumps back to dodge it. Before Pippa can get up by herself, she sees how Jill gets up and picks her up from the floor. Immediately, Pippa starts punching. She hits Jill a few times, but she doesn't even flinch.\n\n``Enough!'' sounds through the living-room.\n\nTheresa and Jade walked in. The very first thing they saw was Pippa attacking Jill. While they walk closer, Pippa keeps fighting with Jill, who doesn't do a thing back. Pippa clearly doesn't want to listen. When close enough, Theresa grabs Pippa by her shoulder to stop her. She shouldn't have done that. Jill reacts to this and pushes Pippa backwards with a lot of strength. Because Pippa was out of balance as she was trying to hit Theresa, she loses her balance and falls hard on the ground. Before she can get up again, Jill plants her left foot in her neck and pushes her to the ground. Pippa tries to get up, but lacks the strength. She also feels how Jill?s toenails scratch against her skin. This is a fight she can't win. Now, she can only look scared at the people around her and mostly at that huge Ani woman who has her pinned against the floor. Pippa wants to say she is sorry, but is silenced. Theresa jells mad at her and threatens to unleash Jill on her if she doesn't stop. Pippa doesn't want to, but Jill is just too powerful for her. Very slowly, Jill removes her foot from Pippa?s neck. Pippa doesn't move. When everybody around her is gone, she finally gets up slowly. For the rest of the day, Jill is somewhere around to keep an eye on her. Pippa feels this presence, even if she can't see Jill. And like this, her first day ends slowly. That evening, when she is send to bed early, its Jill who pushes her all the way to her bedroom. When Jill is sure that Pippa is in bed, she finally leaves. This night, Pippa doesn't sleep so well. She has no idea how to escape and she has Jill to worry about. She doesn't know what her role is in this shelter. Without answers, all she can do is play along and hope for the best.\n\n","writing_bbcode_parsed":"Chapter 1.

It's a bit of a clouded day in Easy Blackburn. She quickly looks up and finds Jill at the door.

``Interesting emails?'' asks Jill playful.

``Just some work emails.''

``Breakfast is ready in a few minutes.''

Theresa looks at the clock on the screen in front of her. She still hasn't figured it out yet.

Breakfast is eaten mostly in silence, as most are still half asleep, but some are chatting a bit. Jill, who sits next to Theresa, usually remains quiet. She isn't a talkative person. Theresa usually talks, but not today. She keeps thinking about that email she got. She needs to have a staff meeting about it.

``Your are unusually quiet'' says Jill soft to Theresa.

``Just a lot on my mind today.''

``Nothing bad, I hope.''

``Some is.''

``Good luck with that.''

Theresa leans a bit closer to Jill.

``After breakfast, come to the office. I'll show you.''

Jill gives Theresa a surprised look. She usually doesn't share anything from the emails, unless it directly involves Jill. For the rest of breakfast, Jill wonders what is going on. She even gets a bit of an uncomfortable feeling from it. She would love to ask what is going on, but Theresa is quiet again and Jill knows that she doesn't share any work related information at the table.

Directly after breakfast, Jill follows Theresa to the office. She stops to listen.

``I still can't believe it'' says Jill. ``This must be a joke or something.''

``It's from the B.A.P., so I doubt it's a joke.''

``If she is so dangerous, why not send her to jail immediately?''

``I don't know. Maybe they want to give her a second chance.''

``I wouldn't.''

``No?''

``Never. Someone like her, has to go to jail. What if she succeeds? Who is then guilty? She? Or the staff of the shelter she lives in? If she tried it and failed, she will try again.''

Snow doesn't understand. Some are happy with their chores, some are not.

Jill: floors and garage.

Snow: girls bathroom and toilets.

Marvin: floors and garbage.

Timmy: garage and dusting.

Dave: boys bathroom and garbage.

Everybody sees that Marvin and Dave are put together for the garbage task. Dave and Snow even stop with their chores, to do their rooms quickly.

In the office, they had a staff meeting. She will do this during lunch.

Theresa keeps her word. While everybody eats lunch, Pippa is snoring on the couch.

About an hour after lunch, Pippa is finally waking up. She tries to sit up straight. Just too be sure, most are out of the living-room. Jill is still there, to make sure Pippa doesn't do anything crazy. Jill sits in one of the chairs close to Pippa.

``How is she doing?'' asks Bob when he checks on Pippa.

``She is waking up'' answers Jill without looking at Bob.

Pippa, who finally sits up straight, hears people talking. She hits Jill a few times, but she doesn't even flinch.

``Enough!'' sounds through the living-room.

Theresa and Jade walked in. Without answers, all she can do is play along and hope for the best.

","pools_count":1,"title":"Ani Chapter 1","deleted":"f","public":"t","mimetype":"application/msword","pagecount":"1","rating_id":"1","rating_name":"Mature","ratings":[{"content_tag_id":"3","name":"Violence","description":"Mild violence","rating_id":"1"}],"submission_type_id":"12","type_name":"Writing - Document","guest_block":"t","friends_only":"f","comments_count":"0","views":"17","sales_description":null,"forsale":"f","digitalsales":"f","printsales":"f","digital_price":""}
