She made no move to stop him when he opened the door. He could barely keep himself calm when he stepped outside and looked at her.\n\"I'm sorry Sue,\" he said quietly, \"but this... is something I just have to do. For all of us.\"\nShe nodded. \"Promise me you'll come back to me, King.\"\n\"I promise.\"\n\nShe smiled weakly, and he smiled back at her before slinging the sword over his shoulder and turning away. It was with heavy steps that he left his house and walked down the hills to Toroko's place. It had once been her brother Arthur's, but the Doctor had killed him. Arthur had been a hero to the mimiga, bravely fighting off the monsters that came to attack them. No one knew for certain if it really was the Doctor in person who murdered him, but King didn't care. To him, the Doctor was responsible for it, and he would pay. And if he had hurt Toroko... King's grip tightened, and he swung his sword in the air. Yes... that Doctor would pay for what he had done. King almost hoped the robot wouldn't have had time to finish him off before he got there. He wanted to be the one to deliver justice upon that madman.\n\t\nHe entered the empty house, and passed by the small living room where he had been sitting with Sue the day before. The house was really quite big, since it also housed the village's most high-tech equipment: A teleporter, which was used to send people from place to place inside the island's giant cave system. He looked around to see if anyone else was present, but found no one. Kazuma, Sue's brother, as well as professor Booster from the research team had both been rescued by the robot kid on Sue's instruction; but Sue had still wanted to sleep alone after what happened while he was gone. It was during that time King had fetched Jack, and... No. He didn't want to think about that anymore. He couldn't undo what he had done then, but now he would try to make up for it.\n\t\nA lone computer stood in the middle of the room. King walked over and looked over the display. A list of locations filled the screen. Sand Zone was already selected. King pressed the teleporter button and stepped wordlessly onto the platform, sword still in hand. "King... I miss Toroko."
King looked down, and Sue was certain she saw a glimpse of a pained expression on his face.
"I miss her too, Sue. I can only hope that robot kid will manage to get her back."
"I'm sorry, King. It's my fault. I should have been--"
"No, stop. Don't think like that. It's not your fault that those villains mistook her for you."
Sue frowned. "You didn't say that when you and Jack locked me in that cage."
King winced again.
"Look, I said I was sorry, all right?"
"Were you really going to do it?"

"Give me to the Doctor?"
"Er... Yes. We were," King admitted. "We were. We hoped we could get Toroko back that way. But then that robot went after her, and I realized it wasn't your fault."

King made a sour face as he remembered. A day before, he had decided that the best way to make Sue admit her "guilt" would be to teach her a lesson in humility. Sue stepped back from the door and looked away. King hesitated for a moment, but then stepped into the house. He could see Sue wiping the tears from her eyes as he walked into the small living room. He deliberately sat down on a wooden chair while he let Sue take the only stuffed chair in the room. Angry at King, angry at Jack, angry at the Doctor. But she calmed herself.
He wanted to apologize, she thought, and he regrets hurting me. Should I dismiss that as nothing? Make him think of me as unforgiving?
Sue felt conflicted. And just then, just as her anger had so suddenly come over her, the loneliness and despair came flooding back as well. She looked at King, unable to speak a word, and he watched as a sad look drew over her face again. Then she moved over and hugged him, tightly. He was at a loss of words as well, and so he just sat there and embraced her while she sobbed gently into his shoulder. They sat like that for a long time, until Sue stopped crying, yet there were no words between them. Nothing had to be said. After hearing his side of the tale and letting her emotions out, Sue felt safe with King.

A while later, Sue finally broke the silence.
"I... I think I understand you now, King," she said. "I understand that I'm not the only one who have lost someone. I'm sorry."
"Sorry? Sorry for what, Sue? I'm the one who treated you unfairly. I'm the one who needs to apologize."
"But King... even though you didn't trust me, I kept badmouthing everyone instead of trying to fit in. I can't have been an easy guest."
"You weren't. But still, as village leader, I should have kept myself in check, I--"

"Sue, even if you've forgiven me... I still feel bad about what I did. I can't undo those actions, but I can try to do some good things as well. Would you... would you like to eat dinner at my place? Eating alone here in this little shack isn't exactly grand, is it?"

King had personally cooked up a nice meal while Sue relaxed on a stuffed couch in his living room. He took extra care to make it as good as possible, unlike when he cooked for himself. He barely recognized her. For a week straight, she had been swinging between fury and depression, but now she seemed almost happy. It took him a while to realize it was  because of him. She had made a friend in King, and now she clung to him. He had grown fond of her as well. After eating, they sat down on the couch, arms around each other, talking about their lives. Sue spoke of her home at the surface, while King told her stories from the island and the caves. Eventually they ran out of things to talk about and just sat there in silence again, enjoying each others company. Sue sighed contently. King glanced out the window and saw that it had grown dark. Even deep in the caves where their village lay, a bit of sunlight still managed to reach them somehow. Soon even that would be gone, and night would come.
"Look," he said. "It's almost night."
Sue had felt something strange then. Not just a friendship or mutual trust, but a deep connection to this furry creature beside her. She didn't want the evening to end, she just wanted to stay with King, embrace him and feel safe from everything. King felt her grip tighten around him, and her snuggling closer. He stroked her head and let his fingers slide through her soft fur.
"I don't want to go back to Toroko's place, King," she whispered. "Can I stay here? With you?"

King stepped towards the door and grabbed his sword from its resting place besides it. He turned around; his chest heavy, his face in a worn expression. He hadn't told her his plans for the day yet, and he absolutely didn't want to. Sue had lost her family, her friends... and now the one she had only had for a day was going to leave, possibly never return. And yet... King felt he had to do it.
If I follow the robot, he thought, I'll find the Doctor. And then... I'll find Toroko.
"Where are you going?" asked Sue. She was still in bed, but she could see him standing there. He swallowed. When he didn't answer, Sue looked closer with a confused expression. "Is that a sword? King, what are you..."
"Sand Zone," he said. Her mouth froze, a terrified expression appearing in her eyes.
"Wha... what?"
"I'm going to the Sand Zone, Sue. The Doctor must be stopped if we are to get Toroko and our friends back. I'm not going to sit back and hope that one robot can do it alone. I may not be as able to fight as a gun-slinging robot, but if I can help him in any way, I will."
"But King! We sent the robot because we knew none of us would survive the trip!"
"Even if that's the case, you know how well he has handled everything so far. I'm confident that once he is done, the path will be clear for me to follow."
Sue had gotten out of bed now, and rushed over to him. She grabbed him by the arm, twisting him away from the door before holding him tight.
"No, King, please, don't do it! I don't want to lose you too!"
"Sue..."
"Please... don't!"
She hugged him tighter and cried softly. King had to blink a tear away from his eye as well as he hugged Sue back, but he still pushed her away after about a minute. He looked into her eyes.
"Sue, please listen: I don't want to lose you either. But if the Doctor isn't stopped soon, then we'll lose Toroko and everyone else. I can't let that happen, Sue. How could I not risk my life to save them?"
She swallowed, tears still flowing. "I... I understand, King, but please... please..."
He slipped out of the embrace and looked sadly at her. She made no move to stop him when he opened the door. He could barely keep himself calm when he stepped outside and looked at her.
"I'm sorry Sue," he said quietly, "but this... is something I just have to do. For all of us."
She nodded. "Promise me you'll come back to me, King."
"I promise."

She smiled weakly, and he smiled back at her before slinging the sword over his shoulder and turning away. It was with heavy steps that he left his house and walked down the hills to Toroko's place. It had once been her brother Arthur's, but the Doctor had killed him. Arthur had been a hero to the mimiga, bravely fighting off the monsters that came to attack them. No one knew for certain if it really was the Doctor in person who murdered him, but King didn't care. To him, the Doctor was responsible for it, and he would pay. And if he had hurt Toroko... King's grip tightened, and he swung his sword in the air. Yes... that Doctor would pay for what he had done. King almost hoped the robot wouldn't have had time to finish him off before he got there. He wanted to be the one to deliver justice upon that madman.

He entered the empty house, and passed by the small living room where he had been sitting with Sue the day before. The house was really quite big, since it also housed the village's most high-tech equipment: A teleporter, which was used to send people from place to place inside the island's giant cave system. He looked around to see if anyone else was present, but found no one. Kazuma, Sue's brother, as well as professor Booster from the research team had both been rescued by the robot kid on Sue's instruction; but Sue had still wanted to sleep alone after what happened while he was gone. It was during that time King had fetched Jack, and... No. He didn't want to think about that anymore. He couldn't undo what he had done then, but now he would try to make up for it.

A lone computer stood in the middle of the room. King walked over and looked over the display. A list of locations filled the screen. Sand Zone was already selected. King pressed the teleporter button and stepped wordlessly onto the platform, sword still in hand. A few seconds later, a blue light surrounded him as his body faded from view. He arrived at Sand Zone moments after.

It was the last Sue ever saw of him.
