They were cannon fodder, and didn’t mean anything to Eclipse like his Dark Arms did. He gave a bellow of rage as he brutally beat Mephiles down and struck him again and again.\n\nEclipse made sure his lover’s torturer was dead before letting up. He wouldn’t make Sonic’s mistake and assume him dead without absolute proof. Mephiles wasn’t breathing, and his face had been reduced to a bloody mess, all recognizable features destroyed by Eclipse’s onslaught. His eyes were dull and lifeless, and the crystals covering his body were withering into black and crumbling away.\n\nEclipse rose, satisfied that the demon was truly dead this time, and turned his furious gaze to Sonic, taking notice of his companions shuffling forward and inspecting their wounds. He let his bulk fade away and he returned to his normal form.\n\n“You’re the one that took Shadow away!” Sonic exclaimed. “How is he? Can I see him?”\n\n“No, you can’t see him!” Eclipse snarled, making Sonic flinch slightly. “You caused this to happen to him again, and you think you deserve to see him?”\n\nShadow reached out to him from his dark corner with a wordless inquiry. Shadow didn’t remember this person, so why did he want to see Shadow so badly?\n\nEclipse glared at Sonic and silently replied. [i]He is no one, my love. He betrayed you. His feet? Sonic couldn’t imagine a worse fate than having mobility stolen away. He lunged for Mephiles first, knowing the demon was the greater threat having defeated Sonic in the past, and wanted to catch him off guard.

His body shifted and grew as he flew for Mephiles, until his muscles bulged and he towered over everyone else in the room. He gave a bellow of rage as he brutally beat Mephiles down and struck him again and again.

Eclipse made sure his lover’s torturer was dead before letting up. He wouldn’t make Sonic’s mistake and assume him dead without absolute proof. Mephiles wasn’t breathing, and his face had been reduced to a bloody mess, all recognizable features destroyed by Eclipse’s onslaught. His eyes were dull and lifeless, and the crystals covering his body were withering into black and crumbling away.

Eclipse rose, satisfied that the demon was truly dead this time, and turned his furious gaze to Sonic, taking notice of his companions shuffling forward and inspecting their wounds. He let his bulk fade away and he returned to his normal form.

“You’re the one that took Shadow away!” Sonic exclaimed. “How is he? Can I see him?”

“No, you can’t see him!” Eclipse snarled, making Sonic flinch slightly. “You caused this to happen to him again, and you think you deserve to see him?”

Shadow reached out to him from his dark corner with a wordless inquiry. Shadow didn’t remember this person, so why did he want to see Shadow so badly?

Eclipse glared at Sonic and silently replied. He is no one, my love. He betrayed you. Please, don’t ask to know more. I want no more pain for you.

Shadow pulled away, satisfied and trusting Eclipse to know what was best. Eclipse issued an order for Shadow to be escorted back to the Comet, and a Black Oak scooped him up and carried him away, all without Sonic and company noticing anything had transpired.

“You handed him over to Mephiles, and he lost his voice. Now, he’s lost his feet because you didn’t bother to check that Mephiles was really dead. And you think I’ll let you see him?” Eclipse hissed.

“We didn’t do anything to him.” Knuckles said from behind Eclipse. “Mephiles hurt him, not us.”

“And we did it to save Sonic!” Amy intoned.

“You think this began with Mephiles? It began when you took advantage of him at his most vulnerable instead of helping him recover his memories. The memories he lost saving you! And you call yourselves heroes.” Eclipse scoffed in disgust.

“You’ve accused him of villainy with no evidence after he has made strides to reform, and you’ve demanded he change who he is without any effort to understand him as he is!

Knuckles clenched his fists. “He almost joined up with those monsters!”

“And now we monsters are his family. And we monsters are doing a damn better job loving him than you ever did.”

Sonic gasped, “You’re with the Black Arms?”

The rest of the group tensed and readied for battle.

“And you, you pathetic little thing,” Eclipse growled at Amy, “You freely admit Shadow's life is worth less than his.” Eclipse jerked a finger towards Sonic. “And you say it as if it’s something to be proud of! You filthy, wretched…” Eclipse trailed off, reigning in his anger.

Amy shivered, and tears leaked silently from her eyes.

“He volunteered to subject himself to Mephiles because you have done nothing to make him feel valued. You have used him when it was convenient, then threw him away if the effort to understand him became too burdensome. Even those that call themselves his teammates are guilty!

“I showed mercy once, but no more. You will pay for your betrayal. Your entire planet will pay. As your world burns around you, know you brought it upon every person who dies screaming!”

With that, Eclipse retreated into the shadows, escaping from a four-on-one fight he would not win after already using up his powered up form, to return to the Black Comet and plan their assault on Mobius.

“The world that harmed you burns, my love.” Eclipse whispered to Shadow sleeping form. “I tore Sonic’s head from his body myself. I beat his friends to death with my own hands. They will never hurt you again.”

Most of Eclipse’s beloved Dark Arms were on Mobius, feeding and growing stronger. But Blurk, Rhygenta, Cregal, and Cyzer were snuggling with Shadow as he slept.
