Chaotic had worried about the blood on Zen making a mess and causing problems in the future. His worry was short lived however. The blood had turned to dust by the time they had reached the house. This caused both relief and worry for Chaotic. If the energy Zen had used turned his blood to dust, what effect was it having on his body? These questions would have to wait. Standing in front of his house were three people he and Zain knew well. \n\n\tThe first two people were Dr. Realm and Lucy. The third person was someone Zen had not met yet. At first glance you would say she was a young teen standing next to Lucy. The truth was that she was older than Chaotic. She was a small Fennec fox. Her fur was a tan color. The hair on her head was her most outstanding feature other than her large ears. Most of her hair was a silver color. There were scarlet highlights that really made her stand out in a crowd. This another member of the mages council. Her name was Scarlet Metal.\n\n\tChaotic got out of the car and started to get Zen from the back seat. Lucy rushed over to help. She went to the passenger side to get Black from the back seat. As Chaotic and Lucy worked to get the two sleeping pups from the back seat of the car, Zain got out and approached Dr. Realm and Scarlet. Zain spoke with a crooked grin. Ah Scarlet in as sour of a mood as ever. What’s got your tail in a bind today?\n\n\tScarlet simply glared at Zain as she crossed her arms. You know why I’m pissed you moron. You were assigned to watch over the school district and call if there were any developments. What do you go and do? You act on your own again and nearly get you stupid ass killed. I swear you could fuck up an assignment even a toddler could do.\n\n\tDr. Realm shook his head. As spirited as ever I see Scarlet. You should really try and control your language around such young ones. You never know when they could be listening. Scarlet only scoffed. I don’t give a crap who hears me. I’ll say what I want how I want to say it. Besides one of those two isn’t exactly innocent is she? \n\n\tChaotic was now opening the front door of the house. Lucy was right behind him with Black in her arms. Chaotic turned back to the three bickering in the yard. As interesting as this conversation has been, I believe it would be best to continue it inside. With that Chaotic led Lucy to Zen’s room. The others made their way to the living room. Once Zen and Black were tucked in bed, Chaotic and Lucy joined the others in the living room. \n\n\tThe tension in the living room was heavy. Scarlet’s mood was getting to everyone. She sat on the couch arms crossed and slumped over. She groaned before speaking. This is fucking fantastic. We have a demon and a time bomb in the other room. This is why I didn’t think it was a good idea to have them two going to school. Dr. Realm cleared his throat and interrupted Scarlet’s rant. What would you have us do with Zen if not have him go to school. How will he learn to control his abilities if he is not taught? Scarlet merely shrugged. How would I know what to do with a couple of brats? As things are now who’s to say that Black isn’t controlling Zen. She could have him blow up the city if we’re not carful. \n\n\tBlack came walking into the living room rubbing her eyes. Now that idea is just stupid. I would never ask Zen to hurt anyone. Not only that but if something were like that were to happen and I did ask Zen to do something terrible, I’m sure I would get smacked through a wall. At the school I asked Zen to show his power. I was pissed at the way that teacher was treating Zen. I know it was a bad idea. Scarlet just laughed. That is the biggest understatement I’ve ever heard. That little stunt got the attention of most of the school. \n\n\tDr. Realm nodded. It would be hard not to notice the school shaking under the influence of Zen’s raw power. We may have our work cut out for us in order to keep Zen and Black in school. We need to find out how big of an affect this situation will have on Zen. In order to find that out we will have to wait until he wakes up.\n\n\tChaotic leaned forward in his chair and rubbed his chin. Well it’s hard to say how long he will sleep. Last time he used his full power he was fine when he work up in the morning. Who knows how long he will be out this time. Black walked over and sat next to Chaotic. She nodded in agreement. It’s hard to say what affects that crazy fire spell had on Zen. I have never seen white fire like that before.\n\n\tDr. Realm gasped. Did you just say Zen used white fire? That is a type of magic only his family can use. It draws a huge amount of energy to create that fire. From what I understand of it there is nothing in this world that can repel that fire. It will burn all that it touches. Black nodded as she crossed her arms. Yes that sounds about right. After all that fire burned my hands pretty bad. If it wasn’t for that healing light Zen put off, I might have lost my hands.\n\n\tScarlet laughed. So this little squirt has the power to destroy us all or heal us all. This is just perfect. Does he shoot glitter out his ass too? I mean seriously what the hell? Is it even safe for these two to attend any form of school? What are the grantees that Zen won’t go off the handle and hurt someone?\n\n\tChaotic cleared his throat and leaned back in his chair. Well to start we have myself and Realm at the school ready to act should the need for us come up. Then we have Black. She stays by Zen’s side 90 percent of the day. If anyone can keep Zen calm she can. There is also a student that might be able to help calm Zen down. Black grinned. Yeah I’d say Kain already stopped Zen from a total melt down at school. He seems to be unfazed by Zen’s power. Black’s grin turned to a frown. Had Alex kept his mouth shut I’d say Zen would have been fine.\n\n\tLucy leaned on the arm of the couch putting her hand to her chin. In order to prevent outbursts like that, we would have to make the other students aware of Zen’s fragile mental state. Or at least make sure they know not to pick on him. Dr. Realm let out a long sigh. Well the problem there is, the school policy is absolutely no bullying. There will always be rule breakers. Scared kids are always harder to deal with. After all it is in our nature to fear that witch we do not understand. Not many students will have the same reaction as Kain Roberts.\n\n\tZain let out a small laugh. Sounds like this Kain kid has nerves of steel. I’d like to meet this kid. Scarlet chuckled. Why? Do you want to see if you can scare the crap out of him like everyone else you show and interest in? Zain crossed his arms and for a moment looked hurt. Come on I don’t scare everyone I like…. Oh ok, you got me. I always like to see people’s reactions.\n\n\tBlack sighed and leaned against Chaotic. That is exactly why you got your butt kicked by a 5 year old. I mean who does that to a scared kid unless you have a few too many screws loose. Scarlet laughed. I like your sass kid. Black smiled. And I like your hair. Is that your natural color? Scarlet blushed through her fur. Come on that’s not fair. Looking cute and complementing my hair. And yes these are my natural colors. I do have to say though the black fur with red and blue eyes is a kick ass look.\n\n\tLucy chuckled. Looks like Black found Scarlet’s weakness to her hard personality. Scarlet let out a low growl and her blush got redder. Shut up Lucy no one asked for your opinion. So what if I like the way she looks. I still don’t trust her. Black shrugged and nuzzled into Chaotic’s arm. I never asked for your trust. That is something I will have to work for. I may never truly earn any of your trust. That doesn’t mean I’m going to give up though. Say what you want about me, I will never leave Zen. I will use every ounce of my strength to protect him and anything he holds dear.\n\n\tChaotic ruffled Black hair with a smile. Does that mean you will try and protect me and Ruby? Black sat up and turned toward Chaotic. Are you kidding? You and Ruby have taken me in. How could I not want to keep you both safe? Chaotic pulled Black into a hug. Just remember I’m not some push over. Don’t go risking yourself for my sake. Black returned the hug. Her ears perked up as the hug ended. Ruby is home. Is it really that late already? \n\n\tBefore anyone could answer Scarlet’s question, the front door opened. Ruby called out as she entered the house. Chaotic I didn’t know we were expecting company tonight. Who’s here? Black jumped off the couch and ran to the door. When she reached Ruby, she put her pointer finger in front of her lips. Shhh Zen is sleeping. There was an incident at school. Everyone is in the living room. Ruby dropped her purse and rushed to the door of Zen and Black’s room. She looked in to see Zen sound asleep in his bed. She gave a sigh of relief and closed the door part way. Thank god he is okay. What happened to him? Black waved for Ruby to follow her as she walked back toward the living room. \n\n\tRuby looked around the room and right away had to ask. Alright I can see some of you are with the mages council. But who is the teen punk? Everyone but Scarlet burst out laughing. Lucy looked at Scarlet still laughing. I told you that you should have warn more formal clothes. Not everyone involved knows who you are or your position on the council. Ruby’s mouth dropped wide open. Holy crap they let teens be on the council? What are you sixteen, eighteen? Scarlet crossed her arms. For your information I’m a fennec fox. We don’t get that big. Also I’m 45 years old. I’m the second oldest person in this room.\n\n\tBlack laughed. If we are talking age of mind or soul I think I have everyone bested. So that would make you the third oldest person in the room. But in terms of body I’m the youngest one in the house. After all I’m only a little over a month old now. Black looked at Dr. Realm. I know you have had your suspicions about me. I guess everything should be brought out in the open. I am a former demon that helped Zen survive those twisted bastards that did all those horrible things to him. Since coming to live within Zen my demonic powers had been slowly purified. By the time I got this body I had no demonic power left. Now I’m just a regular pup with a great understanding of all types of magic. \n\n\tRuby sat down next to Chaotic. That’s not quite true is it? Black you have many of the same abilities as Zen. I mean you can see auras and you can absorb energy just like Zen. Black nodded as she hopped up on Chaotic’s lap. That is true. Whatever abilities Zen has, I should also have. However there are some abilities I still don’t quite understand. Like the blood weapons. That is a rare magic that I have not seen.\n\n\tScarlet crossed her arms. I wonder if Zen is related to that old bastard that won’t even talk to us. Black looked up at Chaotic. Who is she talking about? Chaotic shook his head. Well she is talking about the principal of the school. And Zen is indeed related to him. He is Zen’s grandfather. We tried to contact Principal Voss Godrick about Zen. He wanted nothing to do with Zen. That is probably why he was not at the entrance ceremony. Zain cleared his throat and interrupted. There is another possibility. The rumors about the good principal being a skirt chaser at the school could actually be true. He could have been too involved with his attempts to bed some of the younger staff at the school to attend the ceremony. \n\n\tDr. Realm nodded. I too have heard those rumors. I have a hard time believing them though. And the fact that he was contacted about his own grandson and did nothing to help the poor boy. That is simply disgraceful. Scarlet shook her head. That’s low even for that old fart. He is just as stuck up as he was in the war. Makes me wonder if a demon didn’t lodge something up the geezer’s ass to make him so ornery. \n\n\tLucy let out a short chuckle. It’s sad but true. He was a different person before the war. Maybe we should have him meet both Zen and Black. Chaotic laughed. If he saw Black I bet he would say she looked like his daughter. That’s what Irene Soul had said. We may have to schedule a meeting with Mr. Godrick. Black wore a look of concern. Do you think we will get kicked out of school? Scarlet stretched out before standing. I can’t say for sure what the rest of the council will decide. As for those of the council present today, I think it’s safe to say we want to keep you in school. For the most part we can keep an eye on you fairly well there. Lucy and Zain both nodded in agreement.\n\n\tBefore anyone could say another word there was a knock at the door. Chaotic quickly stood and made his way to the front door. At the door stood Kain. He looked worried. Chaotic gave him a smile. Hello um Kain right? What brings you here today? Kain tried to smile but still had worry all over his face. Um hello Mr. Storm, I live just up the street. I came over to check on Zen and Black. Are they okay? Chaotic turned just as Black came to the door. She gave Kain a warm smile. I’m doing fine. As for Zen he is sleeping right now. I’m not sure when he will be waking up.\n\n\tThere was a call from Zen’s room. I’m awake just give me a second to get out of bed. There was a sound of shuffling then a thud. Ouch… I’m okay. Zen walked out of his room and came to the front door. He leaned against Black. I’m okay, just really tired. I feel like I just ran for 9 days straight. Kain had a look of relief. I’m glad you are doing okay. What happened after you disappeared from school? Zen looked down. I fought someone and hurt them badly. I hurt Black too but I healed them both. Then I passed out. I just woke up so I don’t know how long I was asleep.\n\n\tZain came walking to the door. Don’t worry about what happened kid. I had that hit coming. I should not have messed with you when you were in that state. I’m sorry I scared you. Zen let out a weak laugh. I think anyone would have scared me the way I was out there. I’m just glad you’re okay now. By the way. Your bones are not fully healed. It will be at least 5 days before they are back to full strength. Zain smiled and pat Zen on the head. Thanks for the heads up. I’m heading out now. \n\n\tAs soon as Zain was out in the yard Zen went and hugged Kain. Zen whispered in Kain’s ear. Thank you for checking on me. It’s good to know I have at least one friend at school. Just before Zen broke the hug he gave Kain a peck on the cheek and pulled away. Kain blushed and touched his cheek. What was that for? Zen shrugged. Felt like the best way to thank you. Might be because of how tired I am. Sorry if that was… um weird. Kain shook his head. No it’s fine. I just wasn’t expecting it is all. \n\nChaotic chuckled. We should get you fed and put to bed Zen. You look like you’re about to fall over. As long as Zen is feeling alright he will be in school tomorrow. Kain Smiled and said goodbye. He ran back toward his house but stopped at the road. He turned around and waved at Zen who was half hanging off of Black as he waved back. Zen gave a soft chuckle and turned to walk back into the house. He was helped to the dining room table by Black. \n\nBoth Lucy and Dr. Realm were shocked to see Zen up and moving around. Dr. Realm walked over to Zen. He looked him over and checked some of his vitals. You really should be resting Zen. You over exerted yourself. You don’t just bounce back from things like that. Your body needs time to recover. Zen waved his hand as he yawned. I have no intention on staying up too long. I just need some food before I go to sleep. Well that is if I can keep myself upright that long. Dr. Realm crossed his arms. How much pain are you in right now? Zen put both hands on the table. Let’s just say I hurt from the tips of my ears to the tips of my toes. I wasn’t kidding when I said it feels like I ran for 9 days straight. \n\nLucy looked confused. I thought you said you heal really fast. Why would you have so much pain if everything is healed? Zen slumped down with his chin on the table and his arms straight forward. Some things take longer to heal. Skin is the fastest to heal. Organs depending on the damage would be second and bones would be the slowest. Using the enhancing magic I used put a huge strain on my bones. They kept from breaking but just about snapped. That’s why I’m in pain now. Believe me I know how long things take to heal. I had hands on experience for three years remember. \n\nBy now Ruby had made some sandwiches. Zen and Black Both ate their fill. After eating the two pups made their way to the bathroom to get ready for bed. It was rather early but with all the day’s events there was no way the two of them would be able to stay awake. Plus Zen really needed his rest. The two pups finished there bedtime routine in record time. They were both in their beds and fast asleep before Chaotic and Ruby could even say goodnight. \n\nBack in the dining room Dr. Realm, Chaotic, Ruby, Lucy and Scarlet were sitting at the table. Dr. Realm had a serious look on his face. I believe it would be wise to bring Zen in to have some tests done. Black too, she was exposed to some extreme magic. The effects could be harmful even after healing. Chaotic nodded in agreement. Yes I was thinking the same thing. I would feel better knowing they are both safe from any danger after this whole ordeal. We will have to call and set up an appointment. With that said Chaotic excused himself from the table to go make a call. Dr. Realm stopped Chaotic and handed him a piece of paper. It had the name of a local doctor on it. With that Dr. Realm said his goodbyes and went home.\n\nRuby fidgeted a little. So um Scarlet sorry about calling you a teen punk earlier. I really don’t know much about fennec foxes. Scarlet slouched in her chair and waved her paw. It’s no big deal. Most people think I’m way younger than them. You have no idea how many times I’ve been pulled over by an “officer of the law” thinking I was a minor skipping school. I’ve gotten used to it by now. Being as short as I am has some advantages and disadvantages. You know the usual, fitting into small spaces, no worries about head clearance, and of course a big advantage or a bonus is messing with people that know me or even people that don’t know me. Biggest and most annoying disadvantage is the fact that I get ID checked for everything. \n\nWhile Scarlet talked Ruby got the two of them some sweet tea. When Scarlet was done talking Ruby grinned. So you like messing with people? Have you got a special someone yet? Scarlet sighed and looked at her cup. Let’s see last time I was “with someone” was high school. Sad isn’t it. Most people are afraid of what others will think when they are seen with me. Scared of the rumors I guess. Ruby also looked somewhat sad. I can’t say it has been that long for me. The last guy I was with found out that I may not be able to have cubs so he bailed. But that was 10 years ago. I have had tests since then. Turns out I can have cubs. It’s just harder for me to get pregnant. This whole situation with Zen and Black has been crazy. But I feel that we are the perfect fit for each other. If by a slim chance I do have a cub then Zen will have a little brother or sister. \n\nScarlet had a tear in her eye. She put both hands on Ruby’s. You thought your life through that far ahead. I can’t believe how strong you are. When I first saw you, I thought you might turn tail and run at the first sign of trouble. I see now you are in this for the long run. Ruby chuckled. I’ve always been hard headed. I’ll fight till the last man standing. As for turning and running, to me that isn’t an option. Zen needs me. And god knows Chaotic is going to need a hand. Raising a boy or girl is hard enough. These two are both hermaphrodites. I dread how puberty is going to be with them.\n\nChaotic walked back into the living room chuckling. Puberty is still a few years off. We have an appointment with Doctor Jay. She will be Zen and Black’s primary doctor for checkups. We were referred to her by Dr. Realm. While I was at it I called the school and left a message that Zen and Black may not be in school tomorrow. We will have to wait and see what the doctor says. \n\nScarlet stood and drank the last of her tea. Ruby it’s been fun talking to you. We should talk again sometime. As for you Chaotic. Keep the yin yang twins happy. From what I understand, they could use a man like you in their lives. Don’t fuck this up you hear? I’ll kick your ass if you do. She looked at Ruby and smiled. I’ll see you around. The night slipped by with no more incidents. Chaotic and Ruby both decided to get to sleep early too.\n\n***\nIn the morning Zen was the first to wake up. He and Black had fallen asleep in their own beds. Sometime in the night Black and crawled into bed with Zen. Normally it was the other way around. Having Black resting against him caused Zen quite a bit of discomfort. He slowly got himself out of bed careful not to wake Black. As soon as he was on his feet he couldn’t help letting out a hiss as the pain in his body throbbed. With a groan he made his way to the bathroom to start his morning routine. The thought was that a hot shower would help sooth some of the pain. Zen quickly got the water running only turning the hot water on. A normal fur would have been burned by the hot water. To Zen it felt heavenly. While under the hot stream of water Zen could feel the pain start to fade. \n\nAfter soaking in the heat for a few minutes Zen turned the water off and started to towel himself off. He dried himself most of the way and decided to let the rest of his fur and hair air dry. Zen didn’t bother putting cloth on just yet. He was still a little too damp for them. After grabbing his pajamas Zen made his way back to his room. He could see the light in the kitchen was already on and the smell of coffee was filling the house. Once he was in his room he saw that Black had work up. She sat on Zen’s bed rubbing her eyes.\n\nAfter a big yawn Black looked at Zen with a pouty expression. No fair you didn’t wake me to take a shower with you. Now I have to take one alone. Zen let out a soft chuckle. Sorry Black, I just needed a hot shower to help with the pain. You looked so happy sleeping that I didn’t want to wake you up. Black’s pout turned to worry. I didn’t hurt you when I crawled into bed with you last night did I? Zen shook his head and smiled. No I didn’t even know you had done it. I was a little uncomfortable this morning though. You were kind of laying on me.\n\nBlack looked even more worried. I’m sorry I wasn’t thinking. I just wanted to be close to you last night. Zen walked over and flopped face first onto his bed. He turned his head to face Black as she sat on the edge of the bed. You shouldn’t worry about things like that. I like sharing a bed with you. I feel safe when we are close. If I had woke up in the night I’m sure I would have crawled into your bed. You just beat me to it. Black smiled and let a sigh of relief. I’m glad I didn’t hurt you. By the way… why are you naked? Zen chuckled and flicked his tail at Black. His damp fur made a wet slapping sound. It hurt too much to try and rub my fur dry. I’m letting it air dry the rest of the way.\n\nChaotic peaked into the room hearing both Zen and Black giggling. Oh you two are up already. You should get your shower done. We are going to the hospital before you two go to school this morning. That is if you are feeling up to going to school. Zen rolled over and sat at the edge of the bed next to Black. I already took a shower. Black just has to take hers. I couldn’t dry my fur all the way with the towel so I’m letting it air dry. It might take a while though. Chaotic chuckled. I see, well if you want I’m sure Ruby will help you dry your fur with her blow dryer.\n\nZen nodded and hopped of the bed. He winced and let out a hiss in pain as soon as his paws hit the floor. Chaotic rushed over to Zen. Are you okay? What’s wrong? Zen shook his head. I just moved too fast. Every bone and muscle in my body hurts. Sitting still makes the pain fade a little. I’ll just have to take it easy. Chaotic still had a worried look on his face. Alright if you say so. I’ll feel better after we get you check out. For now let’s get you dried off and dressed. Black, you hop in the shower. If you want your fur blow dried just come to the master bedroom. Black nodded. Okay I’ll be quick with my shower.\n\nChaotic lead Zen to his and Ruby’s bedroom where Ruby was still getting ready. Hey Ruby think you could help Zen dry his fur and hair. He is too sore to towel off all the way. Ruby smiled and looked at Zen. I’m sure I can do that. I’ll hold off on combing your hair though. If you’re sore I’m sure that will hurt. Zen nodded and followed Ruby into the master bathroom. It took about 10 to 15 minutes to dry Zen’s hair and fur completely. Black came walking into the master bathroom just as Ruby shut the blow dryer off. She was already dressed but her hair was still quite damp. After another 10 minutes both Zen and Black were ready to head out. The only thing left to do was have breakfast. \n\nFor breakfast this morning sausage, eggs, hash browns and toast was made. Zen didn’t have quite as big of an appetite as he normally had. This was not so surprising since he was sore all over. After everyone had finished eating, plates were rinsed and put in the dish washer to be washed later. Both Chaotic and Ruby had taken a few hours off this morning to be at Zen and Black’s doctor’s visit. Arrangements were made with Jewel Realm in case Zen and Black were unable to go to school after their checkup. \n\nWith everything in order it was time to head to the hospital. The drive to the hospital proved to take longer than expected. All the morning commuters were rushing to their jobs. Ruby had to call the hospital to let them know they were running late. By the time they had reached the hospital they were ten minutes late. In the waiting room things took even longer. It wound up taking two hours for the doctor to be ready to see the Storm family. It turned out that Dr. Jay was one of the most sought after children’s doctors in the district.\n\nRuby was eager to meet this doctor and to ask why the wait was so long. A nurse led the Storm family to a small examination room. Once in the room she took blood pressure and heart rate and checked a few other odds and ends for the doctor to look over. After another ten minute wait Dr. Jay finally knocked on the door and enter the exam room. This doctor was of the canine family. She looked to be a Dalmatian. Her head was topped with short black hair. She had soft green eyes.\n\nDr. Jay introduced herself with a smile and a handshake with both Chaotic and Ruby. Hello there I’m Dr. Jay. Sorry about the long wait this morning. Some poor kid had a few broken bones that needed setting. Just give me a second to look over your charts. She took her seat in the only chair in the room with wheels on it. After a minute or so of looking at both Zen and Black’s charts Dr. Jay turned to Zen who was sitting in Chaotic’s lap. You must be Zen am I correct? Zen nodded and fidgeted a little feeling rather shy around a new person. \n\nAlright Zen I’ll start with you. To start things off I would like to get to know you a little. What’s your favorite color? Zen tilted his head in confusion. You want to know my favorite color? Dr. Jay laughed. Yes that is usually the first question I ask when meeting a new person. It’s kind of a way to break the ice. You know to try and make it easier to talk to one another. Zen had to stop and think for a moment before answering. Well I can’t say that I have a favorite color. I’m always seeing colors surrounding every person I see. I can’t really pick a favorite. \n\nDr. Jay smiled. Alright what about your favorite thing to do. Zen’s ears perked up and he smiled. That one’s easy. I like to read. I really like to learn new things. Other than reading I also like practicing magic. Dr. Jay gave a gasp. So young and already practicing magic. What kind of magic do you practice? Zen gave a shrug. I really want to learn more about healing magic. For now at the school we are going over basic magic like elemental and enhancing. I really want to be able to use my power to help people though. Dr. Jay gave Zen a warm smile and put her hands on his shoulders. Look Zen it’s nice to want to help people but you are a little young to be using any kind of healing magic. At your age healing magic would drain all your magical energy in no time flat.\n\nZen looked Dr. Jay in the eyes and smiled. But I can already use healing magic. So far I only know how to cast it on myself though. Dr. Jay’s mouth fell open in shock. You’re kidding right? It takes years to learn even the basic healing spell. How is it that you can cast any healing magic at your age? Black cleared her throat. Sorry to interrupt but the type of healing magic he uses is a regeneration type. I can use it too but unlike Zen, my magic runs out quick.\n\nDr. Jay’s smile turned to a frown. It’s not nice to tell lies like that. There is no way a five year old can use regeneration magic. The amount of energy it takes to use that kind of healing magic would kill a child. Zen looked at Dr. Jay and crossed his arms. Do you need me to show you to prove that I’m not lying about my magic? Chaotic pulled Zen to face him. Now Zen don’t get carried away. You are still recovering from yesterday. Zen pouted and laid his ears back. I don’t like being called a liar. With that said Zen put one finger in his mouth and bit down till it started bleeding.\n\nDr. Jay gasped and rushed to a nearby cabinet. She pulled some bandages and some supplies to clean wounds. By the time she got back to Zen he had held his hand out to her. She immediately started cleaning Zen’s finger with some disinfectant and gauze. She looked at Zen to see that he was not showing any signs of pain from the disinfectant. Doesn’t this burn at all? Zen tilted his head. Why would that burn? My finger is fine. Just need to clean the blood off. Again Dr. Jay’s mouth dropped open. She started looking over Zen’s hand.\n\nWith a sigh Dr. Jay fell back into her chair. Chaotic looked at Zen with a stern look in his eyes. Zen that was not very nice. Black chuckled. I guess calling Zen a liar brings out his rebellious side. Zen looked down at the floor. Sorry, I just don’t like being called a liar. That teacher at the school called me one. I think Black was madder than I was at that though. Black crossed her arms with a huff. Of course I was mad at that teacher. He was an insensitive jerk.\n\nDr. Jay finally snapped out of her little stupor after witnessing Zen’s little magic show. I think we got off topic here. Sorry for calling you a liar Zen. It’s still hard to believe you can use that kind of magic. And that quickly. You must be able to use thought magic. I believe you were in need of X-rays. What part of your body are you feeling pain in? Zen shrugged. Pick a spot. It will without a doubt be sore. From the tips of my ears to the tips of my toes. I used some enhancing magic that I shouldn’t have. Let’s just say if I didn’t have my healing abilities, all my bones would likely be broken now. This may sound strange but give me five days and I will be good as new.\n\nDr. Jay crossed her arms seeming lost in thought. Now Zen you may have accelerated healing but I think five days to heal bone damage is not nearly enough. Zen looked at Black and she nodded at him knowing what he was thinking. Zen gave a big sigh before speaking. Well the thing is I know that is how long it takes for my bones to heal. This is not the first time I’ve had a broken bone. In fact I would say I’ve had more bones broken than there are people in this hospital. Well some of the same bones had been broken more than once, but you get the point don’t you? No matter how bad the break was I would be fully healed in five days.\n\nDr. Jay’s mouth was practically on the floor. Her shocked expression didn’t change as she spoke. Do you even realize how many people are in this hospital? Zen looked around for a moment. Judging by the number of auras I can see from here, I’d say over four hundred people. And yes I am saying I have had my bones broken more than four hundred times. Trust me that’s not the worst that I’ve been though.\n\nFor a while Dr. Jay just sat there staring at Chaotic and Ruby as if waiting for them to tell her what she was hearing was not true. Black hopped out of Ruby’s lap and stood in front of Dr. Jay and waved her hand in front of the doctor’s face. Hello, earth to Dr. Jay. I know this is a lot to take in all at once, but I think I’m speaking for all of us when I say we would like to get this exam moving. We aren’t getting anywhere talking about what’s in the past. Let’s focus on the here and now please.\n\nDr. Jay shook her head for a moment, then straightened herself a little. I’m sorry, let us continue. I think we can get you ready for your x-rays. We will start with your arms and legs, then do a full body image so we can see where any damage might be. With that said Dr. Jay stood and walked over to one of the taller cabinets and pulled out two hospital gowns. We might as well get both of you ready. Here put this these on. You can keep your underwear on.\n\nBefore Dr. Jay could leave the room so Zen and Black could change, the two of them started stripping off their clothes. Dr. Jay laughed a little. You two aren’t shy at all are you? Most kids your age don’t like having their brother or sister in the room when they are changing. Zen looked at Black then at Dr. Jay. Why would that matter to us? We are exactly the same other than our fur color. By now Zen and Black were in their hospital gowns. Dr. Jay crossed her arms looking a little upset. You two do know the difference between boys and girls don’t you?\n\nZen and Black both looked at each other and laughed. Zen turned back to Dr. Jay. Of course we know the difference. Doesn’t it say what we are in our chart? Dr. Jay looked back at both charts before replying. It says that Zen is male and Black is female. Zen looked at Chaotic and crossed his arms. Are you trying to make this awkward? What if I had to strip naked? Chaotic chuckled and scratched the back of his head. Sorry about that. I’m so used to referring to you two as boy and girl that I forgot to tell the nurse your actual genders. Both Zen and Black are hermaphrodites. When we first met Zen was extremely shy about his gender. He has come a long way. As for Black… she was never really shy to begin with. Dr. Jay scratched her chin. I see, well at any rate let’s head to the x-ray lab. If you will all follow me, it’s just down the hall.\n\nAll the tests were rather quick. After the images were taken they could be viewed as a 3D hologram image. Using science and magic in the medical field was common in cities that taught magic. Dr. Jay immediately brought up the hologram image of Zen’s skeleton. Right away she could see that there was damage on nearly every bone in Zen’s body. Dr. Jay looked at Zen in amazement. How are you even able to move around without collapsing in pain? Zen shrugged. I told you before, this isn’t the worst thing I’ve been through. I guess pain doesn’t bother me that much.\n\nAfter a few more tests were done to see if there was any muscle or organ damage the phone in the x-ray lab started to ring. Dr. Jay excused herself to answer the phone. Immediately she started arguing with whoever was on the other end of the line. No sir I don’t think that’s necessary. I told you in my exam notes what I was told had happened. With all due respect sir that could be the worst thing to do right now. *sigh* Alright you’re the boss. As she hung up the phone there was a knock on the door. Dr. Jay walked over and opened the door. \n\nThree men walked into the room. They were all in police officer uniforms. They took one look at Chaotic and Ruby then looked to Dr. Jay. Is that them? Dr. Jay nodded. Yes but this must be a mistake. You shouldn’t do this. One of the three officers shook his head. I’m sorry doctor. We are just following orders. Now Chaotic Storm and Ruby Singer please come with us. Chaotic looked at the officers in shock. What’s this all about officers? The same officer that been speaking gave a sigh. Well Mr. Storm it seems someone has accused you and your girlfriend of abusing those two pups of yours. \n\nRight away Zen looked worried. Chaotic and Ruby have never hurt me or Black ever. The officer looked at Zen. I’m sorry son we have to make sure. Zen shook his head. No you can’t take them away. I finally have a family again. All the injuries I have are from me using magic I shouldn’t have used. Please don’t take my family away. I don’t think I can take it again. Tears started streaming down Zen’s cheeks.\n\nBlack pulled Zen into a hug. Come on Zen they won’t take us away from Chaotic and Ruby. I’m sure this will all get straightened out. Ruby walked right up to the officer who seemed to be in charge. After all he was the only who had spoken. She was barely able to keep her voice under control. Seeing Zen in tears had her all fired up. Look Officer Doer these kids have been through a lot. Most of the crap they have been through happened before we even met them. I don’t know who placed these accusations but I do plan to find out. Let’s get this done with so we can get Zen calmed down. \n\nAs Chaotic and Ruby were led out of the room Zen cried out to them. Chaotic turned back and gave Zen a smile. Don’t worry bud we’ll be back before you know it. As soon as Chaotic and Ruby were gone, Zen walked to the corner of the room sat down and cried. Dr. Jay walked over and put her hand on Zen’s shoulder. Come on Zen we can wait for them in the exam room. Zen swatted her and away. Don’t touch me. I’m not moving till they get back. Dr. Jay grabbed Zen by the arm and started pulling him. Before she could even get a good pull started Black knocked the doctor away from Zen. \n\nDr. Jay looked at Black with a stern glare. What did you do that for? Black pointed at Zen. His eyes were burning with anger. His fur was standing on end and electricity could be seen sparking here and there off the ends of his fur. Zen gave a low growl. I said don’t touch me. Black crossed her arms and sighed. Well Dr. Jay I think we are stuck. Unless of course you can handle touching a lightning bolt then we would be okay to move him by force. Well not really okay. I’m sure he would fight if we tried that. So best thing would be to wait. Just be glad he chose lightning armor and not fire.\n\nDr. Jay looked at Black in amazement. You mean he has done this before? Black nodded. Of course he has. Well the first time was when he met Ruby. He got woke up when he was having a nightmare. This time he is upset. The only cure for this situation would be to have Chaotic and Ruby back here. Dr. Jay walked over to a nearby chair and sat down. She gave a heavy sigh and slouched down in the chair. If only that stupid boss of mine would have kept his big mouth shut. He saw Zen’s test results and thought right away that Zen was being abused. \n\nBy now Chaotic and Ruby were both in a small room with Officer Doer. The other two officers were waiting outside the room. Officer Doer was a germen shepherd with brown and black fur. His eyes were also brown. Officer Doer looked at Chaotic and Ruby as if they were crazy. You two expect me to believe that that little white pup can use master level magic at the age of five? Do you even know how crazy that sounds? Chaotic rubbed his eyes in frustration. Zen is a very gifted young man. In order for him to even be able to control his energy he needed to have a seal placed that he could open and close. If Zen were to get upset enough he could unleash destruction level magic. It would not be wise to keep him waiting too long for us. \n\nOfficer Doer laughed. Now I know you’re pulling my leg. A kid like that using destruction magic is ridiculous. Chaotic crossed his arms in annoyance. Alright let me ask you this. Have you seen the woods on the outskirts of town? Officer Doer nodded. Yeah there is a patch of it missing now. Someone went and busted up all the trees. Looks like they planted new ones though. Chaotic shook his head. Those are the same trees that were standing tall before. They were revived after being destroyed. Officer Doer raised an eyebrow. Are you saying you know who did all that damage? Chaotic nodded. Of course I know who did it. Zen was in a fight in that very spot. He fought and beat one of the mages council. All that damage was done by Zen. During that fight Zen used level five enhancing magic. For a master of enhancing magic that would be no problem. In order to use enhancing magic of higher levels you need to condition your body to handle it. Zen saw me practicing once with the level five enhancing. It seems he can learn any spell just by seeing it. Needless to say his body couldn’t handle the strain of the spell. That’s why we were here today. To make sure Zen was okay.\n\nOfficer Doer looked lost in thought for a moment. If everything you are telling me is true, that boy needs more help than the two of you can give him. Chaotic nodded in agreement. Yes we knew that from the start. That’s why we asked for the help of the mages council as well as a member of the high council. It is my hope that with their help, we will be able to give Zen and Black as normal a childhood as possible. Officer Doer blinked a couple times in amazement. You two know a member of the high council? In other words the council of dragons, you actually know one of them? Chaotic laughed. I not only know one of them, one of them was my teacher before I joint the battle in the last demon war. The Realm family has watched over everything for generations. My teacher is now Zen’s psychiatrist. It’s strange calling Master Realm, Dr. Realm. Officer Doer cleared his throat and stood. Well it’s clear you two have done nothing to harm your two pups. You are free to go.\n\nBack in the x-ray lab a couple of the other doctors were getting upset at Zen for not leaving the room. Whenever anyone got near him he would put up his high voltage armor and tell them he was not leaving till they brought his parents back. Chaotic and Ruby had gone back to the exam room first. After reaching the room and seeing that no one was there, the two made their way back to the x-ray room. The sight in the room was outrageous. Six men in white outfits were standing around Zen trying to convince him to move. Every time one of them reached for Zen they would get a small shock making them pull their hand back quickly. Chaotic couldn’t help chuckling a little at the sight. \n\nZen noticed Chaotic and Ruby standing at the door. He jumped to his feet and ran to them. His steps were a little funny looking as he fought through the pain of moving so quickly. As soon as Zen was close enough he jumped at Chaotic. Chaotic caught Zen and pulled him into a gentle hug. Zen was in tears as he clung to Chaotic. I was so scared. I thought I wasn’t going to see you again. Black calmly walked up to Ruby and hugged her leg. She then looked up at Ruby. I’m not going to lie, I was scared too. This whole thing was crazy. Can we go home now?\n\nDr. Jay wore a look of amazement. Did he just run across the room? He shouldn’t even be walking to be honest. Zen looked back at her and wiped the tears from his eyes. I would have never ran if this whole thing with the police officers had never happened. I don’t like this place. I want to go home. Chaotic put Zen down. He put one hand on Zen’s head and ruffled his hair. Before we go home we need to get your cloths from the exam room. If you would have gone there and got dressed we could have been on the way home already. Zen looked down with a pout. I wasn’t going to let them take me anywhere without you here. \n\nThe six men that had been trying to move Zen all looked frustrated. We are sorry to interrupt your reunion, but we have a line of people waiting to use this room. Chaotic gave a quick apology and led Zen and Black to the exam room to fetch their clothes. Dr. Jay had followed the wolves back to the exam room. After Zen and Black had redressed she knelt down so she could look the two of them in the eyes. I’m sorry you two had to go through all this trouble. I hope to see you again on better terms. Maybe a checkup or something simple. Zen moved in close and gave Dr. Jay a hug. I’m sorry I yelled at you. Whenever I get worked up like that, I know I’m hard to deal with. Dr. Jay returned the hug and rubbed Zen’s back. Oh you’re so sweet. I completely understand how upsetting this whole day has been for you and your sister. You have nothing to apologies for. Your reaction was completely normal. Well the whole shocking thing wasn’t so normal I guess but other than that… um you get the point. \n\nBy the time the storm family had gotten back to their car it was far later than they had planned for. It was already supper time and none of the family had eaten lunch. With all the commotion of the day no one had even thought about eating till now. It was quickly decided that they would order a few pizzas and pick them up on the way home. Three large pizzas were ordered. By the time they had driven from the hospital parking lot to the pizza place, the pizza was ready. The rest of the drive home was distracting with the smell of the pizza filling the car. \n\nAt the house food was immediately dished up. Zen’s appetite was a little better. He had eaten quite a bit though not as much as Black. After everyone had their fill the TV was turned on. A couple hours were spent watching TV and unwinding before baths and showers were taken before bed. Again Zen and Black had their hair and fur blow dried so that they could sleep with dry fur. There was nothing worse than waking up with matted fur.\n\nAfter their fur was dry the two pups said good night with hugs and both made their way to their room. Zen decided to sleep in Black’s bed so that there was no surprises in the morning. Both Zen and Black quickly fell asleep. They were exhausted from yet another emotional day. Chaotic and Ruby quickly made lunches for Zen and Black. They would just have to warm the soup before leaving for school in the morning.\n\n***\n\nMorning came all too soon for Zen’s liking. Several times in the night he had woke up and made his way to make sure Chaotic and Ruby were still in their room. He had debated on just crawling into bed with them but he didn’t want to wake them. Frustrated with his lack of sleep Zen hopped out of bed with a little less difficulty than yesterday morning. He was still sore all over but the pain was now starting to dull. Black groaned and rolled over to face the wall next to her bed. Zen looked her over for a second before shrugging and heading to the kitchen. The lights were not on yet but light could be seen from the master bedroom showing that the adults were indeed awake. \n\nAs soon as Zen had flipped the kitchen light on Chaotic came walking down the hall. He was shocked to see Zen awake so early. Normally he would have woken up at the smell of breakfast. Good morning Zen how are you feeling this morning. Zen had made his way to the table in the dining room and hopped into one of the chairs. He slumped with a groan. I had a hard time sleeping last night. I kept having dreams that you and Ruby were gone. I don’t know how many times I looked in your room just to calm myself down. Chaotic sat down next to Zen and put his hand on Zen’s shoulder. I know all that stuff at the hospital was scary. If anything comes up like that again all we have to do is get ahold of Dr. Realm or one of the members of the mages council. They won’t let anything happen to you or Black.\n\nZen felt a little more at ease but now his stomach was growling. Zen looked at Chaotic with a smile. Can we eat soon? Chaotic let out a loud chuckle before heading to the kitchen. Alright Zen what should we have for breakfast? Zen let out a little giggle before saying the one thing on his mind. Food of course what else would we have for breakfast. Ruby walked into the kitchen and gave Chaotic a peck on the cheek. You know how Zen is, him and Black will eat whatever we make. Chaotic nodded in agreement. I know, it’s just that it would be nice to have a little bit of input from them.\n\nZen scratched his chin for a moment. How about we have something new? Is there any breakfast food I haven’t tried yet that you know how to make? Chaotic scratched his chin for a moment then grinned. I think I know what we are having, French toast, bacon, sausage, and hash browns. Zen looked a little confused for a moment. Um what’s French toast? Chaotic chuckled and shook his head. You’ll just have to wait and see.\n\nZen decided to wait with Ruby in the living room while Chaotic made his preparations for coffee and breakfast. He hopped down from his chair and made his way over to Ruby. Once he sat down next to Ruby she gently pulled him close as she read over some papers. Zen couldn’t help nuzzling into her side and before he knew it he was asleep. \n\nIt wasn’t long before the smell of food filled the house. Black woke up and made her way to the bathroom. Once she was finished relieving herself and washing up a bit, she made her way to the kitchen and dining area. To her surprise all the food was ready on the table but no one was sitting at the table. For a moment Black looked around confused. Then she spotted Chaotic standing in front of the couch in the living room. The way Ruby was sitting made it so you could only see the top of her head and her ears poking up over the back of the couch. Black made her way over to the couch to see what Chaotic was looking at. When she got around the couch and turned she could only smile. \n\nZen had slid down and now had his head resting on one of Ruby’s legs. He was curled up in a little ball hugging his own tail. Black looked at Ruby who had the same big smile. He’s so cute when he sleeps like that. Ruby nodded in agreement. I know it makes it hard to want to wake him up. Chaotic crossed his arms with a smile. I wonder if we should give him one more day to rest. Black shook her head before turning to face Chaotic. I think that would upset Zen. He was determined to be ready to go back to school today. I think part of him is scared though. Scared of the other kid’s reactions, and scared of losing everything again.\n\nZen started to stir from his sleep. Hearing people talk while he slept slowly woke him up. He sat up and stretched a bit as he rubbed his eyes. Zen looked around a little confused. Why are you all looking at me like that? Ruby chuckled as she gave Zen a quick hug. You’re just so darn cute when you’re sleeping, we almost didn’t want to wake you up. Zen slid of the couch and stretched again. I wouldn’t have slept long. I’m really hungry. Chaotic laughed. Well the food is ready and on the table. Let’s go eat before it gets cold. \n\nOnce everyone was seated, Chaotic started dishing up Zen’s plate while Ruby dished up Black’s plate. Zen looked at to food with a puzzled look on his face. That looks like normal toast with funny colors. Chaotic laughed as he set Zen’s plate down in front of him. Well Zen this is bread with egg and cinnamon on it. You eat it just like you would eat pancakes or waffles. There was already maple serape on the French toast with the hash browns and meats off to the side of the plate. Zen took a bite and smiled. It’s pretty good. I still like pancakes better, but this stuff is good too.\n\nOnce everyone had their fill the plates were rinsed and placed in the dish washer to be cleaned later. Chaotic and Ruby made their way back to their room to finish getting ready. Zen and Black did the same in their room. Zen seemed to like to wear the same type of clothes every day. A simple pair of shorts and t-shirt. Zen really didn’t like to wear shoes but the school dress code had them mandatory. Zen had a pair of tennis shoes. Black had a wide selection of clothes. Sundresses, skirts, pants, short and long sleeve shirts. Today Black decided to wear one of her sundresses. She also put on a pair of long socks that went up to just below her knees. For shoes she had a pair of semi dress shoes that went with most of her dresses. For gym class she had a pair of tennis shoes similar to Zen’s.\n\nAfter dressing, Zen and Black made their way back to the living room. Chaotic and Ruby were just walking out a minute later. The plan was to be at the school early so Zen could talk with Dr. Realm before class. The only thing left was to warm up the soup that went with Zen and Black’s lunch. Once that was done everything was set. With quite a bit of time to spare Chaotic, Zen and Black all filed into the car to head to the school. The only thing Zen would not be able to do was gym class. He still needed more time to heal. All other classes were for the most part okay for him to do.\n\nAt the school Zen went straight to Dr. Realm’s office. Chaotic talked for a moment before heading to speak with Mr. Hanson about Zen’s limits stated in the doctor’s note. Dr. Realm turned his attention to Zen with a smile. How are you feeling today Zen? To Zen that question had too many answers. He rubbed his left hand over his right arm. Well I’m still sore, and… I’m really nervous about seeing everyone in class again. I just don’t know if things will go as well now that they all know what kind of power I have in me.\n\nDr. Realm knelt down in front of Zen and put his hands on Zen’s shoulders. I can’t say for sure things will always go smoothly here at the school. Know that you can always come to my office if you need to. Also everyone in your class has some kind of special abilities. I can say without a doubt that they will figure out their own gifts and who knows in time maybe they will learn to accept yours. Zen smiled and gave Dr. Realm a hug. Thank you, I feel a little better, still nervous but not as bad now. I’ll head to class now.\n\nAs Zen walked out of Dr. Realm’s office Black stood from the floor where she was waiting for Zen. Are you ready now Zen? Black had a concerned look on her face as she looked Zen over. Zen took a deep breath and started walking down the hall toward the classroom. He looked at Black as they walked. We’ll see if I’m ready in a minute. \n\nIt had only taken a few minutes to walk to the classroom. Zen looked in the open door to the classroom. Mr. Hanson was sitting in his desk at the front of the room. Zen took a deep breath before stepping forward to enter the classroom. As soon as he was through the door he looked around the room. All the seats were full save for three seats. Chaise was sitting in his seat but Alex was not in his seat. \n\nBefore Zen could get to his chair Chaise stood and approached him. Zen felt extremely nervous as Chaise approached. He stopped dead in his tracks and watched as Chaise approached. Chaise rubbed his right arm looking rather nervous himself. When he was a within a few feet of Zen he spoke. Um I just wanted to apologies for what happened on Monday. Alex and me and well our family is really sensitive to magic. Feeling the power, you have scared us… more than I’d thought possible. Alex’s reaction was uncalled for and my unwillingness to stop him was no help. I’m sure it’s just as hard for you. Chaise trailed off without finishing.\n\nZen took another deep breath to try and steady himself as Chaise finished his apology. He looked at Chase with a weak smile on his face. I’m sure it was scary. Ms. Savage had scared me. I wasn’t thinking clearly. I should have never shown my powers like that. I’m sorry for scaring everyone. Zen looked around for a moment. Why is Alex not here? A look of worry fell over Zen’s face. Did he get hurt? Chaise was quick to try and ease Zen’s worry. No, Alex got in trouble for calling you names. He has to do his classwork in another room for a few days. He’ll be back in the classroom on Friday though.\n\n\tRelief washed over Zen. The thought that he may have hurt one of his classmates was unthinkable. He didn’t know what he would do if that would have happened. Zen looked at Chaise with a smile. I’m glad Alex is okay. I don’t know if I could handle it if someone had been hurt by my power. Chaise looked relieved to hear Zen say that. Zen wasn’t some kind of monster that would hurt anyone that got in his way. He cared about others, that fact was plain as day.\n\n\tBlack had taken her seat when she realized that Chaise didn’t mean any harm to Zen. She would have put up a fight if Chaise had said anything mean to Zen. The two cubs had to cut their conversation short as the bell to be seated started to ring. Once all the cubs where in their seats Mr. Hanson stood from his desk and began to take roll. \n\n\tOnce roll was taken Zen and Black were given an explanation of what they had missed in class yesterday. For the most part they had only missed a chance to study the spells they had seen on Monday. Also everyone had been paired up into teams. Zen and Black were paired up since they were more likely able to work best with each other. The same had happened for the dragon twins as well as Chaise and Alex. Kain was paired with Charles leaving Faith and Sammy for the last team. The best place to learn about the different aspects as well as some of the formulas they could use was the school’s library. The books that covered the fireworks spells were not allowed outside of the library. Anyone who wanted to learn about them would have to go to the library to do so. During different times of the day classes were brought into the library in order to allow everyone some time to look over the books the school had. Alex would be joining Chaise in the library so that their team would have a fair chance at the knowledge the library had. With that said Mr. Hanson let the teams go to work on their plans for their battles.\n\n\tZen had already taken out a piece of paper and started writing a formula out for the spell he wanted to use. It was extremely simple. This would be the best option for Black to use as well. The simpler the spell the less power it would take to cast. Once Zen was satisfied with his work he passed the paper over to Black to get her opinion. A moment of looking over the spell and Black agreed that it was their best option, however she thought they would need something bigger for the end their “battle”. Zen nodded then gave a sly smile. I want to see if we can do something like a “spirit beast” with the fireworks spell. When I learned summoning that is what they had me work with first. I was thinking something small though to save on energy. Maybe a couple wolf puppies or even wolves. We will have to figure out a way to share energy during the battle so you don’t run out.\n\n\tBlack was somewhat shocked at Zen’s proposal for their final part of their “battle”. The more he explained his plan however, the more it seemed possible for the two of them to pull it off. They would need to do some quick research when they got to the school’s library. In theory it shouldn’t be hard at all to make the firework spell look like a spirit beast. The tricky part will be to make it move around. Today’s schedule for the library time was just after recess. There was plenty of time to get their plan to make their mock battle look believably. It would be another day or two however before they could even practice. Zen still had some healing to do before he was ready to try anything close to fighting. \n\n***\n\n\tThe morning had practically flown by. Before anyone knew it the bell was ringing for lunch. Zen and Black picked up their lunch boxes from beside their desks and made their way to the line that had formed next to the door of the classroom. Mr. Hanson always waited till everyone was lined up before heading to the cafeteria. Once they reached the cafeteria the students with lunches from home sat down while the rest of the class went to decide what hot lunch they wanted. To Zen’s surprise Kain had brought a lunch from home as well. Kain’s lunch was nowhere near as big as Zen or Black’s though.\n\n\tKain opened his lunch box with a somewhat disappointed sigh. He had a sandwich, fruit, and a cup of chocolate pudding. To drink he had a thermos filled with some kind of fruit juice. Zen and Black both had several sandwiches as well as large bowls of mixed fruit. They also had a thermos of soup to split between them and a thermos of cold milk. The two wolves filled small plastic bowls with some split pea soup. They also had some plastic cups in their lunch boxes for their milk. For their sandwiches they both had ham and cheese.\n\n\tKain look amazed as he ate his food and watched the two wolves scarf down their lunches. He finally worked up the nerve to ask. How is it that you too can eat so much? Zen took a moment to swallow the mouthful of sandwich in his mouth before answering. Poppa says its likely because of the amount of magic I have and the fact that Black’s magic is growing rapidly. Black looked at Zen surprised. I think that’s the first time I’ve heard you call him anything other than Chaotic. I’d have thought you would call him daddy. Does that mean we should start calling Chaotic and Ruby Mamma and Poppa? Or mommy and daddy? Zen shrugged for a moment. I still don’t know what to actually call them. Poppa was the first thing that came to mind. Though now that I think about it just dad would probably be better.\n\n\tKain looked rather confused. You two call your mom and dad by their first names? To Kain that sounded rather disrespectful. Zen scratched his chin as he chewed the last bite of his food. By now all the others had taken their seats. Zen swallowed his food before he answered. Well I wasn’t sure what to call them at first. I still don’t really know. They are our new family. But we are not related. I still see them as my parents though. I doubt anyone else would take us in. Oh I guess I never told anyone that we were adopted into the Storm family. Kain shook his head. I already knew that. Rumors spread fast in this school. How long have you been with the Storm family? Zen scratched his chin. I think it was just before August that I actually met dad. Then shortly after mom started dating dad. Kain looked even more confused now. So you have only been a part of the Storm family since just before school started? Zen nodded as he followed Kain back to the classroom. They had to drop their lunch boxes off before heading outside for recess. \n\n\tTo Kain’s surprise Zen didn’t go run around with Black today. Instead Zen walked over to the tree where Kain normally sat down relaxed alone while the others played. Zen wound up laying down right next to Kain. The two of them had been laying down for a few minutes. When Kain looked over and was about to ask Zen something, he noticed that the little wolf pup had fallen asleep. Since Zen was asleep Kain turned his attention to the playground. He looked around for a moment before he found what he was looking for. Black had been standing alone in one of the open patches of grass. He snickered a bit wondering what she was doing. From where he was sitting it looked like she was play fighting my herself. Kain had play battles with his older brother and father many times. It was kind of odd to see someone do it by themselves though. With a shrug Kain laid his head back and stared at the tree above him. Before he knew it he too had fallen asleep.\n\n\tBlack started practicing some basic moves for when her and Zen would show their “battle plan” to the class in two weeks. She knew Zen would be able to follow any movements she made by reading her aura during battle. They could move in perfect sync if they both focused. With Zen’s plan they would be doing hand to hand fighting. Whenever the two of them would block or parry an attack they would send up a firework. This would take some time to get used to. She had already thought of a way to speed up their cast times. They would both have to wear some gloves that would allow for speed casting. There were all kinds of magic weapons that were meant to do just that. Since they only planned to use one spell for the majority of the battle the gloves could be extremely simple in their design. The hard part was going to be the final spell.\n\n\tThe time was getting close for recess to end. Black finished her little practice session satisfied with what she had been working on for now. She made her way over to Zen and Kain. Charles had also started heading their way. The griffin boy was a little nervous about being close to Zen after seeing his little power display. The only thing that eased his mind a little was hearing Zen talk to Chaise this morning. Zen’s emotional display when he thought he had possibly hurt a classmate was a relief to the whole class. When Charles and Black reached Zen and Kain they had to laugh at the sight. The two boys laying on the ground slept almost nose to nose. They weren’t touching each other at all but if they moved closer at all they would bump noses. Black walked over behind Zen’s back and gently rubbed his shoulder.\n\n\tZen slowly opened his eyes. For a second he thought Black was laying in front of him. When he realized that the nose in front of his face was not Black’s he drew a sharp breath and pulled back a bit trying to focus on who was next to him. Zen’s quick move and his gasp woke Kain up. Seeing someone so close to him when he slept startled Kain. He gasped and rolled back. He nearly tripped Charles who was walking behind him getting ready to sit down. When Kain finally realized where he was he relaxed remembering falling asleep next to Zen. He sat up and scratched the back of his head before looking at Zen who was also sitting up. Sorry about that. I’m not used to waking up with someone that close. I’ve head butt my brother several times when he put is head over mine and tried to wake me up. \n\n\tZen looked confused for a moment before he finally asked. You have a brother? How come I’ve never seen him? Kain laughed a little. Well he is my older brother. He is already in high School. It’s not like we see high school students on the elementary side of the school. Allen is already fifteen years old. He is really good at magic. Maybe I can invite you over sometime so I can introduce you to him. Charles looked at kain and Zen for a moment. Do you live close to one another? Kain nodded before he spoke. We can see each other if we stand on our front lawn in front of our houses. I even walked over after school to check on Zen on Monday. \n\n***\n\n\tThe whistle had been blown. It didn’t take long at all to be back in the classroom. Not long after returning to the classroom they made their way to the library. Zen and Black immediately went to the more advanced section for the fireworks magic. Black quickly found several books that would likely hold the information they would need. The two wolves were nose deep in books before the other students even had a chance to find what they were looking for. All the cubs had was an hour a day to look through the information and try and come up with something for their battle. For the first half hour Zen and Black read as much as they could of the books they had found. The second half hour was spent discussing their options. By the time they were done in the library the two wolf pups had a clear plan and the only thing left was to make the final spell for their battle work. The rest of the school day was spent outside practicing. Zen and Black sat off to the side brain storming. They needed to at several times during their fight clasp hands in order to share energy. That would be easy enough. For the final spell Zen would make two spheres of energy. One of them he would control, while the other was controlled by Black.\n***\n\tThe last two days of the week were much like Wednesday. By Friday Zen and Black had everything they needed for their battle. The class would be given the first two weeks of October to practice their routines. Classes were light for the most part. A few hours a night the whole town was filled with the sounds of and lights of fireworks. \n\n\tBy the time the third week of October came all of the school was excited. Each class that was participating in the event was brought out so that the students could show their classmates what they had come up with. \nFor the advanced kindergarten class, the first to show their routine was Alex and Chaise. For the most part they were just jumping around and when they got close to each other they would though fireworks. It looked rather sloppy but it wasn’t bad for their age. \nNext was Faith and Sammy. The two cat girls were close together but never made any contact with each other. Depending on where you stood though it really did look like they were fighting. They would also throw fireworks every so often as they would swing at each other. \nKain and Charles were very similar but they made an effort to make it look like they were being hit. \nCaiden and Camren made contact with each other as they fought. The thing that set them apart from the others was that they would throw in sparks that made it look like they were breathing fire with the firework spell.\n\n\tZen took a deep breath as he and Black stepped up for their turn. They both had dark gray gloves on their hands the gloves had a symbol on the palms of the gloves. To start the two pups walked to the center of the practice court and shook hands. As soon as their hands met energy leapt from both their bodies. As soon as they broke the hand shake they jumped a few feet back before charging at each other. They both were moving fast as they punched and kicked at each other. It seemed impossible that they were even getting their spells off as sparks showered the practice area. The sparks were harmless not even putting of heat. They just put off light before fading away. Several times during their intense barrage of punches the two pups would come to a stop catching each other’s hands mid punch. Each time they did their bodies would once again erupt in energy and the fight would continue. \n\nAfter about two minutes of fighting this way the two pups clasped each other’s paws one last time. The only difference this time was that two large spheres of energy formed around their hands. They growled at each other before jumping back again. In perfect sync the two of them had a sphere in their hands. They both smiled before tossing their spheres in the air. The spheres seemed to just hover above them. The two pups smiled at each before holding their paws up and snapped their fingers. The others covered their ears thinking there would be a big boom. The spheres however took the shape of wolves. It looked like the battle was going to get more intense. Everyone was surprised to see Zen and Black start dancing with each other. The wolves above them also started to dance around. After a minute of dancing around Zen and Black stood back to back and howled. The wolves above the mimicked their motions and then shattered causing more sparks to rain down. Zen and Black stood there back to back panting. \n\n\tMr. Hanson stood their mouth practically on the floor. He looked around at his class. They all wore the same look of utter amazement. There might not be anyone at the school that will have a routine like this. Even with the dancing at the end it was one of the best routines he had seen in years. Despite his thought on the matter, the choice of who would represent the class had to be put up to a vote. He gathered the class around him. Once everyone was gathered he started talking. As I stated before we will now vote on who will represent our class at the festival. Before he could say much more practically all the cubs raised their hands at the same time saying Zen and Black almost yelling. The only ones not raising their hands were Zen and Black themselves. The choice was clear. Zen and Black would represent the class in the festival. The only thing left was to fine tune their routine before the festival. Though what he had seen today was almost flawless.\n\n\t***\n\tOver the course of the whole ordeal of learning and practicing at some point the question had come up about Halloween costumes. In order to choose matching costumes Zen and Black played paper rock scissors. After several tied games Black had finally one however she kept her choice secret from Zen and had Ruby help her get the costumes made for the two pups. It was the night of the festival and Zen still didn’t know what he would be wearing on Halloween night. \n\nThe two of them were given a pair costumes for the festival. They both were dressed in what looked like a karate student’s outfit. Zen wasn’t going to complain. The whole outfit was a really good fit for him. It was also easy to move in. the time was fast approaching for the two pups to head to the stage. The festival started with the younger classes and went to the oldest. Zen was getting extremely nervous. There were so many people around the stage. Black stood beside Zen and squeezed his hand to get his attention. She gave him a smile. Just watch me like we practiced. No one out their matters. We just have to do our show then we get to be the ones watching. Just remember we fight for three minutes then we dance for two. If we end a little soon it will be fine. Zen gave a weak smile and nodded. Black knew the best ways to keep Zen calm.\n\nThere were two figures on the stage before the lights came on revealing Mr. Savage and Ms. Camus standing with microphones in hand. Ms. Camus spoke first. We would like to welcome everyone to this year’s battle royal. I see many new faces this year. It’s always good to see that our lovely city is still growing. For those of you who don’t know what’s going on I’ll let Mr. Savage here inform you all about tonight’s festivities. Mr. Savage cleared his throat before speaking. He gave a soft chuckle before speaking. In the five years of doing this you would think I would be used to standing up here. At any rate we have thirteen pairs of students that will be preforming a mock or play battle. We start with the youngest then work up to the oldest. The battles themselves are harmless. The children will be using a very particular spell this evening for your entertainment. After all the battles are done the rides shops and games will be open for everyone’s enjoyment. Without further stalling and running our muzzles please welcome our first group of students to the stage. Zen and Black Storm please come up and show us what you’ve got.\n\nZen and Black both walked past the two teachers as they exited the stage and the pups entered it. The two of them were holding hands the whole time before they took their positions facing each other on the stage. They both took a deep breath before approaching each other to shake hands. Again as soon as their hands met energy erupted from their bodies. The amount of energy was much greater this time however. Now that they knew how long they have to last their plan was clear. Once the two of them broke their hand shake they jumped back and charged each other. Their battle seemed far more intense this time. Both of them were putting out far more fireworks that were having sparks of light rain down all around. The exchange of strikes looked extremely painful. Both of the pups would punch at the same time sending the two of them skidding a short distance back before they would charge each other again. Some of the blows exchanged by the two pups could be felt in the crowd. Just like they had practiced during key points in their battle they would clinch each other’s hands to exchange energy in order to keep going. \n\nBoth the pups were panting when they came together for the least power charge. They both looked angry as they growled at each other as the spheres formed on their clinched hands. This time when the two pups jumped apart they both had a rather large sphere of energy in their hands. They both wore serious looks as they tossed their spheres into the air. They both paused for a moment before smiling at each other. They both snapped their fingers at the same time causing the spheres to take the form of two large wolves. The one above Zen was pure white and the one above Black was dark gray.\n\nThe two pups stretched a little and the wolves above them also stretched then shook themselves sending sparks of gray and white light flying. Once the stretch was done the two pups started circling each other. The wolves above them followed their movements several feet overhead. Without warning the pups came together and started dancing around each other. Any time they would come together so too would the wolves above them. Sparks fell like rain as the two danced in circles alternating directions.\n\nTo end their dance together, the pups held hands and knelt in what looked like a bow mixed with a curtsy. As they pulled each other out of their bow they turned to be back to back and howled. As they bowed so did the wolves above them. The wolves also spun around to sit on their hind legs back to back before howling. As they howled they shattered sending white and gray sparks flying all around. Zen and Black stood back to back panting as the crowd erupted in applause. Zen looked around for a moment before he spotted his classmates all of which were clapping and cheering. Both Zen and Black gave a quick bow before heading off the stage. \n\n\tAs Mr. Savage and Ms. Camus announced the next students, Zen and Black made their way over to where Chaotic and Ruby were sitting. Chaotic gave Zen a hug as soon as he was within arm’s reach. You two did great. Zen was still shaking a little as he returned the hug. He quickly curled up into a ball in Chaotic’s lap as the next pair of students started their show. Chaotic looked concerned as he held Zen in his lap. What’s wrong Zen? Are you okay? Zen gave a weak nod against Chaotic’s chest. It was just a little too much for me. Give me a minute. I think I’ll be okay. \n\n\tBy the time Zen had uncurled from his little ball the last group was heading to the stage. Kain had been waiting for Zen to poke his head out from under Chaotic’s arms. Once he saw Zen’s head he led his father and brother over to the Storm family. Black had been sitting on Ruby’s lap watching the fireworks as she waited for Zen to recover. She spotted Kain as he approached. She tapped Zen on the arm and pointed at Kain. Zen smiled and waved at the approaching bear family. \n\n\tAs soon as Kain was close enough to the wolves he started introducing his family. He smiled as he talked. As you can see just by looking around, there are tons of new people all around. Lucius laughed and shook his head. I guess you are unaffected by this crowded area? Black shook her head. Some things that don’t scare Zen can scare me and things that scare Zen don’t necessarily scare me.\n\n\tZen looked up at Chaotic. Can we go home soon dad? I don’t know if I can handle this too much longer. Chaotic looked Zen in the eyes and nodded. Sure thing bud we’ll just have to get the two of you changed and turn in your costumes. Kain had a big grin as he asked the one big question on his mind. Are you guys going trick or treating tomorrow night? Zen looked at Black and they both nodded with a smile. Kain jumped for joy. That’s awesome do you think we could go together? Oh and what are you going as. I’m going as a vampire. Black chuckled. That is a surprise. Zen doesn’t even know yet. He gets to choose next year. \tDuring the drive home Black had fallen asleep. The events of the afternoon had taken a lot of her. Chaotic had worried about the blood on Zen making a mess and causing problems in the future. His worry was short lived however. The blood had turned to dust by the time they had reached the house. This caused both relief and worry for Chaotic. If the energy Zen had used turned his blood to dust, what effect was it having on his body? These questions would have to wait. Standing in front of his house were three people he and Zain knew well.

\tThe first two people were Dr. Realm and Lucy. The third person was someone Zen had not met yet. At first glance you would say she was a young teen standing next to Lucy. The truth was that she was older than Chaotic. She was a small Fennec fox. Her fur was a tan color. The hair on her head was her most outstanding feature other than her large ears. Most of her hair was a silver color. There were scarlet highlights that really made her stand out in a crowd. This another member of the mages council. Her name was Scarlet Metal.

\tChaotic got out of the car and started to get Zen from the back seat. Lucy rushed over to help. She went to the passenger side to get Black from the back seat. As Chaotic and Lucy worked to get the two sleeping pups from the back seat of the car, Zain got out and approached Dr. Realm and Scarlet. Zain spoke with a crooked grin. Ah Scarlet in as sour of a mood as ever. What’s got your tail in a bind today?

\tScarlet simply glared at Zain as she crossed her arms. You know why I’m pissed you moron. You were assigned to watch over the school district and call if there were any developments. What do you go and do? You act on your own again and nearly get you stupid ass killed. I swear you could fuck up an assignment even a toddler could do.

\tDr. Realm shook his head. As spirited as ever I see Scarlet. You should really try and control your language around such young ones. You never know when they could be listening. Scarlet only scoffed. I don’t give a crap who hears me. I’ll say what I want how I want to say it. Besides one of those two isn’t exactly innocent is she?

\tChaotic was now opening the front door of the house. Lucy was right behind him with Black in her arms. Chaotic turned back to the three bickering in the yard. As interesting as this conversation has been, I believe it would be best to continue it inside. With that Chaotic led Lucy to Zen’s room. The others made their way to the living room. Once Zen and Black were tucked in bed, Chaotic and Lucy joined the others in the living room.

\tThe tension in the living room was heavy. Scarlet’s mood was getting to everyone. She sat on the couch arms crossed and slumped over. She groaned before speaking. This is fucking fantastic. We have a demon and a time bomb in the other room. This is why I didn’t think it was a good idea to have them two going to school. Dr. Realm cleared his throat and interrupted Scarlet’s rant. What would you have us do with Zen if not have him go to school. How will he learn to control his abilities if he is not taught? Scarlet merely shrugged. How would I know what to do with a couple of brats? As things are now who’s to say that Black isn’t controlling Zen. She could have him blow up the city if we’re not carful.

\tBlack came walking into the living room rubbing her eyes. Now that idea is just stupid. I would never ask Zen to hurt anyone. Not only that but if something were like that were to happen and I did ask Zen to do something terrible, I’m sure I would get smacked through a wall. At the school I asked Zen to show his power. I was pissed at the way that teacher was treating Zen. I know it was a bad idea. Scarlet just laughed. That is the biggest understatement I’ve ever heard. That little stunt got the attention of most of the school.

\tDr. Realm nodded. It would be hard not to notice the school shaking under the influence of Zen’s raw power. We may have our work cut out for us in order to keep Zen and Black in school. We need to find out how big of an affect this situation will have on Zen. In order to find that out we will have to wait until he wakes up.

\tChaotic leaned forward in his chair and rubbed his chin. Well it’s hard to say how long he will sleep. Last time he used his full power he was fine when he work up in the morning. Who knows how long he will be out this time. Black walked over and sat next to Chaotic. She nodded in agreement. It’s hard to say what affects that crazy fire spell had on Zen. I have never seen white fire like that before.

\tDr. Realm gasped. Did you just say Zen used white fire? That is a type of magic only his family can use. It draws a huge amount of energy to create that fire. From what I understand of it there is nothing in this world that can repel that fire. It will burn all that it touches. Black nodded as she crossed her arms. Yes that sounds about right. After all that fire burned my hands pretty bad. If it wasn’t for that healing light Zen put off, I might have lost my hands.

\tScarlet laughed. So this little squirt has the power to destroy us all or heal us all. This is just perfect. Does he shoot glitter out his ass too? I mean seriously what the hell? Is it even safe for these two to attend any form of school? What are the grantees that Zen won’t go off the handle and hurt someone?

\tChaotic cleared his throat and leaned back in his chair. Well to start we have myself and Realm at the school ready to act should the need for us come up. Then we have Black. She stays by Zen’s side 90 percent of the day. If anyone can keep Zen calm she can. There is also a student that might be able to help calm Zen down. Black grinned. Yeah I’d say Kain already stopped Zen from a total melt down at school. He seems to be unfazed by Zen’s power. Black’s grin turned to a frown. Had Alex kept his mouth shut I’d say Zen would have been fine.

\tLucy leaned on the arm of the couch putting her hand to her chin. In order to prevent outbursts like that, we would have to make the other students aware of Zen’s fragile mental state. Or at least make sure they know not to pick on him. Dr. Realm let out a long sigh. Well the problem there is, the school policy is absolutely no bullying. There will always be rule breakers. Scared kids are always harder to deal with. After all it is in our nature to fear that witch we do not understand. Not many students will have the same reaction as Kain Roberts.

\tZain let out a small laugh. Sounds like this Kain kid has nerves of steel. I’d like to meet this kid. Scarlet chuckled. Why? Do you want to see if you can scare the crap out of him like everyone else you show and interest in? Zain crossed his arms and for a moment looked hurt. Come on I don’t scare everyone I like…. Oh ok, you got me. I always like to see people’s reactions.

\tBlack sighed and leaned against Chaotic. That is exactly why you got your butt kicked by a 5 year old. I mean who does that to a scared kid unless you have a few too many screws loose. Scarlet laughed. I like your sass kid. Black smiled. And I like your hair. Is that your natural color? Scarlet blushed through her fur. Come on that’s not fair. Looking cute and complementing my hair. And yes these are my natural colors. I do have to say though the black fur with red and blue eyes is a kick ass look.

\tLucy chuckled. Looks like Black found Scarlet’s weakness to her hard personality. Scarlet let out a low growl and her blush got redder. Shut up Lucy no one asked for your opinion. So what if I like the way she looks. I still don’t trust her. Black shrugged and nuzzled into Chaotic’s arm. I never asked for your trust. That is something I will have to work for. I may never truly earn any of your trust. That doesn’t mean I’m going to give up though. Say what you want about me, I will never leave Zen. I will use every ounce of my strength to protect him and anything he holds dear.

\tChaotic ruffled Black hair with a smile. Does that mean you will try and protect me and Ruby? Black sat up and turned toward Chaotic. Are you kidding? You and Ruby have taken me in. How could I not want to keep you both safe? Chaotic pulled Black into a hug. Just remember I’m not some push over. Don’t go risking yourself for my sake. Black returned the hug. Her ears perked up as the hug ended. Ruby is home. Is it really that late already?

\tBefore anyone could answer Scarlet’s question, the front door opened. Ruby called out as she entered the house. Chaotic I didn’t know we were expecting company tonight. Who’s here? Black jumped off the couch and ran to the door. When she reached Ruby, she put her pointer finger in front of her lips. Shhh Zen is sleeping. There was an incident at school. Everyone is in the living room. Ruby dropped her purse and rushed to the door of Zen and Black’s room. She looked in to see Zen sound asleep in his bed. She gave a sigh of relief and closed the door part way. Thank god he is okay. What happened to him? Black waved for Ruby to follow her as she walked back toward the living room.

\tRuby looked around the room and right away had to ask. Alright I can see some of you are with the mages council. But who is the teen punk? Everyone but Scarlet burst out laughing. Lucy looked at Scarlet still laughing. I told you that you should have warn more formal clothes. Not everyone involved knows who you are or your position on the council. Ruby’s mouth dropped wide open. Holy crap they let teens be on the council? What are you sixteen, eighteen? Scarlet crossed her arms. For your information I’m a fennec fox. We don’t get that big. Also I’m 45 years old. I’m the second oldest person in this room.

\tBlack laughed. If we are talking age of mind or soul I think I have everyone bested. So that would make you the third oldest person in the room. But in terms of body I’m the youngest one in the house. After all I’m only a little over a month old now. Black looked at Dr. Realm. I know you have had your suspicions about me. I guess everything should be brought out in the open. I am a former demon that helped Zen survive those twisted bastards that did all those horrible things to him. Since coming to live within Zen my demonic powers had been slowly purified. By the time I got this body I had no demonic power left. Now I’m just a regular pup with a great understanding of all types of magic.

\tRuby sat down next to Chaotic. That’s not quite true is it? Black you have many of the same abilities as Zen. I mean you can see auras and you can absorb energy just like Zen. Black nodded as she hopped up on Chaotic’s lap. That is true. Whatever abilities Zen has, I should also have. However there are some abilities I still don’t quite understand. Like the blood weapons. That is a rare magic that I have not seen.

\tScarlet crossed her arms. I wonder if Zen is related to that old bastard that won’t even talk to us. Black looked up at Chaotic. Who is she talking about? Chaotic shook his head. Well she is talking about the principal of the school. And Zen is indeed related to him. He is Zen’s grandfather. We tried to contact Principal Voss Godrick about Zen. He wanted nothing to do with Zen. That is probably why he was not at the entrance ceremony. Zain cleared his throat and interrupted. There is another possibility. The rumors about the good principal being a skirt chaser at the school could actually be true. He could have been too involved with his attempts to bed some of the younger staff at the school to attend the ceremony.

\tDr. Realm nodded. I too have heard those rumors. I have a hard time believing them though. And the fact that he was contacted about his own grandson and did nothing to help the poor boy. That is simply disgraceful. Scarlet shook her head. That’s low even for that old fart. He is just as stuck up as he was in the war. Makes me wonder if a demon didn’t lodge something up the geezer’s ass to make him so ornery.

\tLucy let out a short chuckle. It’s sad but true. He was a different person before the war. Maybe we should have him meet both Zen and Black. Chaotic laughed. If he saw Black I bet he would say she looked like his daughter. That’s what Irene Soul had said. We may have to schedule a meeting with Mr. Godrick. Black wore a look of concern. Do you think we will get kicked out of school? Scarlet stretched out before standing. I can’t say for sure what the rest of the council will decide. As for those of the council present today, I think it’s safe to say we want to keep you in school. For the most part we can keep an eye on you fairly well there. Lucy and Zain both nodded in agreement.

\tBefore anyone could say another word there was a knock at the door. Chaotic quickly stood and made his way to the front door. At the door stood Kain. He looked worried. Chaotic gave him a smile. Hello um Kain right? What brings you here today? Kain tried to smile but still had worry all over his face. Um hello Mr. Storm, I live just up the street. I came over to check on Zen and Black. Are they okay? Chaotic turned just as Black came to the door. She gave Kain a warm smile. I’m doing fine. As for Zen he is sleeping right now. I’m not sure when he will be waking up.

\tThere was a call from Zen’s room. I’m awake just give me a second to get out of bed. There was a sound of shuffling then a thud. Ouch… I’m okay. Zen walked out of his room and came to the front door. He leaned against Black. I’m okay, just really tired. I feel like I just ran for 9 days straight. Kain had a look of relief. I’m glad you are doing okay. What happened after you disappeared from school? Zen looked down. I fought someone and hurt them badly. I hurt Black too but I healed them both. Then I passed out. I just woke up so I don’t know how long I was asleep.

\tZain came walking to the door. Don’t worry about what happened kid. I had that hit coming. I should not have messed with you when you were in that state. I’m sorry I scared you. Zen let out a weak laugh. I think anyone would have scared me the way I was out there. I’m just glad you’re okay now. By the way. Your bones are not fully healed. It will be at least 5 days before they are back to full strength. Zain smiled and pat Zen on the head. Thanks for the heads up. I’m heading out now.

\tAs soon as Zain was out in the yard Zen went and hugged Kain. Zen whispered in Kain’s ear. Thank you for checking on me. It’s good to know I have at least one friend at school. Just before Zen broke the hug he gave Kain a peck on the cheek and pulled away. Kain blushed and touched his cheek. What was that for? Zen shrugged. Felt like the best way to thank you. Might be because of how tired I am. Sorry if that was… um weird. Kain shook his head. No it’s fine. I just wasn’t expecting it is all.

Chaotic chuckled. We should get you fed and put to bed Zen. You look like you’re about to fall over. As long as Zen is feeling alright he will be in school tomorrow. Kain Smiled and said goodbye. He ran back toward his house but stopped at the road. He turned around and waved at Zen who was half hanging off of Black as he waved back.  Zen gave a soft chuckle and turned to walk back into the house. He was helped to the dining room table by Black.

Both Lucy and Dr. Realm were shocked to see Zen up and moving around. Dr. Realm walked over to Zen. He looked him over and checked some of his vitals. You really should be resting Zen. You over exerted yourself. You don’t just bounce back from things like that. Your body needs time to recover. Zen waved his hand as he yawned. I have no intention on staying up too long. I just need some food before I go to sleep. Well that is if I can keep myself upright that long. Dr. Realm crossed his arms. How much pain are you in right now? Zen put both hands on the table. Let’s just say I hurt from the tips of my ears to the tips of my toes. I wasn’t kidding when I said it feels like I ran for 9 days straight.

Lucy looked confused. I thought you said you heal really fast. Why would you have so much pain if everything is healed? Zen slumped down with his chin on the table and his arms straight forward. Some things take longer to heal. Skin is the fastest to heal. Organs depending on the damage would be second and bones would be the slowest. Using the enhancing magic I used put a huge strain on my bones. They kept from breaking but just about snapped. That’s why I’m in pain now. Believe me I know how long things take to heal. I had hands on experience for three years remember.

By now Ruby had made some sandwiches. Zen and Black Both ate their fill. After eating the two pups made their way to the bathroom to get ready for bed. It was rather early but with all the day’s events there was no way the two of them would be able to stay awake. Plus Zen really needed his rest. The two pups finished there bedtime routine in record time. They were both in their beds and fast asleep before Chaotic and Ruby could even say goodnight.

Back in the dining room Dr. Realm, Chaotic, Ruby, Lucy and Scarlet were sitting at the table. Dr. Realm had a serious look on his face. I believe it would be wise to bring Zen in to have some tests done. Black too, she was exposed to some extreme magic. The effects could be harmful even after healing. Chaotic nodded in agreement. Yes I was thinking the same thing. I would feel better knowing they are both safe from any danger after this whole ordeal. We will have to call and set up an appointment. With that said Chaotic excused himself from the table to go make a call. Dr. Realm stopped Chaotic and handed him a piece of paper. It had the name of a local doctor on it. With that Dr. Realm said his goodbyes and went home.

Ruby fidgeted a little. So um Scarlet sorry about calling you a teen punk earlier. I really don’t know much about fennec foxes. Scarlet slouched in her chair and waved her paw. It’s no big deal. Most people think I’m way younger than them. You have no idea how many times I’ve been pulled over by an “officer of the law” thinking I was a minor skipping school.  I’ve gotten used to it by now. Being as short as I am has some advantages and disadvantages. You know the usual, fitting into small spaces, no worries about head clearance, and of course a big advantage or a bonus is messing with people that know me or even people that don’t know me. Biggest and most annoying disadvantage is the fact that I get ID checked for everything.

While Scarlet talked Ruby got the two of them some sweet tea. When Scarlet was done talking Ruby grinned. So you like messing with people? Have you got a special someone yet? Scarlet sighed and looked at her cup. Let’s see last time I was “with someone” was high school. Sad isn’t it. Most people are afraid of what others will think when they are seen with me. Scared of the rumors I guess. Ruby also looked somewhat sad. I can’t say it has been that long for me. The last guy I was with found out that I may not be able to have cubs so he bailed. But that was 10 years ago. I have had tests since then. Turns out I can have cubs. It’s just harder for me to get pregnant. This whole situation with Zen and Black has been crazy. But I feel that we are the perfect fit for each other. If by a slim chance I do have a cub then Zen will have a little brother or sister.

Scarlet had a tear in her eye. She put both hands on Ruby’s. You thought your life through that far ahead. I can’t believe how strong you are. When I first saw you, I thought you might turn tail and run at the first sign of trouble. I see now you are in this for the long run. Ruby chuckled. I’ve always been hard headed. I’ll fight till the last man standing. As for turning and running, to me that isn’t an option. Zen needs me. And god knows Chaotic is going to need a hand. Raising a boy or girl is hard enough. These two are both hermaphrodites. I dread how puberty is going to be with them.

Chaotic walked back into the living room chuckling. Puberty is still a few years off. We have an appointment with Doctor Jay. She will be Zen and Black’s primary doctor for checkups. We were referred to her by Dr. Realm. While I was at it I called the school and left a message that Zen and Black may not be in school tomorrow. We will have to wait and see what the doctor says.

Scarlet stood and drank the last of her tea. Ruby it’s been fun talking to you. We should talk again sometime. As for you Chaotic. Keep the yin yang twins happy. From what I understand, they could use a man like you in their lives. Don’t fuck this up you hear? I’ll kick your ass if you do. She looked at Ruby and smiled.  I’ll see you around. The night slipped by with no more incidents. Chaotic and Ruby both decided to get to sleep early too.

In the morning Zen was the first to wake up. He and Black had fallen asleep in their own beds. Sometime in the night Black and crawled into bed with Zen. Normally it was the other way around. Having Black resting against him caused Zen quite a bit of discomfort. He slowly got himself out of bed careful not to wake Black. As soon as he was on his feet he couldn’t help letting out a hiss as the pain in his body throbbed. With a groan he made his way to the bathroom to start his morning routine. The thought was that a hot shower would help sooth some of the pain. Zen quickly got the water running only turning the hot water on. A normal fur would have been burned by the hot water. To Zen it felt heavenly. While under the hot stream of water Zen could feel the pain start to fade.

After soaking in the heat for a few minutes Zen turned the water off and started to towel himself off. He dried himself most of the way and decided to let the rest of his fur and hair air dry. Zen didn’t bother putting cloth on just yet. He was still a little too damp for them. After grabbing his pajamas Zen made his way back to his room. He could see the light in the kitchen was already on and the smell of coffee was filling the house. Once he was in his room he saw that Black had work up. She sat on Zen’s bed rubbing her eyes.

After a big yawn Black looked at Zen with a pouty expression. No fair you didn’t wake me to take a shower with you. Now I have to take one alone. Zen let out a soft chuckle. Sorry Black, I just needed a hot shower to help with the pain. You looked so happy sleeping that I didn’t want to wake you up. Black’s pout turned to worry. I didn’t hurt you when I crawled into bed with you last night did I? Zen shook his head and smiled. No I didn’t even know you had done it. I was a little uncomfortable this morning though. You were kind of laying on me.

Black looked even more worried. I’m sorry I wasn’t thinking. I just wanted to be close to you last night. Zen walked over and flopped face first onto his bed. He turned his head to face Black as she sat on the edge of the bed. You shouldn’t worry about things like that. I like sharing a bed with you. I feel safe when we are close. If I had woke up in the night I’m sure I would have crawled into your bed. You just beat me to it. Black smiled and let a sigh of relief. I’m glad I didn’t hurt you. By the way… why are you naked? Zen chuckled and flicked his tail at Black. His damp fur made a wet slapping sound. It hurt too much to try and rub my fur dry. I’m letting it air dry the rest of the way.

Chaotic peaked into the room hearing both Zen and Black giggling. Oh you two are up already. You should get your shower done. We are going to the hospital before you two go to school this morning. That is if you are feeling up to going to school. Zen rolled over and sat at the edge of the bed next to Black. I already took a shower. Black just has to take hers. I couldn’t dry my fur all the way with the towel so I’m letting it air dry. It might take a while though. Chaotic chuckled. I see, well if you want I’m sure Ruby will help you dry your fur with her blow dryer.

Zen nodded and hopped of the bed. He winced and let out a hiss in pain as soon as his paws hit the floor. Chaotic rushed over to Zen. Are you okay? What’s wrong? Zen shook his head. I just moved too fast. Every bone and muscle in my body hurts. Sitting still makes the pain fade a little. I’ll just have to take it easy. Chaotic still had a worried look on his face. Alright if you say so. I’ll feel better after we get you check out. For now let’s get you dried off and dressed. Black, you hop in the shower. If you want your fur blow dried just come to the master bedroom. Black nodded. Okay I’ll be quick with my shower.

Chaotic lead Zen to his and Ruby’s bedroom where Ruby was still getting ready. Hey Ruby think you could help Zen dry his fur and hair. He is too sore to towel off all the way. Ruby smiled and looked at Zen. I’m sure I can do that. I’ll hold off on combing your hair though. If you’re sore I’m sure that will hurt. Zen nodded and followed Ruby into the master bathroom. It took about 10 to 15 minutes to dry Zen’s hair and fur completely. Black came walking into the master bathroom just as Ruby shut the blow dryer off. She was already dressed but her hair was still quite damp. After another 10 minutes both Zen and Black were ready to head out. The only thing left to do was have breakfast.

For breakfast this morning sausage, eggs, hash browns and toast was made. Zen didn’t have quite as big of an appetite as he normally had. This was not so surprising since he was sore all over. After everyone had finished eating, plates were rinsed and put in the dish washer to be washed later. Both Chaotic and Ruby had taken a few hours off this morning to be at Zen and Black’s doctor’s visit. Arrangements were made with Jewel Realm in case Zen and Black were unable to go to school after their checkup.

With everything in order it was time to head to the hospital. The drive to the hospital proved to take longer than expected. All the morning commuters were rushing to their jobs. Ruby had to call the hospital to let them know they were running late. By the time they had reached the hospital they were ten minutes late. In the waiting room things took even longer. It wound up taking two hours for the doctor to be ready to see the Storm family. It turned out that Dr. Jay was one of the most sought after children’s doctors in the district.

Ruby was eager to meet this doctor and to ask why the wait was so long. A nurse led the Storm family to a small examination room. Once in the room she took blood pressure and heart rate and checked a few other odds and ends for the doctor to look over. After another ten minute wait Dr. Jay finally knocked on the door and enter the exam room. This doctor was of the canine family. She looked to be a Dalmatian. Her head was topped with short black hair. She had soft green eyes.

Dr. Jay introduced herself with a smile and a handshake with both Chaotic and Ruby. Hello there I’m Dr. Jay. Sorry about the long wait this morning. Some poor kid had a few broken bones that needed setting. Just give me a second to look over your charts. She took her seat in the only chair in the room with wheels on it. After a minute or so of looking at both Zen and Black’s charts Dr. Jay turned to Zen who was sitting in Chaotic’s lap. You must be Zen am I correct? Zen nodded and fidgeted a little feeling rather shy around a new person.

Alright Zen I’ll start with you. To start things off I would like to get to know you a little. What’s your favorite color? Zen tilted his head in confusion. You want to know my favorite color? Dr. Jay laughed. Yes that is usually the first question I ask when meeting a new person. It’s kind of a way to break the ice. You know to try and make it easier to talk to one another. Zen had to stop and think for a moment before answering. Well I can’t say that I have a favorite color. I’m always seeing colors surrounding every person I see. I can’t really pick a favorite.

Dr. Jay smiled. Alright what about your favorite thing to do. Zen’s ears perked up and he smiled. That one’s easy. I like to read. I really like to learn new things. Other than reading I also like practicing magic. Dr. Jay gave a gasp. So young and already practicing magic. What kind of magic do you practice? Zen gave a shrug. I really want to learn more about healing magic. For now at the school we are going over basic magic like elemental and enhancing. I really want to be able to use my power to help people though. Dr. Jay gave Zen a warm smile and put her hands on his shoulders. Look Zen it’s nice to want to help people but you are a little young to be using any kind of healing magic.  At your age healing magic would drain all your magical energy in no time flat.

Zen looked Dr. Jay in the eyes and smiled. But I can already use healing magic. So far I only know how to cast it on myself though. Dr. Jay’s mouth fell open in shock. You’re kidding right? It takes years to learn even the basic healing spell. How is it that you can cast any healing magic at your age? Black cleared her throat. Sorry to interrupt but the type of healing magic he uses is a regeneration type. I can use it too but unlike Zen, my magic runs out quick.

Dr. Jay’s smile turned to a frown. It’s not nice to tell lies like that. There is no way a five year old can use regeneration magic. The amount of energy it takes to use that kind of healing magic would kill a child. Zen looked at Dr. Jay and crossed his arms. Do you need me to show you to prove that I’m not lying about my magic? Chaotic pulled Zen to face him. Now Zen don’t get carried away. You are still recovering from yesterday. Zen pouted and laid his ears back. I don’t like being called a liar. With that said Zen put one finger in his mouth and bit down till it started bleeding.

Dr. Jay gasped and rushed to a nearby cabinet. She pulled some bandages and some supplies to clean wounds. By the time she got back to Zen he had held his hand out to her. She immediately started cleaning Zen’s finger with some disinfectant and gauze. She looked at Zen to see that he was not showing any signs of pain from the disinfectant. Doesn’t this burn at all? Zen tilted his head. Why would that burn? My finger is fine. Just need to clean the blood off. Again Dr. Jay’s mouth dropped open. She started looking over Zen’s hand.

With a sigh Dr. Jay fell back into her chair. Chaotic looked at Zen with a stern look in his eyes. Zen that was not very nice. Black chuckled. I guess calling Zen a liar brings out his rebellious side. Zen looked down at the floor. Sorry, I just don’t like being called a liar. That teacher at the school called me one. I think Black was madder than I was at that though. Black crossed her arms with a huff. Of course I was mad at that teacher. He was an insensitive jerk.

Dr. Jay finally snapped out of her little stupor after witnessing Zen’s little magic show. I think we got off topic here. Sorry for calling you a liar Zen. It’s still hard to believe you can use that kind of magic. And that quickly. You must be able to use thought magic. I believe you were in need of X-rays. What part of your body are you feeling pain in? Zen shrugged. Pick a spot. It will without a doubt be sore. From the tips of my ears to the tips of my toes. I used some enhancing magic that I shouldn’t have. Let’s just say if I didn’t have my healing abilities, all my bones would likely be broken now. This may sound strange but give me five days and I will be good as new.

Dr. Jay crossed her arms seeming lost in thought. Now Zen you may have accelerated healing but I think five days to heal bone damage is not nearly enough. Zen looked at Black and she nodded at him knowing what he was thinking. Zen gave a big sigh before speaking. Well the thing is I know that is how long it takes for my bones to heal. This is not the first time I’ve had a broken bone. In fact I would say I’ve had more bones broken than there are people in this hospital. Well some of the same bones had been broken more than once, but you get the point don’t you? No matter how bad the break was I would be fully healed in five days.

Dr. Jay’s mouth was practically on the floor. Her shocked expression didn’t change as she spoke. Do you even realize how many people are in this hospital? Zen looked around for a moment. Judging by the number of auras I can see from here, I’d say over four hundred people. And yes I am saying I have had my bones broken more than four hundred times. Trust me that’s not the worst that I’ve been though.

For a while Dr. Jay just sat there staring at Chaotic and Ruby as if waiting for them to tell her what she was hearing was not true. Black hopped out of Ruby’s lap and stood in front of Dr. Jay and waved her hand in front of the doctor’s face. Hello, earth to Dr. Jay. I know this is a lot to take in all at once, but I think I’m speaking for all of us when I say we would like to get this exam moving. We aren’t getting anywhere talking about what’s in the past. Let’s focus on the here and now please.

Dr. Jay shook her head for a moment, then straightened herself a little. I’m sorry, let us continue. I think we can get you ready for your x-rays. We will start with your arms and legs, then do a full body image so we can see where any damage might be. With that said Dr. Jay stood and walked over to one of the taller cabinets and pulled out two hospital gowns. We might as well get both of you ready. Here put this these on. You can keep your underwear on.

Before Dr. Jay could leave the room so Zen and Black could change, the two of them started stripping off their clothes. Dr. Jay laughed a little. You two aren’t shy at all are you? Most kids your age don’t like having their brother or sister in the room when they are changing. Zen looked at Black then at Dr. Jay. Why would that matter to us? We are exactly the same other than our fur color. By now Zen and Black were in their hospital gowns. Dr. Jay crossed her arms looking a little upset. You two do know the difference between boys and girls don’t you?

Zen and Black both looked at each other and laughed. Zen turned back to Dr. Jay. Of course we know the difference. Doesn’t it say what we are in our chart? Dr. Jay looked back at both charts before replying. It says that Zen is male and Black is female. Zen looked at Chaotic and crossed his arms. Are you trying to make this awkward? What if I had to strip naked? Chaotic chuckled and scratched the back of his head. Sorry about that. I’m so used to referring to you two as boy and girl that I forgot to tell the nurse your actual genders. Both Zen and Black are hermaphrodites. When we first met Zen was extremely shy about his gender. He has come a long way. As for Black… she was never really shy to begin with. Dr. Jay scratched her chin. I see, well at any rate let’s head to the x-ray lab. If you will all follow me, it’s just down the hall.

All the tests were rather quick. After the images were taken they could be viewed as a 3D hologram image. Using science and magic in the medical field was common in cities that taught magic. Dr. Jay immediately brought up the hologram image of Zen’s skeleton. Right away she could see that there was damage on nearly every bone in Zen’s body. Dr. Jay looked at Zen in amazement. How are you even able to move around without collapsing in pain? Zen shrugged. I told you before, this isn’t the worst thing I’ve been through. I guess pain doesn’t bother me that much.

After a few more tests were done to see if there was any muscle or organ damage the phone in the x-ray lab started to ring. Dr. Jay excused herself to answer the phone. Immediately she started arguing with whoever was on the other end of the line. No sir I don’t think that’s necessary. I told you in my exam notes what I was told had happened. With all due respect sir that could be the worst thing to do right now. *sigh* Alright you’re the boss. As she hung up the phone there was a knock on the door. Dr. Jay walked over and opened the door.

Three men walked into the room. They were all in police officer uniforms. They took one look at Chaotic and Ruby then looked to Dr. Jay. Is that them? Dr. Jay nodded. Yes but this must be a mistake. You shouldn’t do this. One of the three officers shook his head. I’m sorry doctor. We are just following orders. Now Chaotic Storm and Ruby Singer please come with us. Chaotic looked at the officers in shock. What’s this all about officers? The same officer that been speaking gave a sigh. Well Mr. Storm it seems someone has accused you and your girlfriend of abusing those two pups of yours.

Right away Zen looked worried. Chaotic and Ruby have never hurt me or Black ever. The officer looked at Zen. I’m sorry son we have to make sure. Zen shook his head. No you can’t take them away. I finally have a family again. All the injuries I have are from me using magic I shouldn’t have used. Please don’t take my family away. I don’t think I can take it again. Tears started streaming down Zen’s cheeks.

Black pulled Zen into a hug. Come on Zen they won’t take us away from Chaotic and Ruby. I’m sure this will all get straightened out. Ruby walked right up to the officer who seemed to be in charge. After all he was the only who had spoken. She was barely able to keep her voice under control. Seeing Zen in tears had her all fired up. Look Officer Doer these kids have been through a lot. Most of the crap they have been through happened before we even met them. I don’t know who placed these accusations but I do plan to find out. Let’s get this done with so we can get Zen calmed down.

As Chaotic and Ruby were led out of the room Zen cried out to them. Chaotic turned back and gave Zen a smile. Don’t worry bud we’ll be back before you know it. As soon as Chaotic and Ruby were gone, Zen walked to the corner of the room sat down and cried. Dr. Jay walked over and put her hand on Zen’s shoulder. Come on Zen we can wait for them in the exam room. Zen swatted her and away. Don’t touch me. I’m not moving till they get back. Dr. Jay grabbed Zen by the arm and started pulling him. Before she could even get a good pull started Black knocked the doctor away from Zen.

Dr. Jay looked at Black with a stern glare. What did you do that for? Black pointed at Zen. His eyes were burning with anger. His fur was standing on end and electricity could be seen sparking here and there off the ends of his fur. Zen gave a low growl. I said don’t touch me. Black crossed her arms and sighed. Well Dr. Jay I think we are stuck. Unless of course you can handle touching a lightning bolt then we would be okay to move him by force. Well not really okay. I’m sure he would fight if we tried that. So best thing would be to wait. Just be glad he chose lightning armor and not fire.

Dr. Jay looked at Black in amazement. You mean he has done this before? Black nodded. Of course he has. Well the first time was when he met Ruby. He got woke up when he was having a nightmare. This time he is upset. The only cure for this situation would be to have Chaotic and Ruby back here. Dr. Jay walked over to a nearby chair and sat down. She gave a heavy sigh and slouched down in the chair. If only that stupid boss of mine would have kept his big mouth shut. He saw Zen’s test results and thought right away that Zen was being abused.

By now Chaotic and Ruby were both in a small room with Officer Doer. The other two officers were waiting outside the room. Officer Doer was a germen shepherd with brown and black fur. His eyes were also brown. Officer Doer looked at Chaotic and Ruby as if they were crazy.  You two expect me to believe that that little white pup can use master level magic at the age of five? Do you even know how crazy that sounds? Chaotic rubbed his eyes in frustration. Zen is a very gifted young man. In order for him to even be able to control his energy he needed to have a seal placed that he could open and close. If Zen were to get upset enough he could unleash destruction level magic. It would not be wise to keep him waiting too long for us.

Officer Doer laughed. Now I know you’re pulling my leg. A kid like that using destruction magic is ridiculous. Chaotic crossed his arms in annoyance. Alright let me ask you this. Have you seen the woods on the outskirts of town? Officer Doer nodded. Yeah there is a patch of it missing now. Someone went and busted up all the trees. Looks like they planted new ones though. Chaotic shook his head. Those are the same trees that were standing tall before. They were revived after being destroyed. Officer Doer raised an eyebrow. Are you saying you know who did all that damage? Chaotic nodded. Of course I know who did it. Zen was in a fight in that very spot. He fought and beat one of the mages council. All that damage was done by Zen. During that fight Zen used level five enhancing magic. For a master of enhancing magic that would be no problem. In order to use enhancing magic of higher levels you need to condition your body to handle it. Zen saw me practicing once with the level five enhancing. It seems he can learn any spell just by seeing it. Needless to say his body couldn’t handle the strain of the spell. That’s why we were here today. To make sure Zen was okay.

Officer Doer looked lost in thought for a moment. If everything you are telling me is true, that boy needs more help than the two of you can give him. Chaotic nodded in agreement. Yes we knew that from the start. That’s why we asked for the help of the mages council as well as a member of the high council. It is my hope that with their help, we will be able to give Zen and Black as normal a childhood as possible. Officer Doer blinked a couple times in amazement. You two know a member of the high council? In other words the council of dragons, you actually know one of them? Chaotic laughed. I not only know one of them, one of them was my teacher before I joint the battle in the last demon war. The Realm family has watched over everything for generations. My teacher is now Zen’s psychiatrist. It’s strange calling Master Realm, Dr. Realm. Officer Doer cleared his throat and stood. Well it’s clear you two have done nothing to harm your two pups. You are free to go.

Back in the x-ray lab a couple of the other doctors were getting upset at Zen for not leaving the room. Whenever anyone got near him he would put up his high voltage armor and tell them he was not leaving till they brought his parents back. Chaotic and Ruby had gone back to the exam room first. After reaching the room and seeing that no one was there, the two made their way back to the x-ray room. The sight in the room was outrageous. Six men in white outfits were standing around Zen trying to convince him to move. Every time one of them reached for Zen they would get a small shock making them pull their hand back quickly. Chaotic couldn’t help chuckling a little at the sight.

Zen noticed Chaotic and Ruby standing at the door. He jumped to his feet and ran to them. His steps were a little funny looking as he fought through the pain of moving so quickly. As soon as Zen was close enough he jumped at Chaotic. Chaotic caught Zen and pulled him into a gentle hug. Zen was in tears as he clung to Chaotic. I was so scared. I thought I wasn’t going to see you again. Black calmly walked up to Ruby and hugged her leg. She then looked up at Ruby. I’m not going to lie, I was scared too. This whole thing was crazy. Can we go home now?

Dr. Jay wore a look of amazement. Did he just run across the room? He shouldn’t even be walking to be honest. Zen looked back at her and wiped the tears from his eyes. I would have never ran if this whole thing with the police officers had never happened. I don’t like this place. I want to go home. Chaotic put Zen down. He put one hand on Zen’s head and ruffled his hair. Before we go home we need to get your cloths from the exam room. If you would have gone there and got dressed we could have been on the way home already. Zen looked down with a pout. I wasn’t going to let them take me anywhere without you here.

The six men that had been trying to move Zen all looked frustrated. We are sorry to interrupt your reunion, but we have a line of people waiting to use this room. Chaotic gave a quick apology and led Zen and Black to the exam room to fetch their clothes. Dr. Jay had followed the wolves back to the exam room. After Zen and Black had redressed she knelt down so she could look the two of them in the eyes. I’m sorry you two had to go through all this trouble. I hope to see you again on better terms. Maybe a checkup or something simple. Zen moved in close and gave Dr. Jay a hug. I’m sorry I yelled at you. Whenever I get worked up like that, I know I’m hard to deal with. Dr. Jay returned the hug and rubbed Zen’s back. Oh you’re so sweet. I completely understand how upsetting this whole day has been for you and your sister. You have nothing to apologies for. Your reaction was completely normal. Well the whole shocking thing wasn’t so normal I guess but other than that… um you get the point.

By the time the storm family had gotten back to their car it was far later than they had planned for. It was already supper time and none of the family had eaten lunch. With all the commotion of the day no one had even thought about eating till now. It was quickly decided that they would order a few pizzas and pick them up on the way home. Three large pizzas were ordered. By the time they had driven from the hospital parking lot to the pizza place, the pizza was ready. The rest of the drive home was distracting with the smell of the pizza filling the car.

At the house food was immediately dished up. Zen’s appetite was a little better. He had eaten quite a bit though not as much as Black. After everyone had their fill the TV was turned on. A couple hours were spent watching TV and unwinding before baths and showers were taken before bed. Again Zen and Black had their hair and fur blow dried so that they could sleep with dry fur.  There was nothing worse than waking up with matted fur.

After their fur was dry the two pups said good night with hugs and both made their way to their room. Zen decided to sleep in Black’s bed so that there was no surprises in the morning. Both Zen and Black quickly fell asleep. They were exhausted from yet another emotional day. Chaotic and Ruby quickly made lunches for Zen and Black. They would just have to warm the soup before leaving for school in the morning.

Morning came all too soon for Zen’s liking. Several times in the night he had woke up and made his way to make sure Chaotic and Ruby were still in their room. He had debated on just crawling into bed with them but he didn’t want to wake them. Frustrated with his lack of sleep Zen hopped out of bed with a little less difficulty than yesterday morning. He was still sore all over but the pain was now starting to dull. Black groaned and rolled over to face the wall next to her bed. Zen looked her over for a second before shrugging and heading to the kitchen. The lights were not on yet but light could be seen from the master bedroom showing that the adults were indeed awake.

As soon as Zen had flipped the kitchen light on Chaotic came walking down the hall. He was shocked to see Zen awake so early. Normally he would have woken up at the smell of breakfast. Good morning Zen how are you feeling this morning. Zen had made his way to the table in the dining room and hopped into one of the chairs. He slumped with a groan. I had a hard time sleeping last night. I kept having dreams that you and Ruby were gone. I don’t know how many times I looked in your room just to calm myself down. Chaotic sat down next to Zen and put his hand on Zen’s shoulder. I know all that stuff at the hospital was scary. If anything comes up like that again all we have to do is get ahold of Dr. Realm or one of the members of the mages council. They won’t let anything happen to you or Black.

Zen felt a little more at ease but now his stomach was growling. Zen looked at Chaotic with a smile. Can we eat soon? Chaotic let out a loud chuckle before heading to the kitchen. Alright Zen what should we have for breakfast? Zen let out a little giggle before saying the one thing on his mind. Food of course what else would we have for breakfast. Ruby walked into the kitchen and gave Chaotic a peck on the cheek. You know how Zen is, him and Black will eat whatever we make. Chaotic nodded in agreement. I know, it’s just that it would be nice to have a little bit of input from them.

Zen scratched his chin for a moment. How about we have something new? Is there any breakfast food I haven’t tried yet that you know how to make? Chaotic scratched his chin for a moment then grinned. I think I know what we are having, French toast, bacon, sausage, and hash browns. Zen looked a little confused for a moment. Um what’s French toast? Chaotic chuckled and shook his head. You’ll just have to wait and see.

Zen decided to wait with Ruby in the living room while Chaotic made his preparations for coffee and breakfast. He hopped down from his chair and made his way over to Ruby. Once he sat down next to Ruby she gently pulled him close as she read over some papers. Zen couldn’t help nuzzling into her side and before he knew it he was asleep.

It wasn’t long before the smell of food filled the house. Black woke up and made her way to the bathroom. Once she was finished relieving herself and washing up a bit, she made her way to the kitchen and dining area. To her surprise all the food was ready on the table but no one was sitting at the table. For a moment Black looked around confused. Then she spotted Chaotic standing in front of the couch in the living room. The way Ruby was sitting made it so you could only see the top of her head and her ears poking up over the back of the couch.  Black made her way over to the couch to see what Chaotic was looking at. When she got around the couch and turned she could only smile.

Zen had slid down and now had his head resting on one of Ruby’s legs. He was curled up in a little ball hugging his own tail. Black looked at Ruby who had the same big smile.  He’s so cute when he sleeps like that. Ruby nodded in agreement. I know it makes it hard to want to wake him up. Chaotic crossed his arms with a smile. I wonder if we should give him one more day to rest. Black shook her head before turning to face Chaotic. I think that would upset Zen. He was determined to be ready to go back to school today. I think part of him is scared though. Scared of the other kid’s reactions, and scared of losing everything again.

Zen started to stir from his sleep. Hearing people talk while he slept slowly woke him up. He sat up and stretched a bit as he rubbed his eyes. Zen looked around a little confused. Why are you all looking at me like that? Ruby chuckled as she gave Zen a quick hug. You’re just so darn cute when you’re sleeping, we almost didn’t want to wake you up. Zen slid of the couch and stretched again. I wouldn’t have slept long. I’m really hungry. Chaotic laughed. Well the food is ready and on the table. Let’s go eat before it gets cold.

Once everyone was seated, Chaotic started dishing up Zen’s plate while Ruby dished up Black’s plate. Zen looked at to food with a puzzled look on his face. That looks like normal toast with funny colors. Chaotic laughed as he set Zen’s plate down in front of him. Well Zen this is bread with egg and cinnamon on it. You eat it just like you would eat pancakes or waffles. There was already maple serape on the French toast with the hash browns and meats off to the side of the plate. Zen took a bite and smiled. It’s pretty good. I still like pancakes better, but this stuff is good too.

Once everyone had their fill the plates were rinsed and placed in the dish washer to be cleaned later. Chaotic and Ruby made their way back to their room to finish getting ready. Zen and Black did the same in their room. Zen seemed to like to wear the same type of clothes every day. A simple pair of shorts and t-shirt. Zen really didn’t like to wear shoes but the school dress code had them mandatory. Zen had a pair of tennis shoes. Black had a wide selection of clothes. Sundresses, skirts, pants, short and long sleeve shirts. Today Black decided to wear one of her sundresses. She also put on a pair of long socks that went up to just below her knees. For shoes she had a pair of semi dress shoes that went with most of her dresses. For gym class she had a pair of tennis shoes similar to Zen’s.

After dressing, Zen and Black made their way back to the living room. Chaotic and Ruby were just walking out a minute later. The plan was to be at the school early so Zen could talk with Dr. Realm before class. The only thing left was to warm up the soup that went with Zen and Black’s lunch. Once that was done everything was set. With quite a bit of time to spare Chaotic, Zen and Black all filed into the car to head to the school. The only thing Zen would not be able to do was gym class. He still needed more time to heal. All other classes were for the most part okay for him to do.

At the school Zen went straight to Dr. Realm’s office. Chaotic talked for a moment before heading to speak with Mr. Hanson about Zen’s limits stated in the doctor’s note. Dr. Realm turned his attention to Zen with a smile. How are you feeling today Zen? To Zen that question had too many answers. He rubbed his left hand over his right arm. Well I’m still sore, and… I’m really nervous about seeing everyone in class again. I just don’t know if things will go as well now that they all know what kind of power I have in me.

Dr. Realm knelt down in front of Zen and put his hands on Zen’s shoulders. I can’t say for sure things will always go smoothly here at the school. Know that you can always come to my office if you need to. Also everyone in your class has some kind of special abilities. I can say without a doubt that they will figure out their own gifts and who knows in time maybe they will learn to accept yours. Zen smiled and gave Dr. Realm a hug. Thank you, I feel a little better, still nervous but not as bad now. I’ll head to class now.

As Zen walked out of Dr. Realm’s office Black stood from the floor where she was waiting for Zen. Are you ready now Zen? Black had a concerned look on her face as she looked Zen over. Zen took a deep breath and started walking down the hall toward the classroom. He looked at Black as they walked. We’ll see if I’m ready in a minute.

It had only taken a few minutes to walk to the classroom. Zen looked in the open door to the classroom. Mr. Hanson was sitting in his desk at the front of the room. Zen took a deep breath before stepping forward to enter the classroom. As soon as he was through the door he looked around the room. All the seats were full save for three seats. Chaise was sitting in his seat but Alex was not in his seat.

Before Zen could get to his chair Chaise stood and approached him. Zen felt extremely nervous as Chaise approached. He stopped dead in his tracks and watched as Chaise approached. Chaise rubbed his right arm looking rather nervous himself. When he was a within a few feet of Zen he spoke. Um I just wanted to apologies for what happened on Monday. Alex and me and well our family is really sensitive to magic. Feeling the power, you have scared us… more than I’d thought possible. Alex’s reaction was uncalled for and my unwillingness to stop him was no help. I’m sure it’s just as hard for you. Chaise trailed off without finishing.

Zen took another deep breath to try and steady himself as Chaise finished his apology. He looked at Chase with a weak smile on his face. I’m sure it was scary. Ms. Savage had scared me. I wasn’t thinking clearly. I should have never shown my powers like that. I’m sorry for scaring everyone. Zen looked around for a moment. Why is Alex not here? A look of worry fell over Zen’s face. Did he get hurt? Chaise was quick to try and ease Zen’s worry. No, Alex got in trouble for calling you names. He has to do his classwork in another room for a few days. He’ll be back in the classroom on Friday though.

\tRelief washed over Zen. The thought that he may have hurt one of his classmates was unthinkable. He didn’t know what he would do if that would have happened. Zen looked at Chaise with a smile. I’m glad Alex is okay. I don’t know if I could handle it if someone had been hurt by my power. Chaise looked relieved to hear Zen say that. Zen wasn’t some kind of monster that would hurt anyone that got in his way. He cared about others, that fact was plain as day.

\tBlack had taken her seat when she realized that Chaise didn’t mean any harm to Zen. She would have put up a fight if Chaise had said anything mean to Zen. The two cubs had to cut their conversation short as the bell to be seated started to ring. Once all the cubs where in their seats Mr. Hanson stood from his desk and began to take roll.

\tOnce roll was taken Zen and Black were given an explanation of what they had missed in class yesterday. For the most part they had only missed a chance to study the spells they had seen on Monday. Also everyone had been paired up into teams. Zen and Black were paired up since they were more likely able to work best with each other. The same had happened for the dragon twins as well as Chaise and Alex. Kain was paired with Charles leaving Faith and Sammy for the last team. The best place to learn about the different aspects as well as some of the formulas they could use was the school’s library. The books that covered the fireworks spells were not allowed outside of the library. Anyone who wanted to learn about them would have to go to the library to do so. During different times of the day classes were brought into the library in order to allow everyone some time to look over the books the school had. Alex would be joining Chaise in the library so that their team would have a fair chance at the knowledge the library had. With that said Mr. Hanson let the teams go to work on their plans for their battles.

\tZen had already taken out a piece of paper and started writing a formula out for the spell he wanted to use. It was extremely simple. This would be the best option for Black to use as well. The simpler the spell the less power it would take to cast. Once Zen was satisfied with his work he passed the paper over to Black to get her opinion. A moment of looking over the spell and Black agreed that it was their best option, however she thought they would need something bigger for the end their “battle”. Zen nodded then gave a sly smile. I want to see if we can do something like a “spirit beast” with the fireworks spell. When I learned summoning that is what they had me work with first. I was thinking something small though to save on energy. Maybe a couple wolf puppies or even wolves. We will have to figure out a way to share energy during the battle so you don’t run out.

\tBlack was somewhat shocked at Zen’s proposal for their final part of their “battle”. The more he explained his plan however, the more it seemed possible for the two of them to pull it off. They would need to do some quick research when they got to the school’s library. In theory it shouldn’t be hard at all to make the firework spell look like a spirit beast. The tricky part will be to make it move around. Today’s schedule for the library time was just after recess. There was plenty of time to get their plan to make their mock battle look believably. It would be another day or two however before they could even practice. Zen still had some healing to do before he was ready to try anything close to fighting.

\tThe morning had practically flown by. Before anyone knew it the bell was ringing for lunch. Zen and Black picked up their lunch boxes from beside their desks and made their way to the line that had formed next to the door of the classroom. Mr. Hanson always waited till everyone was lined up before heading to the cafeteria. Once they reached the cafeteria the students with lunches from home sat down while the rest of the class went to decide what hot lunch they wanted. To Zen’s surprise Kain had brought a lunch from home as well. Kain’s lunch was nowhere near as big as Zen or Black’s though.

\tKain opened his lunch box with a somewhat disappointed sigh. He had a sandwich, fruit, and a cup of chocolate pudding. To drink he had a thermos filled with some kind of fruit juice. Zen and Black both had several sandwiches as well as large bowls of mixed fruit. They also had a thermos of soup to split between them and a thermos of cold milk. The two wolves filled small plastic bowls with some split pea soup. They also had some plastic cups in their lunch boxes for their milk. For their sandwiches they both had ham and cheese.

\tKain look amazed as he ate his food and watched the two wolves scarf down their lunches. He finally worked up the nerve to ask. How is it that you too can eat so much? Zen took a moment to swallow the mouthful of sandwich in his mouth before answering. Poppa says its likely because of the amount of magic I have and the fact that Black’s magic is growing rapidly. Black looked at Zen surprised. I think that’s the first time I’ve heard you call him anything other than Chaotic. I’d have thought you would call him daddy. Does that mean we should start calling Chaotic and Ruby Mamma and Poppa? Or mommy and daddy? Zen shrugged for a moment. I still don’t know what to actually call them. Poppa was the first thing that came to mind. Though now that I think about it just dad would probably be better.

\tKain looked rather confused. You two call your mom and dad by their first names? To Kain that sounded rather disrespectful. Zen scratched his chin as he chewed the last bite of his food. By now all the others had taken their seats. Zen swallowed his food before he answered. Well I wasn’t sure what to call them at first. I still don’t really know. They are our new family. But we are not related. I still see them as my parents though. I doubt anyone else would take us in. Oh I guess I never told anyone that we were adopted into the Storm family. Kain shook his head. I already knew that. Rumors spread fast in this school. How long have you been with the Storm family? Zen scratched his chin. I think it was just before August that I actually met dad. Then shortly after mom started dating dad. Kain looked even more confused now. So you have only been a part of the Storm family since just before school started? Zen nodded as he followed Kain back to the classroom.  They had to drop their lunch boxes off before heading outside for recess.

\tTo Kain’s surprise Zen didn’t go run around with Black today. Instead Zen walked over to the tree where Kain normally sat down relaxed alone while the others played. Zen wound up laying down right next to Kain. The two of them had been laying down for a few minutes. When Kain looked over and was about to ask Zen something, he noticed that the little wolf pup had fallen asleep. Since Zen was asleep Kain turned his attention to the playground. He looked around for a moment before he found what he was looking for. Black had been standing alone in one of the open patches of grass. He snickered a bit wondering what she was doing. From where he was sitting it looked like she was play fighting my herself. Kain had play battles with his older brother and father many times. It was kind of odd to see someone do it by themselves though. With a shrug Kain laid his head back and stared at the tree above him. Before he knew it he too had fallen asleep.

\tBlack started practicing some basic moves for when her and Zen would show their “battle plan” to the class in two weeks. She knew Zen would be able to follow any movements she made by reading her aura during battle. They could move in perfect sync if they both focused. With Zen’s plan they would be doing hand to hand fighting. Whenever the two of them would block or parry an attack they would send up a firework. This would take some time to get used to. She had already thought of a way to speed up their cast times. They would both have to wear some gloves that would allow for speed casting. There were all kinds of magic weapons that were meant to do just that. Since they only planned to use one spell for the majority of the battle the gloves could be extremely simple in their design. The hard part was going to be the final spell.

\tThe time was getting close for recess to end. Black finished her little practice session satisfied with what she had been working on for now. She made her way over to Zen and Kain. Charles had also started heading their way. The griffin boy was a little nervous about being close to Zen after seeing his little power display. The only thing that eased his mind a little was hearing Zen talk to Chaise this morning. Zen’s emotional display when he thought he had possibly hurt a classmate was a relief to the whole class. When Charles and Black reached Zen and Kain they had to laugh at the sight. The two boys laying on the ground slept almost nose to nose. They weren’t touching each other at all but if they moved closer at all they would bump noses. Black walked over behind Zen’s back and gently rubbed his shoulder.

\tZen slowly opened his eyes. For a second he thought Black was laying in front of him. When he realized that the nose in front of his face was not Black’s he drew a sharp breath and pulled back a bit trying to focus on who was next to him. Zen’s quick move and his gasp woke Kain up. Seeing someone so close to him when he slept startled Kain. He gasped and rolled back. He nearly tripped Charles who was walking behind him getting ready to sit down. When Kain finally realized where he was he relaxed remembering falling asleep next to Zen. He sat up and scratched the back of his head before looking at Zen who was also sitting up. Sorry about that. I’m not used to waking up with someone that close. I’ve head butt my brother several times when he put is head over mine and tried to wake me up.

\tZen looked confused for a moment before he finally asked. You have a brother? How come I’ve never seen him? Kain laughed a little. Well he is my older brother. He is already in high School. It’s not like we see high school students on the elementary side of the school. Allen is already fifteen years old. He is really good at magic. Maybe I can invite you over sometime so I can introduce you to him. Charles looked at kain and Zen for a moment. Do you live close to one another? Kain nodded before he spoke. We can see each other if we stand on our front lawn in front of our houses. I even walked over after school to check on Zen on Monday.

\tThe whistle had been blown. It didn’t take long at all to be back in the classroom. Not long after returning to the classroom they made their way to the library. Zen and Black immediately went to the more advanced section for the fireworks magic. Black quickly found several books that would likely hold the information they would need. The two wolves were nose deep in books before the other students even had a chance to find what they were looking for. All the cubs had was an hour a day to look through the information and try and come up with something for their battle. For the first half hour Zen and Black read as much as they could of the books they had found. The second half hour was spent discussing their options. By the time they were done in the library the two wolf pups had a clear plan and the only thing left was to make the final spell for their battle work. The rest of the school day was spent outside practicing. Zen and Black sat off to the side brain storming. They needed to at several times during their fight clasp hands in order to share energy. That would be easy enough. For the final spell Zen would make two spheres of energy. One of them he would control, while the other was controlled by Black.

\tThe last two days of the week were much like Wednesday. By Friday Zen and Black had everything they needed for their battle. The class would be given the first two weeks of October to practice their routines. Classes were light for the most part. A few hours a night the whole town was filled with the sounds of and lights of fireworks.

\tBy the time the third week of October came all of the school was excited. Each class that was participating in the event was brought out so that the students could show their classmates what they had come up with.  
For the advanced kindergarten class, the first to show their routine was Alex and Chaise. For the most part they were just jumping around and when they got close to each other they would though fireworks. It looked rather sloppy but it wasn’t bad for their age.
Next was Faith and Sammy. The two cat girls were close together but never made any contact with each other. Depending on where you stood though it really did look like they were fighting. They would also throw fireworks every so often as they would swing at each other.
Kain and Charles were very similar but they made an effort to make it look like they were being hit.
Caiden and Camren made contact with each other as they fought. The thing that set them apart from the others was that they would throw in sparks that made it look like they were breathing fire with the firework spell.

\tZen took a deep breath as he and Black stepped up for their turn. They both had dark gray gloves on their hands the gloves had a symbol on the palms of the gloves. To start the two pups walked to the center of the practice court and shook hands. As soon as their hands met energy leapt from both their bodies. As soon as they broke the hand shake they jumped a few feet back before charging at each other. They both were moving fast as they punched and kicked at each other. It seemed impossible that they were even getting their spells off as sparks showered the practice area. The sparks were harmless not even putting of heat. They just put off light before fading away. Several times during their intense barrage of punches the two pups would come to a stop catching each other’s hands mid punch. Each time they did their bodies would once again erupt in energy and the fight would continue.

After about two minutes of fighting this way the two pups clasped each other’s paws one last time. The only difference this time was that two large spheres of energy formed around their hands. They growled at each other before jumping back again. In perfect sync the two of them had a sphere in their hands. They both smiled before tossing their spheres in the air. The spheres seemed to just hover above them.  The two pups smiled at each before holding their paws up and snapped their fingers. The others covered their ears thinking there would be a big boom. The spheres however took the shape of wolves. It looked like the battle was going to get more intense. Everyone was surprised to see Zen and Black start dancing with each other. The wolves above them also started to dance around. After a minute of dancing around Zen and Black stood back to back and howled. The wolves above the mimicked their motions and then shattered causing more sparks to rain down. Zen and Black stood there back to back panting.

\tMr. Hanson stood their mouth practically on the floor. He looked around at his class. They all wore the same look of utter amazement. There might not be anyone at the school that will have a routine like this. Even with the dancing at the end it was one of the best routines he had seen in years. Despite his thought on the matter, the choice of who would represent the class had to be put up to a vote. He gathered the class around him. Once everyone was gathered he started talking. As I stated before we will now vote on who will represent our class at the festival. Before he could say much more practically all the cubs raised their hands at the same time saying Zen and Black almost yelling. The only ones not raising their hands were Zen and Black themselves. The choice was clear. Zen and Black would represent the class in the festival. The only thing left was to fine tune their routine before the festival. Though what he had seen today was almost flawless.

\tOver the course of the whole ordeal of learning and practicing at some point the question had come up about Halloween costumes. In order to choose matching costumes Zen and Black played paper rock scissors. After several tied games Black had finally one however she kept her choice secret from Zen and had Ruby help her get the costumes made for the two pups. It was the night of the festival and Zen still didn’t know what he would be wearing on Halloween night.

The two of them were given a pair costumes for the festival. They both were dressed in what looked like a karate student’s outfit. Zen wasn’t going to complain. The whole outfit was a really good fit for him. It was also easy to move in. the time was fast approaching for the two pups to head to the stage. The festival started with the younger classes and went to the oldest. Zen was getting extremely nervous. There were so many people around the stage. Black stood beside Zen and squeezed his hand to get his attention. She gave him a smile. Just watch me like we practiced. No one out their matters. We just have to do our show then we get to be the ones watching. Just remember we fight for three minutes then we dance for two. If we end a little soon it will be fine. Zen gave a weak smile and nodded. Black knew the best ways to keep Zen calm.

There were two figures on the stage before the lights came on revealing Mr. Savage and Ms. Camus standing with microphones in hand. Ms. Camus spoke first. We would like to welcome everyone to this year’s battle royal. I see many new faces this year. It’s always good to see that our lovely city is still growing. For those of you who don’t know what’s going on I’ll let Mr. Savage here inform you all about tonight’s festivities. Mr. Savage cleared his throat before speaking. He gave a soft chuckle before speaking. In the five years of doing this you would think I would be used to standing up here. At any rate we have thirteen pairs of students that will be preforming a mock or play battle. We start with the youngest then work up to the oldest. The battles themselves are harmless. The children will be using a very particular spell this evening for your entertainment. After all the battles are done the rides shops and games will be open for everyone’s enjoyment. Without further stalling and running our muzzles please welcome our first group of students to the stage. Zen and Black Storm please come up and show us what you’ve got.

Zen and Black both walked past the two teachers as they exited the stage and the pups entered it. The two of them were holding hands the whole time before they took their positions facing each other on the stage. They both took a deep breath before approaching each other to shake hands. Again as soon as their hands met energy erupted from their bodies. The amount of energy was much greater this time however. Now that they knew how long they have to last their plan was clear. Once the two of them broke their hand shake they jumped back and charged each other. Their battle seemed far more intense this time. Both of them were putting out far more fireworks that were having sparks of light rain down all around. The exchange of strikes looked extremely painful. Both of the pups would punch at the same time sending the two of them skidding a short distance back before they would charge each other again. Some of the blows exchanged by the two pups could be felt in the crowd. Just like they had practiced during key points in their battle they would clinch each other’s hands to exchange energy in order to keep going.

Both the pups were panting when they came together for the least power charge. They both looked angry as they growled at each other as the spheres formed on their clinched hands. This time when the two pups jumped apart they both had a rather large sphere of energy in their hands. They both wore serious looks as they tossed their spheres into the air. They both paused for a moment before smiling at each other. They both snapped their fingers at the same time causing the spheres to take the form of two large wolves. The one above Zen was pure white and the one above Black was dark gray.

The two pups stretched a little and the wolves above them also stretched then shook themselves sending sparks of gray and white light flying. Once the stretch was done the two pups started circling each other. The wolves above them followed their movements several feet overhead. Without warning the pups came together and started dancing around each other. Any time they would come together so too would the wolves above them. Sparks fell like rain as the two danced in circles alternating directions.

To end their dance together, the pups held hands and knelt in what looked like a bow mixed with a curtsy. As they pulled each other out of their bow they turned to be back to back and howled. As they bowed so did the wolves above them. The wolves also spun around to sit on their hind legs back to back before howling. As they howled they shattered sending white and gray sparks flying all around. Zen and Black stood back to back panting as the crowd erupted in applause. Zen looked around for a moment before he spotted his classmates all of which were clapping and cheering. Both Zen and Black gave a quick bow before heading off the stage.

\tAs Mr. Savage and Ms. Camus announced the next students, Zen and Black made their way over to where Chaotic and Ruby were sitting. Chaotic gave Zen a hug as soon as he was within arm’s reach. You two did great. Zen was still shaking a little as he returned the hug. He quickly curled up into a ball in Chaotic’s lap as the next pair of students started their show. Chaotic looked concerned as he held Zen in his lap. What’s wrong Zen? Are you okay? Zen gave a weak nod against Chaotic’s chest. It was just a little too much for me. Give me a minute. I think I’ll be okay.

\tBy the time Zen had uncurled from his little ball the last group was heading to the stage. Kain had been waiting for Zen to poke his head out from under Chaotic’s arms. Once he saw Zen’s head he led his father and brother over to the Storm family. Black had been sitting on Ruby’s lap watching the fireworks as she waited for Zen to recover. She spotted Kain as he approached. She tapped Zen on the arm and pointed at Kain. Zen smiled and waved at the approaching bear family.

\tAs soon as Kain was close enough to the wolves he started introducing his family. He smiled as he talked. Hello Mr. and umm Ms. Storm, Zen and Black. Ruby Chuckled and interrupted him. I’m not actually a Storm yet. My name is Ruby Singer nice to meet you Kain. A blush fell over the bears face. Sorry umm I’d like for you to meet my brother and my father. My brother is Allen and my father’s name is Lucius. Zen gave a shy smile Mr. Roberts, n… nice to meet you. Chaotic held out a hand from around Zen. It’s a pleasure to meet you, I’m Chaotic Storm. The large Black bear shook Chaotic’s offered hand before looking down at Zen. That was some show you two put on. I think the only other ones that could match your cast speed was the juniors and seniors. I’d say you two took the show.

\tZen somewhat hid in Chaotic’s arms as he was praised. T… thank you. Black chuckled. Sorry Mr. Roberts, Zen gets nervous around new people. As you can see just by looking around, there are tons of new people all around. Lucius laughed and shook his head. I guess you are unaffected by this crowded area? Black shook her head. I wouldn’t say that. I’m rather nervous but I’m also not shy. Zen and I are opposites. Some things that don’t scare Zen can scare me and things that scare Zen don’t necessarily scare me.

\tZen looked up at Chaotic. Can we go home soon dad? I don’t know if I can handle this too much longer. Chaotic looked Zen in the eyes and nodded. Sure thing bud we’ll just have to get the two of you changed and turn in your costumes. Kain had a big grin as he asked the one big question on his mind. Are you guys going trick or treating tomorrow night? Zen looked at Black and they both nodded with a smile. Kain jumped for joy. That’s awesome do you think we could go together? Oh and what are you going as. I’m going as a vampire. Black chuckled. That is a surprise. Zen doesn’t even know yet. He gets to choose next year. Zen nodded. Yep that’s what we agreed to do. I don’t think I will keep my choice a secret though. Ruby and Black both went shopping the other day for the costumes. I’m kind of nervous though. Black has a strange sense of humor. I have a feeling I’m going to be embarrassed by whatever I’ll be wearing.

\tWith that Zen and Black both got changed. By the time they were done changing most of the crowd had moved to where the rides and games were. A few minutes later the Storm family was on their way home. After eating a quick dinner Zen and Black decided to turn in early for the night. Tomorrow would be filled with tricks, treats and scares for sure.
