"description": "I have been working on this lore for a couple years now, and believe it is finally ready to post.\n\nI finished it a month or so ago, and had intended to complete a comprehensive ref sheet to go with it, but my schedule yields little time for art.\n\nfor now, I will post it with this title card that I made for it really quick, using a binary brush I made.\n\nI'm really proud of the vaeu's story, and look forward to being able to complete more art of them and the other species on their planet soon.\n\n~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\n\nI have really wanted to complete a comprehensive write up for the vaeu for a really long time. I know it’s silly to have a complete text wall in a ref sheet description, but I sorta don’t care. xwx read it if you wanna. but don’t feel obligated. I just love this worldbuilding shit.\n\nHere’s the breakdown of what there is to know about my silly hairless antelopes. There will be a table of contents, numerically ordered per section, for my own reference if nothing else.\n\nFair warning.\nSome of the details and factoids are a little bit lewd. As such, I apologize for any inconvenience.\n\nHere we go.\n\n1. Simple species description\n2. History of the homeworld, before the vaeu\n3. Resonance, and what it left behind\n4. Vaeu technology\n5. The rack\n6. The high council\n7. Physiology\n8. Gender, sexuality and reproduction\n9. Lope Linguistics\n10. Conclusion\n\n1. Simple species description\n\nVaeu are a species of antelope that live in a universe parallel to that of Earth's own. Vaeu are completely hairless, extremely intelligent, and capable of verbal communication on the level of human speech. Their skin is slightly course, like 1000 grit sandpaper, such that running your hand over it, it would feel smooth and dry. Exceptions to this are the more delicate areas like the eyelids and what not, where the skin is noticeably softer and more stretchy.\n\nVaeu are Quadrupedal. In the cannon lore, any other body types, like anthro or taur types, are actually synthetically produced bodies that are being piloted by a real vaeu, via neural link, which I get into in “vaeu technology”.\n\n\n2. History of the homeworld, before the vaeu\n\nThe vaeu homeworld was once very similar to earth, but with a higher percentage of dry land. It was home to several hundred thousand species of creatures, many of which may have looked similar to those we have had on earth.\n\nWhere most of these species kept to themselves and struggled just to survive, a single bipedal race once ruled as the dominant species of the world. This race of bipeds, having been more intellectually capable than the other species, developed a sprawling society that covered the globe.\n\nHell-bent on attaining as much knowledge and power as possible, this bipedal race, toyed with forces beyond their control. In an experiment that hoped to create a limitless source of energy, they accidentally set off a chain reaction that shifted the atomic structure of the world’s core. This shift turned the world into a self-sustaining power plant, but not in the way the bipeds had hoped. Instead of creating a source of endless electrical energy, the core simply became dangerously radioactive.\n\nThe radiation that was created that day, (now called resonance) completely permeated the world’s solid matter and atmosphere, and proved deadly. These bipedal precursors, once strong and unwavering in their rule over the world, were wiped out in a single day. The same fate befell almost all of the other species of animals on the planet, and half of the species of plants. The few animal species that survived only did so because of a miraculous mutation triggered by the resonance.\n\n\n3. Resonance, and what it left behind\n\nWhen the resonance hit, the animal species that survived its onset were physiologically and psychologically changed by it. Their bodies became structurally augmented, and their intellects were broadened and sharpened. These benefits however, came at a cost. The newly uplifted species of the world became reliant on the resonance, growing weak if they ventured for too long, to parts of the world where the radiation was less concentrated. These remaining species, often found themselves congregating in the densest resonance zones, closer to sea level.\n\nThere are 20 distinct animal species surviving on the vaeu homeworld, each with a few of their own subspecies. Half of these species fall under the same genus as the common vaeu. The other species are a mixed bag of different herbivorous creatures. All predator species were obliterated by the resonance, but despite their disappearance, millions of years worth of evolution prior to the fall, keep the physical traits of the surviving species rather prey like.\n\nWhen the resonance hit, all insect and microbiological life was decimated. Left without such an integral piece of the ecosystem, life should have been left in ruin, but something very strange happened. The resonance triggered mutation on the cellular level of every animal, making their cells highly communicative and self sufficient. Processes that once needed the assistance of microbial life, can now be fully carried out by the body, on its own.\n\nThe cells of every living animal, are now capable of communicating with each-other in a body-wide mesh network. If one cell needs something, all the other cells in contact with it communicate its needs, and can deliver what is being asked for. This makes the healing process extremely efficient, and helps the creatures of the world live longer than they would have, before the resonance hit.\n\nWhen an animal of the world dies however, their cells lose contact with one another, and stop functioning within seconds. The dead cells of any animal that has perished are no longer capable of conducting resonance, and without its support, the cells dry up, and become disassembled on a molecular level. A dead animal on the vaeu homeworld will turn into nothing more than pale, grey, dust, over the course of a day.\n\nVaeu, and the other surviving species, can leave the planet, and it's atmospheres resonance for about a week, before resonance deficiency sickness starts to kick in. This means, the can travel to space, and can interact with other planets species on the world's surrounding orbital stations, but must return before long.\nThese creatures would carry with them a residual amount of resonance, that could prove harmful to other world's species, were they to spend too long in close proximity to one another.\n\n4. Vaeu technology\n\nWhen the resonance took hold, and the vaeu found themselves uplifted by the radiation's embrace, the world was a mess. The bipedal race that had ruled over the planet before their self inflicted extinction, had left things in shambles. Struck with a newfound curiosity, the vaeu explored the ruins of the dead civilization. Vast cities around the world quickly proved themselves to be gold mines full of information.\n\nThe technology left behind by the precursors became inherited by the surviving races. Much of this technology however, proved useless to beings that lacked hands. It took a few decades before the animals of the world figured out ways to use the technologies they now possessed. Most of the ways the creatures of the world use technology, would not have come about without a very important piece of equipment that the vaeu discovered in the precursor ruins. This device, which will be explained in section 5, is called “the rack”.\n\nWith the help of the rack, The surviving species worked together to create agricultural greenhouse towers to fight the famine that ensued when much of the world's plantlife died off. The vaeu devised ways to make use of the vehicles and machinery that the precursors left behind, but leery of the potential this technology had, the surviving species of the world decided to build a council of leaders to maintain a sustainable society. Section 6 talks a bit about this council.\n\nSince the collapse, the surviving species have worked together to build a modern society. They make use of long range communication, high speed transport on land, sea and air, and have even become space faring to some extent. Their exploits outside of the homeworlds atmosphere have been hindered however, by their reliance on the resonance. Creatures of the world can not spend more than a week in space, and many of the early space travellers perished, having succumbed to the effects of resonance deprivation sickness. Their ash-like remains still drift in the shuttles they had tried to use to reach nearby moons. This is why all space travel is now conducted using synthetic bodies controlled by the rack.\n\n\n5. The rack\n\nWhen the bipedal precursors used to rule over the planet, they were extraordinarily tech savvy. They built advanced technologies that helped them live more comfortably. One of these technologies is now called “the rack”. The rack is a neural interface system that uses molecular pairing to allow a living creature to connect their mind to, and control a synthetically produced body. When piloting a synth, the operator on the rack remains conscious in mind, but their body falls limp, as all motor control and sensory feedback is routed to the synth. With the rack, a pilot can carry out dangerous tasks without fear of death. If a synth body is destroyed, the pilot remains unharmed.\n\nSynths controlled by the rack, are produced using a kind of biological 3d printer. A design can be placed in the system, and it will produce the new body. Synthetic bodies can be very simple and robotic, or they can be very complex, and almost indistinguishable from flesh and blood organisms.\n\nSome pilots get an exact copy of their own body constructed, so they can go about their day to day tasks without fear of injury. Other pilots have asked for a body with different physical parameters than what they were born with.\n\nWhen the Vaeu first stumbled upon synthrack technology, one of them accidentally paired up with a bipedal “humanoid” body. Instantly understanding the usefulness of hands, the vaeu began producing their own bipedal bodies for use as a tool to help the progress of day to day life.\n\nMany pilots use their synths for practical purposes like craftsmanship, complex technological tasks, or space travel wherein their biological bodies would normally have perished from resonance deficiency sickness. Other pilots use synths as a source of entertainment. A synth is not restricted to keeping the features of the species that built it. The possibilities are endless when designing a synthetic body for ones self. Want four arms? done. Decided to try flying? you can be a birb. Anything that a bio engineer can design, can be printed and piloted.\n\nAs each pilot will have different preferences, the Vaeu have built many different styles of rack for their own use. They have also designed a few for the other surviving species to use. However, the vaeu remain the primary user of this technology, as the other races often show less interest in it.\n\nOf these different designs of rack, many of them include life support systems to allow for a pilot to operate for hours, or in some cases, days or weeks, before having to log out and spend time in their own body again. Life support systems for pilots who need to run a synth for days at a time, would include a feeding tube, and some form of waste matter collector, along with the standard vital sign monitors and thermal balancing unit.\n\nWhen a pilot is logged into a synth, they receive visual input from the synth, as well as olfactory, audio, taste, and tactile sensory input from both the synth, AND their own body on the rack. Because of this, most pilots tend to get custom fitted racks, or use sensory deprivation tanks in order to remain comfortable and focused on only the sensations the synth is transmitting.\n\nA pilot on their rack is completely vulnerable and immobile during their time linked to a synth. They can log out at any time, but quickly coming back to ones own body while in the midst of doing something as a synth, isn’t always possible. This can lead to a lot of paranoia, and a lot of vaeu prefer to have their rack inside a room that they can lock from the inside. Some vaeu however, especially ones that work as part of a company, might have secure areas where only authorized personnel have access to where they have their racks set up. This way, medical staff can keep tabs on the motionless forms of active pilots.\n\nWhen on a rack and linked to a synth, the pilot’s body is at rest, but their mind is still fully awake. Simply logging into a synth is not a replacement for sleep, and a user must either sleep as their synth, putting both bodies and their mind to rest, or log out of the synth, and go sleep with just their own body. A pilot can fall asleep and wake up while piloting a synth, without having to log out and log back in. Once tied-in to the rack via their neural interface, the pilot can log in and out of a single synth, by simply thinking about doing so. One pilot on a rack, can log in and out of up to ten different synths, using one at a time and allowing the others to sit dormant.\n\n\n6. The high council\n\nThe surviving species of the vaeu homeworld were once simple creatures. Before the fall of the precursors, they were driven by instinct, and minimal amounts of knowledge passed down from generation to generation. When the resonance hit however, the surviving species became uplifted, and rose to a much higher level of intellect and prowess. Observing the world around them, and understanding how horribly the precursors had mismanaged their society, the surviving species spoke amongst themselves, and eventually came to the decision that a council of overseers would be needed in order to build a strong and sustainable society.\n\nThree members of every species of the world were chosen to represent their species and its interests. All of these representatives combined, make up what is simply referred to as “the council”\n\nThe council members are rotated in and out of duty in an endless cycle, such that a single member would never remain in the council for more than three years. As a new council member from any of the species is being brought into the fold, the longest running member of that same species steps down. This way, there are always two council members per species that are fully up to date on the current state of affairs.\n\nWhen something is going wrong in the lives of the people of any of the the surviving species, it is brought to the attention of the council. Capable and intelligent, the council members devise solutions to problems as they arise, and vote to decide which one should be implemented. Once a solution has been given to the people, it is seen to that a solid attempt to fix the problem has been made. If the problem continues or worsens, the council votes again on a new solution based upon any further information about the problem that may have come up.\n\nThrough history, since the fall of the precursors, the council has been continuously refined into a highly efficient system of problem solving. With the councils help, civilization on the vaeu homeworld continues to better itself with each passing year.\n\n\n7. Physiology\n\na.\n\nResembling the antelopes of our own realm, the vaeu are quadrupedal, even-toed ungulates. Their skin is smooth and dry, and completely devoid of pores or hair follicles. Vaeu are hairless on all parts of their body. The only exception to this is their eyelashes which in some cases, grow to be quite long. Average height of the common vaeu, to the top of the shoulder, is 3’ or 914.4mm. Some subspecies have a different stature, and overall proportion depends on the geological region they hail from.\n\nVaeu hooves are very similar to those of the ungulates we know, and are continuously growing. Their horns are made of the same keratinous material, and continually grow unless triggered to shed, meaning horns can sometimes grow to extreme lengths.\n\nVaeu have a long, prehensile tongue that is capable of assisting with foraging overhead vegetation. Lacking upper incisors or canines, vaeu dentition is very similar to what you would find in an ungulate’s mouth. lower incisors, a dental pad, and some molars in the back. Their diet, like all surviving animal species of the world, is completely herbivorous. The vaeu digestive system is extremely simple and efficient. Instead of a complex set of different organs that work together to extract nutrients from their food, the vaeu have only two organs for this task; The central tract, and the utility mass, which is stored in the digestive cavity.\n\nThe central tract is comprised of the mouth, esophagus, medial duct, and the rectum. It is a straight tube from mouth to anus, that contains several sphincter muscles and openings that allow for life critical tasks. From the mouth, the esophagus leads down into the chest, where the central tract forks into two paths, each controlled by a sphincter muscle set.\n\nWhen a vaeu consumes plant matter, it is allowed to pass through the lower sphincter and into the digestive cavity, where the utility mass processes it and distributes its useful matter to the blood stream for use by the cells of the body. Remaining indigestible matter and waste returning from the bloodstream, is stored by the utility mass and herded to the aft section of the digestive cavity. The waste matter remains just inside the end of the digestive cavity, until the vaeu’s body evacuates it, by relaxing the sphincter muscles connecting the digestive cavity to the rectum, at which point the utility mass pushes the waste matter through the rectum and out of the body. Once removal has been completed, the utility mass retreats back into the digestive cavity, cleaning any remaining traces of waste matter from the rectum as it returns to its place inside the body.\n\nWhen a vaeu consumes something that is not plant matter, the nervous system can identify it as lacking the right chemical markers, and will not allow the material into the digestive cavity. Instead, the vaeu must either regurgitate the material, or else it will be allowed through the upper sphincter at the bottom of the esophagus, and into the medial duct. The medial duct is a muscular tube that hugs the bottom of the spinal column, and connects the esophagus directly to the rectum. It is a shortcut for indigestible material a vaeu may consume. Once inside the medial duct, the indigestible material is rapidly pushed down the length of the tube, and through a sphincter into the rectum, where the rectum itself contracts and forces the unwanted mater out of the anus. If a vaeu were to swallow a golf ball, it would travel through the entirety of the central tract in less than a minute, and pop out the other end, clean and undamaged… just a little slimy.\n\nb.\n\nA note on the utility cell mass.\nThe utility mass is a slimy goo like substance that rests freely inside a vaeu’s digestive cavity. It has a primitive form of nervous system, wherein all of its cells can communicate with one another in addition to the vaeu’s primary nervous system. The utility cell mass is in charge of all digestion and processing of food and waste matter. It is also capable of carrying out exothermic and endothermic reactions inside the vaeu’s centre mass, to maintain a safe body temperature. If a vaeu becomes too warm or cold, it can catalyze chemical reactions to maintain its temperature, at the expense of energy. A vaeu would definitely be uncomfortable in -40 degree winds, but it would die of exhaustion and cellular depletion before it could freeze to death.\n\nWhen a vaeu drinks fluid containing water, It is allowed into the digestive cavity just like its food would be, where the utility mass processes it and gives it to the blood-stream. The blood stream and the cells of the body share the water to perform tasks, before returning it to the utility mass as waste fluid. The waste fluid is pushed to the aft of the digestive cavity, and herded through a sphincter opening that leads to the bladder. Here, the waste fluid is stored as urine, before being expelled from the body via the urethra.\n\nApart from the digestive system, the vaeu also have all of the usual life essential organs. Their brain is where you’d expect it to be, and the cardiovascular system occupies the chest area. A vaeu has two lungs and two hearts. Both hearts work together to deal with all of the bodies blood flow requirements. If one heart is critically damaged or stops, the second heart is more than capable of carrying all of the burden of keeping the body alive.\n\nVaeu are capable of completely regrowing damaged or destroyed organs. The process can take up to a year, but if a vaeu lost a lung for instance, it could repair the damaged tissue of the existing organ and rebuild any material that was lost, eventually regaining 100% use of the new organ. Vaeu are also capable of healing spinal and nervous tissue to a relatively high degree. If a vaeu were ever paralyzed from the neck down, the nervous pathways could eventually heal and be re-established to the point where the injured vaeu could walk and run again. A vaeu that heals from such an extensive injury would never be as graceful on their hooves as they were before, but they would be able to take care of themselves again.\n\n\nVaeu have a tail, that like the rest of their body, is completely hairless. The tail has a conical shape, being rather thick at the base and narrow at the tip, and has many vertebrae that allow for a wide range of articulation. Vaeu tails are not quite prehensile, but can be controlled to a high level of accuracy and are often used to convey emotion.\n\nThe underside of a vaeu’s tail has a row of large nubs that are extremely sensitive to touch and pleasure sensation. This row of nubs continues into the body, such that the entire length of the central tract up until the back of the mouth, has a row of nubs on the spinal side of the inner surface. Though the tract normally lays flat and devoid of air space, the nubs can still be felt if one were to give the inside of the tract a tactile examination. Evolution gave the vaeu their nubs down the length of the central tract to induce feelings of satisfaction from eating, but science has yet to determine why the medial duct has the same nubs, when it is not a regular part of the digestive process. Many have speculated... but the general consensus among vaeu populace, is that they are glad to have the nubs in the middle, regardless of their practicality. The nubs are a source of extreme pleasure when massaged, and vaeu are often quite fond of full body penetration, using custom built sex toys intended to be pushed completely through the central tract.\n\nOn that note… lets talk about…\n\n\n8. Gender, sexuality and reproduction\n\na.\n\nBiologically, Vaeu have three genders. Neutral, female, and male.\n\nVaeu are born androgeneous, and do not develop sex organs until their eighth year. When they have reached sexual maturity at 20 years of age, their bodies begin producing hormones that engage their sex drive. At this time, vaeu also gain the ability to change genders. Vaeu can trigger within themselves a complete biological shift from male to neutral, to female, or vice versa, if they so desire.\nFrom one state to another the process can take as little as a month. That means that if a female were to change to neutral, she could do that in a month, but it might take longer depending on outstanding factors. If she were to change from female to male, she would first have to change to neutral, on her path to becoming a male. A full change from female to male, or the other way around, would take two to five months.\n\nVaeu gender identity tends to be rather fluid, however, many vaeu have preferred pronouns that they like to be addressed by, regardless of what hardware they currently have equipped.\n\nWhen a vaeu is physically female, they have a labia, which leads into a vaginal tract, which leads into a \"womb\" of sorts, which houses a single egg waiting to be fertilized. A female vaeu carries only one egg, and will not release it from her body unless it is fertilized by a male, or if she makes the transition out of female physiology. When a female transitions to neutral, their egg's shell hardens and the vaeu must lay the egg before their transition can be continued. Female vaeu can be identified by their gently curved horns, and by the dark band of colour across the top of their nose.\n\nWhen a vaeu is physically male, they have a penis, an internal seminal gland, and a seminal bladder. Male vaeu do not have external testicles, however, their internal sexual organs can produce and store up to a litre of semen each day, on average. When male vaeu ejaculate, they release their entire volume over the course of five secconds, normally leaving quite a mess. Males can be identified by their perfectly straight horns, and the dark markings on their ears.\n\nWhen a vaeu is physically neutral, they lack any form of sexual organ, and have only a urethral slit, below the anus. In this androgynous state, vaeu tend not to be as horny as those who are male or female, however, their libido can and often does stay at a high enough level to maintain desire for physical interactions with others. Androgeneous vaeu often engage in oral and anal sex, and teasing of various topical erogenous zones on the body. Neutral vaeu can be identified by their lack of horns, and absense of the facial markings that males or females would have.\n\nb.\n\nGender biology aside, there remains a decent amount of things to know about vaeu sexuality. Since the fall, and the subsequent uplifting of the vaeu intelect, the species has become rather exploratory and curious in its exploits.\n\nTheir sexual curiosity is no exception to this.\n\nVaeu live in herds, which tend to be somewhat nomadic in nature. Vaeu tend to live in one place for most of their lives, but will travel a great distance each year in a migratory pattern with the seasons.\n\nLiving in a group like this, that travels and comes in contact with other herds, vaeu will often have access to a great many potential sexual partners.\n\nVaeu will mate with the opposing gender in the name of reproduction, but are not strictly heterosexual. Considering the fact that young vaeu are taken care of by the herd as a whole, and not only by its own two parents, vaeu tend to be less reliant on monogamous relationships.\n\n\nUnder most circumstances, when a species has no predators, it reproduces to an unsustainable population. However.\nThe vaeu understand that without predators, their species could very easily outgrow its own carrying capacity. Intelligent enough to avoid such things, veau keep very close watch on how many offspring their herd produces. If a female becomes pregnant when the herd cannot afford to provide for another member, she tends to shift to neutral, and expel the egg before it reaches the second stage of its development. This is an easy solution to maintaining population even while engaging in frequent heterosexual activity. This being the case, vaeu have other ways to avoid overpopulation. To eliminate the concern for pregnancy all together, vaeu very frequently engage in homosexual interactions amongst themselves.\n\nDue to the vaeu's ability to change gender at will, they are capable of experimenting with a great many forms of sexual intercourse with one another. Even neutral vaeu, lacking any form of reproductive organs, often engage in physical intimacy.\n\nSince all the surviving species are intelegant enough to fully understand and communicate with one another, interspecies sex on the homeworld is not out of the question. Vaeu often engage in physical relations with members of the other species of their world, and have even used synth bodies for intercourse with other races, where their natural bodies would make such actions difficult or dangerous.\n\n\n\nSince the vaeu digestive system includes a bypass tube that directly connects the mouth to the anus, most vaeu experiment with sexual pleasure obtained by passing solid objects through their central tract. Some vaeu have created sex toys specifically designed for full body penetration, and they gather extreme pleasure from such activities. Vaeu have found that along with solid objects, they are also capable of forcing fluids all the way through their central tract, and many vaeu take great pleasure from having water pumped through them.\n\nFull body penetration like this, would not be possible for any length of time, if the vaeu had only one airway. Vaeu in fact, have three distinct paths through which they can breathe. The mouth and the nostrils connect into one main airway as it would in earthly mammals. But beyond that, vaeu also have two extra nostrils, located half-way between the eyes, and the primary nostrils. Each of these nostrils has its own dedicated airway that connects directly to the lungs, without connecting in any way to the digestive tract.\n\nThis means that if a vaeu were to have an obstruction in their esophagus, they could still breathe through their supplementary nostrils.\n\nThese extra pathways are the only reason that the vaeu are capable of surviving extended periods of full body penetration.\n\n\nc.\n\nEvery year, vaeu go through a hormonal cycle.\nVaeu are capable of reproducing at any time of the year, but the females of the species produce varying levels of pheromones. During the summer months, when the climate is at its warmest, vaeu females produce 300% of the normal amount of pheromones one might normally expect at any other time. This triggers a chain reaction between all vaeu that lasts for about two weeks per year. In this chain reaction, vaeu, normally having a comfortably controllable libido, become extremely horny and emotional. For a vaeu during these two weeks, it feels like all sensations are amplified. Pain, pleasure, sadness, joy… all perceived sensations and emotions become magnified. For many, this time of year can become unbearable. Some, knowing they don't handle the season very well, seclude themselves from the herd as not to be down wind of the pheremonal tidal wave that occurs. Other vaeu however, simply make the most of the season, and do everything in their power to make sure that they are only exposed to positive feelings. When the season starts, most vaeu take time off from their normal obligations, and spend the time ensuring the health and safety of themselves and those around them.\n\nThe season tends to come at random some time during the hottest month of the year. This being the case. Many vaeu are capable of feeling the approach of the chain reaction event, and warn others to prepare for it. The chain reaction effects all three genders of vaeu equally, on average.\n\n\n\n9. Lope linguistics.\n\nBefore the fall, the vaeu never had a name for themselves. They lacked a phonetic language, and communicated only with the honks, bleats and squeaks that you could expect from an ungulate type creature of their kind. The precursors who ruled over the land, often named the fauna of the planet, after the sounds they produced.\n\nThe vaeu were named after the sound of their long distance rallying call. A bleat with two syllables, \"vaeu\" is a honk, requesting a regroup, often called by a member of a herd that had wandered too far and gotten lost. The returning bleat, \"voh\" is a position indicating call, asking the straggler to come and rejoin the herd.\n\nThese two bleats had been mimicked by the precursors when the vaeu species was named, and though both verbalizations had been used in speech before the fall, Vaeu became the only written name for them. In phonetic speech, vaeu had been pronounced as \"vay you\" with similar audible build to the English word, veil, having less emphasis on the “you” syllable.\n\nAfter the collapse, when the surviving species became uplifted, they soon found need for a universal language. Due to their vastly diverse physiologies, many of the species were incapable of communicating with one another using their native bleats and what not. This being the case, a common tongue was developed, and the surviving species found themselves capable of communicating with a high level of clarity using similar spoken words as the languages used by the precursors.\n\nToday, the vaeu still use their natural song of squeaks and honks to communicate, but often resort to using the common tongue, on account of it's diversity and practicality as a language.\n\nHaving studied the languages left behind by the precursors, the vaeu are capable of learning most phonetic based languages that may be used by species found elsewhere in the universe.\n\n\n10. Conclusion

1. Simple species description

Vaeu are a species of antelope that live in a universe parallel to that of Earth's own. Vaeu are completely hairless, extremely intelligent, and capable of verbal communication on the level of human speech. Their skin is slightly course, like 1000 grit sandpaper, such that running your hand over it, it would feel smooth and dry. Exceptions to this are the more delicate areas like the eyelids and what not, where the skin is noticeably softer and more stretchy.

Vaeu are Quadrupedal. In the cannon lore, any other body types, like anthro or taur types, are actually synthetically produced bodies that are being piloted by a real vaeu, via neural link, which I get into in “vaeu technology”.

2. History of the homeworld, before the vaeu

The vaeu homeworld was once very similar to earth, but with a higher percentage of dry land. It was home to several hundred thousand species of creatures, many of which may have looked similar to those we have had on earth.

Where most of these species kept to themselves and struggled just to survive, a single bipedal race once ruled as the dominant species of the world. This race of bipeds, having been more intellectually capable than the other species, developed a sprawling society that covered the globe.

Hell-bent on attaining as much knowledge and power as possible, this bipedal race, toyed with forces beyond their control. In an experiment that hoped to create a limitless source of energy, they accidentally set off a chain reaction that shifted the atomic structure of the world’s core. This shift turned the world into a self-sustaining power plant, but not in the way the bipeds had hoped. Instead of creating a source of endless electrical energy, the core simply became dangerously radioactive.

The radiation that was created that day, (now called resonance) completely permeated the world’s solid matter and atmosphere, and proved deadly. These bipedal precursors, once strong and unwavering in their rule over the world, were wiped out in a single day. The same fate befell almost all of the other species of animals on the planet, and half of the species of plants. The few animal species that survived only did so because of a miraculous mutation triggered by the resonance.

3. Resonance, and what it left behind

When the resonance hit, the animal species that survived its onset were physiologically and psychologically changed by it. Their bodies became structurally augmented, and their intellects were broadened and sharpened. These benefits however, came at a cost. The newly uplifted species of the world became reliant on the resonance, growing weak if they ventured for too long, to parts of the world where the radiation was less concentrated. These remaining species, often found themselves congregating in the densest resonance zones, closer to sea level.

There are 20 distinct animal species surviving on the vaeu homeworld, each with a few of their own subspecies. Half of these species fall under the same genus as the common vaeu. The other species are a mixed bag of different herbivorous creatures. All predator species were obliterated by the resonance, but despite their disappearance, millions of years worth of evolution prior to the fall, keep the physical traits of the surviving species rather prey like.

When the resonance hit, all insect and microbiological life was decimated. Left without such an integral piece of the ecosystem, life should have been left in ruin, but something very strange happened. The resonance triggered mutation on the cellular level of every animal, making their cells highly communicative and self sufficient. Processes that once needed the assistance of microbial life, can now be fully carried out by the body, on its own.

The cells of every living animal, are now capable of communicating with each-other in a body-wide mesh network. If one cell needs something, all the other cells in contact with it communicate its needs, and can deliver what is being asked for. This makes the healing process extremely efficient, and helps the creatures of the world live longer than they would have, before the resonance hit.

When an animal of the world dies however, their cells lose contact with one another, and stop functioning within seconds. The dead cells of any animal that has perished are no longer capable of conducting resonance, and without its support, the cells dry up, and become disassembled on a molecular level. A dead animal on the vaeu homeworld will turn into nothing more than pale, grey, dust, over the course of a day.

Vaeu, and the other surviving species, can leave the planet, and it's atmospheres resonance for about a week, before resonance deficiency sickness starts to kick in. This means, the can travel to space, and can interact with other planets species on the world's surrounding orbital stations, but must return before long.
These creatures would carry with them a residual amount of resonance, that could prove harmful to other world's species, were they to spend too long in close proximity to one another.

4. Vaeu technology

When the resonance took hold, and the vaeu found themselves uplifted by the radiation's embrace, the world was a mess. The bipedal race that had ruled over the planet before their self inflicted extinction, had left things in shambles. Struck with a newfound curiosity, the vaeu explored the ruins of the dead civilization. Vast cities around the world quickly proved themselves to be gold mines full of information.

The technology left behind by the precursors became inherited by the surviving races. This device, which will be explained in section 5, is called “the rack”.

With the help of the rack, The surviving species worked together to create agricultural greenhouse towers to fight the famine that ensued when much of the world's plantlife died off. The vaeu devised ways to make use of the vehicles and machinery that the precursors left behind, but leery of the potential this technology had, the surviving species of the world decided to build a council of leaders to maintain a sustainable society. Section 6 talks a bit about this council.

Since the collapse, the surviving species have worked together to build a modern society. This is why all space travel is now conducted using synthetic bodies controlled by the rack.

5. The rack

When the bipedal precursors used to rule over the planet, they were extraordinarily tech savvy. If a synth body is destroyed, the pilot remains unharmed.

Synths controlled by the rack, are produced using a kind of biological 3d printer. A design can be placed in the system, and it will produce the new body. Synthetic bodies can be very simple and robotic, or they can be very complex, and almost indistinguishable from flesh and blood organisms.

Some pilots get an exact copy of their own body constructed, so they can go about their day to day tasks without fear of injury. Other pilots have asked for a body with different physical parameters than what they were born with.

When the Vaeu first stumbled upon synthrack technology, one of them accidentally paired up with a bipedal “humanoid” body. Instantly understanding the usefulness of hands, the vaeu began producing their own bipedal bodies for use as a tool to help the progress of day to day life.

Many pilots use their synths for practical purposes like craftsmanship, complex technological tasks, or space travel wherein their biological bodies would normally have perished from resonance deficiency sickness. Other pilots use synths as a source of entertainment. A synth is not restricted to keeping the features of the species that built it. The possibilities are endless when designing a synthetic body for ones self. Want four arms? done. Decided to try flying? you can be a birb. Anything that a bio engineer can design, can be printed and piloted.

As each pilot will have different preferences, the Vaeu have built many different styles of rack for their own use. They have also designed a few for the other surviving species to use. However, the vaeu remain the primary user of this technology, as the other races often show less interest in it.

Of these different designs of rack, many of them include life support systems to allow for a pilot to operate for hours, or in some cases, days or weeks, before having to log out and spend time in their own body again. Life support systems for pilots who need to run a synth for days at a time, would include a feeding tube, and some form of waste matter collector, along with the standard vital sign monitors and thermal balancing unit.

When a pilot is logged into a synth, they receive visual input from the synth, as well as olfactory, audio, taste, and tactile sensory input from both the synth, AND their own body on the rack. Because of this, most pilots tend to get custom fitted racks, or use sensory deprivation tanks in order to remain comfortable and focused on only the sensations the synth is transmitting.

A pilot on their rack is completely vulnerable and immobile during their time linked to a synth. This way, medical staff can keep tabs on the motionless forms of active pilots.

When on a rack and linked to a synth, the pilot’s body is at rest, but their mind is still fully awake. One pilot on a rack, can log in and out of up to ten different synths, using one at a time and allowing the others to sit dormant.

6. The high council

The surviving species of the vaeu homeworld were once simple creatures. Before the fall of the precursors, they were driven by instinct, and minimal amounts of knowledge passed down from generation to generation. When the resonance hit however, the surviving species became uplifted, and rose to a much higher level of intellect and prowess. Observing the world around them, and understanding how horribly the precursors had mismanaged their society, the surviving species spoke amongst themselves, and eventually came to the decision that a council of overseers would be needed in order to build a strong and sustainable society.

Three members of every species of the world were chosen to represent their species and its interests. All of these representatives combined, make up what is simply referred to as “the council”

The council members are rotated in and out of duty in an endless cycle, such that a single member would never remain in the council for more than three years. As a new council member from any of the species is being brought into the fold, the longest running member of that same species steps down. This way, there are always two council members per species that are fully up to date on the current state of affairs.

When something is going wrong in the lives of the people of any of the the surviving species, it is brought to the attention of the council. Capable and intelligent, the council members devise solutions to problems as they arise, and vote to decide which one should be implemented. Once a solution has been given to the people, it is seen to that a solid attempt to fix the problem has been made. If the problem continues or worsens, the council votes again on a new solution based upon any further information about the problem that may have come up.

Through history, since the fall of the precursors, the council has been continuously refined into a highly efficient system of problem solving. With the councils help, civilization on the vaeu homeworld continues to better itself with each passing year.

7. Physiology

a.

Resembling the antelopes of our own realm, the vaeu are quadrupedal, even-toed ungulates. Some subspecies have a different stature, and overall proportion depends on the geological region they hail from.

Vaeu hooves are very similar to those of the ungulates we know, and are continuously growing. Their horns are made of the same keratinous material, and continually grow unless triggered to shed, meaning horns can sometimes grow to extreme lengths.

Vaeu have a long, prehensile tongue that is capable of assisting with foraging overhead vegetation. Instead of a complex set of different organs that work together to extract nutrients from their food, the vaeu have only two organs for this task; The central tract, and the utility mass, which is stored in the digestive cavity.

The central tract is comprised of the mouth, esophagus, medial duct, and the rectum. It is a straight tube from mouth to anus, that contains several sphincter muscles and openings that allow for life critical tasks. From the mouth, the esophagus leads down into the chest, where the central tract forks into two paths, each controlled by a sphincter muscle set.

When a vaeu consumes plant matter, it is allowed to pass through the lower sphincter and into the digestive cavity, where the utility mass processes it and distributes its useful matter to the blood stream for use by the cells of the body. Once removal has been completed, the utility mass retreats back into the digestive cavity, cleaning any remaining traces of waste matter from the rectum as it returns to its place inside the body.

When a vaeu consumes something that is not plant matter, the nervous system can identify it as lacking the right chemical markers, and will not allow the material into the digestive cavity. If a vaeu were to swallow a golf ball, it would travel through the entirety of the central tract in less than a minute, and pop out the other end, clean and undamaged… just a little slimy.

b.

A note on the utility cell mass.
The utility mass is a slimy goo like substance that rests freely inside a vaeu’s digestive cavity. A vaeu would definitely be uncomfortable in -40 degree winds, but it would die of exhaustion and cellular depletion before it could freeze to death.

When a vaeu drinks fluid containing water, It is allowed into the digestive cavity just like its food would be, where the utility mass processes it and gives it to the blood-stream. The blood stream and the cells of the body share the water to perform tasks, before returning it to the utility mass as waste fluid. The waste fluid is pushed to the aft of the digestive cavity, and herded through a sphincter opening that leads to the bladder. Here, the waste fluid is stored as urine, before being expelled from the body via the urethra.

Apart from the digestive system, the vaeu also have all of the usual life essential organs. Their brain is where you’d expect it to be, and the cardiovascular system occupies the chest area. A vaeu has two lungs and two hearts. Both hearts work together to deal with all of the bodies blood flow requirements. If one heart is critically damaged or stops, the second heart is more than capable of carrying all of the burden of keeping the body alive.

Vaeu are capable of completely regrowing damaged or destroyed organs. A vaeu that heals from such an extensive injury would never be as graceful on their hooves as they were before, but they would be able to take care of themselves again.

Vaeu have a tail, that like the rest of their body, is completely hairless. The tail has a conical shape, being rather thick at the base and narrow at the tip, and has many vertebrae that allow for a wide range of articulation. Vaeu tails are not quite prehensile, but can be controlled to a high level of accuracy and are often used to convey emotion.

The underside of a vaeu’s tail has a row of large nubs that are extremely sensitive to touch and pleasure sensation. The nubs are a source of extreme pleasure when massaged, and vaeu are often quite fond of full body penetration, using custom built sex toys intended to be pushed completely through the central tract.

On that note… lets talk about…

8. Gender, sexuality and reproduction

a.

Biologically, Vaeu have three genders. Neutral, female, and male.

Vaeu are born androgeneous, and do not develop sex organs until their eighth year. When they have reached sexual maturity at 20 years of age, their bodies begin producing hormones that engage their sex drive. At this time, vaeu also gain the ability to change genders. Vaeu can trigger within themselves a complete biological shift from male to neutral, to female, or vice versa, if they so desire.
From one state to another the process can take as little as a month. That means that if a female were to change to neutral, she could do that in a month, but it might take longer depending on outstanding factors. If she were to change from female to male, she would first have to change to neutral, on her path to becoming a male. A full change from female to male, or the other way around, would take two to five months.

Vaeu gender identity tends to be rather fluid, however, many vaeu have preferred pronouns that they like to be addressed by, regardless of what hardware they currently have equipped.

When a vaeu is physically female, they have a labia, which leads into a vaginal tract, which leads into a "womb" of sorts, which houses a single egg waiting to be fertilized. A female vaeu carries only one egg, and will not release it from her body unless it is fertilized by a male, or if she makes the transition out of female physiology. When a female transitions to neutral, their egg's shell hardens and the vaeu must lay the egg before their transition can be continued. Female vaeu can be identified by their gently curved horns, and by the dark band of colour across the top of their nose.

When a vaeu is physically male, they have a penis, an internal seminal gland, and a seminal bladder. Male vaeu do not have external testicles, however, their internal sexual organs can produce and store up to a litre of semen each day, on average. When male vaeu ejaculate, they release their entire volume over the course of five secconds, normally leaving quite a mess. Males can be identified by their perfectly straight horns, and the dark markings on their ears.

When a vaeu is physically neutral, they lack any form of sexual organ, and have only a urethral slit, below the anus. Neutral vaeu can be identified by their lack of horns, and absense of the facial markings that males or females would have.

b.

Gender biology aside, there remains a decent amount of things to know about vaeu sexuality. Since the fall, and the subsequent uplifting of the vaeu intelect, the species has become rather exploratory and curious in its exploits.

Their sexual curiosity is no exception to this.

Vaeu live in herds, which tend to be somewhat nomadic in nature. Vaeu tend to live in one place for most of their lives, but will travel a great distance each year in a migratory pattern with the seasons.

Living in a group like this, that travels and comes in contact with other herds, vaeu will often have access to a great many potential sexual partners.

Vaeu will mate with the opposing gender in the name of reproduction, but are not strictly heterosexual. Considering the fact that young vaeu are taken care of by the herd as a whole, and not only by its own two parents, vaeu tend to be less reliant on monogamous relationships.

Under most circumstances, when a species has no predators, it reproduces to an unsustainable population. However.
The vaeu understand that without predators, their species could very easily outgrow its own carrying capacity. To eliminate the concern for pregnancy all together, vaeu very frequently engage in homosexual interactions amongst themselves.

Due to the vaeu's ability to change gender at will, they are capable of experimenting with a great many forms of sexual intercourse with one another. Even neutral vaeu, lacking any form of reproductive organs, often engage in physical intimacy.

Since all the surviving species are intelegant enough to fully understand and communicate with one another, interspecies sex on the homeworld is not out of the question. Vaeu often engage in physical relations with members of the other species of their world, and have even used synth bodies for intercourse with other races, where their natural bodies would make such actions difficult or dangerous.

Since the vaeu digestive system includes a bypass tube that directly connects the mouth to the anus, most vaeu experiment with sexual pleasure obtained by passing solid objects through their central tract. Some vaeu have created sex toys specifically designed for full body penetration, and they gather extreme pleasure from such activities. Vaeu have found that along with solid objects, they are also capable of forcing fluids all the way through their central tract, and many vaeu take great pleasure from having water pumped through them.

Full body penetration like this, would not be possible for any length of time, if the vaeu had only one airway. Vaeu in fact, have three distinct paths through which they can breathe. The mouth and the nostrils connect into one main airway as it would in earthly mammals. But beyond that, vaeu also have two extra nostrils, located half-way between the eyes, and the primary nostrils. Each of these nostrils has its own dedicated airway that connects directly to the lungs, without connecting in any way to the digestive tract.

This means that if a vaeu were to have an obstruction in their esophagus, they could still breathe through their supplementary nostrils.

These extra pathways are the only reason that the vaeu are capable of surviving extended periods of full body penetration.

c.

Every year, vaeu go through a hormonal cycle.
Vaeu are capable of reproducing at any time of the year, but the females of the species produce varying levels of pheromones. When the season starts, most vaeu take time off from their normal obligations, and spend the time ensuring the health and safety of themselves and those around them.

The season tends to come at random some time during the hottest month of the year. This being the case. Many vaeu are capable of feeling the approach of the chain reaction event, and warn others to prepare for it. The chain reaction effects all three genders of vaeu equally, on average.

9. Lope linguistics.

Before the fall, the vaeu never had a name for themselves. They lacked a phonetic language, and communicated only with the honks, bleats and squeaks that you could expect from an ungulate type creature of their kind. The precursors who ruled over the land, often named the fauna of the planet, after the sounds they produced.

The vaeu were named after the sound of their long distance rallying call. A bleat with two syllables, "vaeu" is a honk, requesting a regroup, often called by a member of a herd that had wandered too far and gotten lost. The returning bleat, "voh" is a position indicating call, asking the straggler to come and rejoin the herd.

These two bleats had been mimicked by the precursors when the vaeu species was named, and though both verbalizations had been used in speech before the fall, Vaeu became the only written name for them. In phonetic speech, vaeu had been pronounced as "vay you" with similar audible build to the English word, veil, having less emphasis on the “you” syllable.

After the collapse, when the surviving species became uplifted, they soon found need for a universal language. Due to their vastly diverse physiologies, many of the species were incapable of communicating with one another using their native bleats and what not. This being the case, a common tongue was developed, and the surviving species found themselves capable of communicating with a high level of clarity using similar spoken words as the languages used by the precursors.

Today, the vaeu still use their natural song of squeaks and honks to communicate, but often resort to using the common tongue, on account of it's diversity and practicality as a language.

Having studied the languages left behind by the precursors, the vaeu are capable of learning most phonetic based languages that may be used by species found elsewhere in the universe.

10. Conclusion and Thank you.
Well. I *would* apologize for the wall of text here, but I’m not gonna. You made the mistake of going ahead and reading it all…

and for that, I am deeply thankful. It means a lot to me that there are a handful of people who are interested in my creative endeavours, and I am grateful for your continuing support.

Thank you. I mean it! : )

This rendition of the vaeu written lore was last edited on May 11, 2020.
Further modification to its contents will likely occur as discrepancies and amendments are brought to light.",
