Hector had known it was a mistake to answer the employment ad in the newspaper. "Great Opportunities for Travel," it had said. "Influence others and make money. Sounds good, yes no?" The language should have given it away, but Hector hadn't had much experience with Don Karnage and his crew. He hadn't yet been held up or captured.
When he'd shown up for the interview and tried to bow out gracefully, a machete at his neck convinced him to give the air pirates a try. What choice did he have?
But, like all of Karnage's best-laid plans, things had started to fall apart almost as soon as they were put into place. Planes fell, the Iron Vulture was crippled by...laser blasts? And they had been boarded by a group of dogs in shiny suits. A small but unsuccessful effort to repel them had ensued, and before they knew it Karny had flown off with his higher-level thugs and left the rest of them (including the temps like Hector) to the authorities.
Though Hector couldn't put his finger on it, he knew these "Road Rovers" were foreigners. Perhaps from across the channel...
The coyolf didn't bother to struggle against his bonds; the golden dog called Hunter had done a good enough job of muzzling him and handing him over to the husky to be put into the brig. His chains rattled against the bulkhead in halfhearted protest.
"You are not being able to answer, I understand." Exile knelt beside Hector, his bulky frame a contrast to the erstwhile pirate's chunkier body. "Muzzle would be proud. But I am having question for you, comrade coyote."
Hector gave him a look that said he would try to answer as best he could with his mouth forced shut.
"You did not want to be doing this craziness." A statement, not a question, but Hector nodded anyway. Suddenly he felt he was among among a friend, a friend who somehow knew he never wanted to join up with this crew in the first place. Fingers stroked his ear, sending a shiver down to his tail. "The others do not know I am being here. They are think you are evil like others. But I am knowing you are no pirate." Exile tapped his nose. "You smell like showering."
Hector had to chuckle at that, and since the husky had mentioned it he could smell the musk of exertion coming off the husky from his heroic deeds. The finger kept up its work on his ear, twirling the fur every so gently, almost teasingly. Something unsaid passed between them, shared in scent and sight rather than in words.
"Don't think me weird boy," Exile huffed. "But are you of thinking I should lock door?" A familiar fullness pressed against his thigh.
Hector had never been more glad to resign from a position in his life.

This is an old, old image I found in the process of updating all my galleries, and I was surprised I had never uploaded it when it was originally done for me in...2007? Sheesh. I'd had an idea for a Road Rovers/Tailspin slash story floating around in my head for some time, and it never materialized. It still may, if it warrants writing. But I did, and still do, harbor a boner for Exile (though I prefer him with a belly, but I wanted to stay on model here).
So I called up Crazy-Husky and voila, true to form he was quick with the turnaround and got this thing all colored up for me. Enjoy!
